  1. n30 singh, just suppose what are saying is true that these sants did wear jewellery, well did they ever talk about the fact they were wearing it, why etc? if these are simply the conlcusions you have drawn from just seeing them wearing jewellery, then they are simply that, your own conclusions. Unless you have any quotes from the sants you have mentioned we have no reason to believe that they agree with your reasoning, simply because some pictures show them wearing something. By the same token there are some sikhs who it would seem would call Guru Sahib kattar, superior fanatic for giving any hukam which does not fit in their hippy happy world! You see the problem with this approach is that it assumes that one actually knows something or has the ability to 'work towards passing the exams'. The fact is none of us know anything, we have no giaan and we have no way to even try to comprehend what Gurmat is. All we can do is in very childlike form attempt to follow everything our master tells us to do (even this we can't do). Anything else, any thoughts any reasoning any philosophical (fokat) analysis of our guru is as a matter of fact our ego. Lets have a look at a sakhi demonstrating the fruit of childlike innocence. Bear this in mind, no one ever has and ever will reach Vaheguru through any action of their own. Union will happen when Guru Sahib gets pleased with us. This can only be achieved through earnestly attempting to do everything he tells us to do. And when we do this there will be nothing left out as his hukam is perfect and all encompassing. Bhai Bela Ji was a Gursikh during the times of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He came to Guru Ji and asked if he could stay at Anandpur Sahib. Guru Ji consented so long as Bhai Bela agreed to partake in Seva. He was asked what form of Seva he wished to partake in, such as, langar seva, recite Bani or join the Guru’s army and fight in the battlefield. Bhai Bela replied that he could not cook, read Gurbani or knew how to use shashtars. Thus Guru Ji assigned Bhai Bela Ji the duty of looking after the horses and their stables. At the same time Bhai Bela Ji would be taught Gurbani by Guru Ji. Guru Ji started by teaching Bhai Bela Ji one line of the JapJi Sahib per day. Bhai Bela Ji would spend his whole day, whilst fulfilling his daily chores, repeating that same line. The following morning he would recite it back to Guru Ji to make sure that he had memorised it correctly, and thus he could progress and go on to learn the next line. One day, Bhai Bela Ji came to Guru Ji ready for his next lesson. However Guru Ji was busy and was preparing to go out. Just as Guru Ji was about to leave, Bhai Bela Ji got in the way saying, “Guru Ji, I am ready for my next lesson. I want to learn the next line of JapJi Sahib.” Guru Gobind Singh Ji replied, “Bhai Bela, na vakhat veecharai naa veyla” meaning, “Bhai Bela, you are not considering the circumstances I am in; I am busy and must go out.” Yet Bhai Bela Ji was so innocent and obedient, that he understood Guru Ji’s comment to be the next line of the JapJi Sahib and spent his whole day practising the phrase. When the other Sevadaars heard Bhai Bela Ji, they started laughing and began mocking him. But Bhai Bela Ji ignored them and continued reciting the phrase, eager to learn it well so that he could please Guru Ji the next morning by reciting it correctly. The following morning when Bhai Bela Ji went to meet Guru Ji, the rest of the Sevadaars had gathered there as well. They wanted to see Guru Ji get angry with Bhai Bela Ji for incorrectly reciting the JapJi Sahib. However, when Bhai Bela Ji recited the line “Bhai Bela, na vakhat veecharai naa veyla,” Guru Ji instead got up and embraced Bhai Bela Ji. Guru Ji said, “this is what a true Sikh is. He does not allow his own intelligence to get in the way of his Guru’s words. He believes his Guru’s Bachan to be 100% true and does not consider his own intellect to be above that of his Guru’s.” Too often we judge ourselves to be cleverer and more knowledgeable than our Guru. Bhai Bela Ji sacrificed himself entirely to the Guru’s words. He was so innocent, subservient and obedient that he placed his faith entirely in the Guru’s Bachan, forsaking his own mind and intellect. May Guru Ji bless us with such pyaar, sharda and faith to forever live according to His Hukam, which is conveyed to us through His Shabad. 2. Due to political correctness of the modern world homosexuality was taken out of the lists of paraphilias in the early 70s because homosexuality began to be widely accepted by the mainstream American society. This is a case of science being influenced by political correctness. Homosexuality is a sexual deviation no doubt. Some sexual deviations like padophilia, necrophilia are banned while some like homosexuality are allowed. For argument sake, let us say for example that two consenting adults(same sex) want to have a sexual relation with each other, according to you it is okay. Does that mean that incest should also be approved? if a brother-sister, father-daughter, mother-son want to have sexual relations with each other just as long as they are adults is that okay? if not then why is homosexuality okay for you while incest is not? Gurmat does not agree with everything modern American society does. Ask any Sikh scholar or Mahapursh, no one will agree with homosexuality as being inline with Gurmat. Marriage in Sikh tradition is only between man and woman, not man-man, woman-woman, human-animal, elderly-child, brother-sister etc.

  3. I never take non-punjabi speaking person seriously if we are in a group talking about core Sikh issues.. Regardless how panth dardi or panthic you are, if you do not try to learn, speak or write our mother language then my friend you are not serious about Sikh issues. If we are not proud of our boli then I don't know what we are... Excuse me those who say all languages are same and it doesn't matter for a Sikh not knowing punjabi. Language is foundation in order to learn about our culture and history.. surely books are translated but reading it in our own Gurmukhi lipi is another raas.

  4. Brother, let me please be clear that I am in no way advocating that gay people be persecuted to be considered lesser human being because of being homosexuals. SGGSj is the ustat of Akal Purkh. SGGSj is not like semitic holy books which says what is right and what is not on worldly matters. For example SGGSj remains silent on pedophilia, necrophilia, zoophilia, incest as well but it does not mean those various paraphilias are accepted in Gurmat. Similarly homosexuality is not accepted if one were to see the life and teachings of Sikh gurus, Bhagat Sahibaan or Mahapursh from puraatan to modern times. The Akal Takht has given it's verdict on homosexuality and it clearly states that a marriage can only occur between man and woman not same sex. You can follow the ways of the world or follow Gurmat. A Sikh is suppose to bend himself to fit into SIkhi not bend Sikhi to fit into their preconceived notions.

  5. Khalsa Ji Some interesting and thought provoking comments in the video. Yes Gurmat accepts the state of tyagh (detachment) for one to become a Khalsa. Gurmat also insists on the tyagh of ego in order to become a Khalsa. When one individual refers to other individualsa as monkeys then does this conform to Gurmat?

  7. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! We have been working on a new app called iGurdwara. It is currently made for iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and Android devices. It will be available on other devices (Blackberry, Windows Phone 7) soon. The app should be complete and submitted to the app store by 1st July 2011. However the android app, even though it is made shall not be released for a while, the reason being is because I haven't got an android device to test it on at this moment of time, and do need to test it for bugs/errors, screen sizes and etc. This app will locate the nearest Gurdwaras to you, so say you have gone to a different town/city, you can view the nearest gurdwaras to you. You can even search for Gurdwaras near a place before you go to that area. Each Gurdwara will get their own profile on the app, the Gurdwara's will be able to send people (if they wish to receive them) push notifications of the events to there local Gurdwara. So for example, if you wanted to stay up to date at what's happening at your gurdwara, you would subscribe to your local gurdwaras profile and every time they have an event you will get an update, for example if there is a camp happening at your local gurdwara, it will pop up on your screen letting you know there is a camp happening. You don't need to have the app open to receive these notifications. You can also listen to live audio from your local gurdwara if they have it, (if they dont have it and wish to have it then please contact me and we can set it up for you). Please view the video below for a quick demo of the app so far, please note it is not complete yet, however please give us feedback if you would like certain features added or if you want things changed in the app. Also please contact me if you would like to be a beta tester for this app and all future Sikhee based apps, we currently have 5 other apps in development which we shall give info on in due course, however if you would like to help out then please do let me know. Please view the below video, a better video shall be made soon once the final version of the app is made, the final video shall have a voice over and describe the app in full detail. (View pictures of the app on Facebook here: http://www.facebook....100002110308711 ) More info: http://www.TatKhalsa.com/apps/igurdwara/ So basically please give suggestions and criticize to the max to the app can be improved, also please submit new app ideas! Thanks! Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa! Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!

  13. Some people have no problem with incest, but there are laws against this kind of behaviour. Is this not discrimination? Homosexuality is no different than incest. People are attracted to a lot of manmat stuff and rest of humanity need to help them out of their deviant behaviour, instead of humanity going down to their thinking. Compassion does not mean letting a person commit a wrong action. Compassion is helping people relief themselves of their deviant behaviour.

  14. REHAT surmwidk iSMgwr nihN nihN pr qrunI sMig suramaadhik shi(n)gaar nehi nehi par tharunee sa(n)gi Do not wear make-up or jewellery. Do not commit adultery. Rehatnama Bhai Daya Singh Jee Why go on opinions, when we have, Guru Roop, Punj Pyare telling us not to wear it. There is no discussion here. If someone thinks they are higher than Bhai Daya Singh ji, then God help them and give them enough humility to understand Rehat is more dear to Satguru than a Sikh. Keep doing Naam Simran, there is no point on wasting time on these very pointless discussions. Those that have done Naam Simran are very content with this Hukam and those who have not.......well they will bicker because their ego tells them to follow Babas and not Satguru and his Rehat.

  16. We all know that one person who spends 30-40 minutes on his dastar, trying to make it perfect in every way. Aren't they doing this to make themselves more attractive, and increasing their ego? Now you might say, well Satguru told us that we are kings and our dastaar is our crown, so it should be perfect. In reply to that can't I say that kings also wear jewelry? The point is that I think many things can be used to enhance ego. Even wearing a large kirpan and full Bana can be used to increase your ego. Now if I recognize that Dastaar is my crown, and spend time on it making it perfect because I know it is my crown and Satguru's gift, then there is nothing wrong with that. Similarly if I wear jewelry because I feel that I am a king and kings should end decorated, then I think that is something similar. Like many other posters above me, I don't wear any jewelry, and I'm not trying to defend wearing it, but I just want to explore these issues instead of suddenly responding without thinking. I would love to hear what others think about this

  17. Then we have Prem Sumarag Granth shows khalsa can be raja jogi with jewel braclet, jeweled ornament on guru maharaj special gift- our turban. I am not saying the above quote by bhai dya singh ji or contents of adorned jewelry in prem sumarag granth are incorrect. I am sure they are both correct. It makes perfect sense if we look at things from context of gurmat is two sided coin as i mentioned earlier both raj jog khalsa and bairaagi tyaagi khalsa are well accepted and aligned with gurmat. They are plenty of live examples mentioned above. I totally agree with Mokham Singh. That monkey comment was not called for. Only reason i can think - while most punjabi sikhs were supportive of bhai harbhajan singh ji yogi attempt to spread sikhi abroad, there were handful of them who were quite jealous of him and start spreading nindya (quite expected), kind of same attitude of our people when they turned away millions of dalits from taking amrit.

  18. Puratan Khalsa tradition is also to ensure the mother to be has open darshan of shastar in her house every day. This familiarises her and makes her comfortable with shastar and also creates love and respect form them via daily nit-darshan. The continuous exposure also gives rise to bir ras, all of these emotions are absorbed by the child.

  20. Adding Guru Gobind Singh Ji's name to an oil refinery is insulting. If it were clean energy and is for the benefit of the environment and the people then I think it would be acceptable in honor of the teachings of the Guru Sahibs. I wonder what kind of waste management plan they have in Bathinda. The highest cancer rates in India are in the Bathinda region already. A fast train goes to the south straight from Bathinda to a cancer research center.

  21. I can read punjabi and understand most of it. But I can't speak it very well. When I was young that was the only language I knew, but now... I feel sad often that I don't know my own language. Recently I've been doing with the poster above me does, writing down punjabi words, watching punjabi movies, going on dictionaries....almost the exact same things. But it's not that my parents didn't teach me, it's just that once I started going to school, I stopped speaking it. And now I want to, but it's just sooo awkward suddenly talking in punjabi to my parents again. So what I do is that I try to speak in punjabi to myself. I tell myself stories and talk to myself about my day in punjabi. It's really weird, but it has improved a lot recently, but I have no one to correct me if my grammar is wrong or something. What would be really great is if some people on here with webcams and stuff would be willing to work with others who don't know punjabi. Just talk to each other in punjabi for like 30 mins a day. That way we can all work together to end this problem
