If you don't like conversion, bring law against it: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

KOLKATA: Describing India as a Hindu rashtra (nation) and making a strong pitch for Hindu awakening, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday upped the ante on conversions by challenging opposition parties to bring a law for banning forcible conversions.

Addressing the first-ever public rally by Vishwa Hindu Parishad in West Bengal, Bhagwat said, "There is no need to fear. We are in our own country. We are not intruders or infiltrators. This is our own country, our Hindu 'rashtra' (nation). A Hindu will not leave his land. What we have lost in the past, we will try to bring it back. No one should be afraid of Hindus rising. Those who are raising their voice against the rise of Hindus are selfish and have vested interests. And if they oppose, there will be confrontation."

"We must remember that the confrontation is for the ills done to our ancestors," said Bhagwat, adding, "Hindus have been tolerating crimes by Bangladesh or Pakistan. Our God says after 100 crimes, you must not forgive any crime."

"Till the Hindus are here in India, the country is there. If Hindus are not there, then everybody living here will be in distress," Bhagwat said.

Speaking at a Hindu Sammelan as part of VHP's golden jubilee celebrations, Bhagwat said Hindus do not convert, so nobody should try to convert Hindus to other religions.

"We are trying to create a strong Hindu society. Those who strayed, were lured away. They were looted from us. The world knows. Ab agar mera maal wapas aata hain, toh kaunsi badi baat hai? (If now we are taking back our property, then what's the big deal?)," Bhagwat told the 20,000-strong crowd.

Targeting Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, VHP international working president Praveen Togadia said, "Mulayamji, you are known for taking an anti-national stand, but if you make an anti-conversion law we will support you."

Senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal could not attend the rally due to ill-health.

These comments are significant at a time when political parties in the opposition have unitedly stalled Rajya Sabha following 'ghar wapasi' programmes by saffron outfits. The opposition has been demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the conversion issue.

A profusion of saffron flags on Kolkata streets was a rare sight. Rallyists came from the city and neighbouring districts. Many of them like Surojit Mukherjee, a class XII student from Khardaha and Rahul Jaiswal, a 19-year-old who works in a garage, joined the Sangh Parivar about a year ago.

Earlier, senior VHP functionaries from Bengal had admitted their decision to hold the Hindu Sammelan was guided by the "changed political circumstances" in the state. Decoded, it translates into the increasing strength of BJP in Bengal.

Saffron outfits like the RSS and VHP are in an expansion mode in Bengal. From about 250 shakhas in the state five years ago, the number of VHP's shakhas has increased to more than 400, said VHP south Bengal unit vice-president, Nand Lal Lohia. VHP aims to set up 543 units at the block level across Bengal by Janmashtami next year.

The sammelan kicked off with cow-worship at Shahid Minar in the heart of Kolkata, site of numerous political rallies since pre-independence days. At VHP's rally, a large statue of a cow was placed near the dais.

Togadia said slaughter of a single cow was an insult to Hindus. He made a sales pitch for cosmetics manufactured from cowdung and urine of cows by the VHP. "We earned Rs 15 crore through sale of shampoo and face wash made from cow urine and face pack made from cow dung," said Togadia. He then asked the crowd if the sale can be boosted to Rs 15,000 crore. He was not disappointed with affirmation from the crowd.

Togadia's tirade against Bangladeshi infiltrators, who he called a security threat, found takers, especially, those coming from border districts. "You must pledge that you will not take in Bangladeshi Muslims as tenants or employ them even if they offer cheap labour," he said after rattling off a nine-point action plan for being a "practising Hindu".

Togadia accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of minority appeasement. "Mamataji is wooing minorities by calling for reservation and doling out honorarium to imams. Why is there no grant for Hindu priests or Hindus who are unemployed?" he asked.

AMRITSAR, Punjab (December 15, 2014)—The Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh alleged Sunday that the Hindu “right-wing” organization was behind the controversial change in the “Nanakshahi Calendar” which is adopted by Sikhs around the world. The Jathedar also alleged that RSS (Rashtriya Swam Sewak Sangh) wants to cease off the independent identity of the Sikhs.

“The changes in the “Nanakshahi Calendar” were being affected on the instance and directions of RSS. RSS wants to challenge the Sikh identity by saying that Sikhs were part of the Hindu religion which is absolutely untrue and wrong. RSS has a targeted approach towards creating a breach between Sikhs,” said Jathedar Nandgarh.

Quoting BJP stalwart and former deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishan Advani’s visit to a Radha Swami dera recently, Jathedar Nandgarh said that RSS created deras in Punjab to harm the interests of Sikhs. RSS reiterated that Sikhs would fight for the exclusion of Sikhs from Section 25-B where they are shown as Hindus.

