  1. This is a good one to watch. This stuff may massively effect Panjab. In what way is unpredictable right now:

  2. Iran is apparently very wealthy (resource wise i.e. gas and oil) but has been on the receiving end of western sanctions for decades. I don't know about SA though. The economy of Iran is a mixed economy with a large state-owned sector and is the largest in the Middle East in terms of nominal GDP.[dubious – discuss] It is the world's 21st largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). Some 60% of Iran's economy is centrally planned.[26] It is dominated by oil and gas production, although over 40 industries are directly involved in the Tehran Stock Exchange. The stock exchange has been one of the best performing exchanges in the world over the past decade.[27] With 10% of the world's proven oil reserves and 15% of its gas reserves, Iran is considered an "energy superpower".[28][29][30][31][32] Iran is an energy superpower and the petroleum industry in Iran plays an important part in it.[2][3][4] In 2004, Iran produced 5.1 percent of the world's total crude oil (3.9 million barrels (620,000 m3; 160 million US gal) per day), which generated revenues of US$25 billion to US$30 billion and was the country's primary source of foreign currency.[5][6] At 2006 levels of production, oil proceeds represented about 18.7% of gross domestic product (GDP). However, the importance of the hydrocarbon sector to Iran's economy has been far greater. The oil and gas industry has been the engine of economic growth, directly affecting public development projects, the government's annual budget, and most foreign exchange sources.[5] In FY 2009, the sector accounted for 60% of total government revenues and 80% of the total annual value of both exports and foreign currency earnings.[citation needed] Oil and gas revenues are affected by the value of crude oil on the international market. It has been estimated that at the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) quota level (December 2004), a one-dollar change in the price of crude oil on the international market would alter Iran's oil revenues by US$1 billion.[5] In 2012, Iran, which exported around 1.5 million barrels of crude oil a day, was the second-largest exporter among the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.[7] In the same year, officials in Iran estimated that Iran's annual oil and gas revenues could reach $250 billion by 2015.[8] However, the industry was disrupted by an international embargo from July 2012 through January 2016.[9][10] Iran plans to invest a total of $500 billion in the oil sector before 2025.[11][12]

  4. He mentioned she was the one who rejected proposals, not the men. So she chose not to get hitched in her early years.

  5. Well, why wasn't she snapped up before? I've seen girls with horrendous reps (full on hoes) getting hitched to respectable families just because they were pretty.

  6. Maybe she lost the 'prettiness' in her 40s.

  7. Why do you think they were rejecting her? Normally, pretty women get snapped up?

  8. The prospective bride was lucky. I know a girl, pretty looking who for years rejected rishtay from keshdari boys, truck drivers, office clerks and shes now in her 40s still at home watching hindi serials waiting for her prince charming.

  9. I know a family who called off an engagement when the prospective bride was seen with a rash on her hands. It was just a temporary thing because they were moving house at the time and cleaning stuff. Apparently, she wasn't wearing gloves when using various spray cleaners, etc, and her hands reacted to the chemicals. ? Mentalists.

  10. Yep reap what you sow! However I will say this, sometimes it is our own fault for girls marrying out. Too many of us lack a caring nature and can be ridiculously harsh on our own with disabilities. I've heard a story were a cripple Sikh girl ended up marrying a muslim because apne couldn't look past it. Some families reject girls whose father is ill thinking that her offspring may get the same illness. Pathetic.

  11. I really don't think those families are interested in continuing sikhi and sometimes marrying our of culture can be a good thing for them instead of corrupting sikh families. Some of these girls will mess up sikh families, there are exceptions, some girls will follow sikhi better if she marries into a good family. It's a gamble though with these girls from these families, especially if they are drinking or hookah/sheesha smoking girls, maybe dressing nangi on instagram, or demanding clean shaven or haircut; then it's probably best to stay away from these families instead of marrying!

  12. Every reply in this thread has been cracking. Great contributions; lots to think over and absorb. It's also clear to me how easy it is to veer off course when trying to understand the absolute core of what Sikhi is telling us. We, as humans, impose our pre-existing beliefs, practices, and prejudices on matters that the nuances of which are - as the saying goes - finer than a hair's breadth. The distinction between what's correct and what's inaccurate is such a fine line to tread. Unlike other faiths we perhaps don't portend doom for people around us and humanity in general if our comprehension of Sikhi isn't as firm as it should be, but for the sake of establishing clarity in our own minds, and therefore allowing us to be productive and good Sikhs and humans in general, we owe it to ourselves to truly comprehend what our faith's scriptures are saying to us, and not arrive at a rough estimation based on skewed information or occasionally outright false assumptions built on things we suppose to be accurate. I use to hear it growing up and i didn't quite understand the impact of it, but I'm beginning to realise that Sikhi is truly not an easy path to follow. Of course, the rewards for doing so are in themselves worth undergoing the tough journey.

  13. I sometimes think we approach bani in the way a Christian looks to the bible or the Muslim looks to the Koran. Bani is the living guru. What bani does is bring out what exists in you already. We argue on the forum using quotes from the Guru Granth Sahib to prove our point. In a way we act very abrahamically. I think the reason for bani is that some people "don't get it" and need examples over and over again to understand. Others will "get it " intuitively, ultimately it's all within you. I do agree with Dally that the British presence has impacted how we see Sikhi and I think that the western mindset is very black and white and they do not get contradictions the way an Eastern mindset understands. Unfortunately, we have to live the Ghristi Jeevan life, we could make it easy for ourselves and live like monks or hermits but part of mother nature is to ensure that the next batch of sentient life-forms are born through re-production and have the opportunity of gaining mukhti. The beauty of spiritual living is to see how it copes with everyday living with all the fustrations that it entails. To help with that you need the pragmatic understanding of human nature. The pragmatism and spiritualism are not mutually exclusive, they work hand in hand. The westernised brain would call this duality. But the reality is if you embrace both sides there is no more duality. You see it's all part of Maharaj's hukam, and it is all part of larger game that is played. Maharaj has a great sense of humour. I always ask the question as to why Dashmesh Pita wrote the Dasam Bani and why it is a lot less known in contemporary times. But I think you already as well as other posters have answered that question.

  15. Vaheguru ji ka khalsa, Vaheguru ji ki fateh! Does anyone have a link to a master lists of historical sikhi sites in Europe countries? I am looking for all the sites where Guru Nanak Dev Jee has been to and they either made a structure, gurudwara or monument in that memory. I would need exact cities/addresses etx, thanks

  16. Why should she sort it out? Because we as a society have set a norm???! This has been happening for generations! The era of armpit hair, chest/leg hair etx. It will continue to happen, tomorrow people will say hair is bad fullstop and we should all go bald!! THEN WHAT??? Sure it can be a medical condition. In Balpreet Kaurs case, it was, it was treated and all signs went away except for her hair. If it is not a medical condition anymore, why should she do beadbi of kes and take it off??? Because of what society says!? True killers of the panth is US, if we do not support our own brothers and sisters, then what shall we expect anything from others. (ie. reddit user) They are in chardi kala, let them live. We have no right to tell them and show them the way. They have found their way through SIkhi. But yes, if they think they are above others that do cut their kes..... that is wrong imo!

  18. There is huge difference between jews and sikhs. Being in small numbers what they did so far for their community is incredible. Now the differences? They stick together and don't fight with each other (at least not in public), they kept their culture intact including their language. They are very well educated people and rest is that they control most of the economy changing businesses (hollywood, traders, gold etc). I don't have to go in details about apnay NRI Sikhs as you all know how majority of us act in public and how united we are. 2nd or 3 rd generation doesn't got any clue how to read punjabi far away is understanding the social structure of punjab. If our community wants to follow jewish community footstep then we need a radical change in our kaum and most important is our rehat, culture and language. Without that we have no common ground at all. Besides few of us, none of our youth are aware of Punjab history. Effort need to put on punjabi language as it would be crazy to communicate in brit/american/canadian english with 85% of sikh popluation in punjab (most of them are rural folks). A decade worth of work is needed to put in practice by our people and then only we can dream of having our own constitution. Other than that it is just a time pass ! There are very few organization who are working for the welfare of sikhs but in reality we need million time more effort in order to achieve anything out of India.

  19. Actually there were some New York Jews that were against Israel. They were the religious ones who didn't want Israel created by humans for them, they wanted Israel that would be granted to them by God's Messiah. It would be more beautiful and better than any Israel humans could create. Of course they were the minority. Americans. jk :biggrin2:

  20. Go to India you say....and die like the other half million of our brothers and sisters ? Umm....interesting idea. Not. Don't you think its better that we serve as an inspiration to our brothers and sisters there ? Our brothers and sisters whose media never mention the facts we mention here.......so platforms such as this being the only way they can actually learn the truth ? Don't you think that'll be more usefull than going over there and dying ? I suggest you read up on the New York Jews in the 1940's and 50's. Just like us, they were 2nd and 3rd generation american / UK born. What they did was sset the ball rolling. They saw their function as spreading awareness among the jews that either didn't know or didn't care....about a jewish homeland. I'm sure they're mighty glad there wasn't a jewish version of you around at that time telling them to stop spreading awareness and go away to be killed.

  21. We need to come out with something BLOCKBUSTER type material for huge impact, not a B rated film that goes straight to video and hits some of our 'own' sikh film festivals. Hollywood producers want to make movies that get them $$$. We need our rich people, sikh businessmen with money that can approach them with an idea to produce a film that they will agree will have a big impact all over. We need to make QUALITY films NOT quantitative! A hollywood blockbuster that will be playing all over the world and it will hit the heart of India... just imagine! Is there any way for sikh organizations to get in contact with these hollywood actors (tom hanks etx..) and get them to opt out of these roles???! Just imagine if this film hits oscars............ we need to do something!

  22. A Kitchener WW1 hero remembered Private Buckam Singh fought for Canada in the First World War. He also inspired the Sikh community. But his story was almost forgotten. A ceremony was held in Kitchener today to remember Private Singh’s service. For video please visit: http://swo.ctv.ca/news.php?id=6169

  24. Shut up!! the post reads SIKH FREEDOM FIGHTERS!!! The 13 singhs thats got mytered in 1978 amritsar Ram Singh ji was a great mahaan gursikh from our Sikh history. Only the Namdharis have distorted our history and put a title of "Guru" under bhai saahib. Ram Singh ji did not declare himself as a guru, it was the people after he had passed away that put this false title on him. He has done a lot as a SIKH for the freedom movement at that time against the british. Ya, that should say Bhai Ram Singh Ji NOT Guru. Hope that clears it up

  26. Interesting parts worth discussion: How can the hippy type Singhs explain this? Guru ji recognised giddarness and changed the amrit ceremony to combat this thinking. So according to Rattan Singh Guru introduced Pahul to make followers brave enough to fight which they were scared to do before. References to caste equality. References to the guerilla war against the Moghuls
