  3. Yeah you make a good point. I wonder how much of the population of Punjab do Sikhs make up today? Maybe 60 - 70%? There is a wave of immigrants from places like Delhi and Bihar. A lot of Hindus are living in, what would be Khalistan. We have to keep our majority strong. I like Ek0Sikh's suggestions (especially about raising orphaned children as Sikhs. We can open orphanages to take charge of this). Everybody has made some good points. I think it's gonna be a long battle. We have to start doing more parchaar of Sikhi. We need to start helping our poor, so they don't fall prey to Christian missionaries. We need to stop alienating the Dalit Sikh community. It's pushing them into the hands of Baba's and Deras. Stop caste discrimination all together. What the average person can do: Spread Sikhi amongst the people you know (Sikh and non-Sikh). Take your classmates or co-workers to gurdwara and get them interested in the faith. Guru Nanak did parchaar all over Asia and the Middle-East. It's our duty to spread his message. I remember going to a Mosque with a Muslim buddy and the Imam showed me his office. He had stacks of Qurans in almost any language you could think of. Spanish, Chinese, French, English, Italian, etc. I even saw this white lady convert to Islam. My point is, Muslims never waste an opportunity to do parchaar. We should also be looking to bring people from a Non-Punjabi background into the panth. We need to keep increasing our numbers if we want more political clout, and more power to fight for our rights anywhere in the world. If we do enough parchaar in India, there is no reason why Hindustan can't turn into Khalistan.

