Is Effective Parchaar Happening Today To Promote S

Do you think the parchaar that is happening today by various parchaarics is effective or not in promoting Sikhism?

What modifications should or could be made to the methods of attracting the youth towards Sikhi?

What is your local community (for example: gurdwara and its managing commitee) doing to address the issue of youth who are getting into drugs and other anti-gurmat activities/behaviors?

What can Sikh student associations do to tackle this problem?

Is it ok for a person to make gurmat parchaar their only means of income or should they be doing another job/career and do gurmat parchaar on the side? (If the question is unclear I mean should a person do a job 5 days a week 9 to 5, and do parchaar in the evenings and weekends as a hobby type of thing?)

------------------

If you have any other relevant comments please do post! I'm curious to see what the sangat here thinks about the overall picture of sikhi today...if gurmat parchaar is happening for the right reasons or is just a source of income and maya for the parchaarics who can't or don't do another job.

forget about the parchar for the moment please. first we should sort our own lives then worry about the parchar. Let the people handle the parchar who already sorted their own lives out.

lot of people here are sant bhindranwale supporters and like to follow his foot steps, outspoken nature. very good to know that. heart gets melted to know that however they know very little about his spiritual life.

he spent most of his life prior to when he started dharam yudh to learn vidya from his teachers of gurbani- sant baba gurbachan singh ji and sant baba kartar singh ji and did seva of them. he started at very young age. he did 108 japji sahib a day, he was very proficient in gurbani both historical and spiritual views of each verse in sri guru granth sahib ji, in fact the famous gyani thakur singh ji vidvan patiala wale and sant baba jarnail singh ji bhindranwale were both students of sant kartar singh ji bhindranwale where they given vidya from soraj parkash granth, puratan steeks of jupji, guru granth sahib ji, sri dasam bani, naveeen parkash granth by gian singh nirmala.

Being sorma or a parcharak is not peace of cake. you need to practise in your daily life before you preach anything otherwise you are nothing but a HYPOCRITE.

Let's rise from this and stop being so called hypocrites parcharaks first sort ourselves and then sort the world.

I answered 'not sure' cuz when i see amazing gursikhs here on these forums I feel that sikhi is going in right directions. But also, I see lot of hatred also here on these forums for different jathebandis/jathas.......then i feel....why are we fighting?..why we are not united or working towards unity

So its a mixed feeling. I think I spend most of my time here these days. I think I m addicted to sikhsangat.

Anyways...may waheguru make us strong so that we can set examples like puratan singhs...who gave their life but not their faith.

Dhan guru nanak dev ji who showed this beautiful sikhi path to everybdy here.

I think parchaar needs to be done on real big scale with alot of pyar, by the youth to the youth. WE LACK ROLE-MODELS in the Sikh community. No offence i was very inspired by a few older Singhs who are very into thier Sikhi and never used to used do all sorts of wrong stuff (drugs etc etc) n wen they tell u about der personal transformations to being gursikhs its amazing, and the physically these guys set a good example they are very healthy etc (some of them hench :) ) compared to some singhs like patis who got really big beer bellys and walk around talking the talk.

cool...its nice to see ppl with different views on how well sikhi is today. Personally i think its going downhill when i look outside. IF a good parchaaric arises to lead us then he either dies young or critics will slander and trash someone cuz they can't take it.

anyway..come one ppl. i know theres more than 11 ppl on this forum.. VOTE! :)

I think the main thing is to improve upon your own sikhi so that everyone you come across is inspired by you…without the need for actually saying anything.

In my view this is the most effective way of parchar, as people will be inspired by your actions rather than mere talk. Your life and sikhi will become an example to individuals you come across.

yes we should focus on fixing ourselves, but at the same time there are many people out there (mainly youth) that NEED that parchaar done for them as well... i would say there is some parchaar that is effective, but lookin at how things are today, a lot of people get turned away from sikhi.... i say that because in todays society when sum1 is lookin into sikhi, they see all this political stuff tha's interfering with parchaar today... There are some positive lights... but it's not consistent... Ranjit Singh (like it or not) is one'a the few EFFECTIVE parchaaraks we have today.... even people like Bhai Parminder Singh were AMAZING parchaaraks... we need more people like this... i think some'a the youth camps we're having nowadayz are helping a lot... i know the one's in Toronto are really inspiring the youth...

It is more jatha parchaar than Sikhi or Panth parchaar.

i somewhat agree with that post... nowadayz we look around and see people say 'i'm taksali... i'm akj... i'm nanaksari etc...'... tha's not what we wanna hear... we wanna hear i'm SIKH... thats the most inspiration u can give someone... we shouldn't be focused on each individual jattha, rather we should focus on SIKHI as a whole..

so basically... to summarize... there's some effective parchaar being done, but it has to be more consistent... and it should focus on SIKHI as a whole rather then each jattha individually...

bhul chuk maaf

jathas are good to the extent that a lot of people are inspired into sikhi through these jathas but the different rules, ie.anti sant, or pro Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's saroop etc all these diffferences are causing serious problems.

But its not just the youth that needs effective prachaar, its their parents aswell, a olt of the youth maybe more into sikhi than their parents, so its really everyone that needs to be inspired with effective prachaar.

And whether ppl like it or not, the sangat is in their thousands or hundreds of thousands when there are 'babas' doing kirtan. Thats when the Gurdwaras are full.

We can say Gurdwaras have older ppl there but a lot of them are not there for religious reasons but cos they socialising there with auntiji meetings.

Everone needs to be inspired, ofcourse i think all the jathas are trying to do their bit but when 2 jathas got a conflict of opinon then parchaar isnt all that effective anymore, its having a worse effect on sikhi dividing.

one older person who once tried to get into sikhi stopped because once he tried to get into it he saw what sikhi has become.

we cant agree on a lot and he was new to it so didn't know which way to go, ie.are photos allowed, is there such thing as a sant, is SGPC lost, but isnt it what tells us what to do?

well all these Qs and all these ppl fighting and not agreeming meant he kept away from sikhi.

And to answer the topic more directly, parchaar is needed alot to inspire ppl to get into sikhi, they listen to one parchaarck and his view different to the one they listened to yeserday so they leave confused and not so inspired.

ALso, we got some great parchaaraks but when they fighting among themselves or the sangat is criticising them, then they are forced to stop.

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
