We Need To Raise Awareness Like This

Recommended Posts

The exaggeration and claims of:

"Fact - hundreds of Sikh girls are targeted and converted every year

Fact - in some cases, Muslims are paid 10 thousand pounds to convert a Sikh girl, while its 7 thousand for a hindu

Fact - even black magic is used 2 convert sikh girls"

Just discredit what that profile is trying to achieve. If people want to create awareness do it with facts not make supertitious wild claims that make it laughable.

yes i agree with Dr C, is it something that happens the girls/boys childhood that makes them hate/disrespect sikhi.............we cant always blame the parents sometimes they are there for us no matter what and sometimes we forget to thank them BUT anyway need to discuss how to make young sikhs talk more openly if they need help.

The muslim black magic perception only pushes people closer to doubt and delvers of these practices.

We are close to a family who went through a period of suspecting their daughter was being brainwashed by Muslims for the reason that she had well paid job and wanted to invest in a flat to rent out. Through interference from other relatives and family friends, they came to a conclusion that she was seeing a Muslim boy and was going to move out and live with him in order to convert to Islam. The situation went so far that they were advised to enlist the help of some local “babas” who were to break the “spell” of muslim black magic that had been allegedly put on her. This lead to an unpleasant situation where the daughter ended up receiving a beating from her brother and mother and the Police became involved. Anyway, in the end the daughter did move out and now lives with her Uncles family. She is now engaged to family friend of ours and will be getting married next summer. There was never a Muslim boy or any black magic, just an over paranoia within her mother and brothers who took onboard ill-advice from misguided people. The whole misconception ended up in tearing the family apart

its lack of education and lack of 'practicing'.... starts from the roots; their parents... the vast majority of parents dun have much idea bout wha sikhi preaches and they dun practice themselves... they're role models for their kids, who in turn have no interest in sikhi n are more absorbed into 'punjabi culture'... this makes them mentally and spiritually weak... which makes them easy 'targets'...

I agree we need to make people aware of what’s going on around us. Issues affecting our Community. Most parents dont have aclue, long as it isnt effecting their family they are not concerned, what a poor attitude to have!.

I have recently been in dialog with members of Leicester sangat a lot of the youth believe we need to take active steps to bring Sikh youths together as one. So we can educate build unity and help our community where able.

We are looking to establish the Sikh Unity Network in the next few months. I will post details of meetings, akand paths and website links closer to the time.

Would like to hear your point of view/ideas.

Use force where necessary to clamp down on Sikh conversions/bullying?

It is time we stood up and took action; we can worry all day long how violent actions may have a negative impact on the Sikh sangat, but its time we make people aware we can hold our own. Stand shoulder to shoulder, not just fight between us.

Obviously we cant please everyone, people may think we are looking to follow the foot steps of sher-e Punjab and other groups in the past. My reply is we are looking to unity and educate the youth. Unity is the key! Education will help develop an interest in sikhi and help develop our community.

Initially this will only be Leicester based. We have gathered a lot of interest. But need to iron out a few issues before we can proceed.

Hope we establish more supporters then critics, either way it’s going to happen.
