Bhagat Kabir Ji

Recommended Posts

Some misconceptions about Bhaghat Kabir spread by Hindu Vaishnav's are:

1) He met Guru Nanak - UNTRUE - http://www.sikh-history.com/sikhhist/events/kabir.html . Guru Nanak never met Bhagat Kabir he was dead by the time Guru Nanak was born.

2) He was a Hindu Brahmin - UNTRUE - He was a devout Muslim who saw the hypocrasy of Islam. He criticised both Islam and Hinduism. By caste he was a Jlaha or weaver.

3) BHagat Kabir Bani is an extension od Sikhism - UNTRUE - Guru ji only included elements of the Bhagats Bani that was compatible with Sikhism. For example Bhagat Kabir talks about the company of women being immoral/evil. This is at odds with Sikh teaching that talks about Kings and Prices being born from women. With all Bhagat Bani's only compatible or common threads with Sikhism are included.

4) Bhagat Kabir took Amrit - UNTRUE - the formal ceremony of Amrit was introduced by the 10th Master. Bhagat Kabir was long dead by then. The ceremony of Charan Amrit was used to pass on Guruship. Kabir was no Sikh Guru.

Guru Nanak never met Bhagat Kabir he was dead by the time Guru Nanak was born.

The link does not explain why the years listed are acceptbale and why the belief that he lived for 120 years is not correct.

The link does explain it..........Read the sources that cite the dates in the article.

To be frank....I don't trust Kabir Panthis, who claim he lived for 120 years. They case this on hearsay, and historical records quoted there contradict this......by saying Guru Nanak met Kabir....Kabir Panthis then claim Sikhism to be an extension of the Bhakhti movement.....clearly not so.

vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh

where does Bhagat Kabir Ji say the things which are not compatible with Sikhi? did he write more which hasn't been included in Bani? where?

sorry for the ignorance - just haven't heard of the company-of-women-being-evil/immoral reference before.

one of bhagat kabir's salok's that comes to mind, as far as i know is not included in guru granth sahib ji

kal karey so aaj kar, aaj karey so ab

pal mai parlai hoegi, bahuri karega kab

ie.

what you wish to do tommorrow, do it today. what you wish to do today, do it now.

in an instant your body will be destroyed, then how will you be able to do it. ("it" refers to japping naam ofcourse)

bhul chuk maaf.

kabeer kaal kara(n)thaa abehi kar ab karathaa sue thaal ||

Kabeer, that which you have to do tomorrow - do it today instead; and that which you have to do now - do it immediately!

paashhai kashhoo n hoeigaa jo sir par aavai kaal ||138||

Later on, you will not be able to do anything, when death hangs over your head. ||138||

but relying on the research of Hazari Prased Trivedi, a British Scholar Charlotte Vaudenville is inclined to lend credence to these dates and has prooven that 1448 is probably the correct date of Saint Kabir's demise.

This is the only information that is provided. No details are given as to why these sources are more authentic than Kabir Panthis.

According to Meharbaan Janamsakhi Bhagat Ji met Guru Nanak Sahib. Guru Sahib was 38 and Bhagat Ji was 108. Bhagat Ji's bani after becoming Guru wala is included in Guru Granth Sahib. Everything else was rejected. This is included in Bhagat Bani Ithaas by Giani Gurdit Singh. The following picture is from the book. I am still doing research on this topic.
