  1. Wouldn't say it's pointless, only that it isn't a magical potion that somehow instantly cures somebody of being a low-life , as a staggering number of people on this forum seem to believe. The work isn't over when you take Guru Ka Amrit. It isn't the case that once you drink it, it becomes like a filter in a fish-tank constantly cleaning up the filth inside you. The impetus is on you to do that, and recieving Guru's Pahul helps a lot of people very much in this endeavor. Amrit is a very potent force for positive change in a person.

  2. A word of advice: If your'e a blighty bandar like me, who thinks he (and indeed does) speak a wonderfull colloqial rustic rural punjabi NEVER EVER, when conversing with anyone actually from Punjab, try and explain the old/new Testament parable of it "being easier to thread a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to reach the kingdom of heaven". I tried. I failed. I tried because I was trying to articulate how we are valuing the rich man more than the poor man who is rich in his heart. So I translated the parable. They all looked at me like I was a retarded simpleton and started asking questions (in Punjabi) like "what kind of mental person would try and thread a camel through the eye of a needle?" and "how the hell can someone be so stupid that he thinks picking up a camel is possible?". It went on and on. I quickly regretted even attempting to translate this parable into Punjabi but even then the besti was not complete. They kept going. One minute, in their eyes, I was a man of respect "doing Phd" and the next, simply by embarking on this terrible terrible mistake, I lost all respect. I became nothing more than a man that thinks it is possible to pick a camel up and poke it through a tiny needle. Thats the moral of that story. Punjabis will never get to the bit about it being difficult for a rich man to reach the kingdom of heaven. You will lose all Punjabis (and your respect) the very moment you mention a 'camel' and trying to literaly thread it through a tiny hole. So, because I care for you all as my brothers and sisters I advise you all to never make the same mistake I made. NEVER EVER try and relate the camel, eye of the needle and the the rich man scenario to a Sikh from Punjab. For your own sake's don't do it. But, seeing how most of you are like me (not with the same thinking and mindset but with the similar western born mindset) I feel you'll be able to at understand what I was trying to get at. The point I was going to make to them, but never got to that stage because I became an epic fool, is that we respect the rich man too much. I wanted to explain the deeper meaning of the parable, articulating the fact that the rich man fails to reach the kingdom of heaven not because he is rich but because the richness massages his ego and false pride. I remember when I was a teenager having a similar conversation with an auntie (amritdhari) and I'll never forget how she quoted the fact that Sri Gobind Singh Ji was so rich, had the finest clothes and the finest horses...ie the finest things....that the Sikhs that have those things are closer to HIM. This left me despondent but I quickly realised that the mentality of the average Sikh from Punjab is to think like this. Now here's the thing. I got married in Punjab. My one and only condition for marriage was the girl should be from a Sikh family that is not rich, has suffered from the Indian progroms and would benefit from me. It gave me a sense of worth. It gave me purpose, and I thank the Lord for giving me the opportunity for doing this. But, I look around at all the rich boys and girls from really really Gursikh chardi-kala families in the UK and Canada...western born...and active in standing up for Sikh rights...and I can't help thinking how come exactly 0% of them has married a beautifull Singhni from the widows colony in Delhi ? How come, even though 99% of the beautifull daughters of Sri Gobind Singh Ji, i.e daughters and grandaughters of the shaheeds of 1984 onwards, are living in poverty and suffering, exactly 0% of our UK and Canada born Gursikhs have married any of them ? Basic Maths : 100% of them preaching about the suffering of the family of the shaheeds yet 0% of them marrying one of them thus helping them. Advanced Maths : I've never been any good at Maths but in this instance even I, who is rubbish at Maths can confidently say it doesn't add up. But every maths equation must have answer. The answer is money, greed and riches. But, as the thread implies, we Sikhs of Punjabi heritage have an inherent problem that goes beyond basic maths problems. Punjab and Sikhi's biggest problem is the way that the Badal clan 'keeps it in the family' and has kept Punjab on it's knees by accumulating power by marriage. So what do these western born anti-Badal Gursikhs teach us when they embark on their marraige liasons with other rich Gursikh familes, as they always do ? The answer is that you should never attempt to explain how it is easier to thread a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to reach the kingdom of heaven.

  4. I don't agree with you on the above in bold, brother, but I can appreciate why you'd make such a statement. It's too easy for anyone to take Amrit and profess to be a Sikh of the Guru. Most of the time there's simply no desire to look within oneself to make improvements or work on deficiencies in character and personality that are the antithesis of what it means to be a baptised Sikh. Certain elements of the older generation, if I was being cynical, see it as a rite of passage, something to do close to or during retirement in the hope of erasing a lifetime of questionable deeds in the mistaken belief of being spared the ordeal of being reborn on earth again. But what excuse do the youngsters have for not bothering to continue learning and improving to become great and true Sikhs? For them, I suspect, it's more of a social thing. They swap the environment of the pub or the club for holier surroundings as if that's the whole battle won. The one's who haven't partaken in intoxicants or other vices still view Sikhi as something akin to supporting a football club, and all the tribalism and baggage such a mentality entails. I've never met a true Gursikh (as Gurbani states) in my entire life. Those who I've thought were the real deal eventually let their mask slip. I'm not asking or expecting perfection, because that's not possible or reasonable to expect any human being to be, but I've seen so many questionable people who've taken Amrit for suspect reasons, and then continue with the same mentality, traits and habits from before, that I just wonder what's going on. I've encountered a few non-Sikhs, and quite alarmingly, an atheist with more wisdom, knowledge, and patience than any baptised Sikh. That's quite a sad thing to realise.

  6. Except that;s why I said many? So what you're saying now is Guru sahib was born entangled into Maya lol. Basically what you're saying is when Guru arjun dev Ji wrote his letter's to Guru Ram Das Ji they were all engrossed in Maya. Well done on literally insulting every Mahapurkh that walked. Why on Earth are you comparing The Caste System to human gender? Human Gender is common in everyone. It's what Waheguru give you, I asked you to find out where in the Genome it states what Caste someone is and you totally failed lol. For you being punjabi is first then it's being Sikh. Despite the fact countless Gurbani quotes, some evidence backed by learned Sikh scholars have all proven your stupid arguments false time and time again. You still think you're 100% right. For once in your life look at the world as a Sikh not a Punjabi. I know that's very hard for you but maybe you should do it. I literally just explained why it's mentioned, Gurbani isn't just "look at translations and we completely understand". Gurbani uses what people were familiar with to CONVEY A point. If you want to take the Literal meaning of everything then feel free to believe it's a bull holding the Earth up, feel free to think Guru Nanak Dev Ji was bowing to Brahma. It's pretty funny how you were all for believing a bull could hold the Earth up but when the Caste System is mentioned you zealously defend it. My,My aren't we proud of it. For you it's always been "What I believe" never "what Gurbani believes and says". You'll do anything to hold onto what other human beings have taught you rather than surrounding yourself to Gurbani completely. The bull point was literally one of the first things refuted in Japji Sahib.

  7. How would that work? I could take a course on Christianity or Buddhism and pass it with flying marks; does that mean I'm a Christian or Buddhist in those instances? Unless the underlying basis for this type of suggestion is that the person taking the course finds themselves drawn towards the Sikh faith whilst revising, and somehow they decide to become a genuine Sikh due to this newfound admiration and respect for the faith? That's a big "if" and human nature being what it is, many would treat such a course or test as they would a driving theory test or something similar. The process would be open to abuse, and dare I say, it'd be a bit of a joke.

