  1. Bharat Mat Darpan - Mahant Ganesha Singh A detailed guide to over 200 different religions and sects of India. It was written earlier, I think maybe sometime between 1830-1870, but then republished for a second time in 1926. This is the second publication. It has a history of Nihang Singhs, Akalis, Khalse Panth, Kabir Panth, and many many others. edit: Updated link

  2. After kids at school saw this picture the racism I was facing decreased a lot. People started to act like turbans were a normal part of society (unlike before when they thought it was an abnormal thing). We need to have more Singhs in the media like this. Life gets a lot easier for younger Sikhs in high school when goray see people like the GAP Singh.

  4. Film Shooting to be banned inside Golden Temple by SANJEEV SINGH on NOVEMBER 23, 2013 In a meeting held yesterday, Singh sahibs have taken important decisions on few issues. Film shooting will be entirely banned inside Golden Temple premises. However, Religious documentaries can be allowed, but will require a prior written permission from SGPC. Another important decision has been taken regarding some Gurudwara management committees allowing chairs or benches to be installed for the elderly or differently abled inside Gurudwara premises.. Terming this practice as disrespect of Guru Granth Sahib, Jathedar Gurbachan Singh said, Gurudwara committees can install chairs benches outside the Gurudwara hall and not inside the hall where Guru Granth Sahib is installed. In another decision, Gurudwara management committees cannot have Patit sikhs (those who cut hair) as member of the management. Only Amritdhari and Sabat Soorat Sikhs can be members of Gurudwara management. Issuing fresh guidelines regarding Nagar Keertan, Jathedar Akal Takhat Sahib, Singh Sahib Giani Gurbachan Singh said that it has come to notice that in some Nagar keertans, the Palki of Guru Granth Sahib is left behind and whole Sangat goes ahead. Terming it as disrespect, he said, Only Panj piyare, Panj Nishanchi and Gatka party should move in front of Guru Granth Sahib. Rest of the Sangat should be behind Guru Granth Sahib and they should move singing Gurbani all the way. Other Singh sahibs present where Giani Iqbal Singh, Jathedar Takhat Patna Sahib, Giani Mal Singh , Jathedar Takht Keshgarh Sahib, Giani Jot inder Singh, Hazur Sahib, Giani Jagtar Singh , Head Granthi, Harmandir Sahib. 5. You've got me confused here :stupidme: Do you mean that some of us maybe more gurmat (say 90%) compared to others (say 80%) ? OR Do you mean that ONE person's gurmat is NOT another persons, or One's gurmat is another's manmat ?

  6. Sikh Channel: "A special interview with Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa. A freedom march was held in Mohali on 14 November 2013 demanding the release of Sikh prisoners who, having served the sentences handed down to them, are still being confined in Indian prisons following which, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa began his hunger strike in protest of the blatant injustice and double standards used against the Sikhs. There were many supporters around Bhai Sahib including children from the Shaheed Bhai Fauja Singh Trust (Amritsar) and the mother & sister of Lakhwinder Singh Lakha - currently still in prison having served more than a life sentence. Bhai Sahib has entered his ninth day so please do Ardas for his health and well being and pray that his actions do not go unheard."

  8. Biggest proof they are not Satguru is this. If they are Satguru they will have all Bani memorized. I doubt they even have Nitnem memorized, forget Panj Granthi. May Guru Jee(the real Satguru Ji) give these nakli Dehdhari Gurus some SuMat so that they realize their mistake of misguiding people and eventually come back to join the Khalsa Panth.

