A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home from the war. He called his parents from San Francisco. "Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring home with me." "Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him." "There's something you should know the son continued, "he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mind and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us." "I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live." "No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us." "Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. S…

Jagjot Singh Childhood I was born and raised in Ottawa, to a typical Punjabi family. Parents were not very religious but I think they were just a bit confused about the whole thing. So from a young age my parents had my brothers and my hair cut and they gave the typical reasons, you will not find a job, get teased. The interesting thing is that my dad never cut his hair and hated people of his generation that did it when they came here. Ottawa in those days was basically "Hicksville", and the Sardars would wear hats or cut their hair when outside but to the Gurdwara where these huge Punjabi boat pugs. There were only a few Sardars who actually kept there hair. So anyw…

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my story of keeping Kesh (unshorn hair). I used to be a mona (cut my hair), who became keshdhari (stopped cutting my hair) and kept Guru’s Rehat (Sikh discipline). The story dates from May/April – August 2000. I have recorded and added my experiences from prior this time as well and how I have struggled to keep Kesh. My story isn’t anything exceptional, however I thought it might help to inspire those who might be in similar situation as I was in before. Guru Raka. --------------------------------…

Nice read ... --------- Vaaheguroo Vaaheguroo Vaaheguroo Vaaheguroo It's a story of Love, of His Love, which He's showing to all of us - to all Singhs and Singhnees, to all His children and even to those who never in their life even heard such word as 'S-I-K-H-I'. And I will tell you this story, because it's my story as well. I was born in Moscow in quite normal Russian family, with Mother and Father and few relatives. The whole thing started for me at the autumn of 1996, I was 16 at that time and just started my Uni. One day I was in the bus on my way to university and I saw someone in the window. That was a tall guy, bearded and TURBANED! And that was first t…

http://sikhchic.com/1984/straight_talk_an_open_letter_to_the_citizens_of_new_delhi_india T. SHER SINGH My heart bleeds over the brutalities suffered by Jyoti Pandey and her friend, and the suffering that their families are going through. I also feel the pain of the women in your city and of their families: the terror of having to negotiate the world every time you step out of your home to go to work or school, to step out in your neighbourhood, or to move from one to another to shop or visit or play or merely enjoy the amenities of life in a city. Your leaders, both political and religious, have already played their cards. Theyre not about to let you change anythi…

A little boy was spending his Saturday morning playing in his sandbox. He had with him his box of cars and trucks, his plastic pail, and a shiny, red plastic shovel. In the process of creating roads and tunnels in the soft sand, he discovered a large rock in the middle of the sandbox. The lad dug around the rock, managing to dislodge it from the dirt. With no little bit of struggle, he pushed and nudged the rock across the sandbox by using his feet. (He was a very small boy and the rock was very huge). When the boy got the rock to the edge of the sandbox, however, he found that he couldn't roll it up and over the wall. Determined, the little boy shoved, pushed, and pr…

Don't mind me, just going on about a bit of philosophy and my own thoughts here. In the last era (Tretajug) Mahabharat took place. All humans were meant to be 3 times big than what the average human is today (let's just assume internet stuff is true) so 18ft tall. They had amazing strength like Bhim could lift an elephant or a few could lift mountains, shoot an arrow that'll go for miles! But maybe they were told, "In Kaljug humans will be no more than 7ft tall, faithless will be leaders, cohabitation will b common, 18 years plus will become parents and average age will be 100..." They must have thought "Hang on! Won't God get angry? Faithless leaders? People deceiv…

A father and a family of sons who were perpetually quarreling among themselves. When he failed to heal their disputes by his exhortations, he determined to give them a practical illustration of the evils of disunion. One day he told his sons to bring him a bundle of sticks. When they had done so, he placed the faggot into the hands of each of them in succession, and ordered them to break it in pieces. They tried with all their strength, and were not able to do it. He next opened the faggot, took the sticks separately, one by one, and again put them into his sons' hands, upon which they broke them easily. He then addressed them in these words: "My sons, if you are of on…

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Everyone on life goes through struggles sometimes or the other. When we are going through them we question Waheguru! We ask waheguru why he did this. This is a short story, of why the struggles waheguru gives us in life are not to hurt us but to help us. A man found a cocoon of an emperor moth. He took it home so that he could watch the moth come out of the cocoon. On that day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to force the body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it coul…
