I don't know penji, I don't have knowledge of this, but this maybe a reason, although it's from sikhiwiki, so don't know the reliability of it.

It says some of the Gurus visited it. And did you see the picture in Gurmukhi?

"Kurukshetra is in fact the name of a region lying between the Ghaggar and Saraswati rivers, although a large township of this name has also come up, which includes several temple complexes, Kurukshetra University and district headquarters. The name of the adjoining ancient town in Thanesar. The twin towns are now popularly known as Kurukshetra.

It is among the more important sacred places of pilgrimage for Hindus being the scene of the epic battle sung of in the Gita. Several Sikh Gurus visited Kurukshetra, especially on the occasion of solar eclipses which attract vast crowds of Hindus, holy men, scholars and lay devotees, who throng to have a dip in the sprawling sacred tank. Guru Nanak Dev took advantage of one such occasion during the early yeas of the sixteenth century by preaching against superstitious rites and rituals. Guru Amar Das, who had made several trips to Kurukshetra as a pilgrim before his conversion to Sikhism, visited the place once at least in 1553. Bhai Jetha, later Guru Ram Das, probably accompanied Guru Amar Das on that visit.

Guru Hargobind visited Kurukshetra on the occasion of solar eclipse fair in 1638. He possibly passed through it earlier during his travel to Nanak Mata and back in 1632-33. Shrines commemorating all these visits were established and later developed into Gurdwaras. They are:

Gurdwarasidhbatiitihaas.JPG

Gurdwara Siddh Bati Patshahi Pahili - This stands on the southern bank of the main Kurukshetra tank and marks the spot where Guru Nank Dev, using his technique of teaching through practical demonstration, attracted an angry crowd of Brahman priests and pilgrims and in answer to their protest against his impertinent breach of religious injunctions, the Guru explained to them that eclipses of sun and moon are natural phenomena having nothing to do with mythical gods and demons, and that controversy regarding vegetarianism and non-vegetarianism is irrational. The two hymns of the topic that appear in // Malhar Ki in Guru Granth Sahib are believed to have been uttered on this occasion. A proper Gurdwara was first constructed here during the time of Bhai Udai Singh of Kaithal (1830-43)."

who own PDL and what happens to the originals after digitising ? I reckon we should have all purataan birs brought overseas to get properly cleaned and preserved by our own specialised task force with help from experts in document preservation , else I fear SGPC will reclaim to put to Agan Bhet which they have been doing for some years now .

I thought they didn't do this anymore??

Plus I think we should have contingencies for war. Look at what is happening to historical artifacts and buildings in Syria right now.

We have to prep for that type of stuff.

they took a hiatus remember the whitewashing of ancient murals at old gurudwarey ? well they started up that BS again too, if they are back on track they will disappear our docs too. My worry is given the number of larivaar saroops destroyed at this rate will we have any purataan saroops left to check for accuracies to restart production of larivaar saroops for installation. Then it will be a quick slide into erros in printing and like chinese whispers the whole message will be altered . If like one of my Brothers said about RSS that they know Dasam Granth and Sarabloh Granth already then they can make further inroads to those too, unless we make it our lives work to get Bani kant and maintain our own saroops

I think because we have saroops scattered across nations now, and the event of cheap digitised photography, we have some things on our side.

We need copies of everything valuable/rare and these copies to be scattered across the globe.

and should have our own dharmic literary wing :

Publishing :

to produce facsimiles of purantaan granths, pothis, teekey, kosh, mahapurakh commentaries on bani etc

print dharmic learning materials in different world languages

Calligraphy/ Illumination workshops:

to train Gursikhs in calligraphy skills and illuminations

to develop different fonts for use in digital publishing

to train masters of calligraphy to teach, maintain & run authorised workshops in the diaspora

to generate and bind new handwritten Saroops to order with full electronic chipping

to encourage children to write their own gutkey and pothis for their own and family's use

Bookbinding :

to teach how to take fresh folios and bind into full saroop from scratch

to create inks and paints which are acidfree and UVstable

to create paper stock which is acid free and suitably generated in satkar controlled setting

to maintain and repair pothis , birs and chip them

Archives :

Maintain satkar of purataan Bir Sahiban, and Pothian in temperature and humidity controlled rooms

provide security of past panthic knowledge with access to documented visitors Ideally in neutral soil

I love the idea of this, but unfortunately our lot are generally so anti-intellectual and materialistic, only about 3 dozen of us around the world would be interested!

I suspect there are loads of hidden gems out there that have been kept in private families that we don't even know about. Look at this one that popped up for a bit, notice the circumstances of the OP:
