We can't change the situation by banning them. Atleast the stuble looks a bit more presentbale with a turban than a completly shaven face.

Lets face it, hardly anyone will full out keep their kesh just to get married; they'll start getting civil marriages. We might also get wedding-chapel style gurdwaras being built.

My suggeston is that we have a madatory one-on-one session with the couple and the Granthi Singh or other knwoledgable Sikh frm the sangat where the importance of True Rehit is explained, Sikhi priciples are explained, the maning of Lavan, the significane of walking around maharaj ji, bowing our heads to Guruji, etc.

Explain the importance of raising Gursikh children, keeping their kesh.

For many people this personal approach will have a long term affect. even if they don't keep kesh right away, perhaps it will keep ticking in the back of their minds after their wedding. It might help them remain connected to the Gurdwara, and over time they might slowly come back into sikhi.

In the least, they'll for sure have more reverence for the wedding ceremony.

But we have to be gentle with our approach. You can only change with love.

Re Jai Tegang's comments - we tried setting up a one-on-one with the wedding couple in our local Gurdwara, to explain the Anand Kaaraj ceremony's spiritual significance, etc., but the problem was that the wedding couple's parents get irritated and annoyed, and because these people are part of local Sangat, the elders in our Gurdwara do not wish to antagonise them from their ongoing Seva. It's real Catch-22 situation.

No-one's giving up - the points made by Starsingh are very valid, though we have to find constructive and novel ways of educating the Sangat. What could these be? Please contribute with your ideas.

what are ur ideas then?

1. The only solution is to ay that anyoen who does not have a full lenght beard adn kesh can not get married in the gurdwara.

2. If sum1 u know has cuit hair and tries to take the mick by growing a stubble fro a wedding u shud report it on here, and tell the committee or an organisation liek respect fo guru granth sahib campaign as thsi is direct disrespect

-completely agree with the original post.

-we understand that these people would like to get married in Sikh way and their daily life style is different from Sikh values.

But they can atleast stay in the Sikhi sarrop for that one day atleast. There is no need to shave after Anand Karaj, atleast stay in PUG all day and then you can go back to your normal life style next day.

-It's so pathetic when you see the Groom in PUG at Anand Karaj and then you see him clean shaven before entering the marriage palace with (In Punjab).

LOL! My dad iz da main "geeza" who ties the "inida style" pag on all these moneh around here on their wedding day!! Its quite funny coz they complain bout it giving them a headache! :p

I've made a pagh for a couple of monae quite niavely ! Never again, no Singh with the Suroop of the Khalsa can treat it like a gimmick or some sort of theatherical prop.

Singhs should be discouraged from doing this type of nonsense. Certainly, there will always be someone to do it, perhaps some committeewala as it is a major revenue earner for Gurdwarae.

Its just one big juloooos ! I have Roman Catholic friends and they have to be interviewed by the Priest on whether they are worthy to get married, given courses on conflict management/ budgeting, spiritual element of a christan marriageetc. Sikhs need to do the same !

The Ananad Karaj is just as seeen as the formal event/ for the parents/ traditional wedding.

I aint a hat maker and will never make a hat/ topi/ head covering for a mona so they can do the 'traditional wedding'. I urge all Sikhs with the Suroop to do the same.....

the committees are just as bad, some are corrupt, some drink, eat meat. I once saw a committee member in his garden with lamb on his BBQ and a can of fosters in his hand

    • If relationship with Guru is strong, then kanga is done twice a day, and turban should never be taken off or put on like a hat, there is a lot wrong with that as it is against rehit! maryada is to take off every layer of turban/pagh/dumalla individually, and tie fresh turban each time!
    • the whole 'your husband/wife is chosen for you'/sanjog thing is real, it's just that a lot of people end up marrying the wrong person. they did not end up with the person that was meant for them. my friend, you should marry someone who you feel a connection with and love. there are millions of sikh girls, i'm sure you can find someone who aligns with your sensibilities and who you can truthfully say that you love. sikhi does not say anything against love marriages. you can also be in a loveless arranged marriage which is a safe option b/c both families are more inclined to keep the union intact. i was one of those people who was like meh, i guess i'll just get arranged to some sikh. well i finally started dating for the first time this year and i'm getting married to someone that i love and cannot even imagine leaving. i think it's better to have lost & lost than never loved at all. unfortunately, a lot of people confuse love w/ looks & lust. a lot of men go for the fittest girl they can find and think they won the jackpot or something. in reality, your partner should be like an extremely loved best friend. there's a reason why it's a fact that the most stable and long-lasting relationships started as friendships.  i also think a lot of women are petty and divorce over small reasons, but there's other terrible things like high cheating rates as well. that's why the divorce rate in the west is high. be careful out there.
    • andrew tate praises sikhi too & likes sikhs. his brother also donated to sikh families iirc. they just like any "alpha" religion and tbh islam is the most "alpha" in their eyes. islam is very good at promoting that image. but imo a real alpha man doesn't command respect by beating up his wive(s) or forcing them to wear a burqa. a real man will have his woman listen to him w/o raising a hand or his voice, and command respect by being respectful. he leads by example and integrity. that's true masculinity. you get the idea. + yes, it's definitely true that islam is growing rapidly and making massive inroads. strength in numbers + belief will do that. but rlly it's just because of the birth rate. a lot of them are muslim b/c it's their "identity" just like how a lot of young sikhs will say they're "culturally sikh" or whatever. there just aren't billions of sikhs who lambast their identity everywhere and have strict and linear rules like in islam. besides, the reality is that islam and its followers are some of the most morally bankrupt. you can see all the weird trans rules in iran, bacche baazi in afghanistan, visiting brothels, watching p*rn, p*dophilia what goes on behind the scenes in countries like uae & qatar, etc, and come to your conclusions. you can google all the stats yourself and see which countries do the most of these ^.
    • stop associating with hinduism, that's the absolutely worst thing you can do as a sikh. not sure if you noticed but the entire world looks down upon and spits at india & hindus, literally no one respects them and considers them weak and cowardly. literally 1+ billion of them but not perceived as a strong religion commandeering respect.
    • you wrote a whole lot but told us nothing. what exactly did you do wrong to make you feel this way?
