AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab (September 24, 2015)—In a sudden move today, five Takht Jathedars have pardon the controversial Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim infamous for anti-Sikh activities and crimes like rapes and murders. The Jathedars announced this decision in relation to an ‘apology’ letter sent by Gurmeet Ram Rahim advocating his innocence. The letter is said to have prepared and sent under political guidance of Punjab Government led by Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).

It is notable that in May, 2007 Gurmeet Ram Rahim had conducted an activity in Sirsa cult resembling the Amrit Sanchaar custom in Sikhism in which he dressed up like Guru Gobind Singh wearing costumes like him.

Appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh has said that Gurmeet Ram Rahim is pardoned after accepting his apology. He said that it was necessary to pardon him to control threats to disruption of peace and harmony across civilians residing in Punjab.

Meeting of the Jathedars was attended by Giani Gurbachan Singh (Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib), Giani Mall Singh (Jathedar, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib), Giani Iqbal Singh (Jathedar, Takht Sri Patna Sahib), Giani Ram Singh (Jathedar, Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib) and Giani Gurmukh Singh (Jathedar, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib).

Strongly condemning the excuse given by Akal Takht Jathedar, Bhai Papalpreet Singh (General Secretary, Sikh Youth Front) has said that Jathedars might forgive the Sirsa cult goon under political pressure but the Singhs who attained martyrdom while struggling against Gurmeet Ram Rahim will never pardon him.

Every time the Jathedar does something stupid, there's usually a brief uproar followed by a false sense of normality in which Gurbachan is made to play an important part in all matters Panthic. We ten

I'm not going to lie to you, I do struggle with 'Indianisms'. I mean Indian attempts at the English language. I always feel they should stop doing it and just use their own mother tongues because this

Why are the other four jathedars of the takhats agreeing with akal thakhat. are all the takhats under badals control? Even Hazoor Sahib.

    • Why do you want to see them? Do they make an effort to get in touch with you everyday? If not, would that suggest they no longer care?
    • I've always had a deep problems with folks accepting things like obe's, mbe's , awards from Lizzie etc.  Apart from the fact that you kneel before royals to accept them (I thought us Sikhs only bowed to Maharaj ).. you also kneel before what those people represent and kind of take an oath to them. Many of these folks who drone on about racism , empire etc...can't run fast enough to pick up their 'awards' from that very establishment (empire). Very hypocritical.  Suppose Arungzeb's ancestors were around, would you you be cool with accepting a Member of the Mughal Empire ? If you look at what the British did to the Sikh Raj and to our systems and beliefs it's not far off Arungzeb's , in fact Id say the British did a better job at weakening Sikhi. As for this 'celebration' of Sikhs fighting for the British in world wars etc... The reason was that the British paid well. Go to India not a single statue or commemoration of 'indians' who fought for the British. But you have loads of statues for Bose and his Indians (including plenty of Sikhs) who fought against the British interests in ww2.  These awards by the establishment basically are awards for compliance and a nudge nudge wink wink that you'll toe the establishment line going forward. I personally have an infinite amount of respect for folks like Benjamin Zephaniah who stick to their principles, rather than selling their souls to the lot who killed and persecuted our ancestors    https://www.theguardian.com/books/2003/nov/27/poetry.monarchy
