The same thing prevail during Mughal rule, they say sikhs are finished but again they rise.

says who ???

meer manu killed loads of sikhs ... did sikhs protested in front of delhi they want rights ??? they took them with shri sahib ... the way guru taught ...

wadda ghalughara 40000 sikhs died in a single day ... sikhs took them shaheeds and felt proud of them ... instead of protesting in front of lahore they brothers and sisters got murdered ...

name even a single sikh who left punjab fearing govt in mughal era ??

yet its same ...

u have already forgetten the aim for which several sikhs died ... the aim was chardikalla of sikhi ... and on a baisakhi day ... in gurdwaras intead of telling youth this day guru sahib created khalsa ... people chant GOI this GOI ... they have forgotten the aim of sikhi ...

and sarriyan gallan di ek gall ... jithe marji khalistan banna lao ... but jai punjab kanni maddi najar kitti ... appna kheyal kar leena ...

Read history if you dont fight then all sikhs in Punjab will finally either be killed or leave religion to become punjabi who goes to temple and gurudwara. and thinks Raja Ram Chander is in Guru Granth sahib and worship mythological or imaginary characters.

self assumptions

Veer jee, most of us were never in the cause, so we are leaving nothing. We are merely sitting in our homes, probably watching Champions league and thinking about what we will do over the next few days.

Im simply stating that two worlds exist, one world lives in poverty and stuggles in corruption, the other mostly lives in luxury and thinks it has the right to condemn (they are cowards apparently) and decide the future of the former.

No one is saying anything about forgiveness, first one will ask forgiveness before they are forgiven. Im not sure many people are asking for forgiveness. I dont think the people in Punjab are forgetting anyone who became shahid. However, the issue for them today is finding roti to put down their familys mouths. We are so badly out of touch with Punjab, its easy for us to burn Indian flags and have some nice hot langar afterwards. We forget we are dealing with real people living in the real world. Its not right to forget those who became shahids but its also not right to forget about the issues real people are facing today in Punjab.

All we are good at is creating labels for people. Veer jee If we look at history, people were present in the state or country where the action or fight took place, they were not absent in some foreign land pointing fingers. Also just to point out, no one is oppressing, killing or making people leave Sikhi in Punjab, people have the right to decide and follow their faiths. The creation of a state can be a demand which all people of a nation have, but labelling people is not something which is needed.

you'd be surprised how much NRI money is in punjab. get the facts straight. NRIs spend tens of thousands of dollars to visit punjab with their families. NRI sikhs own enough land in punjab to moot the assertion that sikhs abroad would never move to a khalistan.

you think every sikh abroad has no land in Punjab, no home there? almost every NRI sikh has family upon family which lives there. schools upon schools, hospitals, trusts etc etc are funded by NRI sikhs.

yet people act like people fled punjab and yell about khalistan without any stake in punjab's future.

go to indira gandhi airport and see how many sikhs from abroad visit their homeland. so many visit that even after the airport in amritsar, now another one is coming up in Mohali...who's flying there? its mostly all those people in nagar kirtan videos yelling about khalistan.

and as for nobody in punjab wanting khalistan, its interesting that the GOI had to eliminate tens of thousands of sikh youth and imprison tens of thousands more; what did those people want, some makki di roti and saag with lassi?

and yes you are right, it is easier to protest over here in UK, canada, etc, because we won't be picked up and tortured. no doubting that claim. But it's obviously being effective as even the PM of the country is getting nervous and making statements regarding nagar kirtans in Canada.

If yelling about khalistan in canada is worthless, then why all the hoopla in the indian media? why do indian cabinet ministers have their dhotis in a twist?

i agree that the concpet of khalistan needs a little brushing up, but to ignore the concept wholeheartedly is a great blunder. there was a reason behind the bloodshed. there was a reason for the gov't actions. to deny that there is a strong feeling among hundreds of thousands of sikhs about khalistan is simply, stupid.

peace.

Barapind for Sikh state through democratic means

Tribune Reporters

Amritsar, April 30

Former militant of Khalistan Commando Force (Panjwar) Kulbir Singh Barapind has stressed the launch of a national movement to attain independence for the Sikh community through democratic means.

Stating this to the media here today, Barapind said he, along with various panthic organisations, would launch the movement for securing the basic fundamental rights of the Sikh community. He was in the city to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple after his release from the Nabha jail yesterday.

Barapind said various Hindu organisations and political parties had misinterpreted the Khalistan movement, saying it was only for the Sikh community. He said they were for establishing an independent state where everyone including Hindus, Christians and Muslims could lively without any fear besides enjoying their basic fundamental rights.

