This is nothing new. ISIS in Iraq and Syria is just going back to how Ismamist rulers were originally. In India for example, this is how they managed to convert so many people to Islam. Most of the Mirpuris and the Punjabi Jatts of west Punjab became Muslim during the time of Aurangzeb who had implemented strict Sharia law. Kashmiris had begun converting due to living under a series of oppressive Muslim rulers over the centuries.

The implementation of Jaziya tax is like a win win situation for Muslim rulers. If the Dimmis remain Kafir, then the state will get a lot of revenue and if they can't pay and subsequently convert then there will be more Muslims.

It has nothing to do bible. It's all a geo political chess game for the big boys. After the fall of Saddam, Iraq, Syria, and Hezbollah controlled parts of Lebanon became continuous westward land extension of Iran's power and influence. To break this extension of Iranian control, the US began to fund and train the FSA in Syria so Iranian influence can be weakened. But the US did not anticipate the rise of ISIS which has become a danger to not only the FSA but also Maliki's rule in Iraq and is now literally changing the map of the middle east.

The US which otherwise despises Iranian influence, but even they are now quietly supporting Iranian revolutionary guards who are now on ground in Iraq leading the Shia militia's against ISIS since Shia militias are the only real power capable and motivated enough to fighting Sunni extremists. Just as ਲੋਹਾ ਲੋਹੇ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ (only iron can be used to cut iron) similarly only one group of extremists can beat another group of extremists.
