I admire seeing people wearing bana as it fills me with great pride about the Khalsa history and traditions, but it is not a uniform laid down by Guru Gobind Singh ji, it is a Khalsa tradition maintained by the nihangs and has only been popularised amongst wider Sikhs in the last half a century. Great Sikhs like Bhai Sahib have been pictured wearing what was fashionable and current in their day. For instance in Bhai Sahib's day the black sherwani and white chooridar paijama were popular amongst the nobility and educated in northern India.

Today a Sikh wearing a Saville Row suit walking down the high street is no less Guru Gobind Singh's Sikh than any other because of what he wears. A Khalsa brother will recognise a fellow Khalsa brother irrespective of what he wears and both are children of Dasmesh pita.

WAHH :3singh3:

WAHH BAI WAHH  ..Is that Papi (Guest) by any chance?? :gg:

Gurfateh jee.

I will answer your baana question, but im keepin my Identity gupt.

1) But what about work? Do they allow you to wear Bana or do u have to wear uniform? I have an interview with H Samuels (Jewellers) and they all wear suits, would i be made to wear a suit??

I work in a within the health services, theyre fine with me wearing baana, but thats because you can wear what you like. If there are specific uniforms you may have to follow the dress code. Not too sure bout working in a jewellers, they cant discriminate you on what you wear can they?

2) What about Dhumalla Shashter? do police say anythin? are you allowed to wear all 5 in ur Dastar freely showing?

Cant answer this one, i dont wear a damala.

3) Im guessin ur not allowed to wear da masssive Kirpana outside lol, so do you keep your Gatra over ur Bana or under?

I wear my kirpaan underneath my baana.

If u wanna keep the rehit, go for it :)

gurfateh jee

Thank You for ur advice Penji!!! I'm going to start wearin Bana everywhere now!! :D

But could someone else please answer the questions aswell? Someone who wears a Dhumalla as i really need to know this!!! Could the topic starter possibly answer my quesions please?? Or any1 else!!

WJKK, WJKF

dhamalla shastars are fine as they are protected under 3 parliament acts under religious blades

and you can wear a kirpan with a curved blade up to 20 inches max (50cm)

the 2 foot ratowal kirpans are good, the blade is 18 inches long and i wear a kirpan over my clothes :)

It's

Bani

then

Bana

ORDER MATTERS !!!!!!!!

theyre all just as important as eachother

Think about it this way,

a sikh can exist without bana ( i'm talking about stuff other than 5 kakkar's)

a sikh can NOT exist without bani.

You tell me which one is more important

the Rehat Maryada was established so that you get the GARUANTEE that if you follow it then you are Guru Gobind Singh, bana, bani seva and simran are all equal as you need all 4 to get his roop

you cant get his roop without kes

you cant get his roop without shastars

you cant get his roop without doing Jaap sahib

you cant get his roop without bana

you cant get his roop without the rehat

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH

I have a message to the Sangat

Guru Gobind Singh Jee has given us Bana as one of the 5 pillars of Sikhism

BANA bani seva simran and shastar

so what exactly is "bana"? when Guru Gobind Singh ji told Mata Bhag Kaur to take care with her clothing (she had such high avastha she forgot about material things and her clothes were worn to shreds), all he said was to always wear kachhera and dastaar.

who defines bana?

old photos and drawings of nihungs show a very short chola and huge kachhera. i don't see any pajami...

post-18673-1220026930.jpg

i don't think i'd be comfortable running about in a short top and kachhera all exposed. :) i'm worried aboout my modesty... does that mean i'm not a good Sikh?

and what about shoes? in Guru ji's time people wore jutti with big curly toes, or wooden sandles, or went bare foot. which do you wear? none are particularly comfortable when you're walking the pavement in the big city.

as i understand it, bana is dastaar and 5ks. trust me, as a woman running around in a 10-15 meters dastaar, i definitely stand out!

i've actually ordered proper bana, but it hasn't come yet. thing is, i'll be wearing pajami and a chola that goes below my knees. is that good enough?

I have a message to the Sangat

Guru Gobind Singh Jee has given us Bana as one of the 5 pillars of Sikhism

BANA bani seva simran and shastar

but why do i see very few people wearing Bana on a daily basis? why do you wear kalljug clothes when Guru Gobind Singh has given you his beautiful Bana

in Sri Sarbloh Granth, Guru Gobind Singh Jee says, Khalsa mero roop hai khas - the khalsa is my true image/form

so if you are a khalsa, why do you not look like Guru Gobind Singh? if you have taken amrit and refuse to wear bana, then why did you take amrit?

Sri Singh Sahib Yogi Harbhajan Khalsa said 'most sikhs hate bana and some of you are starting to hate it too, well sikh dharma has money go take it and shave off, we dont need you and you dont need us'

another quote from Sri Sarbloh Granth - 'so long as the Khalsa stays true in deeds and appearance, so long i shall give them all of my glory and strength, but if they follow the ways of others, i shall withdraw all of my support.'

WAKE UP KHALSA JEE AND WALK THE PATH OF GURU GOBIND SINGH JEE, LIVE IN HIS FULL ROOP!

Well I think bana is more important when a singh is in the fauj.

Back in history, it used to be the singhs that stayed behind at the dals ie nihangs who wore bana everyday, and the other singhs went back to a civilian lifestyle after wars, and wore normal clothes.

So if we want to wear bana, we should also actually stay in the actual fauj and not outside?!?
