  4. What a wonderful man, and I'm not just saying that coz I'm a Sikh. I'd say it too if he stuck up for a Hindu's religious principles too. Such men are rare. Deserves all the credit coming his way. Can't read Punjabi so don't know the full details but if someone could paste a photo of the man I would be most grateful. Would love to see the face of such a wonderful man.

Shame on QSF!!!Dont forget your racist backyard comments FIFA statement on head covers (FIFA.com) Friday 14 June 2013 Share © Foto-net FIFA has sent a letter to the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) on 13 June 2013 to inform the CSA that: Following communication between the CSA and FIFA, the matter related to Law 4 The Players Equipment, the use of head covers and the situation arisen within the CSA has been presented to the members of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) for discussion. The IFAB has exceptionally agreed to extend the conditions of the current experiment previously approved by IFAB in October 2012 (as per FIFA circular no. 1322, see PDF on the right hand side), and to allow male players in Canada to wear head covers as well, as long as the following conditions are respected: The head cover must: be of the same colour as the jersey be in keeping with the professional appearance of the players equipment not be attached to the jersey not pose any danger to the player wearing it or any other player (e.g. opening/closing mechanism around neck) The letter sent by FIFA to the CSA on 13 June 2013 authorises the CSA to permit all players to wear head covers as described above, in all areas and on all levels of the Canadian football community. 8. it's a tool to help you focus, but you don't have to use it. just say or repeat mentally the mantr once (or more times if you want, do the same # repetitions per bead), then move the mala forward by one bead. if the mind wanders and you didn't concentrate, then don't move it forward. it is also to help ensure consistency. if we use a mala then we know we did 1 mala of mool mantr, for example. if we just guess then it will probably be a lot less b/c the mind is tricky like that. it's easiest when held between the two front fingers, the forefinger and index finger.

  9. On FB i read about this Incident once again after many years and it brought back all the memories when this had happened and Sikhs had been made proud -- I think it was in 1998 or 1999. In city of Babina (MP, India) , there was a Sikh Armoured Regiment and day was Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Shaheedi Purb. This Regiment had all the Sikh Rangroots ( new- recruits) in it. Singhs were doing Chabeel-Sewa outside Gurudwara and some Singhs were making Parshade in Langar. A Hindu Army Officer came and had chabeel and came inside Gurudwara in Langar where Singhs were making Parshade on Tavi ( large Iron plate used to make parshade) He asked what day is today ? Singhs replied it is Shaheedi Divas of Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj. Officer asked Who was He ? A Singh explained to him about Maharaj's Shaheedi and how Guruji sat calmly on Burning Hot Iron Plate. Office said -- IMPOSSIBLE. This cannot happen. How can a human being sit on Hot Plate and stay calm ? Listening to this -- One Singh who was doing Parshade di Sewa and was reciting Sukhmani Sahib got up and sat on ''Tavi'' on which Parshade were being made. He sat there on tavi, smiled and said '' Guruji sat like this Officer''. Hindu officer screamed and said get him down get him down. Singh was taken off the Tavi. His clothes, body parts had been burned but he was smiling. He said officer, Never doubt Our Guru in front of a Sikh. His spirit still pervades in us. Our Guru can do anything. 10. Apologies, i was looking for a topic which discussed ways of doing parchar in gurdwaras but couldnt find one, so have started this. Here are some photos from our local gurdwara, on how we can do parchar in a non-invasive way. We have had a lot of people use this literature stand. We basically made it ourselves, it cost us about £100 quid, cos the committee wouldnt pay for a new one, which would have cost about £250 (this was in 2005-ish). The response has been amazing, and lot of literature is being taken. We have 37 facings on this stand, although we have over 280 articles with a very wide range of subjects. Below, this is a new venture, we were lucky in that these exhibition boards were being discarded, as some offices were be cleared out, and we managed to get these off them for free. They can be purchased in the UK for about £70 ish pounds. We have been preparing an exhibition on monthly historical events that arent well known to younger Sikhs (i know, I know, some of you are thinking, "well that would be most things...)" and using the month as the theme to show them. In March, we did "The Rawalpindi progrom against Sikhs, in 1947". In April, we did "The annexation of the Lahore Kingdom". In May we are going to do, "The Smaller Holocaust". If anybody wishes to start these in their local Gurdwaras, then as long as you get the hardware, we can send you the literature to use electronically. If you are lucky and your committee is helpful in buying new stands/boards etc, then that is great. Show them these photos, and see what they think.

  11. CHANDIGARH: The Pakistan government has decided to declare 'Panja Sahib' a holy city and would initiate efforts to sort out all issues related to the welfare of the Sikhs living at the pilgrimage site. This was stated by the President of Pak-Indo friendship association and legal consulate ministry of interior government of Pakistan Arif Chaudhry, during his meeting with the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal here, an official release said here. Panja Sahib is believed to house a rock having the hand print of Guru Nanak, founder of Sikh religion, and is a popular pilgrimage spot for Sikhs across the world. Chaudhary also invited Badal to Pakistan to attend a function organized by the Association on this occasion, the schedule of which would be finalized as per his convenience. Accepting the invitation, Badal said that he had always championed the cause for further strengthening bilateral ties between India and Pakistan through opening Hussainiwal and Fazilka border that would give impetus to trade. He hoped with the formation of the new government in Pakistan, the bilateral relations would further improve and new business and cultural exchange avenues would be worked out through promoting people to people contact programmes. The Pakistan official said that the forum would also try to sort out all issues related to the welfare of Sikhs living at Panja Sahib. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/pakistan/Pak-set-to-declare-Panja-Sahib-as-holy-city/articleshow/20590054.cms

  12. The part in the article where it said: "Perhaps it was his kindness that did it, but I knew it was time to break the Sikh code of honour. This dictates that you should never say anything negative to your parents about the family you’ve married into, particularly if you’ve had an arranged marriage. " "Sikh code of honour"? where in the Rehit Maryadha does it says that? sometimes the media adds this type of stuff even if the person they are quoting hasn't said it. It's unfortunate that this lady was murdered. Such people like the Mother in Law should be shamed.

  15. Jadenbliss Jee, if someone is less knowledgeable about Sikhi, why would Sikhs disgrace such a person? But if a person from another religion would come here and try to question Sikhi whilst showing superiority of his religion then obviously Sikhs will defend their religion and show the difference and uniqueness of Sikhi. In any case, Sikhi is not a part of any religion. It is a unique and separate religion. Not all religions born in India are part of Hinduism. Just as Buddhism, Jainism were born in India yet are distinct religions from Hinduism, so is SIkhi. All the religions born in India have their similarities, but they also have their differences.

  17. Sikhi isn't a part of Hinduism. In the 80s not only did the UK government recognize Sikhs as a separate religion but also a unique race. Khalsa was created to uproot tyranny in all the ages to come. The martial tradition began from Dhan Guru Nanak Sahib and he passed down knowledge via baba Buddha ji to Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib. The traditions of the Khalsa began during the 6th Guru of martialiality and being a saint soldier to defend against tyranny.

  18. Your basic concepts are in itself wrong.Sikhism was not created to put an end to forceful conversion of Hindus to Muslim. Sikhism started with Guru Nanak Dev Jee, and it is from here your study has to start (if you are any serious, else if you have other intentions), the false and dubious preachings of Pandits/Brahamans/Mullahs of that time, message of Guru Nanak to all via Dhur Ki Baani - GURBAANI. You have a point when you say so many religions. Even if we have to reach a destination in today's world, there are multiple paths which even maps show, so what's an issue about multiple religions? Your concern seems to be particularly about why SIKHISM has come out as a religion, as it has been a concern to various other religious preachers in other religious institutions etc. whose bread and butter, which used to be on dubious religious preaching came to an end. Why there was a need for a new religion to fight against Aurangzeb? Who told you a new religion was created to fight against Aurangzeb? I am just wondering if you are too naive to understand the basics of Sikhism and don't know the roots of Sikhism, or your intentions are different. If we take your argument that Sikhs were created to stop for Hindus to becoming Muslims; why were Sikhs created then, were not Hindus able to defend themselves both spiritually and physically to convert to Muslims, which implies they lacked both spiritual and physical strength to convert to a different religion! . This means becoming SIKHS gave them some special spiritual power with which they were able to accept death but not convert to a different religion. . The above argument of spiritual power and its applicability to stop of conversion is just one application of this spiritual power. This spiritual power via DHUR KI BAANI - GURBAANI AND GURU KI SEWA is strong, it stops conversion to any other religion, it takes you direct to Akal Purakh "One GOD", provides you with CHARDI-KALA "Win" in each and every goal you set up for one's daily life. IT IS NOT EMOTIONALLY BLACKMAILING, THEY KNOW THE HISTORY HOW WEAK SPIRITUALLY WEAK HINDUS WERE NOT EVEN ABLE TO ACCEPT DEATH AND ACCEPTED THEIR RELIGIOUS CONVERSION, AND HOW TO BECOME SPIRITUALLY STRONG SO EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE WEAPONS TO FIGHT, ATLEAST ACCEPT DEATH BUT DON'T ACCEPT OTHER RELIGION.

  23. New cornea layer named after Indian Scientists have found a previously undetected layer in the cornea and named it after the Indian researcher who made the discovery. The findings, by researchers from the University of Nottingham in UK, could help surgeons to improve outcomes for patients undergoing corneal grafts and transplants. The new layer has been dubbed the Dua's layer after professor Harminder Dua who discovered it. The human cornea is the clear protective lens through which light enters the eye. Scientists previously believed the cornea to be composed of five layers - the corneal epithelium , Bowman's layer, the corneal stroma, Descemet's membrane and the corneal endothelium. The new layer is located between the corneal stroma and Descemet's membrane ."Ophthalmology textbooks will literally need to be re-written ," Dua, professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences, said. 24. There were 5 elect Sikhs from the beginning if u study ithiaas in depth. Manifestation of Khalsa. Part 6. A closer look at Abul's report reveals many events which were pre-planned by the Guru. Of course the first and most glaring event is the demanding of five heads. Why five? One may wonder. A closer look at Gurmat reveals that the Gurus did a majority of their important work in fives. Five Banis, five kakkars, five khands and five Singhs. The names of the Guru's five Singhs represent the virtues which a Khalsa must imbibe. Daya means compassion. Dharam means righteousness. Mokham means piety. Himmat means courage. Sahib means Sir in the english sense. Only he is a sahib in the lord's eyes who has mastered the above four virtues. Five Singhs however were not an exclusive creation of the Guru alone. They had been prevalent from the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Dev Ji's panj pyares or five beloved ones were: 1.) Bhai Mardanna. 2.) Bhai Bala. 3.) Bhai Ajita. 4.) Bhai Lalo. 5.) Bhai Lehna. Guru Angad Dev Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Budha. 2.) Bhai Paro Julka. 3.) Baba Amardass. 4.) Bhai Paida. 5.) Bhai Sadharan. Guru Amardass Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Budha. 2.) Bhai Paro. 3.) Bhai Malhan. 4.) Bhai Balu. 5.) Bhai Jetha. Guru Ramdass Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Budha. 2.) Bhai Bidhi Chand. 3.) Bhai Teertha. 4.) Bhai Dharam. 5.) Bhai Guria. Guru Arjan Dev Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Bidhi Chand. 2.) Bhai Gurdass. 3.) Bhai Pirana. 4.) Bhai Paida. 5.) Bhai Langa. Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Bidhi Chand. 2.) Bhai Gurdass. 3.) Bhai Behlo. 4.) Bhai Kalyana. 5.) Bhai Bhallan. Guru Har Rai Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Suthra. 2.) Bhai Feru. 3.) Bhai Dargah. 4.) Bhai Bhana. 5.) Bhai Bhagta. Guru Harkrishan Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Dargah. 2.) Bhai Gurbaksh. 3.) Bhai Gurditta. 4.) Bhai Sant Ram. 5.) Bhai Gurdas. Guru Teghbahadur Ji's pyares were: 1.) Bhai Gurditta. 2.) Bhai Dyala. 3.) Bhai Uda. 4.) Bhai Jaita. 5.) Bhai Mati Dass. All these Singhs were initiated into Sikhi by the tradition of Charan-Pahul amrit which was changed by Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Khande-Bate-Da-amrit.