NABHA: Barapind, who was extradited from the US in 2006, was released from the local jail late evening hours on Tuesday.

Yesterday, additional sessions judge B.K. Mehta acquitted him of the murder of four members of a family of Tarkhan Majra village of Jalandhar for the lack of concrete evidence.

Flays Vedanti on ‘Khalistan’

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has condemned the recent statement made by Joginder Singh Vedanti, jathedar of Akal Takht, on “separate homeland for Sikhs”.

He added that Vedanti should have realised that he was heading an important institution and should have not made such remarks.

Badal was reacting to Vedanti’s remarks in New York that “he was in favour of a separate Sikh homeland”.

Dal Khalsa joins issue with Badal on Vedanti's pro-Khalistan remarks

CHANDIGARH: Describing the formation of Sikh state as inalienable right of the community, the Dal Khalsa lambasted Parkash Singh Badal for ridiculing the concept and goal of Khalsa-raj.

The controversy was triggered in the wake of Jathedar Akal Takht Gaini Joginder Singh Vedanti, who while addressing a public meet at New York justified the demand for Sikh Homeland.

Party general secretary Kanwarpal Singh said after a long time, Jathedar Akal Takht has articulated the collective aspiration of the Sikh people.

He said "who is Badal to question Vedanti for airing pro-Sikh state views". Kanwarpal said the statement of Vedanti carries a lot of weight as in the capacity of the Jathedar of the Akal Takht, he represents the collective will of the community.

Dal Khalsa leader took Badal to task for undermining the concept of Khalsa Raj for the sake of enjoying pelf and privileges within the existing system. “The manner in which Badal has scolded Vedanti for his remarks it tantamount to insulting the person holding the highest temporal post of the Sikhs”, he added.

"We acknowledge that Sikhs and Punjabis are peace-loving people. They need peace for overall development. But at the same time, aspiring for self-rule is the birth right of every community and it should not be negated like Badal has attempted to do", he pointed out.

However, he expresses his apprehension that undue Akali pressure might force Jathedar Vedanti to withdraw or amend his statement. "We know well that Jathedar has a tendency to succumb to pressure", he observed.

Akal Takhat Jathedar assured of Sikh Diasporas support if he seeks political asylum abroad

Amritsar, May 1: Dr. Amarjit Singh, Director of the Washington-based radical Sikh leader suggested on Thursday in a press statement to the Akal Takht Jathedar, Joginder Singh Vedanti, that he will have the support of the three million strong Sikh Diaspora if he seeks political asylum abroad.

Dr. Singh was reacting to a report headlined, "Flays Vedianti on Khalistan" published in Chandigarh-based newspaper Tribune which broadcasted the reaction and intentions of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to a speech delivered by the Akal Takht Jathedar, Vedanti, in the US.

In an interview to ANI over Phone from Washington Dr. Singh said that the Akal Takht Jathedar is being humiliated, punished, for expressing his support, in a public speech, for a sovereign, democratic, buffer state of Khalistan in front of an audience of 30,0000 Sikh-Americans who had assembled in New York for the annual Vaisakhi day parade.

here is makkar, not in the mood:

SGPC chief too flays Vedanti

Varinder Walia

Tribune News Service

Amritsar, May 1

After Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, flaying Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar, Akal Takht, for advocating creation of “Khalistan”, SGPC president Avtar Singh, who is in New York, said Vedanti should “think before he speaks”.

He said the SGPC always endorsed policies of the SAD which was against the demand of a separate Sikh homeland. He said the SGPC would seek report from Vedanti as he had already backed out from his statement.

Avtar Singh said he always held Vedanti in high esteem keeping in view the great post he held, but he should give statements which were in the larger interest of the Sikh community.

However, Dr Amarjit Singh of the Khalistan Affairs Centre (KAC), Washington DC, who had invited Vedanti to attend the “Sikh Parade” on Baisakhi, said it was unfortunate the jathedar was trying to back out from his statement on Sikh homeland.

From the US, Dr Amarjit Singh told The Tribune he had recorded the entire speech of Vedanti which would be made public. He said initially, representatives of various gurdwaras in the US were against inviting Vedanti due to his tendency of changing stand.

He said the jathedar had “boldly endorsed the right of self-determination of Sikhs for a water/food-rich democratic buffer state of Khalistan in South Asia”.

He added the call of Vedanti was endorsed by over 30,000 Sikhs gathered at Madison Avenue Park, New York.

Joining the issue, the Dal Khalsa described the formation of Sikh state as inalienable right of the community. The party slammed Badal for ridiculing the concept.
