totally understand what ur saying satpreet bhenji  :@

Why waste time somewhere where they are talking different language and not explaining anything??

However, ppl use what you said as a common excuse.....but they forget that....before they went to skool or university they didnt know much abt their course. However...due to the EFFORT they made to learn the stuff....they understand it now. Similarly with Gurbani...we need to make an effort to understand it and not use excuses such as....'they talking a different language'. :umm: but its a two way thing....and ur right...the gurudwaras shud use the money they collect alot more wisely rather than investing in decorations, new kitchens...buying more property which the local gurudwara i attend is guilty of

I agree that it takes effort/practice to learn something thats why we got skools. BUT in skool we got professors who are teaching us. In the gurdwara theres no one really teaching anything. I think theres a difference. In skool we got teacheres explaining stuff but in gurdwara they don't explain anything.

EXample: this sunday my dad went to gurdwara. Every year this family has akhandpaath in February in memory of their dad I think and the morcha he was involved in at Nankana Sahib back in the day. The hazoori raagi jatha got their turn first. They juz sang their shabad and thats it....no explanation about it, and no explanation as to what this akhandpaath is for since most ppl don't know what happened that time at Nankana Sahib, how the battle went down, who got killed, what was the role of this family's dad in that event....NOTHING. They juz took got their money and they were happy.

Its like the teachers don't wanna teach. How we supposed to learn then?

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh

We had an Akhand Path recently and some babajis were not reading paath clearly so my mum told them to read louder. They were so pleased and spoke to the sangat after the bhog saying that they had met so many families where ppl were not interested in listening to paath so they thought it was ok to not read aloud. But now they were so happy that they met a family that was not having an Akhand Path done for the sake of it.

Then there was the kirtan, the singhs were so amazing they explained everything they said and B4 they sang they told a short story everytime and it was so amazing, they had the sangats attention big time. It was funny and great to see the sangat saying Waheguru Waheguru and matha teking so many times during the kirtan. Waheguru did kirpa there big time.

They were not going to do kirtan like that but do the normal way which means only singing kirtan, but had a brief conversation with my mum b4hand and they were so happy about my mum's pyar for sikhi that they told her they would cancel their next programme and carry on the whole day at our house.

Now the point of that. I think some of the sangat has given the impression to gyanis that we just want them to do the paath and leave. Gyanis often complain that the sangat does not listen to paath or any sewa but is more or should I say only concerned with the ''guests'' and talking to them about the latest gos.

Its upto US the SANGAT to make changes (preferably for the good). If a person is doing something you disagree with then get up and say it with pyar.

Excellent replies, really has opened my eyes. Over the years, as my interest has increased in Sikhi, i have met tonnes of Chardi Kala Singhan and Singhnia they have an unbelievable rehit. Personally i think everyone should play a part in encouraging Sikhi, dont know which person, but ive seen a member on this forum, i think its Sher_Punjabi, at the end of his posts he has 'Be inspired and inspire others', somethink along those lines. Theres our answer, its not good enough being a saint soldier yourself this age anymore. Everyone needs to make an effort and consider themselves as a leader, touch the soul of other, make someones life happier, i read a quote the other week "SERVE OTHERS AND GOD WILL SERVE YOU". This could be anything, helping someone, use your saintliness to help your mates in depression, take a van and feed the homeless every week. Actually, i got an e-mai from a friend of mine today, i would like to share it, its on the same lines as this topic.

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay

hisway through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was

hungry.

He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost

his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he

looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it

slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?

You don't owe me anything, she replied. "Mother has taught us never to

accept pay for a kindness."

He said..... "Then I thank you from my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically,

but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give

up and quit..

Many year's later that same young woman became critically ill. The

local doctors were baffled! They finally sent her to the big city,

where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the

name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her

at once.

He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save

her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him

for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the

bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it

would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally

she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill.

She read these words.....

"Paid in full with one glass of milk

(Signed) Dr.. Howard Kelly."

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You,

God, that Your love has spread broad through human hearts and hands."

There's a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the

waters comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or

someone you love at the least expected time. If you never see the deed

again at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after

all, isn't that what life is all about?

