The Sandhawalias colluded with the British and then sough asylum in the British territories after murdering Maharaja Sher Singh. They are as guilty as the Dogra and Lal Singh and Tej Singh for the destruction of the Sikh state. Maharaja Sher Singh was not a bad ruler apart from the way in which he got the throne. He was 34 when he became Maharaja and managed to rule for over 2 and a half years which was too short for him to bring about a period of peace the state needed and his death unleashed more anarchy. Had he managed to rule for a couple of decades, the Sikh state would have been safe from annexation and there probably would not have been an Anglo-Sikh war during his lifetime.

He got a bit to friendly with the British though, he let them in the kingdom the way his father never did.

M.Ranjit Singh was never really interested in Mehtab Kaur! and married her because he joined forces with her mother Sada Kaur, so thats why Sher Singh was born years later, while he really loved his 2nd wife Datar/Raj Kaur and their son Kharkh Singh was born before Sher Singh was born.

the British were very well aware of this and used it to spread rumours about Sher Singh not being Ranjit Singhs son!

Mehtab Kaur and Sada Kaur were miserable because they knew Ranjit Singh would make Kharak Singh son of Datar/Kaur Maharaja and not Sher Singh, they even went behind Ranjit Singhs back and started seeking advise from the goreh! but Ranjit Singh was smart and got Sada Kaur his mother in law locked up!

There was too much family politics going on.

Sher Singh would of been a much better choice than Kharak Singh, Kharak Singh was a weak man, even his son Nau Nihal Singh basically dethroned him! he was basically poisoned, iv read that his own son Nah Nihal Singh played a role in it?

Is it true that Guru Sahib said that no one is to build a shrine at Nanded? and whoever does their family lineage will end?

Because Maharaja Ranjit Singh did that, and his family ended. Ranjit Singh really did have a lot of love for Guru Gobind Singh ji, if guru sahib really did say that then for Ranjit Singh building Hazur Sahib was a lot more important than his family lineage.

I think the best thing he did was make Punjab secure for us Sikhs to live freely and openly practice our religion, from the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji Sikhs were constantly attacked and then things became even worse with Aurangzeb and his predecessors and then there were the Afghan invasions, Ranjit Singh put an end to that and created a state where Sikhs could freely live without fear. I mean what more could the Sikhs of his time ask for?

Pakistanis should know that the territory across the Indus the Pashtun areas are only in Pakistan because of the Sikh empire, had the Sikhs not captured those lands then it is very unlikely those lands would be in Pakistan today, and Kashmir is in India because Ranjit Singh captured it from the Afghans.

But how do we know she actually was having an affair with him ?

The Khalsa Panchayat - the Sikh Council of army chiefs threatened to kill Raja Lal Singh over this affair.

Sher Singh was very admiring of the British and their war technology. Being a natural and gifted soldier this was natural.

This is a common theme in royal households. Queens wanting their son to be King so it would raise their own profile prestige and power.

No wonder the empire fell. In my opinion, the Akal Takht and Khalsa should have ruled the whole thing

Think about this. Maharaja Ranjit singh committed some kurehit. Akali Phoola Singh had him tied to a tree, ready to be whipped. Why didn't Akali Phoola Singh claim the throne of Lahore?

However, the Khalsa does not crumble. Regardless of the situation, the Khalsa always remains intact.

The Dal Khalsa did crumble.  After makng many victories and taking rule of large swathes of territory what happened to the Dal Khalsa within a decade ? They all starting fighting each other and became weak.

Just an old wives tale.

Damandeep Singh Sandhwalia a descendant of Ranjit Singhs family,  its always great to see descendants of prominent Sikh figures in proper Sikh appearance, Ranjit Singh was from the Sandhwalia clan, this guy is a descendant of Ranjit Singhs cousin. Sandhwalias were quite bitter about about Ranjit Singh getting the throne and not them! They held a prominent position in his darbar but were always trying to get the throne !

 Pin on maharajas of india

think this guy is a descendant of Jind Kaur

Koh-i-Noor: The jewel in the British crown with a very murky past ...

Descendants of Bhai Maharaj Singh ji who rebelled against the British after the ando sikh wars, his family are in Sikhi saroop too

How can sandhawalias claim the throne

It wasnt their ancestor sardar chand singh who became a prominent sikh in dal khalsa in times of great turbulence, nor was he at the forefront like charhat Singh when fighting abdali

They werent the misldars of gujranwala and sialkot sukerchakya misl lol I wonder by what reasoning they had a claim to the throne

Rani sada kaur or raja fateh singh ahluwalia would have had a bigger claim to the throne

I've mostly read positive stuff on kanwar nau nihal singh other than this muslim who villainizes him for apparently forcing chand kaur to commit sati (the piece seems like a total fantasy lol)

Raja sher singh was a capable military strategist

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
