  1. OP ji Thinking and bathing both are correct......both are applicable.... One always think of attaining virtues so one can be closer to God, but mere thinkng doesn't obtain anything unless hard work is put into it.....which is naam simran, sewa, kirat kar and vand shak.... Secondly cleansing or bathing of body won't cleanse or purify the dust on the mind, it can be done only by naam simran, sewa, kirat kar & vand shak.... there are and can be thousands of meanings of just one tuk, Gurbani is not stuck to just one meaning.....every mind gets interpretation based on his/her level of spirituality and as one's spiritual level develops, many meanings of same tuk will flourish in the mind automatically.......and if person tries to explain it to someone else with lower spiritual level ....... won't get it......... bhul chuk maaf...

  2. Now i came to know the necessity to remain quiet in these things. But i thought to reveal it which obviously was my wrong decision. But one thing i want to tell is that truth will remain truth no matter you accept it or deny it. You accept it because of your previous good karmas and you deny it because of your previous bad karmas. This is the creation of akaal purakh and that beloved akaal purakh waheguru ji resides in the heart of his worshippers .He plays, fights, loves, laughs and talks with his bhagats. And such true worshippers of waheguru cares of no one whether you accept them or you beat them with stones and humilate them because they are above these things and have only one demand in the bottom most part of their heart: MERA RUSSE NA KALGIYAN VAALA JAGG BHAAVEN RUSSDA FIIRE

  3. I agree that Kesh is very important in Sikhi. But I still find Keshdhari Sikhs dancing and swaying their hips to Gurbani is very disrespectful. "Ades Tisai Ades, Aad Aneel Anad Anahat Jug Jug Eko Ves" This Gurbani Pangati glorifies Waheguru Ji. The meaning of this pangti goes much beyond the understanding of most of us on this forum. I find this beadbi. I can't believe some people are saying this is okay. And some people are comparing this to Kesh when the two are on opposite ends. This isn't about kesh. This thread wasn't even about the 3HO practices. In fact if Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj were here in deh saroop, would they accept such things? I understand that the so called Punjabi Sikhs also contribute in beadbi. We aren't a sharia religion but dancing to Gurbani is just plain wrong. Someone needs to do better parchar to the 3HO Sikhs. In the video, the lady is saying "people say Gurdwaras are boring, but if everyone did kirtan like this then Gurdwara wouldn't be boring" Gurdwara Sahib isn't a place for amusement, you don't need to have "fun" like that there. You need to connect with Guru Sahib. Do seva and read Gurbani. When people sway their hips to Gurbani are they understanding the meaning of the pangti? Do they even know what they're saying? Sikhi is far more deeper than this. Also, instead of bashing on the 3HO Sikhs, we need to figure out how to do parchar to them. How to teach them how our Guru Sahibs lived Sikhi. How mahan Sants have lived Sikhi. By being humble. By understanding the reality behind worldly pleasures. In fact several Punjabis despite having haircuts understand the reality of Sikhi. They know how to keep maryada of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. They understand that real Sikhi is how Sant Isher Singh ji used to live or how Sant Jarnail Singh Ji used to live. Yes Punjabi Sikhs do plenty harm as well. As someone above stated, when our womenfolk dance to dirty punjabi songs Honey Singh stuff its wrong. But Gurbani is pavitar. Gurbani is more pavitar than a Sikh. Because Guru Ji is greater than a Sikh. So if a Sikh cuts their hair, yes thats bad. But it is not comprable to mocking Gurbani. Who says a Mona can't sit on Tabiya? I know of many people, some very very close to me, who read much more bani than a lot of us. But they haven't taken amrit. I know of many people who read so much bani and they do rol in Akhand Paths. So where does it say a haircut person can't sit on Tabiya? Someone might be keeping Kesh but committing crimes yet they have the permission to sit on Tabiya but someone who has a hair cut but is trying to get into Sikhi trying to get close to Guru sahib reads a lot of bani cannot sit on Tabiya.... Bhul Chuk Maaf

