Funds For Pakistani Sikh Brother In Need

Recommended Posts

As you know a Sikh in southern Pakistan was attacked by a Brahman mob. Gutkas were thrown out, he was badly trashed and humiliated. He and his family were thrown out.

Is there a way to help him, if we want to send funds or any other way.

Why not setup a fund of SikhSangat to help this brother in need. He has been a Sikh for more than 6 years and despite economical hardships did not ask for any help. Even now it is only after this murderous attack on the Singh that we decided to get some funds to help him fight his case and setup a small time business in some area with more Sikhs (we have thought about Panja Sahib for time being - there are no Sikhs at all in the surrounding 10 districts he is living in).

Two of us sevadaars have put in some personal maya and collected some and we have nearly 1400$ (120,000 rs in Pak). If more help could be raised it would be great.

The Singh is trying his best to get justice but nobody is listening, we have got to help him, before he is forced to leave Sikhi.

When Sikhs in Punjab embrace Christianity we cry, but we don't help at time either. Its at such times that Christian missionaries jump in.

Besides that, the Singh has promised to help fellow poor Sikhs once his business is setup. (which he can't do now because he isn't economically well off himself and vulnerable to attacks by Brahmans)

Does Sikhsangat.com have a fund or are they thinking of setting one up? All members can then put a little money in every month and the members can decide where it should go. Of course there are thousands or thousands of needy people who deserve it but even if we help one sister / brother like the one in Pakistan it's better than helping no one. It's something that should be done, as the site is well respected and we know the money will go to the persons directly without deductions, or is it better too donate directly too other organistions (and which ones)?

Even if all members like 18,000 direct debit £1 a month thats £18,000 a month, converted into rupees it would be able to help hundereds if not thousands of families every year.

You're absolutely right brother.

O come on guyz ! In a muslim country , who's gonna attack sikhs ? brahmans ! really ?

It was most probably done by mussies who were afraid of growing number of sikhs !

Pakistan has 5% minorities, about 3 million Christian & 2 million Hindus. The only district that has a non Muslim majority in Pakistan is the district where Bhai Jagjit Singh was attacked. The district is 51% Hindu.

Other nearby districts include Umerkot (43% Hindu) etc.

Just like most Pakistani Sikhs live in NWFP, most Christians live in Punjab and Hindus in Sindh.

If you don't believe me, I can PM you his number.

SevadaarEKhalsa,

It's good to see that so many Sikhs are doing their best to help out our fellow Sikhs. I seem to remember that a fund was set up or was in the process of being set up by Sikhsangat some years ago. It would be a good idea so that members who can make donations can contribute to helping the needy brothers or sisters around the world. It also ensures that we are not just a talking shop and that we make a difference to some of the sad stories that get posted on here. How many times do we read of a needy Sikh and then realise that we are basically helpless in assisting them because they live in another country and we don't know how and if the donation we make will get there. I think it's a great undertaking by yourselves.

As for Bhai Jagjit Singh, can you please PM me some details and if possible a UK account number to make a donation.

ProActive, thanks for the kind words veer. We need to bring a change, we have spread enough awareness about these problems, now its the time to do something for them.

Check your PM.

Sadly there is no UK account number or so, hence I had requested SikhSangat to make some online fund where members could donate (following similar requests). I am awaiting s1ngh's reply as of now.

Gurfateh,

It is true that we raised quite a bit funds for three SikhGiving projects with the help of forum members. SikhGiving is dormant this year but still providing help to one kidney patient family in Punjab (Jaswinder Singh). SikhGiving was established few years ago by sending 100% sangat's sewa directly to needy family/person back in punjab upon verifying details in person. We create and take projects created by either admin or by forum members (just like this thread). Upon getting information, we verify all details in punjab (talking to doctor, getting second opinion and so on..) and then we see if it the project sounds feasible or within our limits. We sadly can't decide anything about the project mentioned in this thread, and we can't take responsibility because we don't know anyone who is in pakistan or visits pakistan often. It is not within our reach and we don't collect funds and hand em to someone whom we don't know. Extremely sorry because Pakistan or other countries are out of our reach.

SevadaarEKhalsa, what you can do is open a paypal account and start the fundraising. I am sure one can easily open a paypal account and it is now global payment getaway. After you reach your goal then send the money via western union or there are other countless ways to send it.

Sorry for not replying to pm/emails (im very slow in replying back) but if one is in hurry, please do contact other ss sewadars.

How about contacting Khalsa Aid, as they already do projects like this they may be able to help.

Khalsa Aid is concentrating its efforts in Punjab and searching and supporting the families of the Shaheeds who have been neglected. We are also supporting other poverty stricken Sikhs and the Dharmi Faujis. We have so far set up monthly support for over 70 families. We will not be launching any further projects until we have established these projects , some of these projects in Punjab will no doubt be expanding rapdily . However as an emergency relief organisation we will continue our international aid provision where needed. Our work in Haiti and on the Libyan border continues.