  5. "Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa wage Guru Ji ki fateh" Like me no doubt others have been reflecting on and seeking to make sense of the unfolding of events in the Sikh world and in particular Panjab over the past 3 weeks. Things have happened so quickly since the announcement that Bhai Rajowana was to be hanged at Patiala Jail on 31st March, that we have all been reacting to events on the ground. And in the process, with a few minor exceptions, Sikhs have demonstrated a remarkable unity which we all thought simply was impossible to achieve. Indeed, political rivals across different Alkali factions and political parties have all joined cries to have the death penalty annulled and Rajowana released. Even Dusht Beant Singh's family has come out in support of sparing the life of Rajoana! So, the question one needs to answer, given that Rajowana is not the first Sikh to face the gallows- take Professor Bhuller for example – what has changed now and why has Rajowana managed to change hearts and minds where others failed? This is not an easy question to answer but it can be no coincidence that the media, and in particular the Sikh Channel and Sangst TV, have been major players in exposing the story and inspiring the masses through 'wall-to-wall' coverage over the past 3 weeks. If ever one needed a demonstration of the power of the media, then here is a prime example. And it is this important new factor that I think changes the rules of the game. In this sense our starting point is much different now than it was in 1984, when quite frankly, there was nobody out there prepared to put the Sikh case. And, we all know what happens when oppressors think nobody is watching; they do what they like. Under those conditions of kill or be killed, Sikhs had no choice but to literally fight 'fire with fire'. And whilst most of those killed were innocent Sikhs, there can be no doubt there were innocent victims on all sides leaving a legacy of mistrust and enmity. If then there was no alternative to armed resistance, then today, things are different. Satellite TV, internet, social media and mobile phones are proving to be one of the most powerful weapons available to oppressed communities throughout the world. One only needs to look a the Arab springs and the way regimes that were apparently invincible toppling like domino overnight. And, I definitely think the Rajoana case does represent the beginnings of a Panjab and ultimately India spring and Sikh Channel will play its full role in supporting those who are calling for liberation from criminal gangs masquerading as politicians and lawmen. And it is this truth that Rajoana has brought to the attention of the Panjabi masses. It is not that people didn't know this; everybody knows that the system in India and Panjab is riddled with corruption, where the guilty go free and the innocent languish in Jails. No, what Rajowana did was to dare to speak out and awaken the sleeping masses and this is only the beginning. Unless we take the struggle to the next stage, I am afraid we will lose the momentum and Bhai Rajowana will simply going the many other political prosoners that have been left to rot in India's jails. So, where do we go from here? Well now that we have the power of the media we need to consolidate and build on the platform that Sikh Channel had provided. We need to ensure that the masses across Panjab, either through the internet, youtube or satellite have access to the Sikh Channel broadcasts. We also need to confront the criminal politicians, 'lawmen' and 'god men' and make them accountable. And we should do this in a peaceful and civil way and we should definitely not stoop down the the gutter level which they would like. We also need to defend our people on the ground and in prisons. We need to have a campaign whereby ALL Sikh prisoners attached with the political violence in Panjab are given the status of political prisoners or prisoners of war. We need to as a Khalsa Panth from the Akaal Takht officially, like the IRA and others, declare an end to all military actions, which is what Rajoana indirectly has said in his letters. This will then create an opportunity for Sikhs in Panjab to spread the message of Khalistan or whatever settlement they want. We must avoid turning to violence. Bhai Rajowana quite explicitly said he wanted a peaceful mass social movement fighting for justice for Sikhs and other oppressed people. That is not to say that we don't decent ourselves, but as Guru Gobind Singh Ji explicitly instructed, we only take the sword when ALL other means have been exausted. If we are to gain the support of peace loving people throughout the world then we must reclaim the traditions of Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Teg Bhadur Ji, of Jetho dar mocha and the many other moments in our history where we have sought dialogue as a means to defeat the enemy. We must In terms of the question of Khalistan, personally, I am neither for or against it. At a Sikh I have a universalist outlook on life, and generally speaking I abhor any kind of nationalism and religious fundementalism, be it Hindu right wing Hindutva RSS, or or anybody else. I am however, very interested in discussing how we can develop a system of governance in Panjab (and ultimately the rest of India) built on the principles of Gurmat and the Khalsa ideology. A country where there is no racial, religious, gender and caste discrimination. A classless society where corruption has no place, where fake babas face the full force of the law, where education is given a priority and where Panjabis once again take their place as defenders of the downtrodden across India and further afield and where the Panjab, once the bread basket of India and the most advanced state is returned to its rightful status as a progressive force for change in the whole region. I believe that by doing such we will have de-facto created Khalistan, in action if not in word. And if we can prove that such a system based on Khalsa ideology can work for Panjabi's then others will also demand such a system. After all all systems of governance throughout human history were based on one ideology or another. Within a matter of 50 years during the early part of the 20th Century we saw a small pamphlet called the 'Communist Manifesto' written by Karl Marx and Frederick Engles inspiring revolutions thoughout the world. Alas, they failed because of flaws in the ideology. But I believe what we have with the teachings and actions of our Guru is a far superior ideology. If the suffering of millions of people under communism led to the ultimate obliteration of communism, then capitalism is also in crisis. Today we have rampant corruption across the capitalist world, including India, and we are seeing people rising up against a system on the verge of bankruptcy. The iron is hot and now is the opportunity for Sikhs to make their claim to an alternative system. If you read Bhai Balwant Singh Rajowana's letters very carefully, what you get is a yearning for a better world, a world where there is true justice, where human life has some value, where the true principles and values of Sikhism are projected through the sovereign and untainted institution of Akaal Takht. Rajowana has done his duty, the question now is are we prepared to take on the challenge? Only time will tell, but I for one am very hopeful. Not only has the Sikh Quom woken-up, it has also grown-up. Along with our five K's we now have to be adopt the five C's in taking our struggle forward, namely: creativity, caring, collective, courageous and clever. "Wahe guru Ji Ka Khalsa whahe guru ji ki fateh" Dr Gurnam Singh Sikh Channel Presenter.

  6. I ran this through a translator and this is what it came up with.... Good day, sirs! My dear compadre has just procured himself an automated nicotine delivery system which, quite remarkably, contains no tobacco! As it is bereft of such carcinogenic additives, it must surely be acceptable to toke, would you not agree? I myself chose to partake of this modern delight and found it to carry a very palatable hint of strawberries, though my reservations are whether it is wholly appropriate to imbibe this concoction, given my religious convictions. Would you concur? That sounds about right.

