I'm starting to hear this quote so often these days, been on a few dating sights, but basically our people have lost faith, this is troublesome to me, people will now say yay im Sikh, but do not have a clue or follow our ways, so sad to see to be honest  :(

Very true. I read it a lot in comments on YouTube videos of other faiths (know thy enemy, lol) and philosophies, where people say things like, "My parents are Sikh, but I don't know anything about it. This [the faith / ideology being presented in the video] makes sense."  I'm wondering, "What's happening to us?"

Yes, there's quite a few of those, too. But there's definitely an aspect of young people from Sikh families struggling with life and desperately looking for answers in whichever place that speaks to them sometimes as a last desperate throw of the dice. We need to ask ourselves why they don't feel prepared to seek the answers in the faith of their antecedents.

solution to kalyugi mat : kirtan, kirtan and  kirtan

work on nitnem and sing along to kirtaniyas of old  , and new  the raags will help lift your spirits and the gurbani your mind ,

lately I've been recommended on my YT very old AKJ kirtan from back in the day when I used to go on the rainsabai circuit here in UK with Mum and Dad. It wasn't a coincidence  I feel  as I was feeling low like everyone is describing and it has plugged me back into the mood and hopefulness of that age

Perhaps its the baba culture. The young sikhs think only scholars and babas can appreciate and dive deep into sikhi. That its not for the laypeople. They probably went to panjabi class or camp which was too deep/boring and they gave up.

And parents only pass down metha tek and do ardaas for things u want.

I think there's a certain degree of gatekeeping in Sikhi that goes on, too, definitely in the West. We tend to over complicate things whereas if you listen to parchaar from India, they go the other way, and appear to dumb it down too much.
