(Originally this article was a Christian one, I Sikhi-ized it) Resist the 5 Chors Submit yourselves to Waheguru. Resist the 5 Chors, and they will flee from you. After we've humbled ourselves and submitted to Waheguru, we're then told to defy the 5 Chors. We don't passively resign ourselves to his attacks. We're to fight back. These 5 thieves are: Kam (Lust), Krodh (Rage), Lobh (Greed), Moh (Attachment) and Ahankar (Ego) Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji often tells one to live a life as a spiritual battle against the evil forces. How can we resist the 5 Chors? The first step is to accept Waheguru's bhana (will). You won't be able to say no to the 5 Chors unless you've sai…

today i was upset. i was arguing with someone i respect. i was having tension with friends. i was filled with gussa. it's hard for me, krodh is my number one vikkar, it drags me everywhere. i saw "Divided we Fall", and it made me sad, and angry, to see how people treat their fellow human beings. i still have it turning through my mind. photos of those beaten or murdered for the crime of wearing a turban. it makes me want to wear a bigger turban. but it also makes me uneasy. i am tired of the fire of anger burning inside me. so i did ardas. i cried. i took a hukamnama before i did sukhasan. this is what it said: ਦੇਵਗੰਧਾਰੀ ੫ ॥ Dayv-Gandhaaree, Fifth Meh…

Hello, I've been doing some quick searching but havent been able to find anything conclusive or specific, but found many other very interesting topics mind you!! Anyway....what are the views of sikhs on the place...or the non-place of dancing to/and/or bhangra music in the Sikh way of life? I don't think I've ever seen an amritdhari dance, but is that because it's not allowed? Would sikhs have danced in victory? Is there such thing as party-like celebrations or is the celebration done on a much higher level? I know so many sikhs who are so talented in the art of dance and expression through movement...I wonder what an amritdhari way of life means for their assumed to…

My Beautiful Dream - Khalsa Raj After five or six months of doing simran with the Sangat at the Gurdwara, in a dream one day, I reached Sri Harmandar Sahib. Sri Harmandar Sahib was decorated with white, red, blue, green and orange diamonds. I wanted to continue seeing it. I cannot describe the splendour of the scene before me. The building was studded with such shining stones, that their light was many times more than ordinary electric bulbs. Yet it was not glaring but soothing. They were not hot like bulbs. At that time there was a slight drizzle and I thought that my clothes were wet; but when I touched them they were dry. I bowed before Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, di…

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalasa! Vaheguru Ji Ke Fateh! A cousin of Guru Ram Das came to Amritsar from Lahore especially to ask the Guru to attend his son's wedding. The Guru said, "I will not be able to go because I can't leave my duties as Guru. Perhaps I can send one of my Sons instead." Guru Ram Das had three sons: Prithi Chand, called Prithia, Mahadev, and Arjan Mal. Prithia was in charge of collecting donations, of which he secretly took a portion for himself. When the Guru asked him to attend the wedding, Prithia said, "I have to take care of the collections. And I hate going to weddings." Actually, he was afraid if he were away from the Guru for too long, he might not be a…

Introduction In the time of Guru Arjan Dev jee, there was a powerful and rich Jat by the name of Teeratha. Teeratha was a follower of the Muslim sect of Sakhee Sarvar. He was the local leader of this sect and had hundreds of followers who all respected him. Teeratha would regularly lead the members of this sect on a pilgrimage to the main Sakhee Sarvar shrine now in Pakistan. Meeting the Guru Once when passing through Amritsar, Teeratha decided to visit Guru Arjan. He had heard that there was a great Guru who had a large following and this Guru was spiritually enlightened. He was curious to know who this Guru was and what he would say. He decided to stop off and see th…
