"I am not too sure about that veeray. Several Punjabi girls born in Sikh families don't like turbanned guys, and the general non-Sikh girls (unless they are blessed lol) look upon Sardars as jokers anyways. So I don't think non-Sikhs would want to "learn" how Sardars get girls dance around them because reality is totally different. In my opinion, non-Sikhs could learn qualities like being helpful etc. from Sikhs."

hmm...maybe.

"tu thair ja mai dassda parjhaaee nu...vadda aya gorgeous da...HAHAHAHAHAHA...juz kidding veeray "

haha...parjhaaee knows me better :) i hope :umm:

fateh singh!

The Indian Film Company (AIM:IFC), a leading Bollywood film investment company, is pleased

to announce that Singh is Kinng, a film of

which it owns the worldwide distribution rights, has achieved what is believed to be the

largest opening weekend box office takings for a

Bollywood film following its worldwide release on Friday, 8 August 2008.

The film, an action comedy starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, directed by Anees

Bazmee, achieved worldwide gross box office takings

of INR 595 million (£7.35 million). The film was released on 1700 screens worldwide, across

India, U.K., U.S.A, Canada, and U.A.E.

The film's success in the U.K propelled it to 7th position in the UK TOP 10, an index

which includes the latest Hollywood releases.

Additionally, IFC recently sold the music rights to Singh is Kinng for a limited period to

Junglee Music, a division of the Times of

India Group for INR 107 million (£1.32 million); in what is believed to be a record

valuation for a film soundtrack in India.

Sandeep Bhargava, the CEO of the Investment Adviser to IFC commented:

"We are delighted that Singh is Kinng has had a fantastic opening weekend. There was a

great deal of interest in the film prior to its

release and we are optimistic that the film will continue to achieve excellent box office

takings over the course of the next few weeks. The

success of Singh is Kinng underlines the ability of the IFC team to invest in quality

productions and maximise revenues through extended

I saw clips of the movie last night on you tube (about 30 mins of the beginning and bits in between and the last 30 minutes). Man.. forgot that you need to amputate your brain in order to watch a bollywood movie. What a strange bunch of funny looking turbaned characters at the beginning.

If "Sikhs" are boosted by this movie then as a community we must be one big funny story. The characters are nothing more that an over exagerated play on the stereotypes Indians have of "Sikhs" and just cos the "Sikh" character get's the woman in the end makes some people seem satisfied. Hello...how Sikh looking is the main character, looks more like a comical ali bongo magician then a Sikh.

"Jab Lag Khalsa Rehay Niara", the problem is people want to be "Happy Singh" rather than that "niara" Khalsa.

All in all, a pretty diabolical movie. Give me Sholay anyday.

I personally don't understand why ppl are getting their pants wet over this movie, i don't think anyone tried taking a shot at the sikh community through this movie, if someone going to get mad at this movie why not get mad at bhangra videos as well while their at it, why are they stopping now, why not attack the corruption within the community while their at it, their's more serious issues then this movie but so many losers to scared to take on real problems and decide to protest something stupid as this movie, could anyone explain why the actors and director in the movie would try insulting sikhs?

Plus akshay kumar isn't the smartest man but he tried pumping up sikhs in his movie but could of done it in a better fashion, the guy also was attacked last year for a hindu song were he had girls dancing around in bikinis around a hindu god

The movie was all hype with no substance. For a comedy movie it was the usual bollywood hassi mazak, i knew i should have just watched russel peters outsourced again for the 4th time and it would have still been more funny than the movie. lol my mom had high expectations of this movie

straight up.

i think many were just satisfied that "they" didn't make fun of us. that's what it has come to.

peace.

II don't think the makers of the film had a malicious intent, but they have been a bit irresponsible in their research and should have maybe taken a more sensitive approach to the turban/beard issue and Sikh religious sentiments as a pose to cultural stereotypes. You are 100% correct about why people more concerned about this specific “Sikh” character bopping up and down and not the countless turbaned Bhangra stars who perv around younger women in their Videos.

From a personal point of view I am frustrated at our portrayal within the mainstream and can only blame it on our own incorrect collective representation of Sikhi. It’s strange that we kicked up such a fuss when Ram Rahin Gurmeet adorned a pink outfit and a funny hat which we were so willing to compare to Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Roop and yet we pay not attention to the real Sikhi roop of Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj which we destroy everyday when we become those drinking dancing turbaned Happy Singhs.
