Sat Sri Akal,

Just based on current analysis i want to gain views of sangat. What do they think of future

1) According to current trend, Children leaving sikhi for modern culture. Inter religious marriages are diluting our ideology. More migration in Punjab and after some years Sikhi replaced by Punjabiyat and further reforming of Gurudwara rules to allow clean shaven to take amrit etc.................

Govt acts of sharing land and houses with migrants and destroying of river and water systems.

2)Revival of some sort of sikh political or non violence movement as started by Giyani Ditt Singh (Singh Sabha Lehar). trying to revive our religion peacefully and supporting India.

3)Revival of armed struggle to increase in human right violation in India in coming years.

4)Any other view.

I think there is going to be the final struggle in Punjab in coming years, which will be decisive either we will loose everything (to migrant labourers etc) or we will have decisive win

No one can run from it. Some thing is going to happen. either you fight or vanish

What are sangats views.

Children are not leaving sikhi for modern culture. They never got the chance to be in Sikhi at first point. Its the parents who never taught anything about sikhi to these kids. Punjabi culture is best and i love it but its upto people to understand the importance of keeping religion and culture apart from each other. Govt' is not good for anyone in Punjab.

2)Revival of some sort of sikh political or non violence movement as started by Giyani Ditt Singh (Singh Sabha Lehar). trying to revive our religion peacefully and supporting India.

You are right !!!! Its the Brain fight. One gotta put awareness in ppls mind for their benefits and Giani Ditt Singh did that with his newspaper - Khalsa Akhbar. Also, I don't think India existed before 1947 so basically there is no point in saying that Bhagat Singh and other sikh personalities fought for India as it was non-existent state. They fought for basic human right and it was British rule who joined all those independent states and declared it as United India after 1947.

3)Revival of armed struggle to increase in human right violation in India in coming years.

No matter what condition we are in.. Our guru sahib jee always encouraged Sikhs to be good in Health (Sports, fitness) and always protect yourself and others with shaasters.

I think there is going to be the final struggle in Punjab in coming years, which will be decisive either we will loose everything (to migrant labourers etc) or we will have decisive win

Bhaiya labor party will take over Punjab and its happening in front of our eyes for the past 15 years. They can buy land, vote and do everything that normal sikh can but Sikh can't do anything (buy land etc) in other neighboring states.

Oh that's right, nothing! You want your religion to live on, then get rid of your leaders ASAP.

Please don't mind me saying this... when i read such type of statements.. i feel like getting advice from non-sikh person.

the future of sikhi is very bright.

look at western nations. kids who never even saw punjab, are so much into sikhi, keep rehit, wear baana, and try to live according to gurmat. my brother in law came from punjab a year ago and lived in toronto for a year on a student visa. he went back to punjab and thsi is what he told his family:

"in toronto there is more sikhi than in punjab. kids who were born in canada have long dharaas and wear dumallas. the guru ghars openly display photos of 1984 shaheeds without any fear. punjab is is nothing compared to toronto in term sof sikhi parchaar and presence."

my personal opinion is that sikhi is always strong when people respect their shaheeds. in punjab, the only shaheed who is forced down people's throats in punjab is bhagat singh, and he too is murky in terms of sikhi. some claim his socialist beliefs, he is commonly shown clean shaven. punjab is shown no sikh heroes. the heroes are all shown as clean shaven people. young people are very impressionable. they yearn for role models. punjab doesn't give them sikh role models. people with kesh are either portayed as khadkus or are mocked as "gianis."

it's all a mindset. people in India have been brainwashed by indian media and propaganda by shwing the sikh image as something of a clown image, and sikhi saroop as some old relic, to teh point where bollywood movies use peopel with fake beards to portray sikh as if no people in india have real beards to play sikh characters or as if though sikhs are like the dinosaurs and bollywood has to recreate a sikh by using props and fake beards and turbans.

i know many people are going to burn at this, but wherever the parchaar of khalistan is strong, sikhi is strong there.

look at the punjab in the 1980s and early 1990s, when the sikh struggle was at its peak. sikhi was very very strong. the khalistani parchaar is strongest in the west, and that is where you find the strongest sikhi parchaar. because that is what khalistan is, a movement to strengthen and preserve the distinct sikh identity.

india has muddled the sikh identity so much that being clean shaven still makes one sikh. being hindu, one is also a sikh.

so sikhi's future is very very bright. it doesn't seem that way in punjab because thousands of people who fought for teh sikh quam were butchered there by our own people. a place where sikh freedom fighters were tortured and murdered and shown as terrorists was not going to see a golden age of sikhi after all that.

you can't kill hundreds of thousands of sikh nationalists in punjab and expect sikhi to flourish there. that is just stupidity. in india you can only be a indian nationalist, not a sikh nationalist. and that is contrary to teh sikh ethos because the sikhs are a nation, with a national flag(nishaan sahib), national script(gurmukhi), national language(punjabi), national army(khalsa panth), and national government(panj pyaare and akaal takhat sahib), etc etc.

peace.

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ke Faeth

Excellent topic , many Thanks for starting such a topic, there should be great input here, here is my 2 cents.

In the UK over the past 20 years I 've seen youth at a young age that actually practised sikhe, for e.g. kirtan at a young age. Out of this youth I can put my hand on my heart and say that 90% survived all the panjabiat cultural issues that they faced later on and on top of that the western inferority issues , and they have become stronger sikhs , much more learned individuals, heck I even learn from some of them. They are beautiful, Guru Jee's kala is ever present in them and shines beautifully in them. Now I hope no one here starts bashing this and mention they were brainshwashed and forced at an early age. This kind of youth faced all the problems and had millions of questions to answer and they searched for them and as they grew older they found them. We are all learners at every stage of life. Secondly I hope no one bashes here oh it's all blind faith.!!

My conclusion in order for Sikhe to survive practice and implement our Guru Jees teachings for one self and his/her kids as much as possible. Take time out every week with kids they and you are the most valueable thing in life. " Heeree jasaa janam haaaa"

The forces of the dark, which exist in panjabyat, western culture and all cutlures have always been there since long ago. However they have changed and are much stronger and the peer pressure on Sikh kids even greater day by day. We have Gurdwaras of £15million pounds being built and not even 1% of that spent on educational and psycholigical needs, this is in my home town. Other towns may be better off.

I wonder if anyone is doing a research project of all the Gurdwara in the UK on how many have taken amrit over the last 2 decades and those families and their kids how many swayed from Sikhe and principles and the Gurdwara too??

Just because you are a small community, does not necessarily mean you become extinct (look at the Jews and how long they have lasted amid adversity). At present, some people, regardless of the power of the media/govt policies etc, still continue following sikhi/ even take it up.

What I think is crucial is - who are these few people that continue with their sikhi or decide to take it up in the face of such a climate?

What is their genetic make up- what are their traits?

My hope is:

. . . that the changing environment may cause a sorting out of the "men from the boys" or sort out the "real lions from the rest". This would leave a small but "high pedigree" panth, which should on the whole produce kids similiar to themselves, leading to great natural strength in the panth.
