With reference to the article below published in last weeks Eastern Eye. The article is typical Asian media sensationalisation. The article was not balanced and has levelled criticism at Sikhs and Muslims, where the two groups, should have been given an opportunity to comment on the allegations made against them. It would be interesting to know of the examples of supposed Sikh attacks on the Hindus in the UK and what the basis of the assumption is!

Quote from article.

'Heena Patel, spokeswoman for Shakti Marg, said: “The police do nothing to help us with cases where Sikh extremists attack Hindus or when Islamic groups try to forcibly convert some students. As long as Hindus don’t feel protected, they will have to protect themselves'

Hindu body to focus on hate crimes, 16.2.07

Hindus are to arrange their own security body to get their fears about racism on to the race agenda.

The Hindu Forum of Britain will stage its first-ever security conference in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police, in London, on Wednesday (21). The aim is to push the police into doing more to tackle race hate crime against Hindus living in Britain.

Religious race hate crimes against Asians rose six-fold in the aftermath of the July 7 bombings in 2005. One of the key issues to be discussed would be the need to record separate figures for attacks on Hindus to determine the extent of the problem within the community.

The conference is a further sign that some Hindus think that Muslim needs are addressed in priority over theirs, even though both groups are suffering a rise in racism since the bombings. The launch later this year of the Muslim Defence League, which celebrity supporters promise will be more aggressive in its lobbying of politicians and the police, will add to this feeling.

Sanjay Mistry, a spokesman for HFB, said: “The meeting at the London School of Economics is aimed at addressing the very little information on Hindus out there, which has resulted in hate crimes against them. A lot of issues of terrorism and race hate affect the youth and we felt it was important to encourage greater interaction between them and the police.” Some of the other issues to be discussed will include radicalisation and personal security.

Speakers at the conference include Sir Ian Blair, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Tony McNulty, Home Office minister for security and policing, and representatives of faith communities and the criminal justice system.

The conference will lead to the setting up of a number of working groups to examine and offer solutions to the issues identified during the event. The conference has irritated other Hindu groups such as Hindu Human Rights (HHR) and Shakti Marg.

Arjun Malik, HHR spokesman, said: “We are actually very surprised that we have not been invited or even been told about this conference. It is to discuss issues affecting Hindu youths and we actually do a lot of work in that field. We are a bit more experienced when it comes to dealing with student issues.

“A lot of youths already do not trust the police. They feel like the government is not engaging them enough, compared to other religious groups. Hindus seem to be mainly represented by middle class businessmen and people of our parents’s generation. Younger Hindus are feeling more isolated. If they continue to feel threatened and unprotected they may be forced to turn towards extremism.”

Heena Patel, spokeswoman for Shakti Marg, said: “The police do nothing to help us with cases where Sikh extremists attack Hindus or when Islamic groups try to forcibly convert some students. As long as Hindus don’t feel protected, they will have to protect themselves.”

What ''common enemy''? Sikhs have no '' common enemy'' If you're referring to muslims, I would trust a muslim over a hindu ANYDAY

The most comic statement in the whole report was

"Younger Hindus are feeling more isolated. If they continue to feel threatened and unprotected they may be forced to turn towards extremism.”

They couldn't turn towards extremism when their faith was in danger, they were being forcibly converted, their girls were being raped or taken away by mughals. I doubt they will do anything now. Or maybe extremism in hindu terminology means organising a peaceful march or sitting on a hunger strike. No AHIMSA (violence)

I can't understand why sikhs sometimes make such weak statements like siding with hindus and sometimes with muslims or talking things like we have common enemy e.t.c. We are distinct and we will always be. We have our troubles with some communities and we'll sort them out on our own, we don't need any allies. To tackle hindus we don't need to side with muslims and vice versa. For waheguru's sake stop making such statements which are nothing less than insults on sikhi and project us as weak or impotent.

And we will never be able to ascertain who our biggest enemy is : hindus* or muslims*? If muslims are bad for us that doesn't make hindus good automatically. Both have inflicted tremendous damage and both strike in their own ways. If musims fight head on hindus do the back stabbing. Look how they cleverly mentioned our name in the conference to gain maximum sympathy whereas sikhs have suffered and are sill suffering tremendous race hate crime.

*by hindus or muslims i don't mean by all the religion but the bad ones or who are genuine enemies.

anger and hate are useless emotions..

I would much rather we work to create stronger ties with hindus & muslms and invite them into the faith than cause further divisions by constently fighting each other.

However if you want to challenge those who malign Sikhs and faith do it with intelligence and media. Learn from those who you percieve as enemies and use the very same tactics against them.

For example this spokeswoman from hindu group went to the press (eastern eye) to malign sikhs as extremists who attack hindus, in that article . Now I would like to see the evidence of any Sikh who has attacked a hindu in the UK because of idelogical differences.

What we can do is go to the same media and challenge this woman by giving our side of the story and give them facts of how in India new delhi 1984 5,000 Sikhs were murdered in the most brutal way possible by brahmin-congress extremists terrorists. This would not only serve as a methaphoric slap in the face of that hindu spokeswoman but also give the public a chance to see theres another side to the story. I think the incident she was refering to was the Hindu Ek Nivas temple were the SGGS ji was being worshipped alongside idols. This was contray to Sikh teachings and therefore lead to that hindu temple causing racial/religious friction/incitement and hurting the religious sentiments of our community.

    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
