This question has perplexed for a long time.

First of I'm a Sikh and cut hair and still learning and want to apologise to anybody who takes offence.

Ok I do not know why One of our Guru's built a mosque for the Muslims when in their book , they dont treat women the same , they have a 50 year old profit having *** with a under age child.

The only thing that makes sense, is they didn't read their book(which i dont believe) or their book has been changed so much since our Guru's time.

Also why do people say Jesus is a prophet,  when he us jus a metaphor for the sun? Everything Jesus has done is what the sun does, he is the SON of god.

Like I said not to offend just want a discussion.

No problem.

Can you change the name of the topic (if possible) to something more descriptive than "controversial topic"? Like "Why did Gurus build a mosque?"

Yeah, it seems problematic in that way.

I think it's just a reflection of our tolerance.

That it's OK to worship how you want to, and we won't force you to pray in the Sikh way.

But I'm sure someone will come on to question whether our Gurus really had that mosque built, or maybe they just allowed the Muslims to build it.

By the way, profit relates to money. The word you're looking for is "prophet".

Guru ji did it to allow them to have a jagga where they could do Akal Purakh di aradhna without hinderance , remember the Hindus of that time were just as oppressive on poor muslim citizens as vice versa. Isa Musa, Muhhammed were all messegers but as Guru Pita ji says they did not give naam with any strong effort to the people that is their fault . There have been thousands of messengers and prophets etc but no one achieved a complete dharam and gave it freely to all, always conditional.

First of all the Muslims of Sri Hargobindpur didn't have a mosque and they needed one. And second we don't hate Muslims. Guru Sahib is giving us such an amazing example, he is showing us the way that we are worshipping the one Lord through compassion. You should watch Basics of Sikhi Street Prachar videos, they talk about it and it showing that the Sikh Panth is niara (unique).

He is prophet. I think you have looked way too far in depth of what people say about Jesus being a metaphor or some amalgamation of some previous Devtes or Greek Gods or whatever. There are records to show that Jesus was a person and he is a prophet of God. Maharaj says that prophets came him before but didn't reveal the complete truth.

I think it served two purposes: symbolic AND literal / social / political. Symbolically, to reinforce Sikh ethos and provide a practical example of the message in the Sikh scriptures of the time. Literal, to reach out to Muslims in act of good faith so that during the coming times of that era it wouldn't be assumed that Sikhs were enemies of your average Muslim or Islam, therefore any efforts being made to resist Mughal tyranny wouldn't be sabotaged by Muslims on the ground. It was intelligent statesmanship and spiritual goodwill.

I think there is an additional aspect:

Guru ji didn't go out to a random place and just start building a mosque for the sake of it, like KA.

Rather, Hargobindpur was a new town, and Guru ji simply allowed a place for the construction of a mosque.

It would be like new housing developments in Punjab leave a plot for a Gurdwara or a mandir.

Sikhs are all about non discrimination. Why does it bother you a mosque was built. We have even built churches for christians.

Our belief is to help anyone in need. So nothing wrong with building a church or mandir for hindus.

Sikhs do not agree with many beliefs of other faiths. But we should  respect them non the less. That is the philosophy of our teachings.

Just as we would hope that other religions respect our beliefs if they go against others peoples religious teachings.