  4. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa !!Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !! Waheguru Ji - a sort sakhi One day Guru Gobind Singh Ji maharaj asked for his horse which was duly brought from the stables. The Sikhs gathered around as Guru Ji checked the horse. Guru Ji grabbed the reigns of the hose ready to mount. Guru Ji said "Can any Sikh recite Guru Granth Sahib Ji before I sit on the horse?" The Sikhs looked around in puzzlement, how can you recite the whole of Guru Granth Sahib Ji in the time it takes to get up and sit on a horse. Guru Ji put his charan on the stirrup and was ready to mount the horse "Can anyone recite Guru Granth Sahib Ji before I get up and sit on Neela?" One Sikh stepped forward, with folded hands he said "Sahib Ji with your grace I will try" As Guru Ji mounted the horse the Sikh said "Ek-oan-kaar" and Guru Ji sat on the horse. Sahib Ji was very pleased and blessed the Singh. "You have understood the essence of Guru Granth Sahib Ji," the whole of the granth is an expansion of this fundemental Sikh concept. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa !!Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !!

  7. Tree of life. Shows how all animals are linked together and how we are actually related. We all share a common ancestor. Because of speciation, different species can split due to barriers (eg: geographical, a sea or mountains). These species due to natural selection may have to adapt to new enviroments etc. Anyway, humans share a common ancestor with other monkeys and apes. We split off from there. If you don't believe in evoloution then you shouldn't get new flu jabs every year. If this wasn't true then bacteria wouldn't become immune to our drugs (anti-biotic resistance is becoming an increasing threat).

  8. According to Prof sahib, Giani Sant ji Maskeen and Gyani Thakur ji, the meaning is for 'cleansing'. To understand first four tuks, we have to pay attention to the fifth tuk, “kiv sachhiara hovai, kiv kude tutte paal”. Reading this with all four tusk, it becomes clear that the first tuk refers to ‘man’ (mind). In the first tuk, purity of the mind, in the second tuk silence of mind, in the third hunger of mind and in the fourth wisdom of mind is told. ‘soch’ is translated as ‘succh’ Thinking and wisdom of mind have been described in the fourth tuk. Therefore, the first tuk has another concept, which is clarified by studying the following tuk 1) Kahu Nanak succh dhiayee, succh hovai taan such paiyee (As di Vaar) 2) Soch kare dina aur raat, Man kee mail na tann to jaat (Sukhmani) 3) Naa succh sanjam tulsi maala, gopa kaan gau gopala. Tant mant pakhand na koi, naa koi vansh vaajija (Maru Mahala 1) Also in gurbani we have- ang 59 ਕਾਇਆ ਸੋਚ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ Kā¬i¬ā socẖ na pā¬ī¬ai bin har bẖagaṯ pi¬ār. One does not meet God through ritual cleansing without loving devotion to the Lord. ang237 ਤੀਰਥ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਹੁਰਾ ਪੋਥੀ ॥ Ŧirath ḏėv ḏėhurā pothī. The sacred shrines of pilgrimage, gods, temples and holy books; ਮਾਲਾ ਤਿਲਕੁ ਸੋਚ ਪਾਕ ਹੋਤੀ ॥ Mālā ṯilak socẖ pāk hoṯī. rosaries, ceremonial tilak marks on the forehead, ritual cleansing to be pure, and the offering of burnt offerings; ang265 ਸੋਚ ਕਰੈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਅਰੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥ Socẖ karai ḏinas ar rāṯ. You may practice cleansing day and night, ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਜਾਤਿ ॥ Man kī mail na ṯan ṯė jāṯ. but the filth of your mind shall not leave your body. ang905 ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਤੀਰਥ ਭਰਮੀਜੈ ॥ Anṯar mail ṯirath bẖarmījai. With filth within, he wanders around at places of pilgrimage. ਮਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਿਆ ਸੋਚ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥ Man nahī sūcẖā ki¬ā socẖ karījai. His mind is not pure, so what is the use of performing ritual cleansings? ang1266 ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਹੁ ਕੀਏ ਬਹੁ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਮਿਸਟਾਏ ॥ अनिक प्रकार भोजन बहु कीए बहु बिंजन मिसटाए ॥ Anik parkār bẖojan baho kī¬ė baho binjan mistā¬ė. 9. In my opinion, the translation # 3 is closest to what is being said in Gurmukhi. However, the literal translation of that ‘tuk’ from Japji Sahib is as follow: By (just –merely) thinking (thinking alone) one can not think of (comprehend) even if one thinks millions of time ….. (when one reads this in context of rest of the ‘pauri’ the word thinking means thinking of Nirankar/ waheguru and of His greatness and vastness) Sochai = By thinking (in context here it conveys the meaning - By thinking alone) soch na hovai = cant think – can not be thought of je sochi lakh // = (even) if thought lakhs (millions) of times

