To be fair to him, he doesn't appear on any of the shows so we can't say he's representing the community. Rather than try to damage the Sikh Channel, we should work to improve it or put our money where our mouths are and open an alternative channel.

We havent got any other visual media outlets apart from the Sikh Channel at present whereas the Indian sponsored channels actively support and give airtime to anti-Sikh parcharaks such as darshan das on aastha (the same channel that broadcast jhoota sauda in india) and narakhdharis on sunrise channel (the group responsible for death of bhai fauja singh and other sikhs in 1978). Yet our community seems to tolerate these channels but slate the channel which supports Sikhi and not the views of its owner. Furthermore the judgement relates to a different business and not the channel itself.

Agreed the quality of Sikh Channel programmes isn't exactly brilliant but the content largely is. Until the channel becomes more established and can pay at market rates, i doubt programming professionals will be sending their CVs in. Also non-sikh programming professionals are unlikely to join a channel on a religion they know nothing or little about.

Maybe those on the fence could give the channel a chance, and those who dont like the channel or the owner, switch over to something else.

If I see the word Bandwith one more time i'm gonna crack up.

Do any of you mentioning it even know what Bandwith means? lol.

If Sikh Channel announces it is going to stop broadcasting tomorrow, you will regret slating it.

I dont think we fully understand the costs involved in running a channel. Its alot more than just the offcom costs.

On the other side, I think Sikh Channel can practice a little more TRANSPARENCY with a break-down of exactly where the sangats money will be spent/appropriated.

This will serve to clear up any Doubts people have (and as i can see theres alot of doubts).

Lets ask Sikh Channel to do that, instead of calling them frauds.

Listing Mr Bal's many Assets does not neccessarily mean he is stealing sangats money.

We as Sikhs need to Google broadcasting costs a little less, and focus more on supporting the only Sikh Channel.

Muslims have channels, Christians have countless channels, hindus have channels. Sikhs have only this one.

I hear people saying "oh it doesnt matter what the owner of the channel is like, as long as we have a Sikh Channel..."

I ask those people this: "ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOURSELVES?!"

Seriously, is this what Sikhi is teaching us? Are we that materialistic?! Would Sarbans Dhaani Sri Guru Gobind Singh Jee instruct his Sikhs to support a cause or such an organisation, no matter how big, if its core owner and admin was this corrupt? If we had such a true leader in this day and age, would they teach us to support this guy and his work?

Look, everyone knows that the owner of the channel has been linked to such crimes, but one would have hoped that after starting a Sikh Channel that he would have stopped. Are we really this desperate for such a "Sikh Channel" that we continue to support fraudsters?

If the panth wants a Sikh Channel, then Sikhs should get together and start a Sikh Channel together which belongs to the panth and funds the panth - not an individual.

Sky has stopped handing out any more EPG slots / channels as they are now full in the set up that sky has linking satellites, shame on all of you slandering the channel. This guy didn't have to open the Sikh Chnl. but he did so credit should be given where due, don't see the spgc doing a Sikh Chnl or any other Sikh group, but it has been left to the average sangat or members of the mainstream Sikhs do to do.There will NOT be another Sikh Chnl to make a rival as Sky can't give anymore slots and besides how many will fund another channel - not many as we have seen how useless we are as a community.

A few chnls ahead from Sikh Chnl.there is a channel called up & comming tv this is where channels who are waiting for a slot broadcast 1/2 hours of their preview programmes and almost every preview of a new channel is a muslim channel who are waiting for one channel or another to go bankcrupt so Sky can give the old slot to them,so all in all we can't let Sikh Chnl loose its place/slot on Sky as it will be taken over by another muslim channel.

Rather than slander the channel support it,Mr Bal's personal life has nothing to do with the Channel and nor does he claim to be a Sikh leader,Harjap Bhangal has just posted it as hes a solicitor himself - prbably a rival

Difference between slander and truth Southall Youth. Slander refers to false allegations, rumours so forth. I think whatever has been highlighted by Harjap, with whatever intention, is valid and has been proved in a court of law. So lets not pass that off as slander.

And you are wrong... SKY EPG numbers are still available. They are not allowing any SD (Standard Definition) EPG's but are accepting and distributing HD EPG's. IN addition, past channels that have gone off air are allowed to auction and sell on their EPG numbers and theyre are a few doing the rounds. Owners of RAJ TV were once auctioning off their EPG numbers. So another Sikh Channel is not off the cards, by no means. Who knows, we may even have a HD Sikh Channel and looking in the near future, a 3D Sikh Channel.