  11. None of this will surprise anyone aged above 11 years old from the United Kingdom, but it's always refreshing to hear it from one of the most senior members of the government. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10469448/Corruption-rife-in-the-Pakistani-community-says-minister.html Corruption in parts of the Pakistani community is endemic and a growing problem that politicians have underestimated, the Governments chief legal adviser has said. Dominic Grieve QC, the Attorney General, said ministers should wake up to the threat of corruption in public life, which he attributed to minority communities that operate a favour culture. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Mr Grieve praised the integration of minorities into British life, and pointed out that corruption can also be found in the white Anglo-Saxon community. But he said that the growth of corruption was because we have minority communities in this country which come from backgrounds where corruption is endemic. It is something we as politicians have to wake to up to. Mr Grieve said he was referring to mainly the Pakistani community but added that other minority communities had similar problems. His remarks could affect Britains relations with Pakistan. In 2010 David Cameron refused to apologise after he accused the country of exporting terror. Ministers are aware that high-profile stories involving child abuse, Islamist extremism, slavery and corruption in the Pakistani community are being used by far-Right agitators such as the English Defence League to stir sectarianism. Mr Grieve, the MP for Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, has a sizeable South Asian community in his constituency. I can see many of them have come because of the opportunities that they get. But they also come from societies where they have been brought up to believe you can only get certain things through a favour culture, he said. One of the things you have to make absolutely clear is that that is not the case and its not acceptable. He said electoral corruption in particular had increased. He identified Slough, Berks, as an example of where abuses had occurred. In 2008 a Tory councillor, Eshaq Khan, was found guilty of fraud involving postal ballots. Earlier this year the Electoral Commission announced it was considering introducing ballot box identity checks in Tower Hamlets, east London, in an effort to stamp out electoral fraud in areas with large South Asian communities. Asked if he was referring to the Pakistani community, Mr Grieve said: Yes, its mainly the Pakistani community, not the Indian community. I wouldnt draw it down to one. Id be wary of saying its just a Pakistani problem. He added: I happen to be very optimistic about the future of the UK. We have managed integration of minority communities better than most countries in Europe. Tory ministers have avoided singling out particular communities over political corruption. However, in 2010, Baroness Warsi claimed the Tories lost three seats at the general election as a result of voter fraud within the Asian community.

  13. Guru Granth Sahib Ji to be translated into 13 languages Tribune News Service Ludhiana, June 18 The Guru Granth Sahib Seva Mission has taken it upon itself to translate Guru Granth Sahib into 13 prominent Indian languages so that people across the country can follow the path shown by the Gurus. The translation and publication of the granth is being undertaken so that the translated versions are ready for publication and distribution on the eve of the of 300 years of installation of the holy book as the Guru of the Sikhs in 2008. Mr Gurinderpal Singh Dhanaula, chief sevadar of the mission, said many people from other parts of the country had urged them to undertake this exercise as the reach of the granth was universal and they were facing problems in reading the holy book. He said they were encouraged when the granth was successfully translated into Urdu by Baba Ravinderpal Singh of Talwandi Sabo. They then decided that they would approach prominent regional scholars to get the granth translated into 13 prominent languages. He said the granth would be initially translated into Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Oriya, Tamil, Telugu, Sindhi, Malayalam and Sanskrit. The next phase would be to get it translated into major foreign languages, he added. Work on the Oriya and Tamil versions was underway and was being done by Dr N.C. Panda of the Sambhalpur University and Kannan R. of the Madurai University, respectively. Mr Dhanaula said initially they would get 5000 copies each of the granth printed in Urdu and Hindi while 1,000 copies each would be available in rest of the regional languages. Besides, they would also get 5 lakh copies of Japji Sahib published in Urdu and Hindi while 1 lakh each would be available for the people in other regional languages. Commenting on the financial implications of such a massive project, he said while the SGPC has not even bothered to reply to their letters, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee chief Paramjit Singh Sarna has assured all possible help while offers were pouring in from various religious and social organisations across the country and abroad. Similarly, Capt Amarinder Singh had also promised help for the project and the Central Government too has assured that they would chip in financially and otherwise, he added. He said others who are helping them include former Gurdwara Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Bhai Manjit Singh, Dr Kharak Singh, Dr Brijpal Singh, Dr Dharam Singh, Dr Kehar Singh, Prof Jasbir Singh, Founder Principal, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh Gurmat Missionary College, Chaunta, and others. He also added that they had written to various universities across the country to recommend names of scholars who could undertake the task. He said boarding and lodging arrangements for the visiting scholars had been made in SAS Nagar.

  14. Yeah I agree. The disabled and elderly should not be denied darshan of SGGS. Anyone who is fit shouldn't sit on the chairs. Maybe sangat or comitee members should tell them to stop sitting on chairs.

  15. I think disabled people should be accommodated since they are physically unable to sit on ground. But others should not be allowed to sit on benches and chairs. New trend has started since the last decade where so many Gurdwaras in the west are installing chairs and benches in the hazuri of Maharaj. Chairs are there for disabled people but 99% of the people I have seen using them are not even disabled. They are normal and physically have no problem sitting on ground, yet they sit on chairs. Look at this picture: As you can see the women in the back sitting on those chairs are normal and from the looks of it are doing chuglis in the Hazuri of Maharaj while only one woman(3rd from left) is disabled which is why she is sitting on a wheelchair. But the other ones are just sitting on chairs for no reason. This is why chairs and benches should not even be in the Hazuri of Maharaj. Perfectly normal people start to take advantage of these facilities. Only the real disabled people should be sitting on chairs.

  18. I agree with what you are saying your questions are good and I would address them but they require such a huge write up. If I write a few sentences explaining your questions then I don't think it would make any difference in understanding for both of us. When and if I get time I would love to explain myself further as each question in itself is a whole new topic.

  21. When I say mind I mean a collection of thoughts and life experiences that they have gathered from birth. Each individual has different life experiences and different thoughts as they are brought up differently that causes them to form different principles from each other. We accept they looked different because of their varied genetic make up but why can't we accept they had different thoughts, temperament and ethics? As well as differences there were also similarities.

  23. Yes, I can read between the lines that you only support Badal and Saini because they are not against Dasam Granth. You care less that thousands of Sikhs are languishing in jails and shaheed Singh families are without food. As Sant Baba jarnail Singh ji Khalsa bhindrawale said our main fight is against injustice that has been done to Sikhs.

  24. Johny101 ji You are not getting essence.I said that accepting money for bringing in people illegally is lacking in morals. That negates Guru sahib's teachings. Daduwal knew what Ragi and missionary promoter stands for. Banning Dasam bani is the most serious issue.Imagine if such people get hold of akal takhat. They will destroy sikhi. So daduwal should shun such agents of anti sikh forces.

  25. Such weapons have been used in treta yug and dwapar yug . Thar desert (Rajasthan) is the proof of its use. This weapon in the form of atomic bomb will surely be used but one thing to be noted is that whenever this weapon was used there was an avatar in physical form to reduce the deadly effects. Now in kalyug there are some mahapurakhs who have shifted the events of world war 3 and are reducing itd deadly effects with their kamai. Mahabharat marked the end of dwapar yug and kalyug started after it. Similarily world war 3 will be the end of kalyug and will mark the beginning of 14000 year golden age (satyug) within kalyug.

  26. A very debatable issue ! I have not researched or looked into this with depth, but for us beginners, i think we should primarily accept Guru Maneyo Granth ''Sri Guru Granth Sahib' as the eternal shabad guru and also the writings of Guru Gobind Singh ji in dasam bani, as well as Bhai Gurdas and Bhai Nand Lals works. Also note that Guru Arjan dev ji compiled all the pothis together as one(adi granth) and this included many works collected by Nanak ji, such as the bhagats, from what Guruji chose to include as bani on the basis of gurmat. Bearing this in mind, for example, we know that Kabir has many other works that kabirpanthis follow but are not and were never classed as bani or gurmat by Guruji and therefore were not included in Sri Guru Granth jee. Maybe, some of the better learned members can advise a little clearer and explain where there are doubts with other works of Nanakji................ Read Sidh Ghosht bani.( a conversation-dialogue with yogis and Guruji) You have to read it slowly and thoroughly, because at first it can easily appear as if Guruji rejects the practice heads on. However, after careful vichaar and consideration, you should find that Guruji primarily rejects the idea of being a renunciate and hiding from society. He gives us the message that one can still be living a grihisti jeevan, but finding and connecting with the Lord from within. It doesn't matter where the yogi sits to meditate, because it is deep within the nucleus of the heart that the true yoga or Union is found. This can be done in working society as a householder. My simple answer is NO, he is not against Yoga, but has different views on the actions of some of the yogis....no doubt ! Personally, I think that one of the most important qualities of sidh ghosht is that Guruji does not claim that they are not enlightened. He respects, talks to them without any doubts of their enlightenment. The rest is for you to interpret and find your own personal essence from it.

  27. I don't know about this. But is this really an issue to create a fuss about? It's not like he's smuggling drugs. If he's helping people come abroad what's wrong with that?I know plenty of poor punjabi folks who have come to the west like that and are now living a good respectable life. My family have helped one individual using methods I would rather not mention here because if we didn't, that person would not qualify to come abroad and would have had to live a poor existence without any prospects of employment back home in Punjab. We're not Goray. We're Punjabi immigrants ourselves. Almost everyone of us has a relative or someone we know who has come abroad using unconventional methods in order to escape an existence of poverty back home Veerji, she is an adult. If she was under age, your objection would have been valid. But she is old enough to know what is good or bad for her. She and her father approached for the Rishta and Daduwal accepted. What does it matter for their age difference? they are both grown up adults and have mutually consented to a marriage ਜਬ ਮਿਆਂ ਬੀਬੀ ਹੋ ਰਾਜ਼ੀ ਤੋ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਕਾਜ਼ੀ? It's not like this is something out of the ordinary. Many of our people have age differences. A relative of mine and his wife have an age difference of 20 years. He was a widower of about 50 years and she was about 30 years old when they got married. My grand father and grand mother had a difference of 11 years. My Mama Jee and his wife have a similar age difference. If the girl is under age I would fully agree, but if they both are consenting adults then it's not even an issue.

  28. Jeeo, Do you mean same thinking of gurmat 100% - i.e per rehat maryada ?? There will always be differences - we are to live and respect them equally as khlasa.Sikhe is most natural dharm ever in this world which looks for perfection in this way and that. Next time you come across an acre of flowers or apples - ask and take a look do they all grow the same way and have the exactly the same kind of shine in all OF THEM? It's not nature's way to all the same way.

The stories I hear of Sikhs in America do put me off. I know it probably doesn't happen a lot, but it is a bit off putting. Has anyone been to these universities, or live near them? How is the area and are there Sikhs in the area?

  32. A Sikh man in the US will receive USD 50,000 as compensation to settle a religious discrimination lawsuit against a car dealership in New Jersey for denying him a job for maintaining a beard. Gurpreet Kherha had filed a discrimination charge with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and a lawsuit in 2009 against Tri-County Lexus, where he had applied for a position as a sales associate and was qualified for the job. EEOC said after the car dealership requested Kherha to shave his beard, he refused to comply due to his religious beliefs. The dealership denied him the job, the agency charged. According to the lawsuit, Tri-County Lexus had a "no-beard" policy for sales and administrative personnel and it strictly enforced its dress code policy without granting reasonable religious accommodations. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Kherha by rights group Sikh Coalition and the EEOC. Under the settlement reached in the case, the car dealership would pay USD 50,000 to Kherha and the firm has been urged not to discriminate on the basis of religion in future. Tri-County has also entered into a two-year consent decree with the federal government under which it is required to undertake a series of "remedial" measures including revising its written policies and procedures prohibiting employment discrimination and providing anti-discrimination training to employees and management. It is also required to post a notice regarding the resolution of the lawsuit. http://www.financialexpress.com/news/sikh-man-to-get-50000-in-religious-discrimination-case/1197289

What are the charges per picture? And what is the guarantee that maximum damage will be caused? I promise to send more pics once we see results. We can then work out deals where you will get order in bulk and can give Sikhsangat members a flat rate discount as well perhaps? Thanks!

They took a break from their daily life and went to watch the movie and I don't see anything bad in this.. The reason they are fighting for this because they don't want any other Sikh to go through the same. they are doing this religious freedom and moreover, Singh was racially profiled as he wore a big turban on his head. Instead, blaming them for going to movies ( which is not taboo in Sikhi), we must support them as this can happen to us anywhere and anytime Last time I went to see " Monster University" at cinema with my son does that make me a bad Sikh?

  43. i'm so glad you made this point before I did...i've never understood why Guru Ji cannot be translated if it was already done under the command of Dasveh Paathsha Ji. before everyone does interject i think if the ruling from Akal Takht is not to then fine, but I think the translations and phonetic translations ought to be made. I know that had they not have been, I would never have learned paath and probably wouldn't care about sikhi today. I believe the translated versions should be in Gutkeh or Sehnchiya but not the embodiment of Guru Ji and people ought to treat them with infinate respect but bow only to the one true Guru. I feel that many of the worlds problems could be solved and also think that if sikhi is to survive it must expand. people who would otherwise never have heard the words of our Guru ought to be afforded the same opportunities as we have been.

  44. Our guru granth sahib is a living guru... and surely you remember that all our living gurus traveled the world and SPOKE to the inhabitants in their own language. Its insane to demand that everyone has to learn only ONE language to understand SGGS... our gurus tried their hardest to break down all barriers to spread their knowledge to the world. That means that they travelled as far as they could go, they spoke as many languages as they could, they invented gurmukhi originally to prevent only a small minority (i guess that would now be "punjabis") from hogging all the gurbani. Gurbani is for everyone, and translations are essential. If someone gets enough of a translation that inspires them to "go back to the original source" then thats fine, and that's their kamayee, but we should be trying to fulfil our gurus mission of getting gurbani out to everyone, everywhere.
