It is a very admirable campaign to ban wedding halls in gurdwaras to ban meat and sharb but I cant help wonder why all of the furore and why now. Every single gurdwara MUST BAN any form of meat and alcohol being served what I want to ask is why isnt the satkaar campaign trying to stop meat and alcohol at ALL SIKH weddings regardless of venue (maybe some of them have an interest in wedding halls) why arent we campaigning about the dangers of alcohol to youth surely if youth see alcohol and meat at weddings when they grown up they are being conditioned that alcohol and meat goes hand in hand with sikhism why hasnt anyone looked at the fact that most of the major venue o…

Waheguruji Ka Khalsa Waheguruji Ke Fateh..... I just want to bring to the attention of the sangat of something that happened this past Saturday, NOvember 4, 2006. THeres was a wedding here in Edmonton that took place at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. Sri GUru Granth Sahib was in the ballroom and the lavan were read there. THe people who took the saroop to the hotel are not affliated with any Guruwara here and keep a sarroop at their own house. THis person was a granthi at one of our gurudwaras about 10 years ago but now does programs for people anywhere anytime and does not care baout maryada. I just found out a few days ago as there are not many singhs in this cit…

Wedding Invitation The SUMMER season is here and this means WEDDING SEASON is here. I came home for the weekend and found some wedding cards lying around. I have noticed that every single wedding card has Gurbaani printed on them. Popular lines from Gurbaani used in cards is: I remember last summer we received a wedding card, which advertised the Anand Kaaraj and the reception PARTY on the same piece of card. It was IRONIC that a few lines up it had Gurbaani and few lines down it said, “COCKTAILS will be served” and “BEER BAR will be open”. Sat Naam, Waheguru. Have we LOST THE PLOT? Can you imagine a Muslim advertising a Muslim wedding and just underneath writin…

In relation to recent events regarding our Sri Guru Granth Sahib prevented from being taken into a hall for a wedding, I was trying to understand the following. We all agree that this is considered beadbi of our Guru :TH: and laava should be only taken in a gurdwara. This is concidered inappropriate because the location in question serves alcholol, meat, music etc... or am I missing something? If this is the case, is it beadbi when the Sri Guru Granth Sahib is taken to a home for an Akhand paath and prior to the event the family members of the household used to eat meat in their home, drink alcholol, listern to music etc. If this is also considered beadbi, then does t…

I am sooo happy today. My cousin was getting married on 21st August and it was all booked up for a hotel. I found out and spoke to my cousin and he understood and realised he was going to make a mistake by taking Guru Granth Sahib Ji into a hotel. He then proceeded to talk to his parents to change the plans, but they were not having any of it, they had decided to do the wedding in a hotel and that was the end of it. My cousin gave in and didn't take my calls for a few days in shame. I then went round to his house and spoke to him, he told me his parents were not going to listen to us. I then decided to speak to his parents. They told me they respected Guru Ji just as m…

Okay my question to all who want a weddings at hotels etc. My question is to have a wedding u need a book of the Sikhs called The Sri Guru Granth Sahib because it contains Gurbani, which means the Guru's word which is enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib. The Sikhs regard Sri Guru Granth Sahib as a complete, inviolable and final embodiment of the message for them. There is to be no word beyond the Word. And that's how their last guru, Guru Gobind Singh, spoke to the congregation on October 20, 1708 shortly before his ascension. "Those who desire to behold the Guru should obey the Granth Sahib. Its contents are the visible body of the Guru." AND WHERE DO WE TAKE THIS…

I have recently been watching various documentaries where all the points used against weed are rebutted with good solid evidence. Now, I'm against weed, and most of the reasons I had against weed have now been proven wrong. I was wondering if there were any reasons given in Gurbani for why it was not allowed (I would also like to know if it is banned in Sikhi at all).