  10. I find it ironic that someone with alias - "doctor" mani would encourage people to be shot just because of different beliefs. The very premises of being doctor to save a life not take a life. Even hardcore terrorist/criminal/war criminal is a "patient" in doctor eyes during operation. May be for above poster, it be nice to have a refresher ethic course of being a "doctor" first let alone being sikh of Guru Maharaj at the first place.!!

  11. Finding discrepancies in Sikhi at the age of 16? Interesting! First of all, none of the Guru Sahibaan were violent. Even Guru Nanak Patshah Jee Maharaj had a barsha which is still preserved. Guru Gobind Singh Jee Maharaj has written and uttered such amazing Bani that is miles away from violence. No where has Guru Sahib said that one particular community was superior. Maanas Ki Jaat Sabhai Ekai Pehchaanbo. As for the Sikh appearance, its nothing to do with pride. Its our uniform, its our identity, its something we have died for and will die for. Why we have a distinct appearance? Well, lets see...you find me someone else who ever walked this planet and comes anywhere close to the dust below Dasmesh Pita jee's feet. You won't, therefore, since we belong to the One who doesn't have an equal, we are to carry His blessings as a sign that we belong to Him. Its not about ego, pride or arrogance, its our allegiance to Him. Even a pet dog has a collar which means it belongs to someone. Every soldier has a uniform. We are His soldiers and we are faithful to Him like a dog is to its master. Thus we carry His blessed appearance which He has gifted us. Sikhs don't turn their back on Guru Sahib's paavan pavittar saroop, because our Guru Sahib is not an idol, or a book, or someone who died in the past. Guru Sahib is jaagdi jot, eternal illuminance free from birth and death. Anyone who compares someone's turning back to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj with Guru Sahib's pointing feet towards Mecca should wake up to the fact that he/she is NOT Guru Nanak Patshah Jee Maharaj. Guru Sahib was teaching a lesson, what lesson is this person trying to teach? If someone is so adamant to compare themselves to Guru Sahib, they should first come forward and sacrifice their entire clan for the Panth. All the Guru Sahibaan were ONE jot, so thinking that one Guru Sahib's saroop was different from another is like saying the sun that shines over New York is different from the one that shines over New Jersey. At the end of the day, its your life, your kesh, and your relation with Gurujee. You judge what is more important for you and what your priorities in life are. If its Guru Sahib, you won't have any questions. If its anything/anyone else, good luck!

