You know, when you think about it, growing up in England, the primary image of Sikh males presented by the mainstream is always the loyal Sikh sepoy.

Dallysingh, me and you have sparred on here way too much already, and none of it has been of any benefit to our qoum so please understand that what I'm going to say has no ulterior motivation about and relevance to background or 'community' :

Sikh military history and 'sepoys' are as different and seperate as a Nigerian and a Norwegian.

In Sikh miltary history, the word 'sepoy' has always been a derogatory term. The British knew that and that is why they always used us as brutal enforcers, for example, to crush the Chinese Boxer Rebellion in China as well as the Sepoy Mutiny in India of 1857. With regards to the Sepoy Mutiny of course (The Indian Mutiny) it was understandable why we Sikhs would want to crush it as it was the Mughals who were the power behind it but the main point was that the Seopys were the purbias that we Sikhs remembered from the second anglo-sikh war. It was always in our pshyche to detest the sepoy and thus the British always went out of their way to distinguish the Sikh from the sepoy.

What I'm trying to say here is that you have not properly grasped the basics of sikh military history.

I've grasped it, you haven't grasped the games and manipulation of our colonisers.

They own your mind, you don't seem bright enough to crack their manipulative games. It's like you have low self-esteem which is only bolstered by narrow, casteist constructs; that too which were developed by outsiders (your beloved goray) to control your people.

Your gullibility is staggering mate. The way you enthusiastically jump on the 'martial races theory' with gusto and without any critical evaluation regarding its creators objectives says it all. You place way too much emphasis on the post-annexation phase, when speaking frankly, we were subjugated, and don't realise what a different beast Sikh soldiery was prior to that. Khalsa fighting for their own interests, with their own independent military force is a world away from Sikhs fighting under a foreign banner, for foreign causes, in foreign lands - the consequences of which were obvious at partition. Like i said before, it's a sad joke - men fighting for a foreign land that get caught out in their very own homeland which they only recently ruled.

This isn't about any other community, but the way many of our own (yourself being a perfect exemplar) foolishly adopt outsider constructs in forming their own self-perceptions without realising the implications of this psychologically. The very reason that you are an apologist and sycophantic towards Brits is a consequence of that. It isn't even really that complicated but the fact that your brain can't penetrate this says it all mate....

You have NO IDEA of how much being invaded and subjugated has negatively effected our community on multiple fronts.

By the way, we haven't sparred at all; you've just continually pushed a sycophantic worldview and I've just brought it to your attention. You don't appear to be conscious of what you are doing, which speaks volumes of how brainwashed you are.

You and every other Sikh who has the problem need help to see straight and start thinking like men, not servile nabobs.

Tell you what, it's pointless even talking to you so why don't you just do the following in this order:

Tell your wife its time to go shopping for some dead animals to eat at the butchers shop. As your dad and uncles are also in the house she will of course have her face covered in pardah so whisper it into her. You're both a bit tired after the wedding you went to yesterday but you feel it will be nice to spend some time with her today because the curtain that divides men from women at your wedding functions does of course make it hard to mix. While you wait for to get ready by puuting on enough gold to make a gypsy blush and a red dot on her forehead, do some pooja to one or two of the photographs of dead people you like to have hanging on the walls. On the way to the butchers, stop and trick a stranger by reading his plam. After that, before you get to the butchers, why not stop at your Gurdwara and enjoy a nice fry-up of sausages, bacon and eggs. After that, you meet a cousin who gives you some terrible news. He informes you that one of your neices, who is now turned 16, insists on going to college to study. You can't allow her to bring that type of shame to your family so you do what needs to be done: You get her married off at 16. Once you get home, put on the TV and watch the Sikh channels. Wander, sadly, why it is that none of the people on any of the Sikh channels looks like you and your family, sounds like you and your family, has the same traditions as you and your family. Wander, sadly, why all the other Sikhs want nothing to do with you and have more social interaction with muslims and hindus than they do with you. Feeling sad, get on the internet later that evening and live in make believe land. Make yourself feel better about who you are by making up all kinds of cr*p. Then, go to sleep exhausted. Its been a hard long day. Unfotunately, when you wake up in the morning you'll still really be who you really are. :biggrin2:

You can keep doing these typical dissonance moves, but eventually the truth about how deeply you've been made a fool of will dawn on you.

And even if it doesn't; maybe your children wont be a docile as you and will figure it out. lol

GUYS!!! PLEASE can we not do what they want ...which is to quarrel amongst ourselves ...we are brothers and sisters under Akal Purakh we have the same Heart ,same soul . No bipran/firangi should be able to persuade us so completely otherwise ... whether angrez, hindu, muslim, or pure fascist...even after their raj ended 70 odd years back why are we still so hypnotised ? because the angrez handed over their playbook to the Hindu brahmins at the negotiation table . They are still cosy with each other, strange that why aren't they cosy with the afghans/turks they were old colonists, because they the angrez still are in control by proxy.

I find that both Jagsaw and Dallysingh101 have made valid points.

The situation is not a clear black and white situation.

We should respect and honour our forefathers whether we think that they were right or wrong in their actions.

The generation that saw WW2 fighting and Partition bloodshed must be one of the toughest generations in living memory.

Did the British subvert and manipulate the Sikhs? Of course, but in the cunning and cleverness they have planted the seeds of Sikhi in different corners of the world.

For all their guile, Maharaj ji is the one in his hukam that has manipulated the Brits to spread Sikhi without them even realising what they have done.

It is almost as if we had to lose our sovereignty for a larger purpose.

We will get it back, but I imagine it will be much greater and a lot different than we can envisage.

What about Jagsawsingh making all these derogatory comments towards Bhatras? When that has nothing to do with the thread. He has done it countless times. everyone is silent.

For his information Bhatras have made great progress towards integration in the Sikh community. This is evident in the east london Nagar Kirtan when for the first time the Bhatra Sangat Gurdwara joined the procession.

veer jo tussi kehnde ho teek aa per ajj da samna karna , we can't live in the past glories we have to make new misaals for the younger generation to look up to . I don't crow about my ancestors deeds because I still have to prove myself worthy to even mention them ...may be a little nimrata goes a long way ?