  28. We don't subscribe to what you see as "idol worhsip". Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is our Guru. We do utmost Satkar of Guru Jee and we make no apologies about it. Sikhs have been following a Maryadha for the upkeep of the sroop of Guru Granth Sahib jee for hundreds of years. Guru Jee is not some book that we put on a shelf. Doing Satkar of Guru Jee is our is our Farz(duty)I. Then how can we take Guru Jee to a place which serves Sharaab and Kabaab? If this seems like idol worship to you, then so be it. You say, "respect guru granth sahib teachings by practising them", my dear friend, no Sikh who practices Sikhi would have written what you have written here in the first place. Because a Sikh who practices Sikhi does utmost Satkar of Guru Jee and cannot tolerate beadbi being done of Guru Jee. First follow your own words of practicing Sikhi instead of lecturing others.

  31. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!! A new management committee (sevadaars) were chosen by the Guru's Sangat on Sunday 21st April 2013. Our agenda is to take Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick back to its former glory and promote Guru Nanak's message as much we can. We now have approx 8 halls at the Gurdwara, with many other rooms, including a lecture theatre and many other facilities... ...BUT whats the point of having them when they are empty most of the time? Our agenda is to fill those halls, which will only happen when parchaar is done and Sangat which are sat at home or broken away from Gurdwaras come forward and participate in the Gurdwara. Sometimes we have illitrates running the Gurdwara's who sometimes dont even know what day it is. We want the younger generation to come forward and participate in running and mananging the Gurdwara. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the Sadh Sangat has entrusted us with the seva, we would like to ask our local youngsters to come to the Gurdwara and bring forward new/fresh ideas in how we can make the Gurdwara a better place. Sometimes there are accountants, solicitors, barristers, architects, te What the Sangat wants the Sangat gets! Whether its complaints or suggestions please come forward. Participate in Gurdwara seva, see who does what, how is the Gurdwara run, get involved! A breakdown of the Gurdwara finances will be available online for you to view what income and what expenditure has been made at the Gurdwara Sahib to show total tranparency in the Gurdwara accounts. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! It is Sangrand today beginning of the new month..... Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji blesses us with the following Hukamnama for this month. HUKAMNAMA FOR THE MONTH OF AASAARH Friday 1st Aasaarh (Samvat 545 Nanakshahi) ... English Translation : BAARAH MAAHAA ~ THE TWELVE MONTHS: MAAJH, FIFTH MEHL, FOURTH HOUSE: ONE UNIVERSAL CREATOR GOD. BY THE GRACE OF THE TRUE GURU: The month of Aasaarh seems burning hot, to those who are not close to their Husband Lord. They have forsaken God the Primal Being, the Life of the World, and they have come to rely upon mere mortals. In the love of duality, the soul-bride is ruined; around her neck she wears the noose of Death. As you plant, so shall you harvest; your destiny is recorded on your forehead. The life-night passes away, and in the end, one comes to regret and repent, and then depart with no hope at all. Those who meet with the Holy Saints are liberated in the Court of the Lord. Show Your Mercy to me, O God; I am thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. Without You, God, there is no other at all. This is Nanak’s humble prayer. The month of Aasaarh is pleasant, when the Feet of the Lord abide in the mind. || 5 || Friday 1st Aasaarh (Samvat 545 Nanakshahi) Don't forget to go Gurdwara Sahib today...... There are Kirtani's, Katha Vaachak Sant Baba Hardev Singh Ji Lulo Wale, Dhadi and Kaveeshar programmes all day long..... I would say that although emphasis has been placed on physical disrespect, many other forms of disrespect are rife and because of their subtlety, often harder to combat. I would hope that my brother above would alter his derisive response if he knew he was speaking in the presence of any Kaur in one of the aforementioned situations. I would also say, that disrespect is not just a problem between Singhs and Kaurs, but between all brothers and sisters, as this forum too often shows us. vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh
