Ok there are two main things in play here the economic times (downturn) and Race politics. during the Eighties when there was the recession my Dad lost his job as an engineering draftsman , now he had a full engineering degree when he hit England's shores in 1963 but was told that was not good enough (despite it being accredited by an english organisation) , to re do his qualifications so he used to work the docks and studied part-time. He then got this job - Fast forward to eighties again and he was again told that he was not as qualified as his contemporaries despite being so , so he became a businessman in his own right to not have BS excuses flung at him. The way I see it this country at that time would give a job to an unpard gora before any brown face . Comedy is well and good, and I'm always up for a laugh, but I've begun to notice how most Asian comedians in the diaspora have to knock their own culture in order to get laughs from the white man. It may seem innocuous at first - and I swear, I'm not turning into a SJW, lol - but what may seem like a harmless riff on cultural differences actually does a lot more long-term damage to our identity than at first sight. It is the comedy of observation, which is as old as the hills themselves, but when it's primarily a white audience from whom we wish to gain laughs, it does take on a slightly different context, whether we like it or not. The punchline is always "Look at us; look at how backwards and unsophisticated we are. Please laugh at us, white people. Laugh at our antiquated ways. We are so silly, aren't we?" I don't believe Asian comedians deliberately go out of their way to create these "culture clash" routines in order to have a dig at their own people, but the fact that they don't seem to see any inherent, long-term issues with their brand of comedy speaks volumes about the ingrained inferiority complex that's clearly present in the Asian subconscious. You have even the younger generation on YouTube such as Lily Singh doing similar dress-up / culture clash routines, and I always wonder what a white person with a couple of brain cells available to rub together must take away from such apparent self-deprecation. What conclusions do they draw from such routines, aside from the surface reaction of, "It's just a laugh"? If we keep beating the same drum, eventually you'll convince vast swathes of our future generations that we do belong to a lesser culture that should be laughed at and mocked, no matter how seemingly harmless. When there were the vast migrations of the 20th century of non-white cultures flocking to the west, such comedy was par for the course; it was fresh, exciting, and it was a way of the host countries getting to grips with these new arrivals and their ways in a manner they wouldn't otherwise care to discover. Now that we're well into the 21st century, it's safe to say we should be capable of moving on from the basic template of comedy that was in vogue in the 1950's up to the 1970's. Let's not even get into the whole political leanings of these, primarily, liberal Asian comedians, who are cut from the same cloth as those who pretend as if Asians are one homogeneous group without distinction, as they willfully ignore the nuanced and clearly delineated differences between us based on religion, culture, geography, language, etc. As much some of us would like to pretend "we're all in it together", the reality on the ground would suggest the opposite is true.

"Guest" kertanis/raagis (not resident to Nanaksar) can be invited and they are not required to be celibate. Note that there is no requirement for life-long celibacy - if a Bihungum decides that he (and there are only he Bihungums at Nanaksar from what I know) cannot continue a celibate life, then he is free to pursue a house-holder life as a married person (which is very much accepted in Sikhi and given the highest of statuses). Also, there are those who are associated with Nanaksar (received education or other Sikhi inspiration from Nanaksar or follow Nanaksar Maryada in regards to seva, Rehat, etc.) who also affiliate themselves with Nanaksar which could be married householders and there are the resident Nanaksar sevadaars (Bihungums), who must be celibate.

40 path of sukhmani is actually a way to descipline the wild mind and train it to actually sit and do path. Because we are so much engrossed in our present lives ... our worldly gifts start to matter to us a great deal. I was once stuck in this state too. We want to pass our exams, we want to get married, we want children, we want our mum in laws to be kind to us. We want peace, we want everyone to love us, we want a job, we want a house, we want big money and we want to win the lottery because our money does not seem enough. So back to the start ... why are we having to do 40 sukhmani sahib dhe path? Would we have to do them in the first place if we had been doing sukhmani sahib dha path everyday? Sukhmani sahib dha path is so important to us ... for everyday. When you start 40 sukhmani path.... start with ardaas everyday... and end with ardaas. In the ardaas only tell God you have done sukhmani sahib dha path and ask forgiveness for any mistakes and ask for strength and inspiration to continue it the next day too. It is important to realise a truth which is our main aim is to perform sukhmani sahib dha path everyday. Try your best to do it and sacrifice your sleep as well if need be. It is your devotion to God which is more important than the number of paths you do. When you think 40 sukhmani path it gives the brain a target. Apart from that it has no meaning. People do one path and get what they want. They never do it again. That is not very right. Some people may do 40 and not get what they pray for. They stop doing it and that is not right either. People finish the 40 and then wonder if they should continue doing it or not!!! That is not right either. It is not written anywhere that you need to do 40 path. It is only just a guide ideally for starters or for those who want to make some Amrit. Placing water in a jug and reciting 40 path will give you a guide as to when to change the water. The water thus produced is Amrit and is infused with naam. Drinking it will fill you with naam and whoever you give it to will also recite sukhmani. I am saying this from personal experience because my mum after a miscarriage went to the Guradwara and a woman who she had never met... told her to always do 40 sukhmani sahib path and make amrit after every 40 days. She started doing it and never left sukhmani for all her life. She always does it even when there are interruptions. She marks where she stopped and continues when she rememebers. she never sleeps without finishing it. Sukhmani sukh amrit prabh naam. Sukhmani sahib is the biggest and the most important bani given to us. I was reading somewhere where kalyug (the devil) came to the Guru Granth sahib ji and threw about the flowers and the rumale. Sant ji then asked who done it and he confessed that he did it and that he does not come where sukhmani is recited. Sukhmani is the devils greatest enemy. Therefore sukhmani sahib path is done continuously in the Nanaksar deras. Let us all pray and be grateful to Arjun Dev Ji who sat on the tati tavi for 5 days and who gave us this great bani. Let us do our part and at least recite it everyday and encourage others to do so. For how else can we ever repay Guru Arjun Dev Ji for this amolak heera which he has given to the world. Read and understand the meanings of sukhmani too because it explains to you everything about your life.

We have been taught how and what to ask in this shabad God will never deny anything to anyone. We are what we are because of what we have asked from the Lord. A worldly father will however deny his son something. In this case Harsharan bhaji is referring to a worldly father and not God. I remember this sakhi where a certain sant questioned about the truth behind God giving everyone what they need without looking and judging their devotion to him. Akirtgana nu paldha.... He even gives sinners what they ask for without thinking about their many sins. (For that is what we all are... we are so deeply steeped in maya. the only person who is free from maya is the one who has swaas swaas simran like all the guruji's. What else would give Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji the strength to sit for 5 days on the tati tavi and recite tera kiya meeta laage) Back to the sakhi... God decided to let this particular Sant Ji give to everyone the next day. Sant Ji gave to everyone and left out one person. God asked him why he left out that one person. He gave a reason of like that person had not said his prayers or something. God rebuked him. This shows that we all cannot reach the level of equality with which God our true father sees the whole world. He will give to everyone. He does not forget anyone because he is pura. Satgur mera pura. Any other type of father will fall short of matching up to the fatherly love which only God can give. Even the Christians believe in this concept. If you become the son of the father, then what the father has will become yours. You need to serve the father with unconditional love. Serve the father for what he is ..... YOUR TRUE FATHER,

Yes penji, you are an inspiration to us women that go through bad times and give hope when they have nobody to turn to. I'm so glad to hear that you have turned round your awful experience to help others. You are a very brave sister, from which other sisters should learn from to be strong and to defend themselves against negative people. You are right, some parents would disown their daughters or not give the required support due being ashamed of the situation. This is where we need to, as a community educate parents also of what they go through and there should be support for the whole family so they are not belittled or isolated from others.