  8. Thats a very good sakhi ms514, but I think it differs from the abrahamic proverb as it does not clarify the fact that generally, the rich person is spiritually poorer than the poor person. Growing up, I used to put the issue within our community down to the fact that the older generation (from India) had been brought up heavily influenced by the bhakti tradition where the relationship with God is seen as a very personal one....where personal wishes for material things are granted through prayer. I used to think that the younger western born Sikhs were all like me, where my relationship with God is seen more in terms of what I can do for others and never daring to ask for things in prayers. I've always felt that it would be obscene for me to ask waheguru to grant me something when the truth is he has every right to take things away from me bearing in mind how he has already given me so much. He's given me arms, legs, health, food and a roof over my head. These are things that so much of humanity doesn't have so how disgusting would it be for me to pray for more ? I was wrong however, for thinking that the western born Gursikhs around me think like me. Generally, they think exactly the same way as their parents. Alot of the blame for this must like with the multitude of jathas and parcharaks around these days. In a way of drawing patit Sikhs towards the fold they actively tell them how prayers can make their personal wishes come true and you'll be amazed just how many of today's younger generation amritdharis have become so on the foundation of such selfish principles. As I sit with these people as part of the sangat, i.e my brothers and sisters, the whole thing really does have a negative impact on my own spiritual well-being.

  11. That point is raised often. There isn't really a comparison to be made between the Hindu Janeoo and the Sikh Kakkars. Guru Ji refused to adopt the sacred thread because he was told that it would entitle him to salvation, that this cotton was invested with miraculous and otherworldly powers. We don't regard our kakkars in the same way, the are mainly symbolic, they are not necessary for salvation in the same way that the janeoo is claimed to be by Hindus. The Janeeo is inequality made manifest as a flimsy thread. Only Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaisya males are entitled to wear them. Guru Sahib's Panj Kakkars are available to all, irrespective of gender and caste.

  12. @YOYO29 Bro the best way that u Pakistani's can help Sikhs is to fight + campaign for Pakistan splitting up into smaller countries. As Pakistan is the glue that holds the rotten terrorist state called India together. The minute Pakistan disintegrates and fragments then so will India once Pakistan has collapsed totally. Also it would help if u as an Atheist try to expose Islam as the cancer it is. As remember atheists faking as Muslims on the outside control access to Nankana Sahib. So expose Islam on Muslim forums bro before the Muslims discover u are atheist + attempt to stone u to death. Don't say I didn't provide u enuff material ;-)

  15. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH In my limited experience: A) Disconnect from parchar and Gurudwaras. Where the Gurudwara should be central to the life of every Sikh, it has turned into a social and dollar buffet in many cases. Rare are the Gurudwarae that cater to the youth, have anything to connect them to Sikhi or anything in English or local language to cater to them. The Kathakars are, many times, relaying stories that the Western youth cannot relate to and there is a huge disconnect. the parchar fails to have any attraction to the youth. It caters to the adults. Our institutions, rather than feeding the spiritually hungry, are feeding the full or those who don't really want the spiritual food (Langar Gurshabad Da) that is being served. B) Actual explanation and spiritual discourse. There is a difference between doing Sooraj Parkash katha and engaging the Sangat. The youth cannot understand the parchariks to begin with, much less relate to the sakhis when they do understand. More effort to engage the Sangat is needed. I recently read some words from Sant Waryam Singh, who outlined that there are 14 qualities of Sangat and parcharik needed: some spoke of the need for the parcharik to actively scan the Sangat to see if it bored, and if so, wrap it up and move on. I have hardly ever seen any parcharik that will veer from his katha after actively surveying the Sangat. If the parchar actually was made to relate to the youth (perhaps by someone who was raised in the West and could relate to the youth...), it would be more effective. C) BIGGEST PROBLEM: Jeevan Vale Gursikhs doing parchar. Crossing all language and cultural barriers, this is by far something that has the greatest impact. Having seen Gursikhs who practice Gursikhi - Youth are automatically attracted to them. I attended a camp where an elder Gursikh spoke in 99% Punjabi with 85%+ Western born Sikhs - the youth followed this Gursikh around, listened to him intently, made the effort to understand and considered him a mentor. His kamai shone through his parchar and he was effective in inspiring many youth. THAT is the vital essence missing in a lot of Gurudwarae. D) Politics - nothing turns off the youth faster than fights and stupidity at Gurudwarae. Where you come for peace and spiritual upliftment has become a ground for politics, money and power struggles. This is something that the Sikhs as a whole need to sort out. E) Lack of youth involvement - most Gurudwaras are run by more elderly folks and see the youth as a threat to their power (see D). They will not let the youth get involved for fear the youth will take over and remove them from their seats (where most youth do not have the time to devote to this seva). If the elders actually rose above their petty power struggles, practiced Sikhi and inspired the youth to participate, they would actually be SECURING their positions in the Gurudwaras and would serve as good mentors for the youth. Sadly, many of the elders are less concerned with Sikhi and more with gaddhi (power). F) Parchariks = "dumbest of the village" - it is common knowledge that those Sikh kids who will amount to nothing in Indian villages are the ones that pursue Gyani/Granthi/Raagi jobs. Where Western society has ministers and pastors that attend college to obtain degrees (and sometimes PhD.) in Theology, ours are like puppy mills that churn out "parchariks" in a few months with very cursory education. Not every parcharik studies at a Taksal (Damdami, Jwaddi, etc.) and many just learn as they go and do what they see at the Gurudwara or what the committee tells them to do, with no regard to Maryada or Gurmat. How many Granthis/Keertanis/Gyanis actually wake up at Amritvela, do Simran, or have a Gursikh jeevan? How many are willing to stand up to the committee against manmat? Many are dependent slaves of the committee and do what the committee says, or they will lose their pay, the means to support their family or immigration status. This has an effect on the whole Sangat, not just the youth.

  18. I heard katha on the radio on this very subject a couple of days ago. The Giani Ji was discussing the role of wealth, money, and status in Sikh history (the accounts of Bhai Lalo and Malik Bhago, etc) and he graduated to a more philosophical angle about the nature of wealth itself. I thought to myself, "Here we go, you'll never hear a Sikh say money is bad for the soul, lol. Giani Ji probably retires to a luxurious multi-storied kothi in Chandigarh or somewhere similar when he returns home from his religious duties," but I became quite annoyed with my cynicism and decided to pay attention to what Giani Ji was saying. He mentioned that wealth in itself isn't necessarily evil or undesirable. He said that problems arise not due to the existence of money, but the failings in human nature that cause changes in our mentality when we are in pursuit of wealth or when we gain vast amounts of it. He went onto say that whilst it may seem on the surface that the causal event of developing ego, an unsympathetic demeanour, arrogance, etc, is due to wealth accumulation, but it is actually a weakness in mentality and a lack of enlightenment that changes a person for the worse who finds themselves surrounded by riches.

