Flaws Within Sikhi

Recommended Posts

Vaheguroo ji ka khalsa Vaheguroo ji ki fateh!

Sangat ji, I attended a sikh society discussion a few days ago and was very shocked to hear that most students really question guruji so much, and sikhi in general, so i proposed that next week I would lead a discussion on the possible flaws in sikhi, so they can get whatever they have a problem with off their chest.

Basically, could the sangat give me an idea of what kind of flaws students may come up with or actual flaws that some other sangat think that there actually are within sikhi. i can't think of anything they would have a problem with, but i know they'l come up with loads.

thanks

-Sikhism, is just the same as Hindhuism.

-Guru Granth Sahib Ji does not have any details of how the universe was created, ie Adam and Eve story

-Where does it say hair is so imprtant

-There are contradictions about whether or not meat is ok or not.

These are the usual ones people question me about it, but after they are told the truth they are left suprised and shocked about how great Sikhi really is.

Heres some stupid one's thrown bout where i live:

- If we can't cut our hair, then how come Guruji allows us to cut our nails?

- If Waheguru didnt want us to drink alcohol, meat, take drugs etc WHY did he crreate them in the world?

- If we are ALL supposed to be one, then why does Sikhism oppose marrying someone from another faith?

thats only a couple - people act stupid janke!! :)

Good! It's good that they are questioning things it gives you an opportunity to show them the goodness of Sikhi! And shows that they are true Sikhs ie: students, disciples.

-Sikhism, is just the same as Hindhuism.
Emphasise that Hinduism is a religion we respect but that the panth is different in many ways.
-Guru Granth Sahib Ji does not have any details of how the universe was created, ie Adam and Eve story

Well, this is a Christian/Islamic need. The philosophy of Sikhi so deep and complex. Teach them about it.

-Where does it say hair is so imprtant
Simple to explain to them why --- and why they can still be a Sikh as they walk the path towards kesh gradually.
-There are contradictions about whether or not meat is ok or not.

Contradictions? Sikhi is big enough to contain different practices on certain issues. This is a STRENGTH of Sikhi, not a weakness.

This is a very very good thread! Here are some that a thrown at me...that to be honest some have me baffled!

- Why did Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Guru Hargobind Ji have Numerous wives?

- If the Guru's didnt beleive in Caste system, how come they always married within thier own Caste?

- Where does it say there are ment to be 10 Guru's?

- Where are the 5 Kakkars outlined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji?

- How Much of the Rehit is from the teachings of the Guru's?

I'll add more...lemme ask em! :)

1) Guru Gobind Singh Ji's 2 wives Mata jeet kaur (mata sundari ji) and mata Sahib Kaur ji.

Mata sahib kaur ji stayed avirgin all her life and is considered the mother of the Khalsa

2) where does it say that?

3) where does it say otherwise? plus there was never more than one Guru at one time holding the status of Guru.

4) they are not but they are mentioned in Guru Gobind Singh jis 52 hukams.

5) all of it.

2) its well known that the Guru's married within thier own Caste!...Kathri's I think!

Anywhere on the net I can read the 52 Hukams? and use em as evidence?

Can i just say...the Guru ji is a supreme being and that Sikhi is perfect, it has no flaws, its the PEOPLE who have flaws.

If they need to find the information they want then Gurbani is there to help them, READ IT!

The history, yes people are going tarnish the truth as usual, in this case I say just let them be.

Gurmat is perfect and complete and I openly challenge anyone to find a single "flaw" with it. There could be misunderstanding or there could be something not practiced correctly but in terms of principles, Sikhi is flawless.

For the answers to many questions go to http://forums.waheguroo.com/QandA-f60.html. The top section has answers to common questions where as the "Muslim Answers" have answers to others. If extremist Muslims out to tear Sikhi apart couldn't find anything wrong, I doubt anyone else can.

Veerji said spot on. There is no flaw in sikhi, its people who have lost trust in guru and begin questioning. How many of us have read entire guru granth sahibji? how can we know what is mentioned in it and what not. And how will we know if the answers to our questions are correct. We tend to trust another person rather than reading bani oursevles and making an effort to understand it.

If someone does have genuine questions, their doubts should be cleared, but noone can inculcate faith in someone except for guruji himself. READING BANI AND DOING ARDAS IS ONLY SOLUTION.

    • We should be supporting Sikh businesses where we can. ⠀ ⠀ As Sikhs- we should be uplifting each other as we would in Khalsa Raj. Support our brothers and sisters in their ventures. ⠀ ⠀ We have so many Sikh entrepreneurs that we shouldn’t really need to look outside of the Sikh community- from Creatives to Real Estate. ⠀ ⠀

Amul has already launched an Immunity Booster beverages range – Amul Haldi Doodh, Amul Tulsi Doodh, Amul Ginger Doodh and Amul Ashwagandha Doodh – and now the company has extended the Immunity Booster portfolio with its introduction to the ice cream category. Amul’s new Haldi Ice Cream is made with the goodness of Haldi, Pepper and Honey and the richness of dry fruits including dates, almonds and cashews. Amul describes its new offering as a mix of health and great taste. Turmeric is known for its antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties. For centuries, traditional systems like Ayurveda have used haldi, both fresh and as a dried spice powder, to promote health. Turmeric is referred to as a super food worldwide for its various health-promoting properties. In addition, pepper is another spice that is known to Indian households to treat respiratory diseases and good for digestion. Honey is also rich in antioxidants and can help dry throats. Accompanying Amul’s new offering is a nationwide TV and print media campaign promoting the products’ health benefits. Amul’s new ice cream is available at a price of Rs 40 (125ml tamper proof cup). The company will soon be adding Immuno Chakra Ice Cream (in a stick of 60ml) and Star Anise Doodh (in a 200ml can) to the range. Haldi Ice Cream is being packed at state of the art manufacturing plants in North and West India, with a production capacity of 5,00,000 packs per day. https://www.dairyindustries.com/news/34965/amul-launches-new-haldi-ice-cream/#:~:text=Amul's new Haldi Ice Cream, antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties.
    • It looks like this word has been used in Faridkot teeka Any Looks like it means parvaan if I have understood correctly.   However there is also the following where Faridkot has used the same but here it seems it's been used to mean "other" or "second" if I have understood correctly, unless it means greater or foremost? Faridkot teeka has used this word quite a bit, I think it has been used slightly differently at different times. If you put the following search in Google, you can find all the instances the word has been used in Faridkot teeka: "ਸਦਰਸ site:srigranth.org" (without the speech marks)
    • I want to start a thread just about 84 and the movement afterwards so anyone can come here and learn about it more . To kick it off here is a speech of jaswant singh khalra I came across a few days ago. You can feel in his speech that genuine pain in his heart, from having seen with his own eyes the genocide of our own people.    Here is a channel I came across setup as a tribute to 84 for maybe more rare video footage I'd guess not everyone on here has seen.  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCmZvPBEoVmtvLrv07TNYtw/videos   also here is an interview of shaheed bhai amrik singh's son bhai tarlochan singh ji,  I will try to keep this tread updated and going, and ask sangat to contribute as well.
    • why do you think they were forced into marriage straight away , because pakistan and islam doesn't recognise marital rape as a concept let alone legal crime . Which media you referring to the pakistani media ? of course they'll side with guy because he would be jailed for kidnap.. Pak government has only helped slightly in this case because of Nankana Sahib project else ALL other paents have been refused recourse to place a FIR even when the girls are stolen before and after this. Official statements have nothing to do with reality in that country , just like India. she is a teenager who is not brought up in a liberal way but fairly conservatively even compared to apnay. she did not petition any court , to return to her husband .
