Just answer a factual question please:

Nihang Sikhs used to/still do dance to the dhol in a very military way, what about that? Anti-Sikh?

p.s. Dhadi's were around pre-Sikhism times as well.

From my limited knowledge on Sikhi, I haven't come across Nihangs dancing to dhol, so please give me little more detailed info. And Dhadis may have been there before Sikhi, but from what I know, it was made part of Sikhi by the sixth Guru. I don't know if dancing was ever made part of Sikhi.

I would think this is in reference to Hindus who would dance to please their God's, not to people who celebrate happenings in the real world.

The angels, mortals, renunciates, ritualists, silent sages and beings of spiritual wisdom dance.

The Siddhas and seekers, lovingly focused on the Lord, dance, as do the Gurmukhs, whose minds dwell in reflective meditation. ||4||

The planets and solar systems dance in the three qualities, as do those who bear love for You, Lord.

The beings and creatures all dance, and the four sources of creation dance. ||5||

They alone dance, who are pleasing to You, and who, as Gurmukhs, embrace love for the Word of the Shabad.

They are devotees, with the essence of spiritual wisdom, who obey the Hukam of His Command. ||6||

This is devotional worship, that one loves the True Lord; without service, one cannot be a devotee.

If one remains dead while yet alive, he reflects upon the Shabad, and then, he obtains the True Lord. ||7||

So many people dance for the sake of Maya; how rare are those who contemplate reality.

By Guru's Grace, that humble being obtains You, Lord, upon whom You show Mercy. ||8||

If I forget the True Lord, even for an instant, that time passes in vain.

With each and every breath, constantly remember the Lord; He Himself shall fo

rgive you, according to His Will. ||9||

They alone dance, who are pleasing to Your Will, and who, as Gurmukhs, contemplate the Word of the Shabad.

Says Nanak, they alone find celestial peace, whom You bless with Your Grace. ||10||1||6||

By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed.

But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3||

The Lord is the Lover of His devotees; He inspires them to perform devotional worship.

True devotional worship consists of eliminating selfishness and conceit from within.

My True God knows all ways and means.

It isn't that hard people. Sure, guru ji said what was said above. But I doubt even one of the people that dance dance without music on. So, the choice is yours. Listen to the tunes of the faithless cynic, chanting his useless words, or you could cut it out completley. I'm not taking another look at this topic, because this is absolutley ridiculous. At the end of the day, you really have to start thinking about who you're lying to, because it isn't only hypocrisy anymore, it ends up being lying to yourself, lying guru ji, and lying to god.

Hey Mehtab Singh,

Your little challenge reminded me of my own experience.

I know I stated in my earlier post that there's nothing wrong with dancing as long as it isn't dirty.

I hardly ever go to parties (maybe once a year?). From my whole extended family, only my own immediate family (parents, myself, brother) are the ones Guru ji has blessed with Sikhi saroop. I always feel out of place at social gatherings. It so happened that I was at a wedding party and my relatives *convinced* me to join the giant dancing ring ( you know that slow moving mass of people thrusting their hips, waiving their arms, pretending they are sexy beasts with their wives). Stupidly I joined and danced ( I thought I was good, until I watched it on a phone camera). I must say, I felt like I had made a fool of not only myself, but also of my Sikhi saroop. It was a very weird feeling, like an intoxication of some sorts ( I wouldn’t know about any real “intoxication”). That remixed bhangra tune “may captain bhangray da, tuu gidhian di raani”, a mass of intoxicated people, me with Guru ji’s Sikhi saroop………..oh God! I seriously , and I mean seriously, felt like I had stepped into a hell.

Maybe if I had been dancing with gursikhs, with some non-sexual music, my experience would be different. But the “family” dancing that I’ve experienced is not a very pleasant experience if you have some Sikhi in you.

I still don’t know, maybe you can dance with family and friends without making it hellish. You will need to remove sexual music, revealing clothes, alcohol. Maybe then the dancing can be in all fun. I don’t really know.
