  2. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2011/20110413/main4.htm Namdhari leader shot dead near Bhaini Sahib Shivani Bhakoo and Gurminder Grewal Tribune News Service Ludhiana/Bhaini Sahib, April 12 Two unidentified persons today shot dead 57-year-old Avtar Singh Tari, a staunch follower of Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji of Bhaini Sahib (about 25 km from here) on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh highway. Based at Mohali, Avtar Singh, belonging to the Namdhari sect, was a frequent visitor to Bhaini Sahib. According to available information, Avtar Singh started from Mohali this morning in his Toyota Altis car. On the way he was followed by three persons on a Pulsar bike. Fearing a threat to life, Avtar Singh stopped at an acquaintance's place near Kohara. After staying there for about 15-20 minutes, when he resumed his journey to Bhaini Sahib, the unidenified persons on the motorbike, who were waiting for him, started firing at him from point-blank range. According to witnesses, the bullets were pumped straight into his chest, head, stomach and thighs and he died on the spot. The body of Avtar Singh was sent to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana for the postmortem. The police recovered 11 empty cartridges from the spot. The Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh, who was camping at Bhaini Sahib till the filing of this report, said, "The situation is under control and the investigations are on. Forensic experts have taken the empty cartridges to find which weapon was used by the assailants for committing the crime". The case under Sections 302/34/120 B (IPC) and 25/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered against three unidentified persons at the Sahnewal police station. One of the sewadars at Bhaini Sahib gurdwara, on the condition of anonymity, said that the deceased is survived by one son and two daughters. "Basically, Avtar Singh belonged to village Amrasaar in Sirsa district and was into the property dealing business. He was a staunch follower of Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji. Though it is too early to say anything but we believe that the murder is the outcome of a personal rivalry. Some sophisticated weapon seems to have been used by the assailants", said the sewadar.

  12. Erm hold your horses everyone. Religious punishment, or excommunication can only be assigned to those who are in Sikhi Saroop, and by that we mean Amritdhari Singhs. Guramit Singh has cut his hair, trims his beard, and as far as Sri Akal Takhat Sahib Ji is concerned he has already turned his back away from Guru Sahib and Sikhi. There is no question of getting someone excommunicated from the Panth when they have turned their backs to Guru Sahib themselves.

  13. Wouldn't it be nice if all Sikhs took all destinations off their holiday lists leaving only the Punjab to visit. And they all went to the Punjab in Groups. You could hire a house in the pends, paying the families rent as there's always empty houses in the pend. This would give them some useful income too. I know we've all got our own pends but sometimes the relatives don't want to explore the Punjab in the same way we do. Land inheritance can also get in the way!!! Could you imagine a load of Amritdharis turning up in a pend! The villagers would feel so happy that their religion was alive outside of the Punjab! Seva could be done at the pend, Akand Paaths and Kirtan and Langars could be held at the pends Gurdwara! Life could be brought back into the pend! For the Amritdharis it would be cheaper than the usual junk holiday in spain and a lot more meaningful too, because, they'd be on the land of their Gurus!!!:waheguru:

  19. i personally would never take my kids anywhere other than Punjab. When British ruled India they always came back with loads of goods to their own homeland BUT we people have forgotten our homeland (although most of us do not live the life British enjoyed in India). by the way I am not against British way of life or goras~(there is a lot to learn from them) but appreciate our way of life very well.

  21. Please sangat ji stay away from the masons!! They might seem that there is no harm in joining them, but their core values are very dark. They recruit people of status and wealth, they suck you in. They are devil worshippers, do a google search on baphomet, and you'll see who the masons worship. Why would we join these secret clubs when we have the Khalsa!!! Bhul chuk maaf.

  22. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that various religious schools would have preaching centres around Harmandir Sahib (including nonSikh ones) in the pre 'annexation' period. I think the Brits must have built a grand monument in the vicinity as some sort of overblown demonstration of their power and 'greatness' in relation to the various competing religions to 'mesmerise the natives'. You know they are prone to this sort of posturing. Would be nice if you could post a picture of this church for us.

  23. I understand about influence creeping in but in the case of the christians this was due to the concerted effort by the christians to convert south indians, this was done in a devious way mingling aspects of hindu and christian culture so as to totally confuse the locals. Much the same way the christains hijacked the pagan festival at christmas. The Sikhi maryadha is different to this. It is a firmly held belief that Guru Gobind Singh Ji in person comes to Hazoor Sahib everymorning, which is the reason only the Jathedar is allowed to do certain things during the early morning as touched upon in the original post. Now, if Guru Ji is present there on a daily basis then how can any outside influence creep into the maryadha? Remember Bhai Gurdas Ji who served the early Gurus with total devotion and his vaars are called the "key" to understanding Guru Granth Sahib Ji never married and was celibate all his life, Guru Ji never asked him to change from this. So yes grist - jeevan is given great value in sikhi but celibacy is not outlawed. Guru Gobind Singh Ji is pavitar pavitar pavitar hence such strict regime in the maryadha at Hazoor Sahib Ji.

  24. There was a time when Guru De Sikh made sure there was no sharab da tekha within a radius of the pavitar Gurdwara or even in the same village of the Gurdwara. Now the manmukhs allow those sarab de tekha in the Gurdwara's properties. The current committee show non-compliance to Sikh principles and protocol therefore should resign. Failing that the committee members such as Ajit Sandhu, Darshan Atwal, Piara Purewal, Jasvir Rai and Anoop Sinh need to be stripped of their involvement in any Sikh activities and the running of the Gurdwara should be taken over by the Sikh community so that Sikh principles are adhered to.

I'm no fan of Islam but getting embroiled in concerns about other people's practices like this can't be healthy. Especially as our own society isn't exactly short of it's own problems that need urgent addressing. Maybe people like you have you priorities skewed?

  29. I think the Hitler comparison is half correct. Hitler was not a Jew murdering fellow Jews on behalf of non-Jews. Manmohan Singh is probably worse, he is a quisling, a person who is willing to have the state deny justice to his own people just so that he can enjoy political power. It is interesting that you keep defending Manmohan Singh for his economic achievements, so tell me how many Sikh lives are worth a prosperous and economically powerful India?

  30. We don't teach our kids about Sikhi because we don't know anything about it ourselves. One can recite 5 banis from memory, but if you don't know what it means then your wasting your time. How many of us can read and understand gurmukhi? Most kids raised in the west don't even speak Punjabi, so how do you expect them to understand what the granthis are saying in the gurdwara? We are suffering from a cultural disconnect with our younger generations. People don't believe in rehat and and nobody understands gurbani because its written in a language that nobody speaks anymore. That's the problem.
