  2. we tried spreading awareness by designing and printing Bhai Rajoana T Shirts and sold them on cost price and then ended up paying around $700 from our pocket rather than contributing to Bhai Sahib's family. We Still have T shirts left if anyone is interested. Our aim was to send profits to Sikh Prison Welfare but we couldn't do anything.

  6. Source: http://www.sikhsiyasat.net/2012/08/10/aftermath-of-wisconsin-tragedy-indian-media-attempting-to-fabricate-facts/ Aftermath of Wisconsin tragedy: Indian media attempting to fabricate facts By Gurtej Singh Published: August 10, 2012 Ludhiana (August 10, 2012): Indian state system, now days, is pretending to be very worried about Sikhs, especially for those living in United States in the aftermath of Wisconsin tragedy. Media, as a part of state system, is also following those lines. Three days back some unknown National Akali Dal burned flag of United States and brandished swords in front of US Embassy. Indian media have extensive coverage to this demonstration. Images were published in front pages of many newspapers. Sikh diaspora as well as large of Sikhs in Punjab and India ridicule this demonstration but the news was almost ignored. An analysis of certain sections of Indian media’s reporting about the Wisconsin tragedy shows that two points are specifically embedded: firstly, that Indian State and government is very worried about safety/security in United states; secondly, that the Sikhs, including Sikhs in United states are very angry against United States. Photo published by IBN7 on August 09, 2012 – It is alleged that this is the photo of protest carried by Sikhs in US against Wisconsin Gurudwara Shootout But this is the Photo Published by Sikh Siyasat in April 2012 – Sikhs protest against Kamal Nath in United States As regards second point Indian media lacks any factual report if we leave apart the alleged demonstration by so-called National Akali Dal in Delhi. In United States Sikhs are getting support from all sections of American society. Even as a symbol of national mourning the flag of United States is lowered to half hight till August 10. Sikhs are holding candle light vigils to remember the victims and every vigil eventually turns to be inter-faith vigil as people from all faiths are participating. Sikhs in United States are generally satisfied with the quick and effective response by American system including Government, police, society and media after Wisconsin tragedy. So, in this situation Indian media has started framing imaginary demonstration against US by Sikhs living in United States. Fabrication and distortion of facts seems to have become a pet style for Indian media. IBNlive.in.com published a news report on August 9, 2012 with title: “US Gurudwara shooting: Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal meets injured, appeals for peace”. Along with this news report a photo of alleged demonstration by Sikhs is also published. The photo caption, that appears on Photo when you put cursor on image reads that: “Sikhs in US carry out protest against shooting incident at gurudwra in Wisconsin”. It is worth noting that no such protest has taken place. Even the image itself shows that the protest was not against US or against shooting incident rather this is image was taken during a protest held against India for denying justice to victims of November 1984. This protest had taken place in April 2010 when Indian minister Kamal Nath, an accused of Sikh Genocide 1984, was visiting Untied States. Sikh Siyasat had published a detailed news report on this protest and the alleged photo protest against Wisconsin incident (according to IBN’s claim) was also published by Sikh Siyasat on April 09, 2012. Title of news published by Sikh Siyasat was: “1984 Massacre: Sikhs protest against Indian Minister Kamal Nath in US“. Even the photo itself speaks about the purpose of demonstration as the in this photo protesters could be clearly seen as holding pla-cards with text: “Charge the guilty – November 1984 Sikh genocide”; “Police Common[...] committed massacre of Sikhs – November 1984 Sikh Genocide”; “Justice delayed is justice denied – November 1984 Sikh Genocide”; “Join for justice – November 1984 Sikh genocide” and “Punish the guilty – November 1984 Sikh genocide”.

  8. http://www.slate.com...t_lessons_.html One of the best articles I read in terms of telling who SIkhs are by Kevin B. Lee. He talks about his experience with Sikhs and how he fell in love with the dharam despite having glasses of cynicism and criticism of organized religion. He comes from a Christian background who part took in missionary activities in China. Please click facebook tab on the article and twitter bar after you've done reading it. Each like and share you make on facebook and retweet = an undefined amount of awareness. Please do it and help spread awareness about who you are! Make sure you read the article as well, it's great.

  9. veer ranjit singh , so why do we allow pnjabi kids who are born to sikh families to marry in gurdwaras.... I agree sikhs should read SGGS in its entirety (something I Am currently doing) to grasp gurmat ... My solution is to ask the couple to practise a shabad for like 2 months on tabla and harmonium and sing it on the day of their wedding .... music is a very powerful force and being a part of sangat (regardless of their background) - will eventually nudge them (the couple) towards a sikh lifestyle

  10. Since it's not the good old days anymore, we can't carry rifles guns where ever we go. But we can use what we have on us. Our kirpan is a weapon. The kara can be used as a weapon similar to brass knuckles. I have seen some guys getting a little more improvised by using their belt and swing it against their opponent like in the following video. So that is 3 shastars we can always have on us. Of course the Kirpan should only be used as a very last resort if one's life depends on it. Now it is up to us to practice everyday with what we have on us. A Sikh should be so tough that he should be able to take on multiple opponents. We should not try to take Panga with anyone, always try to resolve the matter peacefully. But if all matters fail then it is justifiable to give them a beating they will remember for life.

  14. During hardship or times of persecution Sikhs tend to get more religious and marshal. This happened right after 84. But as the freedom movement died down Sikhs became less religious and also lost our marshal quality. Maybe the recent shootings of Sikhs can ignite something positive in Sikhs in the west. Maybe this can make us think outside of the comfort zone and bring us back to our roots. We need to come back to our Dharm and also start to get more marshal and by marshal I mean get self defense training and make yourself physically and mentally tough as our forefathers were.

  16. Sikh Temple shooting victim profiles August 8, 2012 by Katie DeLong Source: fox OAK CREEK — Six were killed Sunday after 40-year-old Wade Michael Page entered the Sikh Temple and opened fire — before police fatally shot Page outside the temple. Amardeep Kaleka, the son of Satwant Singh Kaleka created the below profiles, describing each of the victims. Amardeep’s father, Satwant, was the temple’s founder and president, and is not included below. View the picture slide show here Prakash Singh (age 39) Prakash Singh was born on November 1st, 1972 and was from New Delhi, India. He was known by his friends and family for being a very caring and hard working man. He emigrated to the United States in 2005. He is survived by his wife and two children. He reunited with his family just 45 days ago. A priest at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin for about six years, Prakash Singh had gone to India in June, returning with his wife, 11-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter. Prakash Singh had been in the United States for about nine years but received his green card six or seven months ago. He had been staying in the living quarters at the temple. After reuniting with his family, Prakash Singh was preparing to move. A priest may only live in the temple alone, not with family. Prakash Singh had just found a new apartment to share with his children and wife. Sita Singh (age 41) Sita Singh was the younger brother of Ranjit Singh and also was from Dalu Wala Majpata village. He moved to New Delhi after completing his education. He was known as a tough and dedicated man who was very easy to talk to. He is survived by his wife and four children. Priest Sita Singh moved here from New York City about six months ago to serve the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin while another priest was gone. He was shot and killed along with his older brother, Ranjit Singh. Sita Singh was dedicated to all aspects of the temple, cutting the grass on the property and trimming the bushes. He led morning services every day about 5 a.m., according to temple member Jhalman Singh. Sita Singh lived in the temple where his brother had once served as a longtime priest. Ranjit Singh (age 49) Ranjit Singh, from Dalu Wala Majpata village, moved to New Delhi after he completed his education and moved to the United States in 1997. He was an active member of his community, committed himself to volunteer work and played tabla during religious ceremonies. He is survived by his wife and children who currently reside in India. Ranjit Singh’s son was seven months old when Singh left his home in Delhi, India, and came to the United States, according to report byNDTV, a New Delhi-based media company. The boy, Gurvinder, hoped to see his father for the first time in 16 years when Singh returned to Delhi in November to celebrate the Indian holiday of Diwali, the station reported. Singh played the tabalas, a type of drum, during prayer services at the temple. He worked odd jobs on weekdays, sending what money he could home to his wife and son. Paramjit Kaur (age 41) Paramjit Kaur Toor was the only woman killed in Sunday’s shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. She was the mother of two sons, ages 18 and 20. She was a weekly presence at the temple. She came to pray and to prepare food every Sunday for the shared meal. She and her husband — nicknamed Inder — and her two sons emigrated from the Punjab region in India about five years ago. They lived in Oak Creek. She and her sons returned from a trip to their homeland a couple of months ago. Suveg Singh Khattra (age 84) Suveg Singh Khattra was born on July 6, 1928 in Patiala, Punjab, India. Suveg made his living by farming and decided to emigrate to the United States in 2004 with his wife Nachittar Kaur to live with his son Balijinder Singh Khattra and daughter in law Kulwant Kaur. Suveg was a strong and devout man who was very devoted his gurdwara (temple). He will be remembered by those around him for his punctuality in everything he did. He is survived by his five children and seven grandchildren. Suveg Singh held a key role at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin. He provided fellowship. He would ask cabdrivers about their families or offer an uplifting scripture passage. Suveg Singh, who lived with his family, was known to come to the temple early in the morning and stay through the evening, sometimes as late as 7 p.m. “He knew some of my relatives. He used to talk about how life has been,” said Manminder Singh Sethi, a dentist in Brown Deer. “He was really happy.”

  19. Guru Roop Pyare Sadh Sangat Jio, WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa, WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh! I wanted to share an apology that was given to me from an American this morning at London Liverpool Street Station. As I came out of the station I heard someone call "Excuse Me Sir", initially I thought I may have dropped something, but then when I heard the accent I realised what this could potentially be. He started off by apologising for the approach out of the blue - He obviously recognised me as a Sikh - My Guru Ji'sblessed Sikhi Saroop (My Dastar and Dara Parkash). "I am very sorry to hear of what happened in my country and I would like to apologise to you (Referring to the shooting at the Gurdwara saab in Winconsin)". Initially I was taken back and he also looked a bit worried not knowing what my reaction would be. My Immediate reaction was to Thank him and I put my hand out shaking the gentleman’s hand. He finished off by saying "Have a Blessed day". It was a great feeling to have been recognised as a Sikh and then for the apology. Who says that Sikhs cannot be recognised? Guru Maharaj gave us this Sikh Saroop for a reason and I experienced that today - Khalsa mero roop hai khaas. Pull Chuk Maaf Karni. WaheGuru Ji Ka Khalsa, WaheGuru Ji Ki Fateh!

  20. Because ultimate test is staying in the pool of maya and still be nirlaip (free-de-attached)- Gurmukh maya vich udasi pointing towards raja janak..it's fine and dandy when someone shun this world to work towards their spirituality but when it comes to test of maya, thats what it counts. Gurmukh being in pool of falsehood and temporary- world illusion and still be de-attached, its not only because its some sort of test but true gurmukh naturally get bairaag and prem - two main wings to across worldly ocean- after seeing falsehood of this world and world illusion-maya. Real Gurmukh is not someone who have nothing ( by force to have nothing) and is bairaagi (they haven't done the real test yet) Real Gurmukh is someone who has everything both asthohol maya and shukhsham maya (maya vich udasi) but still bairaagi for milaap with vahiguroo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1. Remember your death all times, you will naturally remember Vahiguroo and be de-attach from this world. I remember Vahiguroo ji in narsingh avtar killing harnakash, no one can escape death. 2. Keep doing ardas to Guru Maharaj to bless us with concentration naam simran, bless us with baraaig, nishkham seva, prem and advait (non duality) 3. See tat(essence) of everything, everything cease to exit...do your worldy duties as part of your karam or family obligation but don't be attached to it..!! 4. Keep doing vichar at all times. Vahiguroo gave human bibek buddhi (intellect- biggest power) to discriminate- take good and leave bad. Divide your mind in two (intellect- make your intellect as the boss) and mind (dog), whenever vulnerable dog start wandering- let your intellect (boss) bring back the dog to its base by starting right away to do vichar with bibek buddhi- Man tu jot saroop hai apna mool painchan || ( that you are not body, mind - rajo/tamo/sato or five koshas(sheats), you are not jagrath, supaon, sukhopat )- your real essence - gyan saroop atma-paratma ....you will notice slowly infront of yourself- your perception of this world will automatically change..!! Eg: Even when you have to do bhog with your spouse - unavoidable circumstance as who wants drop of water/ anand from glass when there is maha anand- ocean out there!!!!!!!!!, look at your own self or perception very carefully and honestly with your bibek buddhi, if your perception is based on western standards of bhog birthi (fullfilling your desires), without any question you are kaami you are slave of panj choor, but if your perception is sabh gobind hai sabh gobind hai and showing affection then its fine he/she comes under- "sabh gobind hai sabh gobind hai" then your mind is becoming part of higher dristhi kaun (perception) of sabh gobind hai. Same thing applies with moh attachment with kids and money(just earn for survival of family- nothing more and nothing less)..there is big difference between attachment and universal love..once you intuition start becoming more and more advait (non duality) your will find yourself away from attachment but that does not mean you don't love your kid ..there is nothing wrong with universally loving your kid as (he/she parts of universe). Bairaag and prem are two sides of same coin, they are main wings of Gursikh who wants cross the worldly ocean. Bairaag (de-attached) from this world - individualistic human body/mind and its illusion, at the same time- prem/love universal real essence of human and the whole creation of vahiguroo which is non dual/super consciouness- Vahiguroo atma paratma !!!!!!!!!!

  22. my suggestion would be to hold an akhand paath at your house, preferably with a lareevar saroop of guru granth sahib ji maharaj. have high avastha, rehatvaan gursikhs do the paath, if possible have keertan done at your house by similar gursikhs, and have a panj gursikh ardas for removal of all problems. jaaps of any paaths like sukhmani sahib and jap ji sahib followed by ardas are also a good idea. also all your family should wear sarbloh kare and kirpana and do nitnem and ardas everyday. ang 817-818: ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ Bilāval mėhlā 5.
