  1. Ruqan-ud-Deen: The Sikh Martyr of Guru Nanak Period Col Dr Dalvinder Singh Grewal Recently new facts about Qazi Ruqun-ud-Deen of Mecca Mosque, a devout follower of Guru Nanak have come to light where he has been stoned to death on the order of Ameer of Mecca because he followed and propogated Guru Nanak’s teaching instead of Islam Name of Ruqun-ud-Deen appears in 3 Janamsakhis: Puratan Janamsakhi (pp.105-107) (1), Janamsakhi B 40 (p.66) (2) and Janamsakhi Bhai Mani Singh (pp. 379-389) (3). In a recent paper by Prof. Himmat Singh (4) details of Ruqun-ud-Deen also appear in three recently located manuscripts ‘Syahto Baba Nanak Faqir’ (1509 AD) (5) written by Taj-u-deen Naqshbandi, Twareekh-i-Arab’(1505-06 AD) (6) written by Khwaja Zain ul Abideen and Gunitusalehin (1506-07) written by Abdul Rahman.(7) According to Puratan Janamsakhi, Ruqun-ud-Deen was a Qazi and was present at the famous Mecca mosque during Guru Nanak’s visit to Mecca. Reaching Mecca, Guru Nanak slept keeping his feet towards Qaba. Ruqun-ud-Deen asked him not to do so since feet should not be towards God’s home. Guru Nanak asked him to move his feet to the direction where God is not present. Qazi Ruqun-ud-Deen caught Guru Nanak’s feet and moved. In whatever direction he moved Guru’s feet the Qaba followed. Astonished Ruqun-ud-Deen kissed Guru’s feet and asked his name and held discussions with him. (1) Details of ‘Makke di Goshat’ are given thereafter in which Guru sang his hymn ‘Yak arz guftam pes(i) tu dargos kun kartar’. (Mahla 1; Tilang, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, p. 721). ‘Syahto Baba Nanak Faqir’(5) whose writer Taj-u-deen Naqshbandi had joined Guru Nanak’s party from Iran and recorded daily movements of Guru Nanak, wrote about this event as well. According to him, Guru Nanak moved from there to the Qabristan of Mecca and stayed there for three days. Mardana started his music (in accompaniment of Guru Nanak’s hymns). The people of Arab gathered in the presence of Guru Nanak. Heaps of dates and pots of milk were presented by these devotees. At the end of the music, Guru Nanak delivered a sermon. Qazi Ruqun-ud- Deen, Khwaja Zain-ul-aab(i) Deen (writer of Tareekh(i) Arab), Qazi Gulam Ahmed (Richest man of Mecca) and Ibni Aswad , the head of Quresh tribe and heads of Budhu tribes were also present then. The hymn ‘Yak Arz Guftam’ became a fad for Qazi Ruqun-ud-Deen. Khwaja Zain-ul-aab(i) Deen the writer of Twareekh(i) Arab, was present in Qabristan of Mecca. He wrote in the chapter Bab-ul-Mecca of his book ‘Twareekh-i-Arab’ (p. 300): The sermon of Guru Nanak was heard by 300 followers. Ruqun-ud-Deen went into deep meditation. Thereafter Ruqun-ud-Deen never went back to his home and remained in meditation in a cave till he was put to death by the fundamentalist regime. When Amir of Mecca came to know that the Muslims are following an infidel, he issued fatwas. These fatwas (religious orders) were; 1. Nanak faqir is an infidel. His teachings are falsehood and against the Muslim religion. 2. Ruqun-ud-Deen’s entire property will be confiscated. 3. The Khwesh tribe, the follower of Guru Nanak is ordered to leave the country. 4. Each followers of Guru Nanak ‘to undergo beating by 30 lashes and to be without food for 11 days.’ 5. They will then be burried in sand dunes. 6. Before this they will be taken on camels around the city with blackened faces. 7. They will be hung upside down. 8. The strongest follower of Guru Nanak (Ruqun-ud deen) will be burried in ground till his chest and then stoned to death. Since it was announced in the city that a criminal is being stoned to death; the citizens thronged to watch the event. The citizens of Mecca gathered round with stones….The writer of Twarikh-e-Arab sums up this event saying: “The sacrifice of Ruqun-ud-Deen was special.Watching the sacrifice, 50% of the onlookers became followers of Nanak”. This is how the number of followers of Guru Nanak increased with each sacrifice. Amir of Mecca sent his men to locate and eliminate Guru Nanak as well. Abdul Rahman the writer of another book Gunitusalehin (1506-07) was one such person assigned the job. He wrote about his encounter with Guru Nanak in his book: “When I was driving my horse with speed and hurry; my horse stopped abruptly. I tried to move him by kicking and hitting but the horse did not move. I lifted my head to find in front that at a distance of 100 yards the faqirs were seated. The elderly person in the midst of them had a brightened face and an aura around of him more powerful than thousands of suns. This brightness shut my eyes and I had a revelation that I was about to commit a crime. The horse proved better than me who saved me from committing this crime even though I gave him lashes to advance. In front of me is the same Godly person who had moved Mecca mosque. Shah Sharaf and Ruqun-ud-Deen became his devout followers. He has rightly spread the True Name of God among the Arabs and is now in front of me. I regained my senses and thought of doing the right. I immediately saw the reason; left my horse and shoes and fell at his feet.” This is how the person who had come to kill Guru Nanak turned his follower. Ruqun-ud-Deen had become a devout follower of Guru Nanak and was put to death because of his following of Guru Nanak. Ruqun-ud-Deen can thus be considered as the first martyr of Sikhism. His two tribes Sibi and Budhu migrated immediately from Mecca to Tirah area of Afghanistan where they are now permanently settled and have faith in reciting Japuji Sahib till date. References 1. 3. Try put the whole episode in here and explain it in layman's language what those stanzas mean. You seem to claim that kaviji wrote that Guru ji asked heads of pyaras but cut goats heads instead which implies Guru ji lied??? How dare you claim that kaviji would call SatGuruji a liar??