  8. I agree that MOST of the chardi kala singhs are living abroad and agree that they have great "junoon" and intellect. But it is SAD(not shromani akali dal badal) to note that for the MOST of them their PUNJABI speaking skills are EXTREMELY POOR. I was watching a programme live from Darbar Sahib with Gyani Vedanti and the Singh asking questions to Gyani ji was speaking utterly poorly. It is a shame that some of the British born sikhs can't speak punjabi fluently and they talk a lot about Khalistan. French, German, Russian and so many others take pride in their language. that doesn't mean they don't know English. I think this shows that we are still "gulam" somewhere. I am not asking to stop speaking English altogether. Do's speak english at work or with colleagues. speak english with englishman/women. speak english when you are representing matters to the MPs or the parliament. Don'ts speaking english when sitting with Punjabis speaking english when on SIKH channel speaking english when you are actually discussing sikh issues with your OWN people. Often the argument against is- that they want to reach to the youngsters who can't read/understand or write punjabi. if you carry on reaching out to them in english they won't learn punjabi. If they can't even learn and speak punjabi then that is a SHAME.

  10. Just a few points: We should honour the Jail Superintendent who refused to hang Bhai Balwant Singh. He has played a great role over the last few weeks. Also how can we proactively help have the leaders in Punjab released from prison? They have not committed any crimes. They led peaceful protests. Is it a crime to lead a peaceful protest in a Democracy? Why are reporters arrested (Sikh channel and sangat tv) for filming in a Democracy?

  12. Chandigarh (April 2, 2012)–Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara, who was convicted in the Beant “Singh” assassination case, has responded to claims made by Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana in his letters written from the Patiala jail. Bhai Tara, who is currently at large and is believed to be in Pakistan, is head of Khalistan Tigers Force. He was sentenced by the Punjab and Haryana court, along with Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and others for their involvement in the execution of the former Punjab Chief Minister. Along with Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora, he made a sensational escape from Chandigarh’s High Security Burial Jail. Bhai Tara is believed to have worked under Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara’s leadership when he was an active member of Babbar Khalsa International. Bhai Dilawar Singh Sacrificed Himself to Punish “Beanta” Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara has stated that during the Beant Singh assassination court hearings, he had glorified the martyrdom of Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar openly, claiming that Bhai Sahib had sacrificed himself to punish “Beanta,” the former Punjab Chief Minister responsible for genocide of Sikhs in the 1990′s. Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana had asked the Babbar Khalsa International to clear its stance on the martydom of Bhai Dilawar Singh. It should be noted that Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara had appealed to the Supreme Court on the basis of “innocence.” To answer Bhai Balwant Singh’s question, Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara stated that “the fact that Bhai Hawara had claimed innocence does not mean that Babbar Khalsa does not consider Bhai Dilawar Singh a shaheed,” according to Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara, “such tactics are employed by lawyers of Singhs for legal defense in court.” Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara stated that it is not wrong for Bhai Hawara to be fighting his case in the Supreme Court. “Perhaps it could be a tactic to keep the Sikh freedom movement alive. But whatever the reason,” stated Bhai Tara, “we need to respect the intentions of our brother [bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara].” Bhai Resham Singh Germany – Worthy of Much Respect Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara also stated that Bhai Resham Singh Babbar is one of the forefathers of the Sikh independence struggle and is worthy of any Sikh’s respect. Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana had highlighted some differences with Bhai Resham Singh Babbar, who is currently living in Germany. According to Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara, Bhai Resham Singh is still attached to the freedom struggle and providing respectable supervision to the Khalistan movement. Role of Informants and Differences Amongst Singhs Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara wrote that many times, Governments plant informants (aka “cats”) within so-called guerrilla groups to sabotage the freedom struggle of the oppressed communities. Many times, the existence of cats becomes evident only after damage is already done. The same was done to Bhai Rajoana and Bhai Hawara, who were both arrested because of informants. According to Bhai Tara, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana was arrested after a tip off by “Ravinder Singh Ravi,” while Bhai Hawara was caught by one “Rana.” Both of these persons were deployed as informants by the Punjab Police to keep an eye on the activities of Singhs. Their original role in the freedom movement only became known after the arrest of Bhai Rajoana and Bhai Hawara. In his note, Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara relayed to Bhai Rajoana that “even though both of them are not together today, their aim of Sikh Freedom is still the same. “ Bhai Tara stated that even though his fate has placed him [physically] far away from Rajoana, he forever stands firm at his side. In Bhai Tara’s own words, he has always, from the bottom of his heart, respected Bhai Rajoana’s decision to sacrifice himself. Bhai Tara also pledged to carry on the freedom movement until his last breath. At last, he requested all Singhs to refrain from indulging in any controversy and to continue to have communal respect for each other.

  13. It's not that people don't want Khalistan, it's just that most people don't think it's attainable. If you want it, then you gotta show them how they can get it. If other people see the movement pick up steam, then they will jump on the bandwagon.

  14. Most replies I’ve read all wholly wrong, I think people are (due to lack of knowledge) missing the point, I’ve seen a video where they believed that Guru Gobind singh jee had lust and that the flow of his writings was a sign of young age and hormones.. I mean really, the way I’ve phrased it to a friend is very simple, what gives you the right to give opinion on Divinity, have you reached the Level where you can Merge your 5 elements in to the earth or can take your Soul out and travel the universe, if the answer is no then what does your opinion on spiritually matter. It’s a shame that people that have been born in to a Sikh family have such little understanding of what Gurbani is, I mean people are so used to talking about religion they actually think their opinions have some meaning and that they have the right to give one. I’ll put this way to the people that are highly educated, whatever field it maybe, say you were approached by a laymen that had just read few articles on your subject and tried to give a seminar, im sure you would laugh as you would see the flaws. How then are people on these forums doing any different, all i see is tens of different people with limited knowledge and hardly any practical Jevens, trying give advice on the Punj choor, which baghat kaaber jee admited losing to again and again and again in his past lifes too, so what insight do people here have that he didn’t. I know that this place is a open forum and anyone is entitled to his/her opinion, buts it’s more detrimental to the person who gets bad advice or advice that he think suites him best, which might not even be correct. Solution is having Gur Sikhs with practical Jevens who have defeated the Punj Choor and reunited with Vaheguru. And no I am not one of them

  15. Admins: why is this geezer allowed to post links to Jagbani .... this paper has always been a mouthpiece for the Arya Samaj. We don't need their pro-Shiv Sena stance on anything ....even if its just a regular news report like this one. Read about the Arya Samaji Lala Jagat Narain who founded this newspaper group and always advocated against Punjabi....and Sant Bhindranwale Ji and the Dharam Yudh Morcha. Even if they now have a Punjabi language publication please dont be fooled; their ideology will still be the same. We don't need them on FREE THINKING Sikh Forums like Sikhsangat. ADMINS please deny them the oxygen of publicity. Mr Vijayender what are your views on the scum that is Shiv Seva and the anti-Sikh nazi Arya Samaj agenda?

  20. You don't seem to have a basic understanding of genetics. I have as much of my father's "stock" as I do of my mother's. Going back, my Nana, Nani, Dada, and Dadi comprise an equal part of my ancestry. We can then go back to my 8 great-grandparents. 8 different surnames, all an equal part of my ancestry. So if my last name is Smith and I have a great-grandfather with the last name Brown, I share as much blood with a member of the Brown clan as I do with a member of the Smith clan. We can keep doing this and going further and further back. The point is, due to naming conventions where the father's surname is carried on, we get the idea that we are somehow more closely related to people with the same surname as us than we would be to anyone else. But that's not true. If you are going to worry about marrying someone with the same last name, you might as well worry about marrying someone with the same last name as ANY of your ancestors. It goes to show how silly it is. It's usually easy to check if you have any substantial relation with someone. If you don't, then don't worry about having the same surname. Marrying someone from the same pind is an entirely different matter, as there is probably some blood relation. However, if you have different ancestral pinds, having the same surname is probably not a problem at all.

  23. If in 50 years from now a group of ignorant people say that Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is not the Bani of the Gurus, then do we say which bani is distorted and which one is not about Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj? The same people are being born over and over and putting doubt on Gurus Bani. Those that are Gursikhs, they see the play of Akal Purakh and bow to his play and never lift a finger at the Gurus Bani. The Bani which people all call Guru today will be slandered by the same soul, but they would be in different forms. Akal Purakhs play is so wonderful that it puts the most intelligent person into the pits of hell. In due time, the Bani of Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj will not be understood by the general public and they will yell to the sky that i know Sri Waheguru ji would never write these words, this is not his Bani.
