You said your mother was ill. Was she diagnosed with anything? You told your mother about your thoughts. Why is she not suggesting that you get medical attention? Is she fearful of you? What does your brother say? Were either of them on medication? What type?

Don't answer any of this till you FIRST MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. If you are really afraid, and you know deep down, go to the hospital. You are not hurting anyone by doing any of that. You are being wise and very intelligent in helping yourself and others.

Regardless of whether you will feel the need to carry out any thoughts, you will benefit from seeing a medical professional.

Make the call right now for your appointment. Don't wait till you are feeling worse.

Once you tell us what date your appointment with a professional is, I will provide some further thoughts on some comments here.

To answer your original question, i dont think the symptoms you described sound like OCD. But please dont diagnose yourself, or allow others even those who claim to be Dr's to diagnose you online.

No one here knows you, we know nothing about your life, your medical history, you families medical history therefore no one here, is in a position to advise you.

However please do accept our suggestions:

Firstly: Seek professional help. Make an appointment with your Dr and talk through your issues with him/her.

Secondly: As others have suggested, continue with your Simran, hopefully it will keep your mind occupied and stop any bad thoughts.

But please do go seek advise from your Dr. You may of heard about the young girl who heard voices in the news this week, she received counselling at school because of these voices. Everyone is different and we all cope with different situations in our own way, so what works for us one person may not work for you. So the best step is seeing a professional. I hope it all works out for you.

Dr. Ojaam Singh,

what if this happens to teenage girls and not just boys? :@blush.gif is that "normal"?

I wouldn't take advice from someone regarding that unless they showed you a degree or some other qualifications. :D

i agree wholly with D Kaur

these topics generally make me laugh and think about how confused our qaum can be.. just thinking back to so many of the politically motivated topics or the accusational ones....

and in this case we say "just do simran, it's all good" because mera baid guru govinda... I do sincerely wonder how many of us would say the same thing if he was our blood-brother and had these thoughts about our blood-mother and stuff... he should be getting advice that we'd be giving to our bestest of best friends.

but in these political things (i.e i think khalistan topics are a good analogy), naam simran isn't the answer, NO!! active participation, mudslinging, brainwashing, and blacklisting are appropriate.. naam simran can wait, when it comes to those topics... because in that case, "ishha poorakh sarab sukh daata har, jaa kai vass hai kaamdheyna|| so aisaa har dhiyaayeeai meray jiarday taan sarab sukh paavai meray manaa||" does not apply.

in other words, the majority of the replies have been "jus chill, lay back, relax, be complacent, whatever it's all good, it's 'hukam' " but in other cases, 'hukam' is "no go out and do something about it! complacency gets you nowhere!".. i love reading buddasingh posts, despite our differences, cuz the man is so consistent and he's a beacon of knowledge and a perfect person to seek advice from through his posts....

i guess i'm aching for some consistency, cuz we're all over the map.. here we've got the livelihood and ewll being of a singh and his family, and yes, naam simran is the curer of all, i'm not even attempting to argue or deny that... but CERTAINLY seeing a medical practitioner is in order, here... that's like assuming that Guru Sahib didn't tell his Singhs to get their war injuries mended, that they should just do simran and it would heal itself....

Topic Starter: PLEASE PLEASE see a doctor. Please! If that means ayurvedic/homeopathic whatever, go do it! if it means seeing allopathic psychiatristts, go do it!! just go take care of it

AND keep doing simran! but don't abandon all your possible medical avenues for treatment. Faith is super important in these types of situation, so keep the simran going by ALL means.. but it is also important to see what might be possible in terms of addressing it from a mental aspect as well.

Good Luck

Many have suggested to do your nitnem and simran, that's wonderful, do it

However

Dr Ojaam suggested it was normal, it's good, however no one can give you a proper diagnosis (If you need one) online,

thus as others have suggested previously:

Go see a psychologist or psychiatrist

Please don't hesitate and do it as soon as possible

best to you

Hi - this does sound like OCD - I did have a bout of it a long time ago but am now a lot better! I would advise you to go see a doctor or alternatively buy some OCD books form Amazon. The therapy you may find works best is cognitive therapy.

Eg. OCD occurs because you let your mind have illogical thoughts, ie. you believe by having bad thoughts those will come true. You need to treat your mind as an external entity - therefore if your mind thinks these things let them happen. When they do not occur or happen then you will have broken free from the mind? I hope this makes things clearer?

An excellent example of this is people who have hang-ups about touching handles, doors, etc. for fear of getting 'dirty'. Cognitive therapy in this instance would be to touch everything and then sit down without washing yourself/hands. You need to show your mind (as a 3rd person) that you will not be bound by it's stupid thoughts.

Hope I have offered some help,

Guru Fateh

Dr. Ojaam Singh,

what if this happens to teenage girls and not just boys? :@blush.gif is that "normal"?

the oraginale poster got his answerrs...and "huh" u might have found an asnwer in the other posts.

its just one of the theories ...like Dr.O.S. said ...its Freudian "theory"

if u are a teenage..i would say talk to ur school psychologist/cousler/socal worker or even nurse.

they can help u out with it!

Last but not Least....when u read on or hear about any psychology terms or any mental disorder etc just know that u will feel like U HAVE THAT OR ITS U!

here is a lesson for us:

prof told us the 2nd yr of psych courses something like this which may help....

its normal to think u have that disorder or u are crazy while or after reading about each disorder. but know that unless a professional diagnose u with a disorder, u dont have it.

ex: it is always said to the people who go study psychology that u will feel that u have depression, multiple personality or r mentally ill after reading each chapter on different metal disorders.

there are many overlaps in definitions and diagnosis. there is no REAL definition of "Normal" it changes as we learn more about our body, mind, and soul in the books.

if u feel whats happning to u isnt normal, go see a doc/professional and find out instead of guessing at home or trying to figure it out by self or talking about it with friends.

----

org poster...let us know please how u are feeling and what is going on

hope u are well, and took the advice of sangat from here to go see a Dr.

depending on where one lives...many times it's the "Dr. Bills" that prevent people to not go see a specialist ... and i am not sure if thats the case with u. if it is ...just PM me!

waheguru ang sang sahai always!

wjkk wjkf!