  19. Let me explain this by the caste division system. As you know there are 4 classes of people divided: 1)kshatriyas 2)brahmans 3)shudars 4)vaishyas Kshatriyas were the people who managed the empire (i.e kingdom),they were the kings. They also used to eat meat. But in Sri dasam granth some of them are said to be of high spirituality and resulting in "mukti". Some havans done by Brahmans also needed animal sacrifices too.Animal sacrifice is also related to the victory of goddess Durga on the demons. Sikhi is made by combining 4 classes(kshatriyas, brahmans, shudars, vaishyas) into a single person. That's the main reason Shri Harmandir Sahib has four doors ,explaining that it is open for all 4 classes.A Amritdhari(khalsa) can take life of someone for the purpose of selfdefence. But sacrificing and eating animals is not allowded in Sikhi due to the spiritual cost and the negative energy from the eating material. The universe is made by the God with "Maya" as he himself remain untouched to it.Maya further made 3 guns 1)Sato gun 2)Rajo gun 3)Tamo gun and then 5 elements were made. 1)sato gun is the state of mind of a person with compassion, faith, love etc. 2)Rajo gun is the state of mind of a person with intellectual skills, more interested in politics etc. 3)Tamo gun is the state of mind of a person who is short temppered, always ready to fight. Tamo gun is the lowest of these guns.Meat is a Tamo gun food.It increases tamo gun in us.Sikhi's ultimate aim is to reach the 4th gun state (Brahm gian) which can only be given by God not Maya ,after one reaches the state of sato gun then brahm gian is obtained. These answers will help you : Question: Master ji, we all know that it's very crucial to abstain from the eating of meat because this increases our karmas, but can you explain in more detail the reasons for becoming vegetarian? Thakar Singh: We should not increase our burden of karmas as you have already said. There is karmic value in every kind of thing we use in this world. The air we consume, we have to pay for. The water we use, we have to pay for. The light of the sun or moon is also not free for us, and this green grass is also to be paid for - nothing is free. Depending on the "Jun" (life-form), there is a price to be paid. Lower life forms have a lower price to pay. Plants have a lower spiritual price than animal life forms. So why take the higher burden? If you are to construct a house, you don't make it with gold or silver or jewels. If you can, you make the house with stone - Stone is very strong and cheap -- So, why don't you make your house with stone and bricks instead of gold? This body is like a house. Build it with material that is spiritually cheap and strong. Fruits and vegetables are spiritually cheap and they can make you spiritually and physically strong. Higher life-forms are expensive - and you will have to pay a higher price! In the same way, if we can maintain a simple life style, with a spiritually lower cost - with this greenery, fruits, etc - then why attract so much burden and payment of karma by consuming higher life-forms? God did not really say that it is "burden-less" or it is all free. He has never explained it like this, but He has allowed us to have these lower forms because with our meditations we can release ourselves very quickly and easily and therefore we will not "over-burden" ourselves for a long time. This is also the case with people who eat animals. Their nervous systems have been seriously disturbed and shaken. Even if you look at an animal that has been killed you will be emotionally affected; your nervous system will be disturbed and you will lose so much peace; you will not feel good and your heart will be affected by it. Look at a dying fish. It is out of water and if you look at it, for one or two hours or even some days your heart will not feel good. You will think of the condition of that fish and it will feel horrible and your heart and mind will be in some kind of perturbed state. For months even this state of mind will continue. Maybe after a long time you will forget this scene and its effect will be gone from your heart and then perhaps you cannot remember it - still it has its effect. If just looking at a dead fish causes this then what will be the case when we eat it and all these negative vibrations enter into our system. So many diseases will come up and our mental systems will be disturbed. But when we eat some greenery or fruit everything is wonderful. The plant produces the fruit for consumption by an animal so that the seeds can be transported to new places. In fact by eating the fruit you are doing a favour to the plant! - the fruit is a bait for the animal to do a function that the plant desires - That is the function of a fruit. If you look at fruit that is ripe the colors tell you so wonderfully that it is ripe. A fragrance is also available and when you smell it you enjoy it and even when you remember the smell you feel good. Your heart is also enjoying and your mind and body are at peace. Q. Flesh-eaters often say to vegetarian Sikhs, if you eat only vegetables you are also taking life. What, then is the difference between taking the life of, say, a pig and that of a vegetable? A. All the difference in the world. Does a potato cry out when it is taken from the earth the way a calf does when it is taken from its mother? Does a stick of celery scream in pain and terror when it is picked the way a pig does when it is being led to slaughter and is having its throat cut? And how sad, lonely, and frightened can a head of lettuce feel? We don't need a polygraph to demonstrate that plants have consciousness of a sort, but this consciousness is obviously of a rudimentary kind, far different from that of mammals with well developed nervous systems. Nor do we need tests to prove that fowls and pigs and sheep experience pain to the same degree as human beings, for it is common observation that animals wince, howl, wail, and show terror when abused or injured and make every effort to avoid pain. Actually many fruits and vegetables can be picked without killing or even harming the plants. These include berries, melons, legumes, nuts, seeds, pumpkins, and many other vegetables. Potatoes are taken from the ground after the plant has died. Most vegetables are annuals, harvested at or near the end of their natural life. In fact, there is considerable scientific evidence that the human physiology, like that of our closest living creatures - the great apes, is vegetarian in design. The structure of our skin, teeth, stomach and bowels, the length of our digestive system, the composition of our saliva, stomach acids and urine, etc. are all typically vegetarian. There is also a mountain of evidence proving that a meat-based diet contributes to a whole range of diseases. Many scientists now concede that fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and grains appear best suited to the human body. Finally, we know that we cannot subsist for long without food, and all food is matter that was once alive. But since we can subsist well and even thrive without meat, why take animal life in addition to the plant life we need to survive? Among certain spiritually oriented persons one will often hear this strange rationalization: "Sure, we eat meat", they say, "what of it"? What is most important is not what enters the stomach but what comes out of the mind! Although it is true that ridding oneself of one's delusions, breaking out of the prison of the ego-I into a life of sympathy with all sentient beings is paramount, how can we establish a sympathetic rapport with non-humans while we are feasting on them? "Do not cause pain to any creature, Go back to your Home with honour." (Sri Guru Granth Sahib, pg 322) Story of Bheesham Pitama In accordance to Hindu mythology, Draupadi asked the saint Sant Bheesham Pitama, why he had not come to her rescue when she was stripped of her clothing in Duryodans court. She queried him, saying that if he was a saint, why did he not raise his voice when evil was going on before his very eyes in Duryodanas court. He started to cry and said, Daughter, I shall tell you the truth; my mind became clouded by darkness as I had eaten in Duryodans house. Therefore, this shows how the love of God breaks away from a being as their mind becomes clouded by filth and prevents them from performing good deeds.

