Since you mentioned it Mehtab Singh Jee, I wonder what is Pakistani Punjabi's view on Ghazwa e Hind? I have been hearing it a lot for the last 3 years or so. Many Pakistanis believe there will be a final and decisive war between Islam and Hinduism in which Islam will triumph. On the one side they say will be the combined Islamic forces of South Asia led by Pakistan and on the other side will be Hindu India. Many of the leading Islamic scholars of Pakistan believe in this.

I agree. It's pretty transparent that the Hajj was purely a business exercise for the local Qureshi caste under the cover of it being requirement insisted by God. The fact that Muhammad thought God needs humans to make the Hajj just shows what a limited view of Allah, Prophet Muhammad actually held. What whole world knows it? I study religious studies at one of the most prestigious universities of America. We are taught exactly the same thing as I told you. You have no idea of historical Islamic scholarship or Islam's theology etc. Have you ever wondered why Judaism and Christianity just scummed to post-enlightenment secular onslaught while Islam performed really well infront of secular rational onslaught, Mashallah? Classical Islam is based on enlightenment, rational era..Remember, Islam saw the "golden age" early in his career? Scholars in as early as 8th century questioned Islam, Qur'an, Prophet Muhammad, Islamic Theology etc etc...So Islam has already seen all of it and Mashallah is geared to survive in the harshest of environments..that is why it is THE most successful religion of human history. Show me another faith that got 2.2 billion followers in first 1450 years of its existence and became a global religion and spreaded everywhere? Only Islam can do that..Mashallah!

So this argument of common sense blah blah is weak.. Do you know that the field of "Qur'anic Textual Criticism" arose in 8th-9th century? Scholars, theologians, rational skepticals etc just teared through Islam..asking questions after questions..questioning everything..doubting every aspect of Islam...and hence the Islamic Scholarship arose. The base of Islam is VERY strong Mashallah..it has already faced the 'music' and came through it...Other religions just failed.

For example : There are 8 books written by one Egyptian Scholar of 10th century exploring the 'problem' that Allah says in Qur'an that God has revealed this text to Muhammad in Arabic..but some of the words in Qur'an have Persian origin..how come? (He actually proves that this wasn't a problem and those words, though believed to be Persian, were in fact Arabic) See, this was the level of scrutiny Islam went through when it was in his childhood...but gullible non-Muslims can dream on that about common sense blah blah...While Islam swepts through the world globally Mashallah :biggrin2:

lol...I didn't say this with pride. But everyone knows that every nation protects its national interests. I have a question for you. I've lived in the Middle East as well as in the West. Tell me something, you guys don't allow non-Muslims to have their places of worship in your Islamic lands, but when you come abroad to the West, you want to have a mosque in every street. Well its amazing, I have no problems with mosques in every street, but I would like to see that reciprocated too. I would like to see non-Muslim places of worship in the Middle East also, if not every street, maybe not in every town, but atleast one in every few towns. I am sure this will never happen. You partially admit that Islam spread by the sword when you say that it came to India in the form of a military conquest but then spread through Sufism. Here are 2 major contradictions. Firstly, if it spread through Sufism, why are the same Sufis today getting bombed and killed? Why is the same Sufism regarded as unIslamic when it is infact responsible for the spread of Islam? Secondly, since Islam came to India with sword in hand, it doesn't matter how sweetly the Sufis preached it LATER ON, the sword factor was always there. In layman's terms, once you beat the $h!t out of someone, you may talk as sweetly as you want to afterwards, but the dude who got thrashed will listen to you no matter what because he doesn't want his @$$ kicked any more. Muslims came to India as invaders, once that happened, no matter how spiritually uplifting experiences Sufis offered, the general masses of India never forgot the blade of the Islamic sword and would have converted anyways. This fact cannot be neglected.

