  1. We ought to have complete faith in Guru Sahibs and Gurbani. As Baba Nand Singh says "A guest of many homes stays hungry". Relying on multiple peers, fakirs, babas will get us nowhere and will just end up frustrating us. As we are well aware of miracles- manifesting physical reality instantaneously out of thin air. Requires utmost believe in GOD. Since all things exist in NOW (AKAL) time is an illusion, a healthy and complete version of one also exist NOW. Its a matter of ones belief. The Sakhi from Anand Chamatkar of Baba Nand Singh- A group of villagers came to Baba ji saying a disease is killing farm animals what should we do?

  3. Do you know what an Hazara even looks like Dallysingh ? They have chinese style eyes. No Star Striker. The Afghan Sikhs are 100% Arora. No other Sikh group exists among them. Its an interesting facet of Sikh history actually because historically, in terms of business, the areas of the Sikh empire were divided up by the Khatris and the Aroras. Because the Aroras were considered 'lesser' khatris, the Khatris themselves had the whole of Punjab proper and potowar, Kashmir etc and gave the whole of the extreme north west of Punjab and the North West Frontier region (Pathan territory) for the Aroras. Thus, the Khatris had a business manopoly of Punjab proper and the the Aroras had a complete monopoly of the whole of the north west. Interestingly though, if one goes even further north west and by-passes the Arora areas and ventures into Iran, we find that it is the Khatris that had (and still have) the business monopoly in Iranian cities such as Zahedan and Tehran and no aroras exist there at all. But, for the purposes of this discussion, we must remember that virtually all of the Afghan Sikhs are Aroras. All of them. The fact that you posted that link, jacfsing2, shows that you completely misunderstand Sikh history in those parts. You've posted a picture of Peshwari Sikhs in Pakistan without understanding that there is a very vast difference between the Afghan Sikhs and the Pakistani Sikhs of the north west frontier. The oonly real common denominator is the closeness and family ties between the arora sikhs of the cities of Jalalabad in Afghanistan and Peshawar in Pakistan. Both these comminuties, united by blood and marriage, are 100% pure arora, with no pathan blood in them. At the other end of the scale, we must remember that most of the Sikhs in Afghanistan are from the city of Kabul and that city (Kabul) is and always has been a distinctly Tajik and Uzbek city, so the local culture of the Sikhs is not pathan culture at all, as pathan influence in that city has always been minimal. Now, lets cross back across the Khyber Pass into Pakistan and we then have to consider a totaly unique Arora Sikh community that exists deep inside the rural tribal mountain areas well away from the towns and cities. Amongst those arora Sikhs there is indeed some very heavy mixing with pathan blood and that can be clearly seen in their features and skin colour. These arora sikhs actually live and die by pathan culture and their surnames are also names that proclaim their ties to the local clans, such as Afridi. To understand this phenonema we have to first understand the murder madness of partition 1947. The arora sikh small time traders were already living amongst those pathan clans and as the pathans live and die by their official 'code of honour' called the 'Pakhtoonwali', that code of honour dictated that they MUST, absolutely MUST, treat those fellow tribal area dwellers as their 'Hamsaya', or guest. The Pakhtoonwali code of honour dictates that they have absolutely no choice but to protect the life and homes of those Sikhs. Each individual pathan clan in each individual pathan tribal area did exactly that and thats why none of those sikhs moved to India at partition. Very good poing Balkar. Many of the arora Afghan Sikhs we see in Southall and Hounslow are indeed very very fair but, as you qute rightly say, they are also very short and stocky and that kind of body size and shape is virtually non-existent amongst the pathans. Why are you even saying that buddasingh ? Do not be afraid of knowledge. There are, at this moment, a large proportion of the Muslim community who not only refuse to acknowedge that crimnal elements exists amongst them that have religious attire but also, as you have done, try and stamp on and shut up anyone that mentions it. Don't be so afraid of knowledge. It is only by acknowledging our shortcomings that we will be able to overcome them. We can't let things carry on as they are. But, I'm extremely surprised you didn't understand anything I wrote and came to the conclusion that I'd "generally described the modus operandi of a wide array of the Punjabi doaspora" How on earth can you come to that conclusion ? I mean how many other Sikhs groups do you know who marry their chacha's daughter ? Pooah's son.......Thaya's children ? How many other Sikhs groups do you know who have a 'Sikh' culture whereby religion is only for the males and their wives MUST...as a RULE....have mega make-up, cut hair, blonde dyed hair, tatoos and dressed like a high class hooker ? (now you may think I'm joking here but ask any other west London Sikh. They'll tell you how every last one of these afghan sikhs has a dastar and yet every last one of them has a wife who is dressed and made up like a tart........This is because, in their extremely strange version of Sikhi, a woman has no business being a Sikh, i.e it is only for males, and she must, as per Muslim culture, make and keep herself 'sexy' to please her man)

  4. Is Bikrami a Hindu Calendar ? What is actually Bikrami Calendar? A calendar is a system of organizing days for social, religious, commercial or administrative purposes. This is done by giving names to periods of time, typically days, weeks, months, and years. A date is the designation of a single, specific day within such a system. Periods in a calendar (such as years and months) are synchronized with the cycle of the sun or the moon. Bikrami Calendar starts with installation of King Vikramaditya as Emperor of India 2072 years ago. When he became Emperor, the royal stamp and coins started in his name carried the year of his becoming King. As he is considered a just and pious ruler, the calendar continued even after death of King Vikram and ending of reign of his dynasty from India. It is mostly followed in Northern India. While in Hindi Belt it is called Vikram Samvat, in Punjab ( which includes East Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Kashmir, West Punjab and upto borders of Iran) it is called Bikrami Sammat. Now, important point to be understood. Bikrami is the name of Calendar started in honour of Vikramaditya, it was an administrative system, but this Calendar itself (Dating system) was prevalent even before King Vikram. It is only his ascension to the thrown of Ujjain which took place 2072 years ago, but the Calendar itself was being used all over this region thousands of years before him for Social, religious and commercial purposes. What was and is this system which was present before Vikram and is present till today ? This Calendar, or dating system, is called LUNISOLAR CALENDAR. There are Lunar Calendars and Solar Calendars in use on our Planet. Solar Calendar counts Days and dates as per Earth's revolution around the Sun, while the Lunar Calendar is based on Moon's movement around Earth. Solar Calendar is approx 365 days long while Lunar year is 354-355 days long. This Lunisolar Calendar is based on movements of BOTH the Moon and Sun. While Full Moon Day is End of Month and New Moon Day is beginning of Month in Lunar aspect of Calendar, Movement of Sun in correspondence to Constellations of Our Galaxy determines the beginning and End of Month. This subject is related to astronomy, geography and mathematics. Worship of Sun and Moon is different subject and topic, but studying their Movement and carrying out calculations to create Calendar is not worship of Planets and Stars. Afterall, it is not a Brahmin or a Hindu who holds and revolves Earth around Sun, or who revolves Moon around Earth. All the movement of Stars, revolution and rotation of Planets and Moons is happening with Hukam of Akaal Purkh Waheguru. Calling Bikrami Calendar a ''Hindu Calendar'' is part of divisive propaganda and mischievious lies being spread by these people. They know how to fool gullible Sikhs and emotionally blackmail them. Those who know about India and Hinduism, they know that every region of India has a different aspect of Lunisolar in use. Maharashtra has its own Calendar, South India, Bengal, Assam, Orissa and other regions have their own very different calendars. Some Hindus celebrate New Year on Diwali, some on Makar Sakranti, some on Vaisakhi and some in Chaitra. Calling the Lunisolar Calendar a Hindu Calendar is absurd and foolishness in itself. Lunisolar calculation system bases itself on movement of Sun, Moon and Earth, which happens in will of Akal Purkh. Any one, a Sikh, a Hindu, a Muslim or Jew or Buddhist can study these movements and positions and use them for their Social and Religious and Political Calendars. Many of you who might not know this. This Lunisolar Calendar was used in ancient times by Greeks, Mayans, Babylonians and Egyptians. In present times, this Lunisolar calendar is used by - Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims (Muslims go a step further and use only LUNAR aspect of this Calendar to determine their festivals) Christians, Chinese, Japanese, Parsis and many more nations, communities and tribes around the world. This very system was being used in Ancient Punjabaswell. Our Guru Sahibans also used this prevalent Calendar in their day-to-day lives. Please read Gurbaani of Baba Farid Ji, a Sufi Muslim Saint, who belonged to Punjab and walked on these lands a thousand years ago- ਕਤਿਕ ਕੂੰਜਾਂ ਚੇਤਿ ਡਉ ਸਾਵਣਿ ਬਿਜੁਲੀਆਂ || ਸੀਆਲੇ ਸੋਹੰਦੀਆਂ ਪਿਰ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਹੜੀਆਂ ||੬|| As the swallows appear in the month of Katik, forest fires in the month of Chayt, and lightning in Saawan, and as the bride's arms adorn her husband's neck in winter;||6|| (Ang 488) He used not Islamic Calendar but the prevalent Punjabi Calendar in his Baani. Thousand years have not changed anything. Swallows still come in Kattak to visit open lands which are getting cooler (as winter nears), and clouds and lightning still decorate the Sky in month of Saawan. 5. WJKKWJKF I have a query in my mind.Since our birth we are taught about achieving materialistic things for example in our school time we are expected to work hard and attain good marks then we are constantly motivated for good job and so on .Now how is it possible to change our attitude towards worldy things and just accept our life the way God has written our destiny.we are surrounded by motivational and inspirational speakers defining happiness with success.and thus giving us successmantras like constant hard work and focus and bla bla which I believe is all moh maya. How can we change our attitude and get a sense of dettachment from wordly things.

Certainly stress does play a part in affecting one in how to manage their condition, and can exaggerate it. He has a good point about positive thoughts creating happiness and energy. I have nothing against the lady on the tv, some of her talks are good. But, I was recently invited to a Satsang of Brahmakumaris, but I didn't go so left it at that.

  9. Lets not forget the Afghan Sikhs 90% of them help built and fund for the new Guru Maneyo Granth Gurdwara in Slough. Lets not forget it is the Afghan Sikh community that does the Jore Ghar sewa in any big events in West London, just to mention a few. First you should not involve caste and cultures or hate against them. But if you decide to then don't just write negatives please also include the positives. We have become what mahraj says Hindu is one eyed and musulmaan is blind

  10. I think at the heart of debilitating negativity are thought waves. We are lucky as Sikhs that our religion actually has techniques that (amongst other things) are designed to combat these and help speed up the process (and that's what it is: a process) of healing from emotional/psychological hurt. Speaking from experience. Forcing yourself to do paat, even with your brain zooming all over the place and being overpowered by negative thought-waves arising from your experiences, helps break up the thought patterns. That's the secret. It's the thoughts being generated from your munh that are making you feel bad. You have to firstly disrupt them, this helps them go away faster. But the healing wont happen overnight - as said before, it is a process - and it will take its own time. Let the rhythms of the bani help fight back the feelings you are having and help you take back control of your mind. You'll soon find certain bani seems to help you more when you do this. Sukhmani Sahib is universally known to help people, but personally I also find the hard rhythms of Jaap Sahib very strengthening. Recognise the emotions/feelings that you are having and recognise that you have to transcend them. Tell yourself it will happen. Avoid wallowing in the emotions you are feeling.

  11. Our strength is Wahiguru alone. When we are left alone at some time or other, our mind tries to run outwards as that it has been doing since aeons. And there out again it finds nothing but mere shadows and smoke, which is all maya about. The real peace, Sukhmani, the real Amrit, is within us. And thanks to our Guru Sahibans, through the Bani, we should follow their instructions diligently and faithfully to be able to have a sip of that Amrit, and become Sat Chit Anand, which means, one with Wahiguru Akal Purukh. 14. Kaurp, its really hard but balance is key. Before u settle in the perfect stable sehaj middle of the balance, you will tip either too much to worldly side or to viraag side. You must decide the middle ground yourself after experimentation. The goal is that u can perform ur worldly duties, ur farz to ur parents, to society, to the panth while being able to keep naam or remembrance of god 24/7. This is almost impossible especially in the beginning so one must decide which to give importance to. The best thing is to do everything but not to have hopes or desires and spend at least 2 hours on simran prayers daily if ur serious. So go to school, study hard, but dont care about the materialistic rewards. Do it cuz its hukam, and leave the rewards to god. Also the hukam/destiny thing is hard to fathom. So just remember not to do a good action that u r capable of is also paap. So to lie is bad, but to stay quiet and not tell the truth when it could be helpful is also bad. To be cruel, is to be bad, but not stopping cruelty is also bad. So if u see an injustice happening and dont do anything, ur creating bad karma and it will effect ur naam simran. When an injustice is happening over which u have no control, u can do nothing to stop, then its hukam. Accept it and move on. Its like Assissi's prayer. Hukam is more complicated but this how i simplify it for myself. Also watch basics of sikhi videos about hukam. In their marriage series they talk about how to live that balanced life. Maybe simran345 can find those videos. She is good at that :)

  16. yes Jaangli people were all Muslims. They were martial as well but no match for the Sikh settlers who were all war veterans. I searched online on a Punjabi dialect map and apparently there was also a Punjabi dialect called Jangli belonging to that area. So I guess that's why the original inhabitants of that ilaaka were also called Jaangli. I once asked an old Sikh man a few years ago who was from Sargodha and he also told me that the original inhabitants of that land were also Jaangli. He has passed away now.My grand mother (Nani ji)who was born in Lailpur tells me that her mother and father settled in Lailpur from Amritsar. My Nana was also born in Lailpur and their family was also originally from Amritsar. They cleared the jugles and with a lot of hard work made that land productive. So they felt very sad when they had to leave such rich land during partition. After partition they were settled in Amritsar but in different villages not their village of origin. They settled in a house and village whose former occupant (Muslims) left for Pakistan. My Nanke recieved land that also included a Muslim graveyard and a Sufi shrine was right next to their house. Sufi shrine is still there but the graveyard got farmed over.

If we have to do this how can we change our society and remove evils? My original question was is it right to work for attainment of worldly things or should we be just satisfied with the way our life is and just concentrate on naam simran.

  20. Dear F10wer Jee, the words above mean, that whatever pain or pleasure we get, is per the law of karma, action/reaction, made by Nature. And so, nothing happens by chance, it is all our own seeds. Then, it also means, whom to blame for our misfortunes? Naturally, none others than ourselves. Because we have a feeling, that only I am right, so if anything wrong happens, we curse others or blame them, and start carrying a heavy load of karmic debt on our heads. And whom to praise for our success? Naturally not our efforts, but His grace alone, thus we do not fall into ego, or seek the fruits of good karma. This creates a sense of lightness, or a sincere humility in us, which brings us closer to Wahiguru. T hen we come to understand, that pain or pleasure are due to my own karmas, and Wahiguru has nothing to do with all that, and so, if I want to overcome the tentacles of karmas, of maya, of mind.... I have no other option than, that of doing that which will take me out from this nonsense, and lead me to His Charan Kamal... And sangat jee, that is nothing else than the pure jugtee of His Simran. Sat Sree Akal.

  21. Dear kaurp, as per my understanding, we need 3 powerful adds on us, to overcome moh maya or detachment from worldly things: 1)Sadh Kee Sangat 2)Bani 3)Nishkant(selfless) sewa And then last, but not least, take out yourself(ego), which is quite difficult, for that we need a lot of kamaee, and see Wahiguru in all . By dropping off the ego, then only He remains. Sikhee, is all that about only. Sat Sree Akal.

With respect, for someone who wasn't even born when these events took place and now reliant on books by people like AR Darshi, who I think is not the worst of the novelists pretending to be academics and historians, you actually expect me to entertain a debate on whether Harminder Singh Sandhu.....one of the closest Singhs to Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa....was a traitor/coward? Hahaha Have you ever read a book where it wwas said that Sant ji had given Sandhu special insrtuctions for post conflict? No you haven't. We didn't lose the physical war until we lost this media war. That was Sandhu's fortè. To stop that is why he was killed and thus attempted and almost succeeded in isolating Generals like Bramha and Manochahal from the sohan sing aligned kharkhus. Even though the Singhs of BKI KCF KLF BTFK were tight, badal, barnala, tohra and ramuwaalia used people like Dr sohan Singh to create inter org violence. You won't find this in books or debate friend.

But God can also grace change. Why do you want to detach from the world? The Gurus didn't tell us to run off into the mountains. We are not sadhus or perfect. 27. Putting aside the rights and wrongs of it - I offer no judgement on those issues - the answer to your question is this: walk away. From everything. But we aren't supposed to do that. It flies in the face of everything Gurbani instructs. You're meant to find a half-way house to reside. If you believe hard work and focus is "bla bla" because you can't be bothered to apply yourself, then that's a poor attitude. Best to find a wealthy husband so you won't have to worry about the bills, and then pray away to your heart's content.

  28. In theory, this is a nice little thread. I salute not2cool2rgue's valiant effort to instigate an intellectual discussion based on historical events. The man (or woman....for, in my experience, it is mostly women with whom you shouldn't argue......unless you (unlike me) are capable of making your own roti) deserves upmost respect for starting this thread. Ordinarily, I'd be in my element on this thread but there;s something about it that reminds me of what I teach my boys when I sit them down for one my 'history lectures' and for that reason, I'm going to rewind a generation before the American Civil War and tell you Sikh brothers and sisters that it is the American War of Independance that s most relevant to we, the Sikhs......and one that we should not relent in reminding not only the Indians about but also using as a lobbying tool amongst American Senators and Congresmen, for it is one that would make the entire American nation understand and support our cause: Let us, of course, remind ourselves how the Indians refer to the night of 31st October 1984 in Delhi where 5000 Sikhs were murdered and 10000 Sikh women were gang-raped, as a 'riot'. Keep that thought in your mind for one moment. Now though, transplant yourselves to America in 1770. It was a nation ruled by the British. It was part of Britain. There were some that were OK with that and there were some that wern't. The ones that wern't were labelled 'terrorists' by the govt and subjected to the kind of torture, imprisonment and death that the Sikhs of India 2016 know only too well as the present rather than 'history'. But then came something that happened in Boston on March 5th 1770. The British murdered a lot of Americans. It was not the first time. They'd murdered Americans before but what made this different is the word that they used. It was a massacre. Even a child who had no concept of the word 'massacre' knew that this type of killing must be a massacre. The British however, refused to call it a 'massacre'. Instead, they described it as a 'riot'. There were debates in the British Parliament about whether what happened in Boston could be called a 'riot' even though it was clearly a massacre. In the end though, after the debates, they realised how semantics could either chalenge or reinforce their rule so.....They described it as the 'Boston Riot'. At that point, the entire American nation became united. They realised that if the occupying force can describe thier mass murder as a 'riot' rather than the massacre that it was than that must mean that they (the occupying force) must place a very low value on theirs and their children's lives. And so, from that moment, because the words 'riot' and 'massacre' meant so much to people who genuinely believed in self-determination and freedom, the American revolution was born. From that moment, because of that reason, it became the entire American nation against the British, and we all know who won that one. And so, every story, or every post, must have a moral and I suppose the moral of this one is that we shouldn't be looking for inspiration in the American Civil War when then the American War of Idependance just a few years before, shows us that their catalyst is our catalyst. Should we not be showing the most powerfull and influential nation on earth tthat we are them ?

As you are an intelligent lady, and know how to access these services, I also suggest you see a counsellor, who will help you with these problems you are going through.

  30. If you can't do paat yourself, then listen to the audio instead, on your phone or any audio device on low volume before sleeping. How is your sleep pattern? Some positive quotes to reflect upon:

  31. Kaurp penji, it is difficult to cope when one is going through a stressful time and feeling alone. But you need to prepare yourself with tools to help you cope through the bad phases. Just take a step back and take some deep breaths, then think you are not alone, God is with you. I understand that you do not feel like doing paat. This is also a normal reaction when one is depressed from the situation they are in. Don't worry about perfection or time limits or expecting to achieve this or that. You are going through a negative stage and you need to be around positivity. Your mind is getting stuck in a traffic jam of all sorts of thoughts, thus the route is not clear to think confidently. You need to divert from crying to doing something else when the emotions start to take over. Crying is not a bad thing, it also relieves some stress, but don't let the emotional side take over. Do you do any relaxation exercises? Another thing you can try is to listen to a shabad that you can relax to. This will help your mind to unwind and the traffic to ease slowly. You need to be in company of positive people, like friends or relatives or join a group. If that is not possible, then I suggest try going to the Gurdwara and sitting in Sangat. You are not alone, there are many people that are in similar situations. Every time one falls they must get up, again and again, until they become strong to either get out of negative situations or be able to cope with them. I think I've put this shabad on before, but here it is again: http://youtu.be/zSASouF4jyg As well as the shabad Paji Singhbj has added, contemplate on this shabad also: https://m.soundcloud.com/veermanpreet/mohe-deen-ko-raakh I'm not sure if I will if any use, but if you want to pm me penji to talk you can.

  32. Part 2 Continued Did Pal Singh Purewal create the Sikh Calendar ? In the Calendar, Pal Singh Purewal and his associates have taken the shelter of mendacious assertions and perfidious lies and till date neither Purewal nor his associates, could either confront or controvert or weaken in any manner the following historical facts pointed out by me and other scholars exposing the misleading lies of Mr Purewal: Before introduction of this distorted Calendar, a Sikh Calendar was/is used, and Nanakshahi Samvat was also used. This fact has been highlighted in 1993, long before the so-called Nanakshahi Calendar was introduced, in the Oxford Dictionary of World Religions(EdJohn Bowker): The Sikhs religious Calendar is a modified form of the Bikrami Calendar. (p 188). The first perfidy of Mr Purewal was exposed, who claimed that he is the architect of the Sikh Calendar. Secondly, the tall claim of Mr Purewal that he is the maker of Nanakshahi Calendar, which is original, was also exposed as it is nothing but a carbon copy of the National Calendar of India, introduced in March 1957 by Indian Government as a Civil Calendar, and is based on Saka Calendar, on which the Hindu Religious Calendar is also based. In the Nanakshahi Calendar and the National Calendar of India, five months are of 31 days and seven months are of 30 days. Whereas in Saka Hindu Calendar the month of Chet is of 31 days in during leap year and in Nanakshahi the month of Phagan is of 31 days. Mr Purewal has confirmed this fact in his book Jantri 500 Years, saying The Saka year that starts in Common Era leap year will also be a leap year. The year will always begin on March 21 is a leap year. This way the months of the Saka Era will maintain constant relationship with those of CommonEra. (p iv). In this way, Mr Purewal cleverly introduced the National Calendar of India, based on Saka Calendar (on which the Hindu Religion Calendar is based) as Nanakshahi Calendar. Interested readers may consult The Hindu Religious Year by M.M. Underhill (1921). On January 31, 2003, RSS Chief Sudarshan loudly proclaimed that they will not allow the implementation of Nanakshahi Calendar, since the Sikhs are already using Hindu Saka Calendar, and not knowing that the Sikhs are using Sikh Calendar, a modified form of Vikarmi Calendar (The Tribune, Chandigarh). Mr Pal Singh Purewal, who was up till that time had proposed Khalsa Samvat Calendar, immediately switched to Indian National Saka Calendar, and obliged the RSS bosses. The so-called Nanakshahi Calendar was released about two months later on Vaisakhi, April 14, 2003 AD, and RSS was happy, and remained silent. RSS was happy that what they failed to achieve in 50 years, was achieved it with one stroke through Comrade Purewal. Our present day political outfits, who are not competent to win any election, are easing their tensions by using political jargons and polemics to outwit their opponents, but without much success. They are free to use any language for their political tussle, but my objection is that in this dirty political games of unprincipled politics they are using the Guru, his Bani and his calendar as shield to promote their brand of religion; diluted, distorted and full of individualism and not of ecumenicalism, for which our Scriptures preach. They follow the commandments of RSS on Dasam Granth, and loudly preach that Dasam Granth is not the Granth of the Khalsa, as Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale said, but call it a Hindu Granth and had the audacity to use the name of Sant Jarnail Singh to promote Khalistan movement, particularly Dr Amarjit Singh of Washington. Let him clear his stand on his loyalty to the exposition of Sant Jarnail Singh with his views whether the Sikhs are interested to follow his Camel' ride to Himalaya or Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Dasam Granth? Here, I am reminded of words of wisdom by Jeannette Bastian, which reads: "A community without its records is a community under siege, defending itself, its identity and its version of history, without a firm foundation on which it stand." This is the dilemma of RSS as well as the half-baked Gianis, active only on Newspapers, Electronic Media and You Tube.
