  1. Koi brother, sorry for the misunderstanding there. ] point i was trying to put is that Dasam Granth Sahib will always be placed lower than our 11th and eternal guru Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji; the same way Miri is lower than Piri but however both are part of our panth, ideology and dharam. All granths are Inseparable from our khalsa panth and those who try to create shanka or speak against them always perish to their fruitless and soulless life.

  3. There is nothing wrong with any Sikh organisation or Gurdwara helping the local community when situations occur where people need help. It is when KA run off the out of the way areas where there is no Sikh community and expend Sangat's money. The Rohingya issue was a case in point, charirties received millions in donations for western countries andf govts and kA just duplicated their work. What KA is doing in Delhi is good but it would be also better if the spent their resources to look after the families of farmers who committed suicide as well as offering financial counselling to stop farmers from getting into debt.

  4. yes, Christian missionaries have developed the most successful method to convert indians. All it requires is a stage, a funky pastor dressed like a 80s Bollywood hero, wearing black shades with the bright yellow collar of his shirt sticking out over his bright red blazer, and a paid actress who pretends she's possessed (StarPlus style) by a 5000 year old ghost. The show then concludes with a really fun Gospel Bhangra rave. These theatrics are very tantalizing for your average Indian, its exiting. Christian missionaries have found the most effective formula to convert Indians, far more effective than the usual sneaky Christian/Islamic tactics, Love Jihad or Mullahs going crazy with "accept Allah or die"

  6. Sri Guru Hargobind sahib ji created Miri Nishaan sahib few inches smaller than Piri nishaan sahib (see example at sri harmandir Sahib). Are you going to ask the same question to guru sahib ji on this same logic. See the meaning behind rather than focusing too much on its face value. Nobody can teach you simple stuff. There is no shortcuts to understand some things in our dharam. Gotta work and put effort to climb the way up to understand some things that you may wish to get answer from google or someone else here.

  10. Bhaji, in the example that I gave , shastar (miri) has been placed at the same level as Guru Gobind Singh Ji (piri). I completely agree that all Granths are inseparable from our Panth, as indeed we all do. However, i think where we differ slightly is the "level" of respect. Bhaji, let me give you another example: we all have a Nitnem Gutka at home. There are Baani from both Aad and Dasam Guru Darbar contained within. Taking your logic in to account, would we then need 2 gutkas? One for the baanis from Aad, and one for the baanis of Dasam? Then we can do prakash of both Gutkas at different levels. But then what do we do about Rehraas sahib ji, which is a mixture of both Aad and Dasam Baani? How will you split that out (God forbid)? I'd like to think that most would agree what I'm suggesting in the above example(s) is madness. But then that's the road we end up on when we use your logic. Gurbani is Gurbani, whether from Aad, Dasam or Sarbloh Guru Darbar. Hope that clears things up ji??

  12. As a guy who is currently searching, whenever I begin a dialogue with a girl, I always ask this question, whether or not she wants to move out straight away. If she wants to stay within the family for a year or two, and then move out, that's cool. But if she says she wants to move out straight away, then I don't go forward with that. Now, what to do in the beginning is a long topic on it's own, but that's different, as you're already in a relationship looking to get married, so this will need to be handled differently. An uncle of mine once made the point (don't know how serious he was) that you can have 10 men living under the same roof with no problem, but not 2 women ?! I found it funny, though i hope he was joking. But in your case, you could start by asking what her apprehensions are? Assure her that she'll get her privacy etc. You made a good point about being in a better position financially. When I bought my own house, it was indeed a long and hard process. So you're probably going to need to stay within your family anyways for some time. Finally, remind her that, however she treats her parents and parent in laws, her kids and children in law will do exactly the same. If she had a son and some girl wanted him to move out straight away after marriage, would she like it? When I put this point in front of people, it usually stumps them, as it exposes their hypocrisy. In any case bro, talk it out, find out what her issues are, and help alleviate them. I'm sure you can reach a compromise. Good luck ??

  13. OK, using that same logic; Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj used to do shastar prakash at the same level (and sometimes higher) as where they would sit. Tell me brother, in all fairness and practicality, how many instances have you seen where there is a shastar prakash at the same level or even higher than Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji? I'm not saying never, but it's close enough. And going one step further, if we say the Khalsa is the Guru, will we ever see the Khalsa (panj pyare, sangat, or whatever form you deem the "Khalsa" to be) sit at the same level as Guru Sahib? You see where it starts to get tricky? If you believe the baani of Dasve Paatshah is any "less" than that of Aad Guru Darbar, then you open up a can of worms for the Panth and put yourself on a road with leads to people like Inder Singh Ghagga, Prof Darshan Singh, Neki etc. The point I'm eluding to (which I probably wasn't clear on) is that there is no difference between the three. Aad Guru Darbar is the Guru, period. And whilst no one is debating that, The Guru Panth (Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa) and all the traditional Sampardas of the Panth (Udasi, Nirmale, Seva Panthi etc.) give the baani of Guru Gobind Singh ji the same equal respect and veneration. The concepts of "questioning" this has only come up during late 1800s and early 1900s (thanks to the British).

  19. It shows that the hindu extremists real target is sikhism not khalistan. When Sikhs want their basic rights they are labelled as khalistani terrorists or anti-nationals by the hindu nationalist extremists. Not all hindu nationalists are this dumb and evil there are some who see Sikhs have suffered injustice and want to heal the hindu-sikh divide since 1947 but there are some far right extreme hindu nationalists who dont care about their own hindu religion or its teachings they are like islamic jihadi simpletons brainwashed by some evil mullah twisting their faith using violent quotes to suit the narrative and agenda.

  20. Yes, the Sikh is more likely to subtly re-adjust their own beliefs and accommodate the non-Sikh partner rather than insist on it being the other way round. It's kind of understandable when the relationship is Sikh Female and Non-Sikh Male (because of the supposed power dynamics of the Male-Female coupling regardless of background), but it doesn't explain why it's Sikhi that ends up compromised when the coupling is Sikh Male and Non-Sikh Female. Is it a cultural thing? An inferiority complex? A lack of loyalty and ambivalence for wanting to see Sikhi grow?

If it distracts us from Vaheguru it's already been effective. If it makes us act like Kalyugis back it's really been effective.

  24. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you should point out Sikhi has "grown" in Oceania because of the influx of Sikh immigrants. You're making it seem like hordes of Aussies, Kiwis, and Maori are rushing to the nearest Gurughar to take Amrit. I'm not hating, sis, just trying to add some context to the situation.

  28. I totally disagree. Dasam Granth is different from SGGS ji for sure, with a heavier focus on social matters, literature, psychology, language, politics, culture, Indic mythology etc. etc. Repurposing traditional narratives to suit contemporary Sikh needs has also been done. If Guru ji used narratives to explain things to Sikhs, it's on you to try and grasp the underlying themes and points of the narratives, not discard them because your own preconceptions and mental conditioning go against this.

  29. With Sikh sangat being the main forum for Sikhs in the UK and it being quite popular. There are many who frequent this forum but do not post but see all the posts and topics. Ie 1000's of Sikhs and non Sikhs who browse the forum. Yet with some threads on here I cant but help to notice the negative image that is being projected of Sikhs. We should try and keep the forum clean of abusive comments and post about other faiths as it makes us look bad. Ie things I have noticed that some members have engaged in. Abusive comments towards women Abusive comments against hindus abusive comments towars India Abusive comments towards christians Absive comments towards muslims. Abusive comments against non Sikh people in general Criticism of other faiths. Being anti British Castists comments . All this is against Sikhism yet so many engage in this kind of discussions which is giving Sikhism a negative view and making sikhs appear ignorant and hateful people. We need to be aware of who is viewing these forums. They could be people from all walks of life, races, religions ect feom all over the world. Lets start being more aware and respectfull of what we say. Peace