  5. for those who keep saying there is no point in debating. Jagraj Singh was approached by this Dawah Man and wanted to ask him questions. If he refused to answer his questions then the Dawah man would have seen this as a singh being scared and not confident in his religion. Well done to Jagraj Singh for totally owning this Dawah man who gives it large on the internet!

  7. Adam and Eve is a mythological story. One must realize that some religions use two powerful tools of Fear and Guilt on people for propagating their beliefs. So Adam and Eve story was created to say that they committed the original sin and now somehow we are also sinners and we can only be redeemed by their savior because he died for our sins. See the plot.

  9. Guru Sahib tells us debates are of no spiritual value and account for nothing when we die and are presented in front of the court of Dharamraaj.. Then no debate will matter. Guru Sahib doesn't tell us not to debate, but instead not to pursue debate. Bhai Jagraj Singh debated in a GurSikh manner and did not attack, but instead defend the teachings of Guru Sahib. Jagraj Singh knows all the attack points and fallacies, but he chose not to address them.

  10. Jaspreet has repeatedly made false and calculated accusations from different angles of sikhi since being on here. We all make mistakes and grab the wrong end of the stick sometimes, but it's always easier to own up with your hands up and say 'sorry',' misunderstood', 'looked at it incorrectly'...etc. But instead he just ducks and dives in an attempt to divert the attention. So we ask again, for the umpteenth time......'Where in the video' ???????

  13. As mentioned above, Suraj Prakas is a respected Granth fo the Sikhs. Since it was written it has been used to narrate the stories of Guru Jee. But as mentioned above, some parts of it were added. It would be wrong to cast doubt on the whole granth because of some parts like throwing the baby with the bath water. One must read Suraj Prakash with the touch stone of Gurbani and accept those parts with are in accordance with Gurbani.

  14. The problem with shankavadi missionaries is that they cast doubt without knowing historical facts. Bhai Mohkam singh ji is right that there were some additions by kavis without knowledge of Bhai Santokh singh ji. But that does not make whole Suraj parkash as suspect. Bhai Veer Singh ji spent 14 years to review and edit this granth. But he had immense respect for Bhai Santokh singh ji and hence did not alter anything in granth. He wrote his comments as footnotes.

  16. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH || Sardar Raghbir Singh Bir Sardar Raghbir Singh Bir was a Sikh businessman who used to live in Calcutta (Bengal). His family was originally from Lahore and his father Sardar Lehna Singh also was a very good Gurmukh. At first Bir jee got interested in Sikhi and he wrote the famous book Bandaginama on his spiritual experiences. In this book he writes that he used to dye and tie his beard, even though he knew it was a wrong practice. He did so at the order of his father who was not a religious person at that time. Later on, when his father Sardar Lehna Singh got infected with many diseases including arthritis, he took up Sikhi to cure himself. He did so much Abhyaas of Gurbani and Naam that within a very short period he became perfectly healthy. Till his last breath, at the age of 85, he maintained the body of a 25 years old youth. He wrote a wonderful book on his experiences and is called Gurmukh Jeevan. He was a fanatic as far as not using worldly medicine is concerned. He considered himself as pure Atma and conducted his business as such. Once, he hurt his foot and he did all things opposite to what doctor suggested. He did not tie his foot with a bandage and deliberately exposed it to water (as opposed to doctor's advice) and still got healed. First of all he never got sick but if he ever did, he used to conduct his business as usual and ate normal as well. He totally used to reject the notion of disease because he believed that a disease cannot occur to Atma. Once, Bir jee and Sardar jee (Lehna Singh jee) started talking about the Atma saroop of the Jeev. Bir jee questioned that if we were truly Atma, then why was there a need to sleep. At this Sardar jee agreed and then proved it by not sleeping for many days, and still not feeling any tiredness or fatigue. He used to do his regular work all day, and at night would come to the bedside of his son and all night do Naam Abhyaas. Once a thought came to his mind that why should he use the mosquito net for protection from mosquitoes. He argued that the mosquitoes contained the same Parmatma Vaheguru as all of us and as such they should not bite him and hurt him. So he removed the net and also removed his shirt and slept with kachera only. The next morning his body was so badly bitten by the mosquitoes that there was not a part on his body that was unhurt. Sardar jee laughed it off saying that the reason why mosquitoes had hurt him was that he had some hidden hatred and negative feeling for them. Then he did Naam Abhyaas all day and kept affirming again and again that the mosquitoes were a roop of Vaheguru and that Vaheguru jee could not hurt him. Within couple of days, the mosquitoes stopped biting him at all and then all his life he never slept with mosquito net and he never got hurt by mosquitoes. Sardar Raghbir Singh Bir wrote some excellent books which include the following titles: Sarb Rog ka Aukhand Naam - This books talks about curing oneself through Naam and Gurbani. Chardi Kala - This book contains chosen articles that bring Chardi Kala to one's life. Safal Jeevan - This books talks about how to have a successful live - both worldly and spiritual. Ramzi Kahaniyaan - This book contains some fictitious stories that are full of spirituality and spiritual secrets. A must read for serious seekers. Ardaas Shakti - This book talks about the concept of Ardaas in Sikhi and how to do such an Ardaas that gets heard by Vaheguru jee. Bir jee writes of his experience after stopping to dye and tie his beard. He writes how he started getting treated differently everywhere he went. If he would be standing in a queue, he would get moved to the top because of his appearance etc. COURTESY OF KULBIR SINGH GURMATBIBEK.COM VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH ||

The clear winner is Bhai Jagraj Singh, they use fundamentalism and blind faith and parrot science, reason and logic without knowing what they're parroting. A third party non-Sikh and non-Musli will declare Bhai Jagraj Singh as the most logical and have won the debate. These guys can parrot their crap in countries like UK and Canada where blind political correctness has infected society and a lot of Sikhs, but here in USA they won't be able to go around parring non-sense like this.

  21. NEW DELHI: Nearly three decades after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination triggered riots that killed thousands of Sikhs, Congress leader Sajjan Kumar will face trial for his alleged role in a murder in Delhi's Sultanpuri area. The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition by Kumar and another co-accused challenging the trial court's decision three-and-a-half years ago to frame murder charges against them. The Delhi High Court too had rejected Kumar's plea against the trial court order. In July 2010, the trial court framed charges under several provisions of Indian Penal Code including Section 302 (murder) and rioting against Kumar, Brahmanand Gupta, Peru, Khushal Singh and Ved Prakash Pial for their alleged role in the killing of a man in Sultanpuri area during the anti-Sikh riots. Khushal Singh died during pendency of the case. A bench of Justices A K Patnaik and V Gopala Gowda dismissed the appeals filed by Kumar and Brahmanand Gupta after the CBI opposed their pleas on the ground that the HC, after going through the evidence, had found that the trial court had strong suspicion about their involvement in the crime. However, the HC had rejected a plea for framing "conspiracy" charge against the accused. The CBI had filed two charge-sheets against Kumar and others in January 2010 in the riots cases, which were registered in 2005 only after specific recommendations of Justice G T Nanavati Commission which inquired into the sequence of events leading to the riots and violence. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Sajjan-Kumar-to-face-trial-30-years-after-anti-Sikh-riots/articleshow/26814811.cms

  24. Just to note, if anyone is unsure as to whether Guru Ji can behead someone and then re-attach their head, then they should read the sakhi of Samman and Musan. There is a shabad in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji call Funhey. In this sakhi Guru Arjan Dev Ji re-attached a head that was chopped off by someone else let alone Guru Ji himself. Also One should note the shabad: SATGUR MERA MAAR JIVALEY (MY TRUE GURU CAN TAKE AND RE-GIVE LIFE). Guru Ji is the same entity as Waheguru. So there should also be no doubt that Guru Ji beheaded the Punj piyare. If you google "eye witness to vaisakhi 1699" you will find a previous post on this forum which mentions that there was no tent and that Guru Ji beheaded the 5 piyare and medically reattached their heads.

  27. Here is my 2 cent analysis on whats going on- Op(orginal poster) have rigid views regarding suchum and jhoot. Op felt his beleifs are being challenged or rejected by puratan sakhi of bhai jodh ji in soraj parkash granth in other thread. So what does op do? He rejects sakhi all together instead of contexualizing it whilst still maintaning spontaneous level of bibek like many sant khalsa mahapursh have done. Then he goes two steps further- create this thread- insinuating more doubts on soraj parkash granth instead of really addressing issue within - failing to contextualize things, failing to see things in stages, failing to rise above from One dimensional thought process, failing to clear his preconceived notions within, failing to rise above from black and white mindset. In fact, missionary bhausarias follow same sort of ridiculous rigid black and white mindset and do khandan mandan of everything which does not fit in their one dimensional thought process On fair note, i do think ops need help it does appear his one leg is in missionary khandan mandan mindset and but luckily other leg is still in gurmat. So we still have hope to save our fellow brother. Hopefully, op can contact senior gurmukhs to seek help. In fact, all of us who are in learning path should be open to learning from our senior gursikh vidvaans and clear any doubts we may have instead of missionary khandan mandan k nee reaction type approach.

  31. Khalsa Ji, Sri Gurpratap Suraj Granth is remarkable record of Gurusahiban history; Choodamani Kavi Santokh Singh was a remarkable writer, and an devoted Sikh. The Granth was compiled by the request of Raja Uday Singh of Kaithal, Kurukshetra, India. The staff who were appointed to assist Kavi Ji, to write and bind the Granth, we're Devi worshippers. Without the consent of Kavi Ji, the staff added their own vies into the Granth, such as Devi worship etc. There are some accounts that do not conform to Gurbani, but they are adulterations; Kavi Ji was a Gursikh of the highest calibre. Their faces were radiant and had spiritually bright auras around their heads. After blessing Baba Ji with this vision Hazrat Mohammed Sahib Ji spoke, “You are blessed and truly fortunate to whom Guru Nanak Dev Ji has shown the direct and easy method to attain enlightenment of Almighty God especially in this age of kalyug. The followers of the Great Guru Nanak Dev are not deriving the full benefit of his teachings.” After this, Bhrigu Rishi Ji spoke, “In our times, we had to undergo hard penance and rigorous spiritual austerities in order to achieve enlightenment. The whole life of a man was spent in meditation and making offerings to God and even then, union with God was hard to achieve. The true nectar of naam which great Guru Nanak Dev Ji has brought for his Sikhs is remarkable; even we could not obtain this boon of naam. No doubt we amassed great spiritual and miraculous powers through rigorous meditation and penance, including powers to curse or bless anyone, but we were still deprived of the nectar of naam.” Jesus Christ just said simply, “It is my inner desire that my followers one day adopt the path shown by great Guru Nanak Dev Ji.” Saying these words, all three prophets disappeared. Mohammed Sahib is the founder of Islam Bhrigu Rishi was a great Hindu Saint whose prophecies of the future are compiled in the book called Bhrigu Granth. Jesus Christ is the founder of Christianity. 40. https://www.facebook.com/DailySikhUpdates1?hc_location=timeline Bhai Jodh Ji was intellectual and held knowledge. He came to visit Guru Angad Jee's darbaar (court). He experienced happiness, which he never felt before. Everyday Bhai Jodh would listen to Guru's Keertan and sermon and then go to the Langar Hall, where he would wash all the jhoote bhaandey (dirty dishes) of the Sangat. The GurSikhs saw that Bhai Jodh does a lot of Sewa but he does not sit in Pangat (with the congregation) to eat Langar. It must be because he is a Brahman and thinks he is higher than us that he doesn't eat with rest of Guru's Sangat. The GurSikhs reported this to Guru Angad. "Guru Angad Jee, Bhai Jodh does a lot of Sewa but he does not eat Langar in Pangat". Guru Angad Jee called Bhai Jodh to see him. Bhai Jodh arrived in the presence of the Guru. Guru Angad Jee asked him, 'Bhai Jodh is it true that you do not eat in the Pangat like the rest of the Sangat?' 'No Maharaj! I do eat in the Sangat,' replied Bhai Jodh. The GurSikhs said, 'see, now he is a liar as well!" The Guru told Bhai Jodh, "you are holding something from me. When do you eat your Langar? Tell me." Bhai Jodh, now had tears in his eyes and he told the Guru infront of the GurSikhs, 'Maharaj, when I clean the dirty dishes of the Sangat, sometimes people leave jhoot (left overs). I collect the jhoot of the Sangat in a small bowl. When all the Sangat leave, I then eat the left over jhoot.' The listeners by where shocked to hear this, they thought Bhai Jodh didn't eat the rest because of his pride and ego. But they were wrong, how could a person be so humble and consider themselves so low. Guru Jee asked Bhai Jodh, 'O Sikh, why do eat the left overs of the Sangat. What makes you eat Jhoot?" Bhai Jodh replied, "Maharaj, when I came to see you for the first time, I had a ego and pride that I was an educated Brahman. But I heard from you Guru Jee, that when we have hankaar (ego) we cannot obtain the happiness. Maharaj I hear from you that you don't like maan (pride) and hankaar (ego)." "I put jhoot in the mouth of hankaar , in the mouth of my Ego, the thing that doesn't let me get happiness", said Bhai Jodh. "Don't say that Bhai Jodh!" replied the Guru. "Your sins have been washed, the Guru now dwells within you". The next day, Bhai Jodh sat in the Pangat (congregation) and ate Langar. Some people come to the Gurdwara just to criticise and pick up faults of people, we see this today . To get happiness (kushiaan) it is hard. You have to endure lots – sewa (selfless service), simran (meditation) as well as criticism as this is the sign of living in Kaljug (era of falsehood). The GurSikhs who reported Bhai Jodh the day before saw him eating in the Pangat. They told him, "Why are you eating in the Pangat? Has the leftovers (jhoot) finished or something? We knew you were a Pakandee, a fake." Now the reply Bhai Jodh said was heart moving (in Bairaag). "I ate Jooth before because I had ego and pride within me. But now within me is the Guru (the Guru's teachings were enshrined in his heart). You can put a dirty spoon in the mouth of Ego. Ego used to dwell within me. But when I look within me now, when I contemplate within now, I see only the Guru and only feel the Guru . When I eat I, I eat for the Guru, I feed Guru within. I cannot feed my Guru jhoot so I cannot feed my Guru jhoot which resides within me." Guru Angad Maharaj Jee over heard this conversation. He hugged and embraced Bhai Jodh Jee. 'jodh rasoeeaa devthaa gur saevaa kar dhuthar thaaree||' à Jodh, the cook, served the Guru and swam across the world ocean. (Bhai Gurdas ji vaar 11th Vaar, Pauree 15) Via Tuhitu Blog

  41. Young Sikh Healthy Cookery Chef 2014 My VISION in DESI WELLNESS KITCHEN cookery show was to promote healthy cooking for 21st century which was launched to bring awareness and inspiration to worldwide Sikh Channel viewers. 1) In this cookery shows I am promoting 40% RAW FOOD DIET and reducing bad carbs. 2) In the cookery shows I am promoting Live Food and reducing carsogenic foods which create abnormal proteins in our bodies leading on to cancers and how overcooked food malnutritions us and thereby straves the organs from vital vitamins and minerals to generate good healthy cells which help repair and keep our organs in prime condition. 3) The right choice of cooking oils and steering away from bad oils which when heated above 100 degrees heat to release carbon fumes which are seriously dangerous for our heart arteries. 4) Awareness of the whole mind concept of cooking with correct state of mind body and spirt.. T ) Awareness that the biggest SPICE or MASALA is cooking with PASSION..and how this positive energy can make a simple dhal or vegetable dish be most potent and nutritious for our body rather than cooking with stress, anger or aggression which creates negative energy in food presented and would not be nutritionally beneficial to person who eats it. The Cookery shows has been a great inspiration to young viewers across globe who are regular dedicated viewers of healthy cookery shows every week. Invertedly the shows ( which was my dream to get young sikh girls and boys to get back into kitchen to do creative cooking..great for satisfaction for mind and soul) instead of relying on fast foods which are leading to bad choices affecting their physical wellbeing as those foods are cooked with incorrect oils..cooked on high heat which actually kills substantial amount of vitamins in the food given to us from ma dharti. It is these choices of foods that for over 2 decades I have tried to reach my viewers across globe in various TV channels where I have tried to relay above message. MY VISION OF LAUNCHING THE YOUNG SIKH CHEF of 2014″ YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT and YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH I launched the competition to inspire our young Sikhs to learn to cook and make right choice of foods from prime age before they go into higher University education..where they start depending on fast foods as cooking was not encouraged from home. And educating our young generation about all key points mentioned above. ALSO Finally my Vision to educate our young girls into making correct choice of foods, good cooking eating right foods at right time of day. I feel if the our young generation get this awareness they will project this message to their childrenOUR FUTURE..of a Healthy society which is our Wealth. Which is FINALLY also my dream to educate, bring awareness and inspire our generation not to become victims help reduce blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, obesity, cancers the most critical diseases that our Sikhs are inflicted by thereby reducing the quality of life. 42. We are walking along the road, no other person can see us, we pick up someone's dropped purse, with a large amount of money, and their I.d. Choice 1. We contact that person, and give their purse back to them. Choice 2. We keep the cash, and discard the purse. What causes us to choose action 1, and what causes us to choose action 2? The person choosing action 2, is under the heavy influence of maya. The person choosing action 1, is not under the heavy influence of maya. When we were first created, we did have a clean chit, in terms of no previous karams, but the fact remains, that as jeevs, we were placed under the influence of maya, I.e. Kaam/krodh....otherwise the game cant be played out by Waheguru. There is free will, but our hands are tied, eyes blindfolded, and shackles around the feet, are placed by maya. Only Naam removes these bandan, and then we have liberation, where there is no I fluency of the 5; hence the life of a Gurmukh.... Waheguru....

  45. Hence we can conclude that: There is no difference between the gurus and krishan avatar, ram chandar, raja janak etc. Har harjan dohi ik he bib bechar kich nah God and gods lovers(brahmgiani, avtars, gurus etc) are 1 comparing them is futile
