The Army And Me

Guru Gobind Singh is my general, and he will never tell the panth to fight an unjust war. Britian invaded iraq and made it a worse country then before. It was all for oil, why work for a corrupt ungodly army for greed etc. They are causing pain and suffering to the iraqi people, ask all the mums who have lost little kids and little kids who have no limbs etc due to the british bombing their land. Life is hell in iraq all due to US and UK. if they wanted sadam they could have got him in many other ways.

I know many Sikhs are a bit pindu brained but they need to realise that in the end, there is a high probability that joining such forces will result in them basically fighting for a white supremiscist agenda. By this I mean the domination of both politics as well as world resources by white people. They will become the "nocker" of the goray. Plus such actions flies in face of sacrifices by Punjabi/Sikh shaheeds such as Udham Singh, Bhagat Singh, Sham Singh Attari and Kartar Singh Sarabha.

hey all its been a while now that i been thinking and wanting to join the british army but i aint for sure if its the right thing to do,

i always been interested but i havent had the actual courage to take the next step and join. also being a sikh it is very important to

follow the guru's path as much as possible although i know i can do a lot better to serve my guru. the reason why i am not 100% sure on joining the army is because of the war in iraq, many people i have spoken to say that the war is unjust and that many innoent people have died which is a huge paap in sikhi, but on the other hand the army are there to create a better enviroment for the iraqi people so that in the future they can live in peace. my mom says she will be proud of me if i join but 1 of my mates says

that it will be hard to begin a family life once i get married and have kids

i watch many inspiratinal videos of sikh soliders in the world wars and i have admired their courage and at the samet ime kept their identiy while fightin on the front line, i just want the sangat views on what i should do as 1 day hopefully in the future i will want to take amrit

Don't do it. No need to join the white man's army and doing their dirty work for them.

Using your logic, perhaps you need to be reminded that the "brown man's" army/police force e.g. in India freely molests your sisters.

Bear in mind that there are 'white' Sikhs on this forum. Even if there weren't it doesn't matter, there was no need for a statement like that. There's more I could say but I hope you know it in your heart anyway.

To the original poster, try out the training as a taster if you really want to, but my advice is be a free man. Follow your Guru, become a Khalsa and fight for the things worth fighting for.

Edit: Nobody has yet asked how can we be free and follow our Guru at the same time : )

I dont think the white man is meant literally. The white man is more of a metaphor for what is considered normal and okay, where everything outside this identity is othered and measured in relative to it as a norm. No matter how you look at a it a white heterosexual male still dominates every sphere.

The term white man is often misunderstood by those who are not well versed in issues of social justice and peace studies.

Also, alot of the conflicts in India are a direct result of the "colonial masters" and/or the Aryan Invasion. Look at India, what is considered beauty... light skin, light eyes, until this very day human beings attempt to bleach their skin.

Everything is still measured as success relative to the "White Masters", Gorai Sikhs have abandoned the identity of the "White Man" they are visible minorities. The truth remains, white privilege is prevelant and cannot be ignored.

Well said Singh....but I still think it will go over the average doughnut Sikhs head. See how many of our OWN people are so dumb that they will do other peoples dirty work for them and think it is actually following their faith....have we any hope with "geniuses" like this abound in our community.

Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh's ideas were that the British should be out of India and that India should be a socialist state. The former has happened and the latter was a disaster. Their ideas may have been right at the time that they lived but as we have seen India as an independent country has committed more atrocities than the British ever did. Socialism doesn't work and USSR/China experiences have shown that.

Sham Singh Attari was for the independence of the Punjab under a Sikh monarchy. How does joining the British army go against his sacrifice? Unless of course Brown has an agenda to invade Punjab and resurrect the Raj!

It's not always possible to always be doing the right thing in any job. You stated earlier Sikhs had to fight in immoral wars such as the Opium Wars. But let's not forget that the Sikh experience in the British Army also gave them the opportunity to be involved in fighting Fascism and thereby a role in stopping the biggest genocide in history. The army isn't always about invading other countries, prior to Iraq the British Army was involved in a great deal of peacekeeping duties around the world.

although the western world currently dominate the world it has nothing to do with race or intelligents, or mentality its all do to geography that they have excelled. its true when people are in power they are going to abuse it and try to hold on to it, its human nature and it don't matter what ethnicity you are that is why we need sikhi to help us over come worldly ways. the west is fast loosing there control over the world too india and china are on the path to be the next super powers and sadly america is declining just like the british did

the army can be good it will make you stronger and increase your miri just don't loose your piri. can you keep kesh in british army are there any restrictions on jobs etc? would love to know
