I have to agree with BBC Nihal,why are there no sikhs MPS .Are sikhs so submissive they want others to lead them.With a sikh population of over 600 k, sikhs should be demanding sikhs to selected as candidates in few safe constituencies for both main parties

bcoz they dont rep the panth, only pleasing their masters. paul uppal from wolves is classic case. Id rather have a gorah mps like tom watson or pat mcfadden who DO things for their constituencies.

Pertinent question, given that 2 days ago in Canada, 5 Sardars and more than 10 others from a Punjabi background have become MP's.

Maybe the British Sikh prospective parliamentary candidates are at the behest of so-called jathebandi's, ensuring that any British Sikh who wants the Sikh vote, would have to tow the "jathebandi line" as it were, or face the chop i.e. Paul Uppal.

The only exception to this would be Parmjit Dhanda, MP for Gloucester during the Blair years. He didn't become an MP on the Sikh vote and wasn't at the behest of jathebandi's. He rose to become a minister.

This is why sometimes, it is easier for gorey to represent Sikh constituencies.

Jathebandi's/Sikh organisations have their own agenda's which often stifle prospective parliamentary candidates.

We can be our own worst enemy sometimes.

Canadian Sikh community is by and large a post 1984 community therefore they are far more politically cohesive than the UK Sikhs.

The UK Sikhs are by and large a post - war/post - partition community.

These particular dynamics the kaum in different ways.

Need to get some new MPS in Sikh majority areas at least. Virendra Sharma MP for Southall is welcoming Modi next month, are the constituents happy about this? Same goes for Seema Malhotra from Hounslow.
