  4. I usually don't post such threads but such issues make me sicken and thought of sending a friendly message to young ones.. I came into sikhi because of akj sangat and i strongly believe that they are one of the main pillar of sikh nation and bhai randhir singh ji jeevani can't be compared with any mortal living in todays world... Same with Taksal jathabandi.. they are our history, present and future.. who gave up so much shaheedi and gurmat giyan whenever panth asked for.. In my views these two are the main jathabandis who are for panth chardikala and pure... Below is one example on how todays youth (mostly born and brought up in west) are not doing any positive for panth unity. Having differences is natural but it takes real sikhi to respect others despite of small differences. If you know someone who has such mentality then please guide them, help them and encourage them not to follow such -ve path. Kissay nuh burra naa kaho..

Baba Thakur Singh jee met up with (late) Bhai Sahib Raam Singh jee, the former Jathedaar of Akhand Kirtani Jatha and they shared great pyaar. Baba Thakur Singh would make Gursikhs sit on his manjaa (bed) and he would do their sevaa. Baba jee showed respect and love for other Gurumukh Pyaare and their Jeevans (spirituality) regardless of small differences in vichaar. Malaysia Visit In the Summer of 1998, Baba Thakur Singh jee and the Jatha Bhindran Singhs travelled to Malaysia. Baba jee talked very little and talked only if necessary. The Jatha Singhs told Baba jee that (the now late) Bhai Sahib Rajinder Singh jee (Dudley), from the Jathedaar of Chalda Vaheer Jatha (and a member of Akhand Kirtani Jatha), who was also visiting Malaysia for Sikhi Parchaar, had come to meet him. As soon as Baba jee heard this he rushed to the door to greet Bhai Sahib. Baba jee had a long conversation with Bhai Sahib, which was quite unusual for him as he talked littled. Baba Jarnail Singh & Joginder Singh Talwara Can Be See, Aswell as other Gursikhs doing Seva Of Singhs Brothers around each other bodies regardless of minor vichaars. 6. http://thelinkpaper.ca/?p=6725 SURREY – Local film company BR Dhillon Productions has launched the film Sant Sipahi, which is inspired by Sikh militant and revolutionary Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and will use actual footage of the late Sikh leader whom many consider a martyr. In March 1984, Punjab filmmaker Sukhwant Dhadda shot extensive footage of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale on 16 mm as an assignment for BBC, because of operation Blue Star that film could not be completed, but footage remained with him ever since. Now that footage will become the integral part of the film Sant Sipahi. The film is based on the teachings of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. When all efforts to resolve a problem peacefully or through dialogue fail, then it becomes the moral duty of a valiant person to pick up the sword and fight against injustice and oppression. The shooting of the film has already begun on 18th April 2011 and will be ready for release by Nov 2011. The film is Produced by Gurdeep Dhillon, Directed by Sukhwant Dhadda ,Music by Issac Thomas and presented by BR Dhillon Production Ltd a Vancouver based Canadian company.

  10. Khalsa Ji I've just recently started using Apple iPod touch 4th Generation and the iPad 1. Both of these devices are fantastic for reading Gurbani. I loaded my own PDF files such as those found on www.gurbanifiles.org like Professor Sahib Singh's Darpan , Sri Dassam Granth bani and I downloaded the Gurbani Anywhere application which is a Godsend. Darpan was very big so I broke it up into ten shorter files. It really fantastic to have Gurbani on devices so one can read it at any time. SGGS is also readable on these devices as padh shedh or larivaar. The clarity is remarkable. The iPod touch charges fully within about an hour but runs down after about twelve hours of perpetual file searching/reading etc. The iPad takes a little longer to fully charge but the charge lasts for many days.

  13. This thing is very clear if we keep on fighting among our self there can never be chardikalla of panth. There will be place occasions when two jathebandis had to stand against each other when it comes to mareyada and this is where the seed of hatered is planted. When such situations come its better to look and enforce view point of Akal takth sahib then fighting. Like with sikh channel. If it shows pro abc jatha program the other jatha people declares it anti panthic and stops its financial help and vice verse. And there are many many situations like this. Thats why the need of hour according to me is full promotion of Akal Takth sahibs mareyada when their is a clash of mind sets. The thing which worries me often is after 20 - 30 years the youth today will be in command of panth and this youth dont have even 1% tolerance of going against the mareyada of its own jatha and if nothing is done right now the time when todays youth will be jathedars parcharaks etc it will be most difficult time for ekta of panth.

  14. Name: Shaheeds Of Poanta Sahib Category: History Date Added: 22 May 2011 - 02:41 AM Submitter: BhaiSukhSingh Short Description: Kirtan By Singhs 11 Sikhs were gunned down at Paonta Sahib (Himachal Pradesh) by the Mahant's henchmen. The sangat of Poanta Sahib had requested Jathedar Baba Harbhajan Singh Ji (the one before Baba Nihal Singh Jee)to visit the Gurdwara. They complained that the residing masand was abusing the Gurdwara premises through drinking, raping women that came alone, and making prostitutes dance inside. After several such requests Babaji decided to visit Poanta Sahib accompanied by 13 GurSikhs. They left, from Gurdwara Haria Welan Hoshiarpur, riding horses and horse drawn carts. When they arrived near Gurdwara Poanta Sahib, two GurSikhs carried Babaji's message for the masand requesting initiation of a Akhand Path at the Gurdwara. The masand did not give a definitive answer, instead assured to respond before the next morning. Meanwhile the masand confided with the local police chief, one of his corrupt friends who endorsed and permitted his evil acts. Babaji started the Akhand Path next morning which proceeded uninterrupted for 2 days. On the 2nd day, the masand came with the police. They arrested Babaji who was outside at that time and fired at the GurSikhs inside, who were conducting the Akhand Path. The GurSikhs had no guns. For they had not come with the intent to fight, but rather to hear the sangat's concerns. As a result they were brutally massacred. Eleven died and two survived. As each Pathi was shot while reciting the Guru Granth Sahib, another simply pushed his body and continued the uninterrupted recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Nihal Singh, 21 at the time, continued with his choar sewa (even when he had been shot 3 times) until the last GurSikh was shot. As the Akhand Path was interrupted, Nihal Singh finally fell. The only survivor was the youngest GurSikh, a 11 year old, who was found hiding behind a nagara (drums). Besides him all others were presumed dead. It wasn't until the bodies were being loaded up in a cart that a small child saw Nihal Singh breath and informed the local sikhs. The local sikhs who had gathered by now, screamed to get him some medical attention. Fortunately they succeeded in their efforts. He received medical attention and survived with Vaaheguru's grace. He was subsequently honored by many gurdwaras as Jinda-Shaheed Jathedar. The masand was finally removed. Akhand paths are held each year in the commemoration of this event. View Video

  17. Excellent thread. I agree with the majority of the suggestions you've made. I will try not to duplicate what you have suggested. Here are some of my thoughts for the future. 1. Regular weekly English Katha on sunday's at all UK gurdwaras. 2.Every gurdwara should have a feedback mechanism where sangat can provide feedback on current services, services which they would like the gurdwara to provide and ideas for improvement. 3. Support groups for- single parents/widows/divorcees. alcoholics/drug users. 4. Improved use of media- facebook, youtube, email, text message, gurdwara website, 5. education- weekly sikh classes, gatka, kirtan, santhiya, free sikh education books to families to learn about sikhi and for parents to teach their kids the basics. 6. Panj kakkars and gutkas should be freely available to sangat 7. cresh/child care facilities 8. support wider non sikh community- homeless 9. gurdwaras should start purchasing farmland to produce their own food requirements, milk, surplus can be sold for income 10. Each city should create a local council of gurdwaras where represantitives meet regularly to discuss local issues, and work together to promote sikhi. perhaps sikh council could organise this. 11.promote healthy lifestyles- Healthy langar, less butter in dhaal/sabji. gym. 12. university scholarships for intellectual gursikhs whom cant afford to go to university to study top degrees 13.Teach all gyanis English, CRB checks on them, purchase accommodation locally for them, Should receive at least minimum wage. Incentive to learn English- bonus/pay rise? Also need to raise caliber and qaulity 14. more bibiya and youth in committees 15.weekly/monthly "challenges" for sangat eg amritvela for 1 month, stop alcohol for 1 month etc. if they know others are doing this they can help each other to persist with it

  20. VaheGuru Jee Kaa Khalsa VaheGuru Jee Kee Fatheh! Thank you for the reply and information ... A GurSikh mentioned this to me but I didn't know what it meant ... When researching on Google I was directed towards Hindu sites and rituals so I'm guessing that the word 'Chaleesa/Chalisa' comes from the Hindi/Sanskrit Grammer ... So the term basically means 40 or to form a habit in forty days? Also, the GurSikh mentioned that sometimes during a Chaleesa one doesn't speak or engage in conversation during those 40 days ... Have you heard this before? I think there was an example referred to in a Katha where a Bibi was severely ill and was guided to carry out a Chaleesa of 5 Sri Sukhmani Sahib Jee de Paath everyday at Amrith Vela for 40 days and finish with an Ardhaas for accepting the Paath, asking forgiveness for wrong doings/mistakes and to be blessed with good health in order to carry out Panthic Seva ... Also, can one carry out a Chaleesa at any time of the day or does it have to be at Amrith Vela and can the Jaap be as long or short in form i.e. Long Jaap of Sri Sukhmani Sahib Jee and/or Short Jaap of Sri Mool Mantar Sahib Jee? Any further advice/information will be greatly appreciated! Sri Akaal Jee Sahae!

  21. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! The main reason for doing chaaliya/ chaleese is to form a new habit e.g. amritvela, incresing nitnem etc. However, they are also done to achieve specific goals or wishes or for health etc. In brief, you're meant to make an asaan e.g. a chaadar or cloth in a clean place, keep some water close by, light a jyoth and dhoof/samagri. Do ardas and start the jaap. Should be started at the same time exactly everyday for 40 days. The first 2 weeks will be the hardest, then it begins to become a habit and gets easier. Not easy, but with Guru Ji's kirpa, it's possible. Best done with the guidance of a Mahapursh, or someone who's done them before. Akaal Sahai!

  23. You're right. What we need to understand then is why the use of aunkars disappears after the 1750s, and then, why it appears as if Prof. Sahib Singh rediscovers lots of grammar rules that seem to have been largely forgotten by the early 20th century? So it seems (tentatively speaking) as if there was a simplification of Gurmukhi around 1750s, but this was not a complete loss of grammar understandings. Schools are mentioned teaching Gurmukhi grammar by Leitner in 1882, so it survived till the Sikh raj and even after. Some books describing the etymology of words in Sikh scripture seem to have existed according to the article linked to by BhagatBalmik: The question of why the grammar that was unveiled by Prof. Sahib Singh has come to be regarded as monumentally significant comes to the fore. Maybe his (no doubt western influenced) systematic approach to interpretation far exceeded previous attempts to 'decode' Gurbani with strict reference to grammar rules? That being said, when I read Macauliffe's earlier translation of Japji Sahib, it doesn't seem too different from the Professor's exposition? Maybe the Professor through his rigid systematic application made concrete, that which was only loosely understood after the mid 1700s (grammatically speaking)?? What you do you think?

  25. First, As per Sarbat Khalsa gathered @ Sri Akal takht Sahib in 1986, we (sikhs) all need to be Pro-khalistan or Pro-punjab (whatever name we call but our akal takht gathering declared the need of independent homeland). Second, Sri Akal Takht is the only place or institution that serves the purpose of our Home base. Sri Akal Takhat is the only place in our history that all sikhs gathered and made decisions and stood united. Even Raja Ranjit Singh came into power because of Sri Akal Takht Sahib (sarbat Khalsa gathering of sikh misls). Sikhs need to clear their negative doubts about this institution. It is the like of Sarna (congress backed) and other non-sikhs like darshan ragi who are trying their best to break sikh sangat away from Sri Akal takht Sahib so that Sikhs stay leaderless in future and never get united at one place. It is also these ppl who are spreading false fear that sikhs stopped claiming Guru Granth Sahib as our guru and giving more preference to Dasam Granth. While at the same time these pakhandis Third, To those who are born/raised abroad and never been to india except making 2 or 3 quick trips should keep quiet as they have no clue about sikh culture, language dialects, living standard and history of Punjab. Without that you are nothing and can't do anything up there (far away from leading or participating in any movement). Some of our enemies are sikh too.. i am talking about ppl whom you see in khaki uniforms in punjab and the day you change their mind, will be the day khalistan will be made. In order to do that you have to be extremely familiar with punjab. Fourth, Movement without People support is DEAD. If we want to bring change then we need people support. Bring change in punjabi society, open/teach/sponsor young ones.. Give them a chance to learn about sikhi before stuffing something-they-do-not-understand down to their throat. Majority of Sikhs of punjab brainwashed by false indian history for the past 60+ years. Hard way to bring change but we all opt-out for simple short term goal.

  26. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Veerjeo, To do Sava Lakh chalisa, one needs to have about 8 hours a day fixed for jaaps if we want to do them with prem and bhagti bhavna. A total of 3125 Mool Mantar Sahib Jaaps a day which is 29 maalas (108 beads) a day. Please do ardas in the lotus feet of Maharaj before you start and full body+kes ishnaan before starting, have a clean white cloth underneath, sit at a fixed place everyday, purify the air by having nice dhoof etc., try to be in Lotus or Half Lotus position as much as you can so that birti can be maintained Try to focus on the third eye while doing jaaps if you are doing Jaaps for spiritual benefits. Practice Brahmcharaj when doing Chalisa. Mahapurashs also say that one should have water nearby too, for water absorbs all the good vibrations and becomes amrit after you are done for the day. This sewa is normally given by Mahapurashs, of course we can do it ourselves with bhagti bhavna too It is a very big task so keep praying for more surti and kirpa on physical body because mann will start playing tricks on you after a week or so ('headaches', 'body aches', etc). These are just mind's tricks to lure back into the world of maya, so ardas is most important May Waheguru Ji keep holding you hand in this task! Gurfateh jeo

  27. No offence, but these Gurmukhs shown above were progressive Gursikhs with Kamia, they were Mahapurshs'. In my view what we have to today are self-appointed, self-promoting, non-deserving, wannabe leaders in each corner. Today, just to see the sub-splits within splits of both DDT and AKJ show that these groups are only surviving off the bhagti of their predecessors’. When we desreve ekta we are blessed with ekta when we deserve disunity then we will suffer disunity.

  29. Not talking about religion or spirituality Why dont you try and get a job and if its hard to get one spend next 6 months developing a skill which can get you a job. If you start today at the age of 27 years and 6 months you will have a job... If you keep blaming on bad luck it will continue. If you say you can or you cant both things are true. Brother if a person cant find a job thats not bad luck in 99.99 cases but it shows the lack of hard work unless you wear banna ( look different ) Better start doing it now and take your life seriously. Develop a skill which can get you a job. And what ever hours you are sleeping reduce them to half.

  30. The following translation is from Gurpratap Suraj Prakash Granth and discusses the nature of Shaheed Singhs [martyrs]. It starts off by Piara Daya Singh, Piara Himmit Singh and Piara Mokham Singh asking Guru Gobind Singh Ji various questions about Shaheeds. Shaheed Gen Labh Singh (KCF) ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਕਲਗੀਧਰ ਥਿਰੇ, ਸਿਦਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਤੀਰਾ । One day Kalgidhar [sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji] was sitting with his faithful [sidhki] Sikhs. ਮੁਹਕਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਰ ਦਯਾ ਸਿੰਘ, ਹਿੰਮਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਧੀਰਾ । [Piara] Mohkam Singh, [Piara] Daya Singh and the content [Piara] Himmat Singh were also present ਇੱਤ੍ਯਾਦਿਕ ਕਰ ਜੋਰਿ ਕੈ, ਅਸ ਗਿਰਾ ਬਖਾਨੀ । At that moment all three of them folded their hands and made the following supplication, 'ਸ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਹਮੈ ਬਤਾਈਐ, ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਅਨੁਜਾਨੀ ॥੪॥ "Oh Guru Ji, please enlighten us on a topic we have no knowledge of. 33. You need to find out what the olympic torch really represents, and how it is an occult ritual. It has nothing to do with spirituality or God, or Sikhi.

  34. The torch is the ritual. Find out what it means. It would be like asking a Sikh to pray to an Idol, absolutely disgusting if you really knew what the torch symbolises. Don't do it, Sikh's should be known for their actions as Sikhs, not for partaking in stupid rituals. You want the PR of being a good little conformist, and a sheep to Britain, who tortured our ancestors? I've got nothing against the athletes, just that the olympics event, is a mind programming exercise for the world. All this would do, is show TPTB that Sikh's have also been brainwashed, and just do what everybody else does. Without questioning, why? Why is the torch lit? What does it actually mean? But instead you want people to mindlessly follow it. Look i know you had good interests with this thread, but the olympics is nothing like most people think it is. Its not about sports and competition, its about diverting your attention, from things that matter.