Current holders of EPG numbers can sell them as well and they normally do so after they get good exposure on Sky... think about it.

Yes there are many non Sikhs that daily slander the Sikhs but nobody questions them. While the Sikh Channel and Punjab Radio are attacked daily on this site, the Indian Channels allow KPS Gill , many of the Indian Politicians that have murdered Sikhs on are not even mentioned. Do we find it better to attack our fellow Sikhs but are terrified of our external enemies?

lsingh - Punjab Radio is a waste of space. The quicker it gets shut down, the better. The Sikh Channel is a different story and deserves our support - simply because it's the only one we have, and at least they aren't a tool for kala afghana propaganda. It's better that our people at home watch Sikh Channel rather than the Christian / Islamic Punjabi channels, or Zee tv etc.

Anyway, this topic has run its course.

    • Its called a “fifty” becuase when Singhs were fighting in the British army, they would recieve an 8 metre pagg, with a cour four base, because the base layer was half (50%) of the main turban, it’s called a fifty. The practise of tying a keski under your main one is now seen as pretty weird (except for a patka), but the small coloured strip inder the pagg is still used as a fashion statement since its pretty visually appealing. And so, people now just tie a small little “kung-fu strip” sort of thing under their pagg to imitate that effect.
    • Found how to do it. For anybody else wondering, heres how. No one even helped me btw. So much for Guru Ji’s lhalsa always ready to help (and having their Singhs’ backs smh). (Notes: Aim to do this on a hot summer’s day, and dedicate a full day to this, since you only have to do this once every 4 months at least (normally the turban will stay in shape until you wish to untie it and physically pull it open again). This helps it to dry faster, since you have to starch it, HALF DRY IT, pooni it, tie it and then wear it for around four hours for the rest of it to dry, all in the same day. It’s a one day process but it serves you for months). This works for both the UK/Kenyan style (starch is best for this style) as well as the normal Punjabi paghs (such as Patiala shahi, wattan wali and morni paghs). Not sure about dumallas though. Probably not . Pagg Starch: 1) Boil 6 cups of water in a saucepan on low heat (always low heat) 2) Seperately dissolve 4 tablespoons of maida (all purpose flower) with a little water until it is 100% smooth.  You could also use rice or corn starch. Add more water if it is not a smooth liquid 3) Once completely smooth, pour this mixture through a strainer (to make it even smoother) into the boiling water. 4) Now continuously stir it until it goes completely see through. Keep on stirring it on the low heat until it goes totally transparent (it can take a little while to cook, but the pagg will last you for months!) It will at become a thick paste first, but keep stirring until it becomes see through and thinner.    5) Once it’s transparent, pour the starch (again through a strainer) into a big enough, clean bucket to cool down. 6) Once cool, take a clean, dry turban and completely and mix it in with the starch for around 5 minutes. Make sure that it is all evenly and completely soaked and wet with the starch. (Most people use mal-mal material, but I use full voile and I have used Rubia too. They’re all fine. Maybe use Rubin for smaller turbans and mal mal for larger ones) 7) Leave it out in the sun to HALF DRY ONLY!!!!!!! (Don’t ever let your starched turban fully dry before you tie it. If you do, then you will have to spray/ sprinkle water on it which will weaken the starch and ruin the turban) ONLY HALF DRY THE TURBAN IN THE SUN!!! 😎 Once HALF DRY ONLY take the now semi damp turban, and fold/pooni and then tie it like normal (straight on your head, with no base layer such as a Keski or patka underneath). Leave it on your head for around 4 hours just to fully dry and it will be ready and set for months now. Like I said, do try to tie your dastar every day, but if you can’t or really don’t want to, I hope this helps! Like I said this works on both the traditional Punjabi/Indian style paggs, and the more recent UK/Kenyan style paggs. It does for my morni pagg, but the first larr slips up in to the pagg. This is normal dw. Wjkk, Wjkf
    • I guess easier ways of learning have taken precedence. There are so many Youtube channels and podcasts available that people are more ready to listen for knowledge at their own leisure. There are so many great kathas available online that take months to listen, so that people may not really get the time to come here and write.
    • *Bump The current conflict (w/ Iran getting involved) is being orchestrated by a 3rd party in my opinion. We all are going to blame the Jewish community (how they run the banks, how they are brutal and etc.) but they have a point in this conflict.  As soon as people start finding about the truth that's when the real movement will begin.