  30. NO SIKH GURU EVER WROTE ABOUT THEIR PAST LIFE. Gurbani tells us to focus all our efforts, in thoughts, words and actions on the present. Thinking about the past, what we did or didnt do is pointless for the past is not something we can go back in change. It is done and over with so why waste time discussing it or thinking about it. guxI Acwir nhI rMig rwqI Avgux bih bih rosI ] You have not adopted a virtuous lifestyle, and you are not attuned to the Lord's Love; you sit there, crying over your past misdeeds. Instead of repeatedly going over ones past (be it this life, or the previous life if one believes in that) we should focus on reforming and changing our present. In the same light as needlessly thinking about the past, there is no need to worry about the future either. Gurbani gives us a very simple and direct approach to life. It tells us that we cannot change the past nor control the future. So why waste time thinking or debating on either. Instead focus all ur energy on the present. You do good deeds today then tomorow those will become part of ur past and hence slowly over time u will build up a 'new' past consisting solely of good deeds. Similarly, the future is tomorow, that which we have not yet experienced or done. But if the only thing we ever think of is love and only actions we every carry out are good deeds then automatically this will be our future. For if all our energy is focused on good deeds at all times then how can our future ever go wrong (i.e. doing misdeeds). Firstly, anything outside of Sri Guru Granth Sahib can never be regarded as our guru -- i.e. it can never replace or even be considered on the same level as gurbani. Secondly, if there are compoisitions outside of guru granth sahib which one feels may be of value to a Sikh then we have a simple rule given to us by our own guru -- analyze those compositions based on the teachings contained in gurbani and if they agree with gurbani then one can accept them and gain use from them but if they are not in accordance with gurmat and in fact opposed to gurmat then we must discard them. Thus using gurbani as a refernce guide we will quickly see that most compositions consisting of stories or 'bani' outside sri guru granth sahib which are commonly taught and passed on do not agree with the fundamental tenets of sikh philosophy. And if they do not agree with what the guru has himself written in guru granth sahib and told us to accept as the supreme truth then how can we even dare to call these other compositions the writings of the guru?? The guru is not a hypocrit who would say one thing one place and then contradict himself later and say or do something totally different elsewhere. It is only our own weak understanding of gurbani which has led us to falsely attribute such contradictory statements as belonging to the guru. We must move away from this dangerous mindset and focus ourselves to reading, and udnerstanding gurbani as given to us in guru granth sahib.

