Do you think the great Gursikhs like Baba Deep Singh, Bhai Mani Singh, Bhai Taru Singh etc would have sold booze, ciggis and porno mags inorder to survive?

What happened to "sir jaavay ta jaavay, meri sikhi sidhak na jaavay"?

Wasnt Bhagat Tarlochan a butcher? surley if Guruji decided to include his Bani itno Guru Sahib, then we should learn from this. If the person has to make a living let it be as long as they themeselves do not drink or smoke it should be fine

I didnt include a meat shop in my original post! I mentioned booze, ciggis and porno mags!

Listen to some of Baba Isher Singhs Kathas on Gurmatveechar.com about karam and responsiblity.

Personally I think it should be avoided, Me and my family use to have a post office and use to sell cigarettes. But with maharaj's BIG BIG blessing we got rid of the cigarettes within a year. But within that year what happened in my family is undescribable. My parents use to fight day and night regarding this subject. Thanks to my mums nagging and a certain mahapursh's support my dad gave up selling cigarettes.

We still sold eggs and like small packs of the odd meat. Its a horrible feeling deep down. I never use to get my nitnem completed. I would be still doing japji sahib while I served at the shop on a saturday. It would take me hours to finish my nitnem, and sometimes I never finished including reharas. With a full off licience shop the hours a sooooooooo long. Like you have to open up at 6:00 in the morning for papers and like close at 8:00pm or 10:00pm like majority off licence shops. ANd then your sunday gurdwara goes aswell cuz ur in the shop and then you have to do shopping for the shop from warehouses and then unload it and then stock the shelfs.

Running a shop sounds easy but I tell ya its a headache and a half. No holiday, no family time and no time for your guru most importantly. I dont know how to explain it but it has a certain effect that the mind just thinks about profit and money. I swear it becomes CRAZY!!!! and then the illnesses kick in too.

A few recomendations - first avoid alchole and ciggz and papers, second to avoid meat and eggs. Then your thinking about all those chocolates and crisps etc with egg and what not, it just goes on and on.

IF YOU SERIOUSLY CAN FIND ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE BUSINESS WOULD BETTER THAN ANYTHING.

I just gave me views and my own experience, hope it helps. All the best

Exactly Karam and Responisibity play a big part in this, mophlrkb sed in his post it like a copper definding the law and then going out and watching his own family commit crimes and standing by and doing nuffin...................

If you wanna live, breath and be in a sikhi way of life, EVERY aspect of ur jeevan has to represent ur faith.................not just ur jeeven but the example you provide to others.........

lol that reminds me of sumethings my massi sed when i told her i wanted to take amirt

"ur faith is ur faith and ur life is ur life"

ur faith IS ur life and its when we see this differnce between the two we suffer

Its like...

there are jobs such as law - ure representing a client who is paying you to get them off the hook, even though they may have admitted to you or you know that they are guilty.

You could be an accountant whos asked to take on a client who runs casinos, gentlemens clubs etc.

You could be a truck driver who has to transport cigarettes, alcohol or meat.

You could be a designer whos asked to design a cover for an indecent magazine.

I think each situation you have to look at individually than totally rule it out...

theree is no way u could really survive is sikhi sense with an off licence was the maryada on touching cigarettes is strict, once uve touched a ciggarette you have to do full ishnaan lncluding kes, so u'll be touching them on a daily basis

even guru gobind singhs jees horse avoding going through a tobacco fieldd

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