We as Sikhs, need to be the woman who gave that glass of milk to Horward, God will work miracles for us!

Remember one thing “Pakkay Sikhs can build pakkay Gurdwaras but pakkay Gurdwaras cannot make Pakkay Sikhs”

87011

If Pakkay Gurdwaras are made by Pakkay Sikhs, and Pakky Sikhs can help others onto the right path, then how can a Pakka Gurdwara not make a Pakka Sikh?

I do not think it is sikhi that is weak, it is the followers that lack faith and conviction.

87131

Definitely. Those that don't follow should not be called a sikh, because frankly they are not. I for one won't even name my son/daughter a singh/kaur until I know he/she is one. People use names that have no significance anymore.

due to lack of above mentioned points, we lack a strong leader. Theres lots of jathas, but no 1 strong leader. Each jatha has problems with another jatha, so so many jathas isn't helping much.

87203

I believe we have the SGGS, we need no other leader. Before we had the 10 Guru Jee's now we have the Guru Granth Sahib, [he] has replaced the Guru before him who in turn had replaced the Guru before him... and on...

the gurudwaras shud use the money they collect alot more wisely rather than investing in decorations, new kitchens...buying more property which the local gurudwara i attend is guilty of  :umm:

87207

Mine as well, and I also think many g/w's are wasting money on politics.

i just wait till the Guru returns.

87245

but i meant dasam paatshai to return, for sri guru gobind singh ji to return. so they will straighten things out.

87291

The Guru never left us. And I don't believe more will come. After Guru Arjun Dev Jee compiled the GGS, he would sleep beside it on the floor. He gave this much importance to the GGS. Why don't we? Today's children run down to the GGS, quickly put their top-knots to the ground and leave. I mean.... its "matha taikna". And its something you are suppsoed to revere with respect.

Its like the teachers don't wanna teach. How we supposed to learn then?

87288

Honestly, I don't know for certain. But I believe we have to look to each other in these times.

-Bhajneet

The Kal Jug is here, now is when we have to support each other, in times like this.

If Pakkay Gurdwaras are made by Pakkay Sikhs, and Pakky Sikhs can help others onto the right path, then how can a Pakka Gurdwara not make a Pakka Sikh?
the truth is that these days pakkay gurdwaras are being built by pakkay Sikhs which is why we see fights, caste system, elections, fights over chairs etc. furthermore, gurdwaras are not serving the purpose of preaching Sikhi and are being controlled by money hungry people. of course not all but most. just in my city there are over 10 gurdwaras. pakkay sikhs only need ONE. anyways, i think we can argue over it for hours but that is not the point of this thread.
I do not think it is sikhi that is weak, it is the followers that lack faith and conviction.

This is a good point. What I meant was Sikhi within ourselves. Of course Sikhi will always live if not in our hearts then in books but it will always be there. Also, which Sikhi are we talking about here? The one started by Guru Ji? which one would that be? there are different versions of sikhi. Assume that my belief on raag maala is different than yours and in the future there is talk about one Rehat Maryada so one of us will be wrong about Raag Maala. assuming that your belief is correct and mine isn't then clearly my Sikhi is in danger. I personally will go with panth's decision and would change my beliefs but what about those associated with jatha? I don't think they would.

I have heard from so many people that if AKJ and Taksal unite together Panth will be lot stronger and we can liberate Khalistan. I used to believe this but I don't see it ever happening. I personally think that we will have to say goodbye to AKJ and Taksal and all other major and minor groups if we want unity. beliefs of AKJ and Taksal are totally opposite. Even if I assume there will be unity it will never be permanent and if I assume they can liberate Khalistan by putting their differences aside then everyone would want his jatha to be on the top controlling Akal Takhat. There was not a powerful Punjab State until 12 misls system was eliminated. Today's jathas are just like 12 misls and need to be eliminated. After that have Khalsa smagams and rein sabais, united panth can setup santhiya and gatka schools, Sikhs together can do simran at gurdwaras. so keep kirtan katha and simran but not jathas. Have one Khalsa Jatha and that's it. I am sure that when the time comes for Khalsa Raj all jathebandis will unite together as Khalsa but there will not be any other jathas left. I hope I did not offend anyone. This is just what I think. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh
