  3. Essentially where reason that the Sikhs lost out both in 1849 and in 1947 was demographics. Had the Sikhs been the majority in Punjab in 1849 then the British would never have been able to subdue the Khalsa and if they did win a few battles the Punjab would have been ungovernable for them and then there would have been mutiny in 1857. The article is true in one aspect, the Punjab Muslims got a country gifted to them by the British without any effort but then the British also gifted the rest of the India to the Brahmin elite. Where Maharaja Ranjit Singh failed was that he did not utilise the decade of relative peace from 1829 to 1839 to look to the future and make the state that he had created into a permanent entity. Had the Anglo-War war not happened in 1845 and the Sikh state been able to keep the British at bay for another 50 years say into 1899 then the British would never have annexed it even had there been a war at that time. There is every possibility that the state would have replicated what the Japanese had done and become an industrial power. Given the existence of this state then when the British would have left India then they would left it exactly how they found it. The Princely states would have become independent and the British provinces also would probably have become independent or at the very least a loose confederation. The Sikh states south of the Sutlej would have been in an interesting position. They could either have merged together to become an independent state or merged with the Lahore state. The East Punjab districts which were British possession such as Ferozpur, Ludhiana and Ambala which had a Sikh population of 33% would have gone into the merger. So in the alternate history had the Lahore state survived the Sikhs in 1947 would have stood tall on the world stage having a 150 year of state at Lahore becoming stronger by the merging of the eastern part of the Punjab into it.

  4. LONDON-Agenda 21 Architects Studio has secured planning permission for a Sikh temple in Barking. The 3,155sq m temple, known as a gurdwara, will be clad with white stone and feature carvings, cornices and balustrades created by specialist Indian craftsmen. Golden bronze cladding panels will be used to finish the top tier of the main building in reference to the Gold Temple in Amritsar. A 420sq m dining hall will be the largest space within the new building and will serve free vegetarian meals to visitors throughout the day. Other rooms will be used as congregation halls, classrooms and residential areas for visiting priests and musicians. Agenda 21 described the proposed temple as "resolutely traditional at first glance but designed with a strong modern ethos regarding proportions, typology and functional layouts leading to an editing of the traditional features". The new temple will adjoin the listed 19th century Quaker Friends House which was converted into East London's first Sikh temple in 1973. 5. This Universe is just one of his reflections. Have you ever been in a house of mirrors at the funfair? You stand in the middle of the room and your reflections are everywhere. There are many different types of mirrors that all reflect you in different ways. The reflections are distorted. Some make you look short, some make you look long, others make you look skinny. But there is still only one of you. All those mirrors reflect you but there is only one "real" thing that is causing the reflections. If I went up to one of those mirrors and smashed it, it would get rid of one of your reflections. But you will remain unaffected, me smashing the mirror has not harmed you. In the same way, Waheguru is seperate from creation, but infused within it. We are those mirrors, the universe, galaxies, planets, humans, dogs, etc. are all just those mirrors that are reflecting Wahguru's light. If they are destroyed it won't affect waheguru will it?

  6. I totally disagree with you on that, by saying "Sache patshah wants only amritdharis" you're going against one of Guru Nanak's most profound teachings. Naa koi Hindu, naa koi Musalman. God isn't a "man in the sky" who's interested in religious labels. God is within each and every one of us, and it's up to us to take the Guru's advice to discover Waheguru's wonder through meditation, hard work, honest living, truth and serving humanity.

  8. Let me put it very clear. This discussion will be between you and me only on the topic of Hukam and Satgur Parsad. If other members post then you and I will ignore their post. Do you agree with this? This discussion will be done because of your intentional disrespect toward Satgur Parsad. Read many of your post on how you are confusing sangat purposely. This discussion will happen with one point being discussed at a time or a max of two points that are closely related. I know how you like to jumble everything up to confuse the sangat. Do you agree with all of this? I am telling you this beforehand so you don't think I am trapping you in some discussion. I want you to come in completely aware of what the intentions are here as I have nothing to hide. If you are going to post any reference, then in your own words it has to be explained why a reference from anywhere is being presented. I will do the same. Do you agree? Let me know when you are ready to have this discussion.

  9. Dear brother hsingh68, surely when you make such a bold statement : there is no soul, you must have something in mind, but going in accordance to this present topic of Nam, and replying to your post , Satguru Sacahey Badshah Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj, in raag Aasaa says: anhad sun maani-aa sabad veechaaree. Hearing the unstruck music of the sound current, this mind contemplates the Shabad, and accepts it. aatam cheeneh, bha-ay nirankaaree. Understanding itself, this soul becomes attuned to the Formless Lord. What Baba Nanak trys to explain us, is that, by listening to the Anhad Bani, Anhad Shabad, the mind is defeated, and the soul is thus liberated from its clutches. And the soul, then sees it´s true self as same in essence of that Nam, Shabad or Wahiguru. Knowing its real essence of being same as Parbraham Parmeshwar, it proceeds at full speed towards its destination, Sach Khand, to merge and become one with Satnam samundar. This is the beauty of the truths in the Bani, because they are uttered by Akal purukh Himself, through His Gurmukhs. Wah wah Sachay Badshah.

  10. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/senior-officers-still-target-other-crimes-above-child-grooming-8932247.html Senior officers 'still target other crimes above child grooming' Approach 'varied significantly' across the force's four districts - Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham Jonathan Brown Monday, 11 November 2013 Senior officers from the police force that was heavily criticised over its handling of child sexual exploitation cases continue to prioritise burglary and vehicle crime over grooming victims, a report by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) found. The watchdog expressed "serious concern" over the actions of South Yorkshire Police which it ordered to improve with inspectors describing an inconsistent approach to child protection at local levels of the force. Chief constable David Crompton was told to "get a grip" on child sex offending in Rotherham by senior MPs last year following claims of widespread abuse of girls by Asian men in the town. In 2010 five men were jailed for grooming teenagers for sex. It was the first in a series of high-profile cases over the last three years that have revealed harrowing evidence of exploitation across England including Rochdale, Derby and Oxford. South Yorkshire Police has faced claims that it was reluctant to bring about prosecutions of alleged sex gangs because of racial sensitivities over the ethnicity of alleged perpetrators. In 2012 it bought no successful prosecutions, a senior officer told the Home Affairs Select Committee. An investigation by The Times claimed police and child protection agencies in Rotherham had extensive knowledge of these activities for a decade, yet failed to act. Today's report found: "Many of the staff interviewed for this inspection felt that the emphasis from senior and middle local managers was still more focused on dealing with offences such as burglary and vehicle crime, rather than child sexual exploitation (and both the notices displayed in police stations, and some of the documentation reviewed for this inspection support this perception)." HMIC called for South Yorkshire Police, which is also at the centre of continuing controversy over its role in the Hillsborough disaster, to carry out an audit of its response to child sexual exploitation in in accordance a national policing action plan -something it was supposed to have carried out in the summer. Inspectors said the force is unable to evaluate the quality of its protective work as in some cases there was no record in the case file of the level of support and intervention provided by police and partners to the victim. The report was one of three inquiries commissioned South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright. It concluded that Mr Wright and the Chief Constable had made child sexual exploitation a top priority for the force. Between January and March 2013 South Yorkshire trained all of its 1,700 frontline staff in relation to child sexual exploitation. It praised staff for being "conscientious, enthusiastic, and focused" on helping children. But it said whilst there were" pockets of good and effective practice" the approach varied significantly across the force's four districts - Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. "HMIC also found that many staff in public protection and children safeguarding specialist units were working in crowded offices, were poorly equipped, and found it difficult to manage their workloads. This situation is adversely disproportionate to the importance the PCC and chief constable have placed on this area of policing," the report said.

  11. What is naam? Many people say they have naam from so and so but are not amritdhari. I know of Radha Soamis having naam, no bad comments plz, but do other Sikh samparda also give this and do other faiths? What exactly is it? I always thought it was simran, or reciting gods name. Then some people say one needs a guru, confusing.

  12. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh UK Sikh gurdwara's are continuing to carry out inter-faith weddings against Akal Takht advice. The Rehat Maryada states 'Persons professings faiths other than the Sikh faith cannot be joined in wedlock by the anand karaj ceremony.' So, although the marriages may be legal under UK law, are the marriages recognised under Sikh principles? Are gurdwara masand's breaking the law by conducting marriages under 'false pretences'?

  13. Dear friends and sangat, sometimes churning anything simple, just complicates things and make us miss the objective. That even, with the fact, by the quote given by Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj in an upper post some days back, saying that soul exists, there are people who deny that, challenge Guru Sahiban, by trying to put their point of view in front. This shows nothing else, but that we are weak and poor in chit, and have not yet understood the Bani at all. The Bani of our Guru Sahibans, is perfect from any angle...not a single comma or even full stop so to say, should be modified...their words are perfect Laws for the whole humanity. From what this brother hsingh68, has said in several posts... are just contradictions in his own posts and words. Let us have an objective view on some of his words. 1)There is no individual soul other than param-Atma. There is no separate immortal soul that merges into an immortal God. There is only 1 soul, which is GOD. There is only one God, that is true as we all know, it is in almost all holy scriptures, that is nothing new. But when he says, there is no separate soul, here himself is being contradictory to what he says in a later post, when he says: Understanding naam for a second, means mukhti from the birth and life cycle. Now, whose mukti is he talking about? Naturally not of God Wahiguru, who is ajoonee(birthless, so naturally deathless) and akal moorat. So, if Wahiguru is ajoonee, then who is caught up in the cycle of births and deaths? Naturally not the body ,nor the mind, which are made of the 5 elements, which are perishable... so then what is that left, which goes on and on, in different lives, and that which is not perisahble? Because if it is not Wahiguru, nor the body or the mind who are caught up in the cycles of births and deaths, who is it to get the mukti from births and deaths? The only answer left with common sense is : the soul So naturally as we know, Nam and Wahiguru is the same according to the Bani. That means, when the soul knows or remembers the Nam or Wahiguru, it gets free from the cycle of births and deaths, because it has previously freed it self from the mind and its mentor, Dharam Rai. And he is saying:Understanding naam for a second, means mukhti from the birth and life cycle. So who has to understand the Nam? Of course not Wahiguru, because He already knows what He is. Neither the body or mind can understand what is Nam, as ther are "jarr" means consciousless, so the answer is the soul, which is in same in essence and nature like Akal Purukh, with its same properties. And the soul also does not need to understand Nam exactly, because, it is already a particle of it, but yes, due to its association with the mind, it has forgotten its origin and is wandering aimlessly in the creation. So, by the sacred practice of Nam Simran, the soul regains its real consciousness, that it is a part of Him, but separated from Him, due to x reasons, but it is naturally separated. And the proof is, we are in pain and suffering constantly. As we know, Wahiguru is an infinite ocean of bliss also. Let us ask ourselves, are we in a bliss state? No. So naturally we are away from that ocean of bliss and everlasting happiness, in this creation, there where maya and mind have kept prisoners the souls. But Wahiguru is no less merciful also. That is why Gurmukhs come and remind us of the only reality Wahiguru, they say attach yourself to Nam Simran, and slowly and slowly, all your bondages, karmas, mind maya, kam krodh lobh moh ahankar...etc, shall be removed from you, and you shall be spotless, inmaculate totally, so to merge in your origin, Satnam samundar. The bani says: sarab rog, ka aukhad Nam. The Nam is the medicine for all our maladies and miseries Supposing, our golden ring falls in a gutter and is covered with filth...that does not mean, its value has lessened... it is only it needs to be washed. This is the same with our souls, it is covered with the filth of karmas, sanskaras, sins, and with layers of mind, maya, the threes bodies: gross, astral and causal... so naturally it has adopted an akaaree roop to an extent... because as we know, Wahiguru, is Nirankar, Alakh and Agam...as there is no such thing as mind, maya ... this all exits, in the creation below Sach Khand. 2)Sach Khand has not left us.... That is true. Sach Khand has not left us. We have left Sach Khand. In the sense, the house never abandons you, but the being living there, can go out for any reasons. Why has Wahiguru created this creation, and we are sent here, only He knows. But one thing is sure, we are away from Him. If he were to explain us, we at our present state, we shall never understand it, so the Gurmukhs advise us, to elevate our consciousness to His level, and ask Him. Other thing is, when we shall meet Him, all our doubts and questions shall be disolved. Like we have heard, a handful of salt went to sea to see its depth, but on reaching there, it melt and beacme one with sea. So is the greatness of Wahiguru, the day we meet Him, we shall be Him. Not a part of Him, but Him, Himself. That is the guarantee of our Guru Sahibans. That is why, they have said: Jin Har jaapiyaa, se Har hoeeyaa. Wah wah Sachay Badshah, kaun jaane guna Tere.

It's a shame that this sort of mentality is so widespread

  20. Not everyone surti is clear like that since there are lot of factors - ie- past lives latent tendencies, past life karams, old sanskar etc so starting from beginning is required to slowly clean the mind by first niskham seva, rehat, gurbani recitation, vichar, naam recitation, prem, bairaag, devotion. No enlighten being would reject beginning, intermediary things/ stages for people all together. Yes they would give updesh to raise the bar of spiritual aspirants and actually change the perception of individuals but not reject or change the actual gurmat maryada or things or do khandan mandan of gurmat beginning sidhant. Also as i mentioned from one gurmat sidhant maryada perspective which supposed to cater all most importantly beginners- structure or stages are required. If one wants to break structure do it in their own surti within not in external panth like real life like missionaries who do khandan mandan of everything which is now having adverse effect on people going all left wing than bring good - bringing people to Gurmat which is center neither right nor left..

  21. I understand what you are saying but I have met so many people who are under the illusion of stages. They keep saying I'm at this level or I need to do more kamai to progress to the next level. These individuals have been brainwashed and because of all these stages are lost to ignorance. The stages for them are the hindrance that prevents them from realising God. The same people have been misled and for some reason these stages are never ending there is always one more stage before they can meet God. What a paradox!

  22. If you are reciting waheguru waheguru even before or after you have taken amrit and have not met God. Then you have not realised what true naam is or you have not been reciting naam. Understanding naam for a second means mukhti from the birth and life cycle.

  23. When I read passages about the Guru "being" God, I believe that means the Gurus have the light of God. Equally, so do we all, as God is everything and pervades all matter and the universe, but the Gurus were on such a high spiritual enlightenment and had such a deep connection with Waheguru that they could guide the rest of us. It's a very deep, complex issue, but I personally don't like to say the Gurus "are" God, because then people take that to mean Gurus are incarnations of God, and that limits perception of the almighty to just one physical entity. That's a concept which Guru Nanak Dev Ji rejected - God does not come down to Earth as incarnations (Ram, Krishna etc), but we are all part of God.

This gurdwara hardly has a huge amount of sangat, half the time the place is empty- more sangat goes to seven kings (the partner gurdwara of this one). Either way the buildings for both gurdware serve the purpose fine. Rather than this why don't they focus on actually doing some decent programs. If anything spend some money on getting us a decent car park!! If there ever is an actual good program most people have to spend half of it looking for a space before they decide to go home lol. While families of shaheed singhs are dying in Punjab, how can we justify spending god knows how much on unnecessary building developments?

No matter how justified our reason, we will only give ourselves a terrorist image as our action will be viewed as criminal. We are trying to seek help from the British Government- we must preserve our innocence if we wish our voice to be heard. We should fight for our cause through peaceful means. We do not need to worry for Lieutenant-General Kuldeep since he has the burden of thousands of souls on his head- his life is already punishable. Take example of Bhai Sahib Gurbaksh Singh. 29. The Sikh state was still in it's infancy when it was absorbed into British India. At the time when the sovereign Sikhs state existed, it was better off than the rest of India. People from all over India would come to Punjab to find employment. This was before the industrial age. So had we gone into the Industrial age perhaps our people might have replicated the success of Japan which also transformed itself from a feudal society into an advanced industrial nation rivaling the west. At the time the Sikh army was just as disciplined as any of the best European armies. When the British had gifted the Sikhs one cannon, the Sikhs did reverse engineering and replicated that cannon and made it better than the original. The Brits were just lucky Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa died early.

The rotten Indian media has once again proven that its mentality is much lower and much dirtier than the bishta of an unclean stray dog, and that its attitude towards Sikhs is much worse than that of a jealous and hateful step brother or step sister. Singhs who went on to the Facebook pages of various Indian news channels and posted about Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa ji had their messages reported as "spam", which resulted in a temporary block on the accounts of those Singhs from making any public posts for some time. Not that our Singhs care 2 cents about such a ridiculous blockage, but it does expose the fact that Sikhs and their serious concerns are seen as "spam" by the Indian media. Shame on you Indian media! Shame on you for once again missing out a chance to prove that you would be just a bit concerned about the Sikhs, even if you had to fake it!

  34. These words are of Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj. It is not bind faith Veerji. When a criminal commits a crime and get arrested, cops would put handcuffs on him. Our Guru has put permanent handcuffs on us so that whenever we are going to do something wrong, our Kara would remind us that we always have to do good. It makes perfect sense to me. Wearing a Kara is a choice unless you are Amritdhari( even being an Amritdhari is a choice). God isn't enforcing us to wear it so it can't be slavery, if one choses to wear it, it is out of love and respect.