Can Jathadar Jee provide a statement by RSS that proves they support Bikrami? if anything it seems missionaries like Ghagha who are now showing links with RSS want Sikhs to adopt Purewal calander. Please read this thread showing Ghagha's link with RSS http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/76130-professor-ghagga-honored-by-ex-rss-covert-sikh/

One needs to go no further than to see from the infamous(badnaam) Kala Afghanist website of Singh Sabha Canada and see how they whole heartedly support Purewal calendar http://www.<banned>.com/?p=84960

and read why they specifically support Purewal calendar I'm going to quote from that heretic site:

In other words they are doing this because they feel the flawed Purewal calendar whose base year is 1999 and is based on GOI's national calendar of India will disprove the authenticity of Dasam Bani. Next they will target Bani in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee and Bhai Gurdas Jee's vaars which also use Bikrami calendar. Singho see their heretic propaganda at work. Do not fall for their lies this time.

Johnny, what is your answer to Nanakshahi Calendar supporters who say that by continuing with the current Bikrami calendar several errors will occur such as the same Gurpurab twice a year and so on?

Besides your argument about 'what-is-the-need-if-gurus-didnt-use-it' is flawed. Historically there are a lot of things that we have added in our Panth lateron. Even some of the Panj Takht were built after the Guru. Shall I then say, why have more Takhts if the Guru only chose one (Akaal Bunga)? Please note that I am not undermining the significance of Panj Takht but showing your logical fallacy by claiming that we have to use the Bikrami because the Gurus used it.

This is one point that Kala Afghanists have used to cause great confusion among Bhole Bhaale Sikhs who do not understand these things and think this type of logic makes sense. What you are basically doing is taking Bikrami calendar and super imposing it on the Purewal calendar. You cannot measure Bikrami according to the Christian calendar of Purewal, if you do then that will result in confusion. Both calendars have different measurements, the Christian calendar of Purewal is solar while Bikrami is a solar-lunar calendar. If you celebrate Gurpurabs according to Bikrami then you will celebrate Gurpurabs every year according to the Bikrami calendar.

.

My argument is not "'what-is-the-need-if-gurus-didnt-use-it'. My arguement is that Guru Sahibaan all used Bikrami calandar and even used it in Gurbani. According to Bikrami calander Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj was born on Poh Sudi Saptmi which is measured according to the phases of the moon. You cannot fix this date according to the solar calendar, it has to be according to the Bikrami calendar. According to Bhai Gurdas Jee, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee was born:

ਕਾਰਤਕ ਮਾਸ ਰੁਤਿ ਸਰਦ ਪੂਰਨਮਾਸੀ ਆਠ ਜਾਮ ਸਾਠਿ ਘਰੀ ਆਜੁ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਰੀ ਹੈ ।

It is the month of Karlik, and winter season with full moon night. In these eight watches, here is your chance to meet your beloved at any time. (Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on this day).

1 ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ : ਕਬਿੱਤ ੩੪੫ ਪੰ. ੧

You cannot measure pooranmaasi according to the solar calendar. It has to be done with solar-lunar Bikrami calendar.

This is how GurSikhs for the last 500 years have been celebrating these days. The Sants of Bhindranwale Sampradah of Taksals or even Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh Jee of AKJ have all celebrated these days according to Bikrami. You can follow these respected Sachkhandi Gursikhs who have tirelessly served the Panth or you can follow shady individuals who oppose Bikrami like Ghagha(who has links with RSS), Gurbaksh Kala Afghana(convicted sex offender), Shivtegh(caught with a Bibi), Darshan Lal(excommunicated from Panth), Jeowala(excommunicated from panth), Dhundha(who said Darbar Sahib's divine kirtan is worse than a prostitute).

This Jathedar does not know what he is talking about when speaking about Nanakshahi Calendar. Here is an expert advice from a person who works in the field.

There are 3 parts to this discussion.

Col Nishan is well informed Sikh. Everyone who opposes Bikrami and supports Purewal's calendar must watch these videos of Col Nishan who has exposed the technical flaws of Purewal calendar. You owe it to yourself and to the Panth. Do not blindly support Purewal's calendar because it is the fashionable thing to do now days. This is a Panthic Masla that needs your full attention so you can become well informed on this topic.

Watch it and show it to your whole family so you all understand the game that is being played on us.

