Are You A Panjabi Or A Sikh First? Time To Decide

Recommended Posts

Alright, I think I have already posted this in another thread but I think this is could be a discussion in its own, hence I am starting this thread.

Time for Sikhs to le go of this garbage called Panjabi culture. All this filth of Heer Ranjjha, Sassi-Punnu, Sohni-Mahiwal, Bulle Shah, Waris Shah etc was spouted by Muslims. It certainly has nothing to do with Sikhi and contradicts everything that Sikh religion stands for. As for the moderns "Panjabi culture" thee less said the better- it is all about casteism, getting drunk/high or false pride disguised as "anakh". Panjabi culture is a defective, stupid and pagan culture. One of the key objectives o Sikh religion was to emancipate the masses from the falsehood of this silly pagan culture and lead them to the path of truth.

Anybody could be a Panjabi. Those Muslims from West Panjab and Malerkotla, those Panjabi Hindus, those cults like Ravidasis,Radha Swamis, Dera Lucha Sauda and all such zillion followers of such false evil cults are all Panjabis. Should we embrace them as our brothers? Well I can tell you that they would more than glad to see Sikhs become extinct. It is time to wake up from this illusion of "Panjabiyat " and "Panjabi brotherhood". I say, let Panjabi culture and "Panjabiyat" go to hell. Let both sides of Panjab burn and turn into wastelands. All this would could be tolerated as long as Sikhi prospers and proliferates.

Time to make up your minds folks- who are you? Sikh or Panjabi?

Sikh first obviously.

Punjabi culture is good but not Bhangra(aka Kanjar) culture that has hijacked authentic old Punjabi culture. The old Punjabi culture was a chivalrous culture.

No culture is perfect. Every culture has it's flaws. point is to follow only those aspects of culture that are compatible with Gurmat. Any aspect of a culture that contradicts Gurmat should be discarded.

indeed Punjabi culture is beautiful if we don't put two or three aspects such as Hindu/brahmin influence and Western culture...Because when we put them in punjabi culture,,The punjabi culture turns up into Poison ..

Which is why we are Sikhs first. Lets not forget there were Hindus, Muslims, and perhaps even Buddhists and Jains in Punjab before 1469. Lol, we can't just tell them "You guys are not Punjabis because you are not Sikhs". In fact , if you go by religion, perhaps Muslims (Pakistani Punjabi ones) are a majority of the Punjabi speaking population in the subcontinent. My point is no one has the copyright for Punjabiyat or for being called more Punjabi than someone else of another religion.

So once again, we are Sikhs first, that is a choice we make (not exactly a choice but a blessing I'd say). Being an Indian or Punjabi is not something you choose to be born into.

Thats again just my opinion, and I can be wrong.

how come you guys don't know? Punjabi Culture was glorious long before the Muslims came. Gorakh Nath and all those people.. very rich Indian history and if we go. a tad bit back we got buddhists. remember there were 2 great Buddhist invaders of Punjab, Tsang and Fa Hien. infact 30 or so letters The Gurmukhi script come from the Buddhist Siddham script. Not to mention Maharaja Ranjeet Singh, richest man of the world during his time, he and his associates were sometimes dressed head to toe in jewels something the foreigners never seen, nowadays celebrities make the news if the wear all diamond shoes but Runjit Singh was much ahead of his times, he also had the.strongest army of the world (only lost to british after death using dirty unwarlike tactics, eg Sher Singh assianation and faking wars). Educate yourselfs learn AND read Punjabi too the fullest

I am Sikh and Punjabi. They are two different things - but also intertwined. Waheguru chose Sikhi to be cradled in the land of Punjab. Punjab is special. One is my Dharam and the other my Dharti. The question of choice is unfair as the human form comes as individual entities made up of complex influences which others will see or judge you by. Denying your humanity by claiming it is one entity is unfortunate. Only the atma can claim to be a pure entity of dharam and only Waheguru can see that.

Sikh mainly

But also proud to say Canadian because it's the Country I'm born in and raised in. I can speak Punjabi but whether the culture stays with me or not makes no difference. The only thing that matters is the history of our Guru's and shaheeds that happened in India.

Both. Religion Sikh, culture Panjabi. Both help form my identity on this earth.

And who do you think you are asking us to choose?

. Time to bash cast-name users in our sangat no place for such thing.

Or to accept that people want to use their cast names and look at other bigger issues in the panth.

    • I didn’t say there is no racism in the Uk or that there is no casteism in Panjab.  I have family back home involved in politics so I have primary sources for my info as well.  I think with all respect, you are the one ‘talking shyte’ here. Again, to address directly the main points of the original post of this thread, it’s not just jatts in high positions and there are already quotas. I agree casteism is a major obstacle for Ekta in the Panjabi Sikh community. But, for example, more qualified people from ‘higher castes’ (including Tarkhans I think) cannot get jobs or university places because they go to the ‘scheduled castes’ first .
    • To me that's like saying because Priti Patel and Rishi Sunak are where they are, there is no racism in the UK.  You talk shyte.
    • Akaal Takht Jathedar is from a ‘low caste’ Same with recent ex-Chief Minister Channi. There have been quotas in place for many years to ensure ‘lower castes’ get many reserved political seats and (from my understanding) the same with senior Religious positions. Same for government jobs and university places in general. You have made a topic and points here which are quite inaccurate and misleading
    • I think nonjut Sikhs should just wait for these retards to hang themselves.  They say if you give a fool enough rope they'll hang themselves....I think they are halfway into that process already. Generally they are too retarded to have any even remotely constructive or intelligent conversation/negotiation with (as the forum has shown over the last decade).  Let's watch the inevitable show.   Hopefully it will be more interesting and stimulating than this one:
    • With the jat Sikhs making the majority in Punjab and having the most power . IE in terms of politics and also religiously. IE all major people controling and running the Gurdwaras being from this demographic. Should other castes be give some kind of quota for top jobs so we can have more equality and diversity in the Punjabi society and social strata. Or are they to power hungry and unable to share?  I think that is the only way of achieving a strong United Punjab instead of one where there is to much in fighting and resentments.
