  1. To be a true bahangam, also found in puratan Sampardas one requires a very high avastha otherwise the mind will constantly falter and mistakes are made more readily than if living in Grist Jeevan. Many have fallen at the first hurdle - kaam. Respect to the ones who are controlling their urges and still managing seva of Guru Sahib with clean hearts.

  2. I know a handful of Singhs who follow Bibeki maryada and you wouldn't know it to look at them, because they don't make a song and dance about it. More importantly, they're adults. They're in gainful employment, therefore have their own disposable income in order to live that lifestyle and fulfill their religious dietary requirements. It's a choice they made based on what they felt was the right thing to do according to their interpretation of Sikhi. Basically, they made an informed decision and are leading a lifestyle that doesn't affect any third party. A child has no business dictating such terms to his mother. If he (the child in Jagsaw's situation) feels so strongly about it, he should go find a job and learn how to cook. Plus, he should insist his mother doesn't wash or iron his clothes, in-case she pollutes his garments with her "unclean" touch. But, anyway, the bibek discussion has gone down a cul-de-sac that isn't wholly relevant to the discussion. The topic is about Hundal's grossly erroneous interpretation of Sikhi, and the devious manner in which he delights in throwing Sikhs under the bus in order to smooth the journey of his Muslim and / or Regressive Left sponsors that put food on his table. When I have the time, I'll try to make a post on why comparing the dietary requirements of certain Sikhs is a completely different kettle of fish to the systematic theocracy that is political Islam which is indisputably against the plurality of religious existence, and proceeds to make inroads into non-Muslim countries through the gentle yet concerted pushing of boundaries on multiple fronts, be they social and political. I make no promises, though, lol.

  3. Serious questions: who prepares his food if he refuses his mum's cooking? How does he eat if he doesn't take food prepared from non-Gursikhs? He can't buy school lunches at the canteen due to obvious reasons, and he clearly isn't going to let his mum prepare a packed lunch for him. Snacks and junk food are off the table because they're prepared / manufactured by non-Gursikhs in non-bibeki environments. Does he only eat at the Gurdwara? Surely that isn't very practical. Plus, what madman allowed a 10 year-old to take Amrit, and more importantly, how is a pre-pubescent child dictating such terms to his parents when he relies on them to stay alive?

  4. One thing we need to be careful about as Sikhs when tackling the issue of Islamic extremism is not to hitch our wagon to the mainstream white narrative that's dominated by undercover racists. As we can see, when that happens, we leave ourselves open to accusations of racism and hypocrisy. As Sikhs, all criticism of Islam MUST be framed from our perspective; how it affects us and our people. Of course, there are going to be overlapping issues with whites and other groups, but I don't think we should be relying on louder, non-Sikh voices giving us legitimacy and a platform to voice our unique concerns. Plus, being against Islam and a certain type of Muslim is not reason to keep our mouths shut, lest the tables are turned in some hypothetical situation. That's moral cowardice, I.E. "I best not speak up against injustice, just in-case the goreh target me next time." That's just wrong on so many levels I just don't know where to begin. As Sikhs, being vigilant against Islam is NOT siding with white racists. It's NOT a mutually exclusive deal. I moved on from that. Not concerned.

  6. Weigh up each incident situation by situation. The word 'paki' doesn't have the power it used to: Fast forward a few decades from when it was commonly used, we find that the people who used it most freely (lower working class honkys) are an underclass who've been totally outclassed and outmaneuvered, with the lowest academic achievements, living in council property, totally out of sync with all the changes that have happened around them. Name calling is one thing, but I think it's physical attacks we have to be careful of, especially males. In the UK, there is some reserve about attacking females, but males are considered fair game. The more the wider anglosphere subtly okays open racism (with things like right-wing media, Donald trump, BNP, EDL, Ukip) the more the ahhhm racist honky (hitherto forced to keep his head down) gets emboldened to take risks and take liberties. Especially as many of them have been brewing and seething for decades now. Things like grooming revelations or terrorists attacks are triggers for them, but remember these whites are hypocrites because they convenient ignore the blatant pedophilia that has been taking place throughout their society especially in the media industry and in the highest levels of the government itself. They also like to turn a blind eye to their own governments culpability in helping Islamist fundamentalism grow through unethical foreign policies. Reasoning doesn't work with such people, they only respond to violence and fear. It looks like the old days may make a come back? If they do, how we fare depends on how strong and brave apnay are, I have to say, remembering the old old generation and my one - our new lot generally look, act and sound like a complete bunch of tamed pu55ies. In the event of protracted strife, it's likely that the really young ones growing up in it will become hardened and provide leadership in time. Well that's what happened in the 70s/80s anyway.

  11. As long as the meaning is not twisted up some people do sing dharnas from gurbani to get the message across to people while not sounding too religious. Nanaksar however I would say offer the greatest inspiration to people who want to work and progress seriously in the religious/spiritual part of their lives. They simply want you to get down to reality and do maximum naam jap for yourself which is the only thing which is important. That is the whole purpose of us having been given this human body and sent down on this earth. asa mehla 5 Bhei parapat Manukh dheriya in Rehras - the whole pauri which we are supposed to read everyday explains this clearly. Anything else we do is going to be of no use to us. So which nanksar dharnaas exactly can you say are wrong?

  13. Thats nothing......Think about this for one moment and think how it looks to all non-Sikhs: My cousin's young son is 10 years old and became amritdhari this year. He won't eat food if his own mother touches it (because she's not amritdhari) and if he does touch it (eat it) the Gurdwara says he is an apostate (i.e equivelent of a kaffir) and his baptism is revoked. Think about that for one moment : A Child won't/can't eat food touched by his own mother. The same woman from whose belly he came out of just a few years ago. See what I mean now about understanding that there are people out there who can, do and are ready to hate us just as much as they hate the muslims ad for exactly the same reasons. Hate and bigotry are like boomerangs. They will always eventually come back to the person that throws it.

  15. I have a pakistani muslim friend she has been reading up on Sikhism and no longer wants to be a muslim. She wanted to know how does she become a sikh? She isnt ready to become baptised as a Khalsa but does believe in the Sikh scriptures. So is there a way she can convert without her strict family finding out but still identifying herself as a Sikh?

  16. I see sulliyan with hijabs are getting verbally/psychologically abused and sometimes attacked (by other females interestingly). I've seen that umpteen Sikh men have been getting attacked and murdered over the last few years (especially in the US), but other than that bibi who got killed in that Gurdwara shooting in the states, where are these apneean that are getting physically attacked in the west? If it's happening, why aren't the victims highlighting it? Honkys are more likely to make it an issue if they do than blokes. I mean, that attack in Wales where someone tried to chop off some apna's head off shouting 'white-power' - it didn't even get any publicity (well hardly any). If you know something the rest of us don't - share it!

  17. The fact of that matter is that at Harmandhir Sahib miracles occur almost on a daily basis, ones who spend large amounts of time there can tell you of many sakhis like this, so whether this specific case is true or not almost becomes irrelevant. Can you imagine the paap accrued if this family are trying to con Sangat and that at Harmandhir Sahib of all places...jamdhoots will be rubbing their hands with glee .

  21. If they started the service at 2.00 a.m. then I suppose they may want to retire for some rest. So after their nitnem they do sukhasan. I am also assuming that in the days of war, that is probably what they did. As they may not want to leave Sri Guru Granth Sahib unattended when they are out at war. It does leave he Guradwara visitors in a bit of a predicament to know that you are going to be visiting the guradwara and performing a mata tek when Sri Guru Granth Sahib is at sukhasan. When we had to go out anywhere we used to perform sukhasan earlier than normal. Keeping in mind that they also do not cook at the premises, maybe that is why they perform sukhasan, however that cannot be a valid reason as sangat is always ready to do seva. Perhaps they dont want parkash when there is no ceremony going on. The best person who can explain the deeper reason maybe themselves. if we look deeper into things then Guru has given each person a different hukam to follow. Baba Bhandha singh bahadur was given a different set of rules and Pande khan was given something else to follow. It may be that (Nanaksar) priests are simply at a different spiritual level than the rest of us. I was reading about the Buddist explanation on the stages of enlightenment. Even after initial enlightenment - the soul takes birth 7 times in order to purify itself more. These people have a reduced level of lust, moh, anger etc. They are able to remain celibate. Therefore Nanaksar maryada maybe more appropriate for their needs in order to attain full enlightenment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_stages_of_enlightenment

People come to this site to get some religious inspiration. (not that I have something bad against that your flashing pic which you have placed there. I always have to scroll up or down the screen to put it out of my view.) I have been hoping that you may be changing it soon - and place something more sikh like - which will both portray a more favourable image of yourself and also inspire peoples thoughts. It would also avoid people telling you the below save me the scrolling trouble please. You need to look into this.

  26. Funny u mention that, just 2day on nihals show which i was listening back to, a comment was made by an elderly muslim man, which left nihal speechless. The grandad said, how his granddaughter, went on a school trip to a gurdwara, and had langar/coke. She told her grandad, that her friends have told her, she is now a non-muslim/kuffar/dirty n unclean, coz she had food/drink frm kuffars. 8 yr olds r beleiving this in this country! I wasnt that shocked by those comments, but even i was slightly taken back by that...if that makes sense.

  27. Because moving to Canada from London is like moving from Jalandhar City to a small town in Bihar. You'll get a much bigger house for the price but its only something you should do once you're retired and want to live out the rest of your life in quiet. Its a backward step. And you shouldn't for one moment think I'm saying things are better there overall (as I was just talking about the employment situation) because if you ever visit downtown Vancouver and you see more hopeless homeless destitute junkies than you've ever seen in your life this side of Bombay you quickly begin to see the realities of life in a provincial town cut off from the large cities of the world. So, as you can see, my point was purely about employment and that is something we here in the UK can rectify too if we regain that trouble making fighting spirit and force change. Most people however, can't even be arsed to do a freedom of information request themselves let alone act upon the findings of someone else's request and answers, The point is that we the people in the UK need to

  28. The platform is the mind with a jiyote on it. Time is running out and in the distance there are the five who should be occupying the mind - Sat, Santokh, Dhaya, Dharam . . . . but who is in control of the mind? Who is owning the mind ? Kaam, Karodh , Lobh, Moh and Hankaar.

  29. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Practicality? Because tidy whities or boxers could be yanked down very easily during any activity (boys' locker room antics). A Kashera is the underwear of a tyar-bar-tyar Gursikh (man or woman) who is ever ready to take on any challenge. It is supremely practical in its security, simplicity and conservative nature. Even for a woman, any person who would dare to subdue a woman for any molestation or rape would face a challenge removing a Kashera if appropriately tied. It may very well buy enough time for that Bibi to retaliate. Guru Sahib gave us his own form, and that form has sentimental, practical, spiritual and temporal purposes.

  30. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Residents of Nanaksar deras/Gurdwaras are celibates - they are called Bihungums. From what I understand, the intent of Nanaksar was to provide a place for those who are solely devoted to kamai and Bhagti to have a place to pursue such activities with a single mind. Raagis, paathis and other sevadaars resident to that dera (thaat) or Gurdwara are to be celibate. "Guest" kertanis/raagis (not resident to Nanaksar) can be invited and they are not required to be celibate. Note that there is no requirement for life-long celibacy - if a Bihungum decides that he (and there are only he Bihungums at Nanaksar from what I know) cannot continue a celibate life, then he is free to pursue a house-holder life as a married person (which is very much accepted in Sikhi and given the highest of statuses). Also, there are those who are associated with Nanaksar (received education or other Sikhi inspiration from Nanaksar or follow Nanaksar Maryada in regards to seva, Rehat, etc.) who also affiliate themselves with Nanaksar which could be married householders and there are the resident Nanaksar sevadaars (Bihungums), who must be celibate.

  32. 40 path of sukhmani is actually a way to descipline the wild mind and train it to actually sit and do path. Because we are so much engrossed in our present lives ... our worldly gifts start to matter to us a great deal. I was once stuck in this state too. We want to pass our exams, we want to get married, we want children, we want our mum in laws to be kind to us. We want peace, we want everyone to love us, we want a job, we want a house, we want big money and we want to win the lottery because our money does not seem enough. So back to the start ... why are we having to do 40 sukhmani sahib dhe path? Would we have to do them in the first place if we had been doing sukhmani sahib dha path everyday? Sukhmani sahib dha path is so important to us ... for everyday. When you start 40 sukhmani path.... start with ardaas everyday... and end with ardaas. In the ardaas only tell God you have done sukhmani sahib dha path and ask forgiveness for any mistakes and ask for strength and inspiration to continue it the next day too. It is important to realise a truth which is our main aim is to perform sukhmani sahib dha path everyday. Try your best to do it and sacrifice your sleep as well if need be. It is your devotion to God which is more important than the number of paths you do. When you think 40 sukhmani path it gives the brain a target. Apart from that it has no meaning. People do one path and get what they want. They never do it again. That is not very right. Some people may do 40 and not get what they pray for. They stop doing it and that is not right either. People finish the 40 and then wonder if they should continue doing it or not!!! That is not right either. It is not written anywhere that you need to do 40 path. It is only just a guide ideally for starters or for those who want to make some Amrit. Placing water in a jug and reciting 40 path will give you a guide as to when to change the water. The water thus produced is Amrit and is infused with naam. Drinking it will fill you with naam and whoever you give it to will also recite sukhmani. I am saying this from personal experience because my mum after a miscarriage went to the Guradwara and a woman who she had never met... told her to always do 40 sukhmani sahib path and make amrit after every 40 days. She started doing it and never left sukhmani for all her life. She always does it even when there are interruptions. She marks where she stopped and continues when she rememebers. she never sleeps without finishing it. Sukhmani sukh amrit prabh naam. Sukhmani sahib is the biggest and the most important bani given to us. I was reading somewhere where kalyug (the devil) came to the Guru Granth sahib ji and threw about the flowers and the rumale. Sant ji then asked who done it and he confessed that he did it and that he does not come where sukhmani is recited. Sukhmani is the devils greatest enemy. Therefore sukhmani sahib path is done continuously in the Nanaksar deras. Let us all pray and be grateful to Arjun Dev Ji who sat on the tati tavi for 5 days and who gave us this great bani. Let us do our part and at least recite it everyday and encourage others to do so. For how else can we ever repay Guru Arjun Dev Ji for this amolak heera which he has given to the world. Read and understand the meanings of sukhmani too because it explains to you everything about your life.