    • We have lamp (or Jyot) the pure unscented candle for a reason. Traditionally, Patis used candle light (jyot), so they could read SGGS in darkness. Light, elec didn't exist. Dhoop is used to attract the "Good spirits" but also keep freshness where Maharaj will be.  Interestingly and coincidentally I heard Sakhi a few dsys ago. During Dasa Pitha's time these souls were roaming the Earth and even Sangat noticed. Maharaj asked them "y u here?" They replied during recitation of SGGS and making Degh they didn't bother lighting candle. THAT WAS THEE ONLY REASON NO GATI WAS GIVEN TO THEM!!!  AUTHENTICITY NOT CHECKED I heard once on YT like 2 days ago.  If u apply dhoop in one room of your house twice a week u will notice a difference esp in the smell and freshness of that room.
    • Sangat ji, With the hot weather as per Guru's Hukm, how can we look after our kes?  First of all the beard! Working in Construction, factory and any other heated environment I UNDERSTAND! At my workplace it's over 32 degree celcius and sometimes we have to lift 20kg ALL! DAY! My tips, regularly shampoo the beard during ishnan. APPLY OIL! The technique of applying oil is by rubbing it thoroughly in the roots. Pay attention to the noise esp on the chin. You will hear this "crosh crosh" noise. Keep rubbing oil until u can't hear it no more! This means the oil has blended in properly.  Second tip on beard, keep an extra kanga in your pocket. Every two, three hours give your beard a proper comb down to get rid of any sweat or stickiness. SECOND BENEFIT! Do this all 12 months every single day your beard will look like it's been professionally groomed. TRY IT! People will ask you "What gel u use? How can yer beard be naturally like that?" You can say all I use is coconut oil or whaeva oil but just comb the beard every 2-3 hours for a minute.  As for the kes, morning time get rid of all the gronjra (or knots - forgotten English word), in the morning. However, during evening comb down make sure you get rid of small remaining gronjra and comb yer hair nice and straight. You will feel soooo so relaxed. Yes our hair will go unnoticed due to Dastar, but our hair demands time and self grooming! So proper combing down, spending a good 15-20 mins most evenings is an absolute MUST!  Most evenings I let my hair down and cover hair with my parna for 2-3 hours so it gets to relax from the tying up.  FINAL TIP! We are Sikhs so we keep fighting and remember this! The tradition of Dastar and uncut hair started in India, where the weather is twice as hot. Everytime we bring this thought in the mind, Guru ji will bless us and make us feel cooled down by a notch.  Fateh.
    • Been so much nindya and attacking Shastarvidiya since the 2000s, however if we look at gatka now it's still mostly as poor and poorly taught as it was back then, still morris dancing moves and still behzti moves in BBC shows about sikhi and vaisakhi. If people were going to attack shastarvidiya, wouldn't have made sense to improve gatka instead and make it more effective? Additionally, the Nihang Singh presence has improved greatly now, and the cracks within the the SGPC and affiliated jatha jathebandis are showing more greatly as panth becomes more knowledgable with dasam bani and itihas day-by-day, so much gyaan which was lost within panjabi sikhs during colonial times. In the 2000s, the groups were able to talk down this bani and  gyaan by associating it with  RSS and hindus, brahminwaad etc. Not working so well now is it? However with gyaan it would be also good for us to try and preserve our martial arts and keertan vidiya as well! More and more crazy keertan videos are coming out from jatha members that are being made fun of and making sangat annoyed and upset, on tiktok and instagram reels.
    • Author Posted April 24   On 4/21/2025 at 2:43 PM, ipledgeblue said: sirr should not be nanga because keski is usually worn.   Sikhs can sleep nanga-sirr if they choose to . Being from Punjab, almost every Sardaarji i know (amritdhari or not) sleeps/showers with their hair uncovered. I don't think Guru Sahib asked us to wear Dastar to sleep and I don't think it is in SRM.   The idea of "keski being worn to sleep" is cos in Bollywood films (Bachna Ae Haseeno) Sikh characters usually tie a gol parna when sleeping since the actor's usually Hindu. So they gotta cover his head somehow or he'd have cut hair. Same reason Diljit wore a pagg to bed in the El Sueno vid. Only time they didn't do that was in Gadar with Sunny Deol which just looked odd tbh   What in the world? What sikh or even a decent human would base their knowledge of their culture or religion on a movie industry, that too Bollywood?  Believe me, no sikh ever said, I must cover my head becasue an actor did so in a movie. I've been doing it all wrong, I must start covering mh head because the sikh in that movie did.  Just because every panjabi and sardaar you know, does something, also doesn't make it right..  Follow the guru. And if you have a medical condition, then exemptions can be made.  Just admit it, because of my medical condition, I am not able to follow this rehit. Why are you getting everyone else to drop to your level?
    • Wasn't Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom on amd always commemorated on 6th June? How come it was 30th May?  Just like 6th June 84, where the likes of Terrorists like Indira Gandhi chose to attack Darbar Sahib where many many innocent Sikhs would suffer, as they went to commemorate Martyrdom of Maharaj.