He replies with "Absolutely"!! His brother is the man, whos single-handedly changed the sikh community and our knowledge of sikhi and will continue to do so in this country and worldwide, via multi-lingual parchar, yet this guy has the nerve to call his brother jagraj, as radicalised! 25. Definition: Gurbani is a compound word composed of: Gur meaning guide or enlightener. Bani meaning word. Gurbani refers to the text of Sikhism's holy scripture, or the word ofGuru Granth Sahib. Sikhs revere the scripture of the Granth as their everlasting guru and consider Gurbani the means of enlightenment and salvation. The scripture of Guru Granth was preceded as guru by ten spiritual masters or gurus. http://sikhism.about.com/od/glossary/g/Gurbani.htm It appears that you're the one who sorely needs an education.

  27. Do you accept that Guru Gobind Singh Ji bestowed Guruship to SGGS Ji or not? It's that simple. By looking outside of SGGS Ji on Sikhism, are we not undermining SGGS Ji's authority? Why even bestow Guruship to SGGS Ji then? Sri Dasam Granth Ji was compiled much later. You are confused. You want to be a Hindu but yet remain within the Sikh panth. So you try to justify your Hindu beliefs by quoting material outside of SGGS Ji Maharaj. I suggest you go to a Mandir and satisfy your spiritual hunger from a Hindu perspective.

  28. Nobody in this day and age sacrificing anything by taking amrit. The situation back then and now is simply not comparable. Let's take the Kirpan as an example. Per my limited understanding, Guru Gobind Singh Ji prescribed the Kirpan as a weapon to be actually used in combat situation. A kirpan was the weapon back in the day. If I'm not mistaken, strictly speaking a Amardhari Khalsa is supposed to draw his kirpan and help those in need in a situation requiring a fight. Is this happening today or does the Khalsa simply whips out his smartphone and calls 911. LOL! Secondly, should Amardharis still use the Kirpan or upgrade to maybe a Glock in keeping up with technology? I apologize as i I understand the question sounds comical but on a serious note, what do you think? IMHO, So in effect, even todays Amardharis are not following what is prescribed as a Khalsa 100%. 29. Personally, I believe sacrifice is an essential part of Sikhi. I think it's basically about making that leap of faith and giving yourself upto something bigger than any of us, as exemplified by the moment when Guru Gobind Singh Ji plucked five men from a crowd who others assumed were walking off to their certain deaths. But, as we later realised, those five had such unshakable faith in their Guru they trusted his plan for them unbeknownst to them at the time. That's what taking Amrit is I think; "I'm yours, do with me what you will. I'm nothing." But, like I said, now there's none of that physical peril of the original moment in Sikh history, so in theory, all sorts step up in this modern era knowing it's all going to be fine. There's a few genuine souls who believe, in their hearts, that taking Amrit is a life-changing moment, and whilst their heads aren't at stake (literally speaking), their souls are. So, those individuals are the blessed few who get down to business and realise the golden opportunity they've been presented. Just my theories, I could be completely wrong BTW.

  30. To the best of my knowledge Sri Dasam Granth Ji was not written by Guruji Maharaj nor did Guruji Maharaj bestow it Guruship. It was only compiled much later. There is a thread on this in this very forum. From what I know it is rejected by Akal Takth and majority of panth. Strictly speaking, Gurbani is from SGGS Ji, period, no arguments. We may refer to other writings however authority comes from SGGS Ji. There is NO argument on this! That is why Guru Gobind Singh Ji bestowed Guruship to SGGS Ji precisely to avoid the type of arguments you are having now with everybody. If one can look elsewhere for rule/guidance on Sikhism, what was the point of bestowing Guruship to SGGS Ji Maharaj in the first place? I'm sorry but there is simply no argument on this. IMHO, if you believe you can obtain teachings of Sikhism outside of SGGS Ji Maharaj, you are not a Sikh anymore. Stop fooling yourself. IMHO I suspect you're a Hindu who is trying very hard to bridge Sikhism with Hinduism using material that is outside of SGGS Ji Maharaj. Why are you doing this? What is your motivation? Seriously. If you want to be a Hindu, go to a Mandir and be a Hindu to your hearts content. Why come to Sikhism and then try to 'Hindunize' Sikhism? You are obviously lost. Nobody is stopping you from practicing Hinduism. You are obviously very proud of your caste. So go to a Mandir and hang out at Hindu forums, they can cater to your spiritual needs. PS I have never heard a single Sikh who referred to a Gurdwara and Mandir and believes they can wash away by dipping in Ganges river, not a single one, and I'm well travelled. LOL!

  31. This is what I know and perhaps a Sikh scholar may correct me Gurbani = Guru Da Bani And our last Guru is SGGSji Maharaj. Therefore if you are going to claim it's Gurbani, it has to be from SGGS Ji, period, end of story. Once again, please point this out in SGGS Ji.

  33. Is your marriage 'arranged?' He is undermining you as a woman and as an adult your ability to either handle arguments or 'fights.' The reason he is involving your elders is to show you that you are still a kid! This is a typical behavior of asian men who have no confidence in themselves. This is definitely a sign of very low self esteem on his part you both need to work on this. Has he ever told you as to why he is involving your parents? If not, ask him. I can only think of one reason and that is that they can all gang up on you and blame you for starting the fight.

  37. It's not the wealth that changes a person, it's the ahankar that one starts to possess that changes a personality. The wealth is also a daat according to one's karm, but it's about how one can maintain it so they do not forget God and humanity. When the ego of the wealth takes over, the soul becomes empty or reduced of the qualities one once had. But to be able to balance, is also with Gods grace. For example there are two families i know who are very wealthy, one who don't have ahankar and treat others as themselves, go to India and clean the "naaliah", gutters in their pind, and it reflects upon their children too. But the other doesn't care of nobody but themselves due to the wealth. Also another that drives an old car, but can afford a Ferrari. Why? Because wealth made his soul empty. One would never think he had the wealth, but the qualities of s humble person are still there. Why are they different as both have wealth ? Akal and cherishing Gods name keeps the first family stable as they haven't forgotten what they were before they came wealthy, whereas the other family have as wealth came, the ahankar took over, and they forgot their past.

  38. Any religion that has rituals/rites which are Earth bound will remain earth Bound. That was Guru Nanak refuting that claim. Later on he says. Then in the Dasam Granth it was mentioned again this time by being used as a means to convey the point that the battle was so intense it felt like the entire world was shaking. A point to note is that Earthquakes can be triggered very easily, by men alone. Maybe you should take a look up at the night Sky, open up an astronomy book. I know you have a massive allergy to learning but it might do you good to know that it's not some bull holding the world in place but Gravity. A part of GOD'S power. Oh look, I see science has said the same as Gurbani. Wonder how that happened. You just admitted Castes as a form of Maya, aka their false. Are you now saying that all the Saints who wwalked the Earth were bound by MAYA? ok then Yes you are. You're purposely adding whatever Hindu ideology you want into the mix. In every Amrit Sanchar people go to die. They kill their old self and their caste, self etc all become nothing. Anyone who starts referring to their caste after taking Amrit is breaking the very oath they took. The fact that you keep running from my question is only proving to everyone that you're Hinducentric views are nonsense but you don't want to admit you're wrong. You'd rather just suggest Gurbani is or start tampering around till it fits you. Like it or not but you're the one who's vain. You're kind of thinking is keeping the Caste system going despite the fact Guru Sahib completely discarded it.

  40. Maybe you should look up some of them before passing baseless statements as usual. The Dasam Granth also uses the bull that supports the Earth according to some Hindu Beliefs as a means to convey how devastating a battle was. I GUESS NOW THERE ACTUALLY IS A BULL SUPPORTING THE EARTH. Let's ignore Japji Sahib where is deemed false So yes or no. Did the Guru Sahib's body have a caste. Just specify. I just posted Gurbani which states that a saint's body is pure. But you're defiling it by adding a caste onto it. SO YES OR NO DID THE GURU SAHIB'S BODIES HAVE A CASTE OR NOT. Only person with any hankar is you who decides to change Gurbani and Guru Gobind Singh Ji

  43. It's just the way things turn out for some of us. But sitting amongst the sangat when listening to Gurbani or vichaar is essential IMO. It's the communal sense of spiritual togetherness that Gurbani recommends if I'm not mistaken. However, I don't take it any further than that. In that case be mindful not to exchange one type of bad crowd for another, for whilst that kind of religiously social interaction - especially if you're of an impressionable age - may seem like a world away from your alcohol consuming friends, there's usually other vices that the so-called pious are riddled with beneath the surface, and before you know it you've been dragged into that world without even realising it, as Balkaar Singh points out.

  44. Very well said. Too many people wrongly take 'Sadh Sangat' to mean the congregation that gathers within a Gurdwara, which can easily be made up of nindaks (and is more often than not).

  45. I know lots of cases of Sikh men with Christian brides being prevented so I have no idea why your mind is trying to convince you its a sikh 'girl' thing. In fact I was involved last year with the sitting down of an apna and his Latvian girlfriend (who incidentally was stunning......supermodel material). She wanted the Gurdwara wedding because of the lovely "colours" and "culture" etc. We sat them down and explained how Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is our living Guru as Sikhs and marrying in a Gurdwara in front of him should never be seen as simply a great photo opportunity for the wedding album. At the end of the conversation, she understood perfectly. I'm guessing they got themselves a registered wedding at the town hall as I've seen a little baby with them in the Gurdwara recently, and she seems to be really into Sikhi these days. I think it says more about the shortcomings in your own thought process so might perhaps be an issue you need to sort out on your own ? What I mean is you so much want a certain thing to be the truth that you have convinced your mind that it is so and ensured that such a thing is the only thing you see and notice ?