  31. Well thas the thing, our guru is not jus some regular individual whom we cal go n read stories about and assume to be true without any worry of dire consequence. To a sikh his guru is his life. Without his guru he is nothing. That is why it is of the utmost importance that we make sure that any story associated with the guru is actually true rather then just accepting it as fact. The problem in most cases is that everone has a lot of respect for the guru and whenever they hear the mention of the gurus name somewhere they automatically assume it to be true cuz they do not wanna challenge or question anythin to do with the guru. But if someone makes up false stories of our gurus is not the duty of a sikh to stand up and challenge that person to preserve the sanctity and honour of sikhi? Knowing things for educational or general purposes is good but when it comes to our Gurus we should be extra careful about wether the information is true or not. With regards to the story about hemkunt sahib, this also has is a fabricated story which because of great push behind it and being taught to everyone on a regular basis, has become wrongly accepted as being true. This story is mentioned in Bachittar Natak, which is told to the masses as being the "autobiography" of guru gobind singh. If we analyze this a bit closer some very strong questions come to mind. 1. No previous guru ever talked about their "previous life" so why would Guru Gobind Singh how was filled with so much humility that he did not even include his own writings itno Guru Granth Sahib deviate from this and feel the need to tell the world about his previous life? 2. Even if we accept that he did do bhagti at hemkunt in previous life he was not our guru at that point. He became guru only after he attained the gyaan which came from Guru Nanaks bani. Bhai Lehna before he met guru nanak and realized the truth worshiped many hindu idols so shud we build gurdwaras there as well? On the one hand the guru is telling us not to worship any devi/devtay or idols yet on the other hand we are celebrating the story of someone who did pooja of a devti and building gurdwaras in the name of guru nanak at those places. How hypocritical is that!! 3. If hemkunt is of such importance in sikh history, would not the bright, learned and spiritual sikhs of previous generations, including those of the time of guru gobind singh have mentioned this place and made some sort of shrine to commemorate this? If guru wrote this autobiography then surely his closest disciples would have read this as they loved the guru as their own father and were willing to die for him. Their love is what resulted in builiding of so many takhats all with links to guru gobind singh so would they have not done the same thing after having read this "autobiography" of him at that time? Yet how ironic is it that this "discovery" of hemkunt place has taken place only in the last 50 years ever since the brahmin took over control of india.... hmmmmmmmmm....mere coincidence?? 4.Guru Gobind Singh ji's supposed "life" "BEFORE' he even became BORN at Patna sahib is NONE OF OUR CONCERN. Didnt any of the other gurus have previous lives too? Didnt Guru Nanak have a previous life where he did meditation? So why only single out Guru Gobind Singh ji. This singling out is part of a deep rooted attempt to separate Guru Gobind from GUru Nanak. Even today many people say i am a sikh of guru nanak only, that i do not believe in guru gobind singh or amrit/khalsa. As long as i believe in Guru Nanak that is all i need. How has this thinking crept into sikhi? We as Sikhs must realize the ONE-NESS of Guru Nanak to GUru GObind Singh to Guru Granth Sahib. Ther is one jot in all of them. Any one who tries to separate them is NOT a SIKH of any GURU..becasue he breaks the fundamental rule of ONE JYOT.

  32. You are exactly right bro. Nobody wants to admit this cuz so many people have profited (socially and financially) by misleading the masses bout the story of bachitar natak and by admiting that it goes against gurmat (which it does) they would have to both admit they are lying n mistleading others n plus give up their lucrative trade of deceit. The jot u talk of, of the guru, first entereed guru nanak, passed thru ten mortal frames upto guru gobind singh and now rests within guru granth and khalsa panth. No guru ever wrote about any of their previous incarnations so y the last wud suddenly feel the need to do such seem absurd. The storytellin of bachitar natak goes completly aginst the very fundamentals of SIkhi. To those who will surely be upset by this, i am not saying that all of the writings in dasam granth are without value. There may indeed be some of it which may have been written by guru gobind singh, but the vast majority is not in accordance with gurbani so could not be the writing of any guru. ANyways, without gettin off track ur right, the story if taken as written wud be about that one jot, same jot which passed thru all gurus, so wud be equally applicavble to all of them. DId the rest of the gurus not remember this past "incarnation" of their jot? Did they forget to preach this story to the sikhs? Was there a reason they didnt talk bout previos lifes? Are previous lives even relevent within Sikhi? Why over 250 years did only the very last guru speak of it? These are all questions which need to be carefully thought out by every sikh before blindlyjumping and accepting every single word in dasam granth as being true and written by guru gobind singh. The truth is someone long ago, wrote down the name guru gobiidn singh on the outside of a book with various writings, (some of the gurus, and some not) and people naturally having respect for the guru sahib automatically persumed everthing in that book to be written by that guru. ANd anyone who dares challenges that is taken as being ant-panthic and against the guru, when the truth of the matter is all they want to do is make sure no anti-gurmat writing is accidently attributed to be the gurus jus because of unee shurdha.

  33. Everything in that article is true. Unfortunately, the majority of the general public is not familiar with those facts and have gone on blindly accepting everything in the dasam granth as bieng written by guru gobind singh. And cuz of this unee shurdha (blind faith) any attempt by anyone to conduct a logical analysis of dasam granth is taken as an act of disrespect. Hopefuly after reading this article many people will learn the truth (thou i am certain those who wish to live by blind faith will continue to ignore all the questions raised in the article).
