YOGA?

Recommended Posts

Here we go again.... Japa which the 10 Gurus have spoken about was already used as a Meditation in the Yoag Sutras long long before Guru Nanak spoke of it. So this Japa out of many other types of Yoga methods now all of a sudden becomes the only way and all other are methods are pointless. Yes they are pointless 'TO A SIKH', but you cannot generalize this view on the whole of population and say it will not get you Mukhti. There have been and are thousand of Saints, one in particulare is Parmahanse Yogananda, who learned Kriya Yoga from his Guru and if you know anything abuot Parmahanse ji, you would know that he was and is one with God.

The Path of Guru Nanak is Bhagti-Marg and Prem-Marg, NOT Yoag-Marg, that is obvious. You also need to undesrtand why yoga in the age of Kal-Yug not the best way to be with that Oneness. That is why our Guru treaded away from such practiced, because of the difficulty along with the fact that you were bound to lose yourself in such intricate methods without a Master to teach you or Guide you.

Now for the obvious responses this thread will recieve will reject Yoga as if it is 'Mukhee in their Cha'. But then again it is your Cha, not mine, make it how you see fit. I just hope whatever it is that you drink it will quinch your thirst. .

Good day my beloveds.

I LOVE YOGA! It totally releases tension from the body so energy may flow through without resistance, if you are really focus on the stretches and breathing you will find it also stills your mind. I feel so light and joyful after hatha yoga, it totally prepares me for sitting meditation. Try hatha yoga, I'm sure you will be a happier person.

did you just say that guru ji didn't do yoga because he would have lost himself in it and that he needed someone to teach and guide him?

No veer ji, i did not just say that. The Guru treaded away, as in within their message to 'US' they treaded away from Yoga. Please do not take me for a fool that i would say such an absurd thing.

I dont think that streching my back will help me find God, meditating "nothing" will not be bring me closer to God. But reading listening or repeating phrases of God will, thinking of HIM will, but trying to make my forhead touch my knee wont!

I tried posting the staring post on Sikhnet and they rejected it. grin.gif

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Basically the best Yoga is the yoga of contemplating the Shabad and conquering the Punj Doots. Physical exercise and difficult positions will not enlighten one's knowledge of Waaheguru, this is only capable through Baani.

As a exercise it is cool, but it is a waste of time without Naam, which is in Baani.

Well, I m currently living with goree (american) sikhs. There is a summer camp going on these days. I was amazed to see so many people frm different countries enjoying simran of God by "Waheguru satnaam" chanting. I was amazed to see people doing Gatka with great slogans like "Bole so nihal", "deg teg fateh", "raj karega khalsa". I remember I was reading reharaas sahib on these beautiful mountains with my friend( an american sikh), and during reharaas sahib we were listening the beautiful chanting of satnaam waheguru from the summer camp. They also did gatka after tht. In gatka even small kids were playing gatka and it was amazing. So many sikh girls were doing gatka with passion chanting "sat sri akal". It was just out of the world. Come here to Espanola to experience a new world where people wear beautiful turban given by my father dhan sri guru gobind singh ji with pride. They grow their beards and keep umm flowing just to represent the image of my great guru king of kings guru gobind singh ji.

Yupp!! they do yoga but with every breath they take during yoga they say the great Name of my Lord. They say "God u r wonderfull" that is "WAHEGURU" with every breath they take. Isn't that amazing. I love being here cuz people come here really to learn something and acheive something spirtually.

I spent 5 months earlier also with these guys( I was on an intern), I cant forget those beatiful time cuz they helped me grow my hair back. They showed me the sikhi way again which I had lost due to peer pressure and my manmat.

Balwinder Singh I agree that the "Gore" Sikhs are awesome. I think what some of the mmembers are trying to say is that Yoga for enlightenment is worthless.

First of all there are so many types of Yoga and I forgot the one that the "Gore" Sikhs follow. Anyways all I want to say is that no one is knocking them. It is just important to educate ourselves so we can become better Sikhs. We should be aware of what Baani tells us on the subject and from your description of what the "Gore" sikhs practice it seems more like meditation rather than the classic definition of Yoga or the one we see on TV.

Off topic, but I heard from a Gursikh that the "Gore" Sikhs immersed the ashes of Yogi Bhajan in the Ganga river, is this true?

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