I am not very much knowledgeable about the history of Islam before it came to India, but all those historians cannot be wrong. Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Jee Maharaj was martyred (anniversary on June 12th next week) by the Mughals who were (maybe not practicing/devout) Muslims. Same was for Sahib Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee Maharaj, same was for Chhote Sahibzaade and scores of other GurSikhs. We Sikhs don't need to rely on ANY other piece of info or historical document. Our history is written in the blood of our martyrs, and guess who shed that blood, yes, Muslims! Back in the days it was Hindus who betrayed us and Muslims who killed us. Today its Hindus doing both (thanks to some traitors in beard-turban as well), but that doesn't negate the fact about what happened to us in history. It was ALWAYS the blade of Islam's sword! You may have a boatloads worth of what you like to look upon as evidence from history or whatever other subject. Good for you! For us, the scenes of the above mentioned shaheediyaan are more than enough to make us choose the right path. The reason is that we are comparatively a very young religion and a small minority almost everywhere we go. We didn't send armies to go conquer foreign lands, Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee Maharaj did that Himself all alone just by preaching Gurbani and using no tangible weapons. The reason is that we at the moment don't have our own sovereignty thanks to backstabbing traitors and brutal oppressors. But Guru Sahib said Raaj Karega Khalsa, so its inevitable. The issues we face are short lived and we will, as we always have, overcome every hurdle thrown at us gracefully and come out in flying colors.

We can discuss and debate till pigs start flying and waste each others time. The only solution in my opinion is that those Muslims who are intolerant towards Sikhs, and those Sikhs who cannot stand such Muslims should live non-existent towards each other. Live as if the other persons shadow also doesnt exist for you, basically like you're dead to each other. Because I doubt we can live in peace, and its morally and ethically wrong to live in disharmony. So we should live as though were not even there, that way each one can live in peace and happiness. There are many factors for the spread of Islam in India. Sufism may have been a part of it to some extent, and it is the most popular reason given by South Asian Muslims. But reality is Islam in India was spread largely through the sword. We have no doubt about this. It is a part of Sikh history. Everyday we remember those Shaheeds from Sikh history who preferred to die as Sikhs than convert to Islam. When Afghans would raid India, they looted the Hindus who lived along the border near Afghanistan which is why they converted in mass so as to avoid harassment that a non Muslim would face from the ferocious Pathans. It's no coincidence that the people of west Punjab, Sindh, Kashmir which has now become Pakistan largely became Muslims while the further away from Afghanistan the non Muslim population was higher. Central Punjab would have became Muslim had it not been the birth place of Sikhi. Even Mughal emperor Jahangir mentions in Tauzke Jahangiri that he had executed Guru Arjan Dev Jee because large numbers of Hindus and Muslims of Central Punjab were becoming Sikhs. Guru Arjun Dev Jee was first given the choice to convert to Islam or face painful torture and eventual death. The 9th Guru was also given the same choice.

The Muslim governments were also not friendly towards non Muslims. The non Muslims had to pay the Jizya Tax just to remain Hindu. Those Hindus who were unable to pay this tax were coerced or given a choice between Islam or death. Most chose Islam. It was common for unmarried Hindu girls to be harassed and even abducted by the local faujdar. To avoid such harassment many converted to Islam. The Faujdars of Jalandhar Doab were especially cruel which is why the Hindu population of that region had become Muslims in large numbers. It is only the Sikhs and Marathas who refused to bow down to these intimidating tactics. Sikhs suffered their greatest holocausts at the hands of Muslims between 1700-1800. Entire generations of Sikhs were forced to abandon their homes and live in jungles just to survive as Sikhs rather then living comfortable lives as Muslims. It is such Sikhs that gave a befitting reply to both he Mughals and later the Afghans. Those Hindus who were scared became Muslims, those Hindus who wanted to keep their HIndu faith lived as dhimis while those HIndus who wanted to live with self respect became Sikhs. This is the history of Punjab.

Another reason why Islam spread and managed to remain is because apostasy was punishable with death. While a Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist, Jain may choose to leave the faith no one from his community will kill him. But not with Islam which awards death to any apostate. With such a rule in place, it is no wonder this faith has managed to retain their ranks for centuries and grow.
