I lost interest after the second book in all honesty, Seems like there's a nice trend going on in post-apocalyptic society based books. Makes me wonder if people are finally thinking a bit.

nah it's programming to expect the dytopian model to become the norm ... anyway Guru Sahiban have already told to expect it and worse and to conquer it through sikhi

Why are you guys so obsessed with caste.

This topic is not about caste based divisions

"Faction before blood/lineage"

It is about choosing a particular stream.

Like joining Akhand Kirtani Jatha to learn Kirtan or studying Santhiya from Damdami Taksal or learning Martial Arts from Nihangs.

Being skilled in only one thing isn't the best ideal either, since you got the idea from Divergent you would notice she could choose any of 3 castes, (factions), among 5 total. In an ideal society, nobody would only get 60% of the choices, (if they got choose), she was born in the caste, (faction), Abnegation, but changed her caste, (faction), at least 2 times.

all sikhs have to learn to do shudh paat, be knowledgeable in dharam, do kirtan , be shastardhari (holding is not the same as being able to use effectively) each sikh represents the parents and the panth - besides all those jathebandis would all say we are sikhs not flanna flanna sikh , we are sikhs of Guru Granth sahib ji and Guru Panth Sahib ji

Did you read about "Factionless".

"There is one more group that is not part of the social classes or factions. These are the Factionless. These are the people who failed to complete their initiation into whatever faction they chose and live in poverty, doing the work no one else wants to do."

In reality people belonging to similar faction or jatha get preferential treatment.

Akj's marry akj, Ddt's help in placements of ddt religious workers abroad.

"Jack of all king of none"

That is the reason system has not produced Khalsa but khasis, pappu's & chakkas !

Where are the dauntless when you need them ?

I'm not concerned with what happened in the book or movie.

Just interested in the factions concept.

Take the case of Bhindranwale, trained to be a Granthi & Pracharak changed faction from Erudite to Dauntless.

Got misused by politicians (both punjab & center) due to superficial knowledge of politics, created chaos that ended in disaster.

De Facto, generalist-divergent ideology didn't work.