  12. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa !! Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh !! Waheguru Ji , Jaap Sahib – Sava Lakh (125,000) by June 2014 1984-30 YEARS-2014 June 1984 saw the tyrannical armies of India launch a full scale military attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar and the Sikh Panth. This was one of the first of a series of brutal and calculated attacks on the Sikh community designed to ridicule and break the backbone of our faith. In the following 29 years we have seen hundreds and thousands of people lose their lives in what is nothing short of genocide. The year 2014 will mark 30 years since this cold-blooded assault and attack on the heart of our panth. We will NEVER FORGET 1984, in fact we will remember what happened each and every day. We will forever praise the Great Warriors and Defenders of our Faith who fought till the last breath for the Chardi Kala of the Sikh Panth. WHATS THE PLAN? The Plan is to unite as a Panth in the Charan of Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaaj under One Nishan Sahib and do ardas for the Chardi Kala of the Khalsa and begin the Savah Lakh Jaap Sahib Gurbani Jaap. Through the Bani of the True Guru we can unite and remember the great Martyrs/Shaheeds of the Kaum This is our chance to unite across the globe, pray together and demonstrate our unity through the love of Gurbani and our Mahaan Shaheed Warriors. The aim is to have done 125,000 Jaap Sahib de Paath by June 2014. We cannot do this alone, we need our Panthic Brothers and Sisters, Mothers and Fathers from around the world, to join in with us and complete this task. As individuals we can only achieve so much, but with the support of Gurbani and the Sangat, we can attain everything. So let’s show our conviction and faith in Vaheguru ji and complete Savah Lakh (125,000) Sri Jaap Sahib de Paath by 06 June 2014 This paath will allow each one of us to make a daily contribution to the betterment of the Panth. We are at a stage where simply attending one day events is not enough, we need to be working daily towards living as true Khalsa’s. If we truly care, then taking out just a few minutes each day is a small contribution to make. WHO CAN AND SHOULD GET INVOLVED? The answer to this question is simple: Anyone who loves the blessed Shaheed Singhs and Singhnia of the Khalsa Panth…and actually wants to make a difference by reading and doing parchar of the Bani of Pita Ji Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj. So in essence, this should include each and every one of us. It doesn’t matter, whether you have taken Amrit or not, whether you keep your kesh or not, whether you belong to certain groups or not. This is our chance to gather as a community of human beings and do something together for the betterment of our Panth and remember the Brave Warriors who lived and died for the Truth. SO WHAT SHOULD I DO? What we ask is that each of us reads/listens to as many Jaap Sahib’s as possible with a collective aim to reach the target of 125,000. So read/listen to the Sacred Bani of Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaaj and record how many you have done. Then on a daily, weekly or fortnightly basis update the website so that we can keep a record of how we are doing. If you cannot read Gurbani then please try and listen to the bani being read. You can download the audio, watch videos with the audio playing and obtain English translations for you to read. We just want as many people contributing as much as they can for our Beloved Khalsa Panth. If this means that you can manage one Jaap Sahib a day, then we thank you, as that is one more Bani being read for the Chardi Kala of our Beloved Panth. Please, take out this time and do as much as you can. *Please note the Jaap Sahib that you do as a part of your Nitnem does not count towards the Savah Lakh (125,000) Jaap Sahib Gurbani jaap. RECORDING THE PAATH The primary method of recording the number of paath done will be via this website www.jaapsahib.com, we ask that you visit the site regularly to submit the number of paaths you (and your family/friends) have done. The information we receive will be treated with the upmost respect and confidentiality. This is not started by any particular jathabandi or political group; just the youth of the Panth…..for the love of the Panth and the Mahaan Shaheeds of our great Kaum whom spilt every last drop of blood in their bodies for the Chardi Kala of the Khalsa Panth. Please help promote this and take part in the seva as it is a formidable task to take on. http://www.jaapsahib.com/

  14. Vaheguru is forever forgiving. To prevent pitfalls in the future you have to make a lifestyle change and try to start going to Gurdwara and finding sangat. A good way to do this is to attend kirtan programs, Sikh camps and general events related to Sikhi or volunteer events. Please listen to this beautiful kirtan: Here's a channel about Sikhi: http://www.youtube.com/user/basicsofsikhi Start reciting path and nitnem as much as you can and try not to think about the negative habits we have and focus on the positive. Mistakes happen and so long as we get up from those mistakes and don't guilt trip ourselves we can improve. The aim is to Enlighten our minds and tune into Vaheguru and to do this we have to understand why the negatives are bad, not just label them as pure sin. Understand that focusing on living a GurSikh life will grant us mukti from this life and we will get pure anand and bliss. Guru Sahib has given everything to us. With this said, I am still on the path and trying my hardest everyday. This is lifetime commitment and you won't become perfect, the only thing you can do everyday is become a Khalsa and earnestly fight against the panj chore (Kaam Krodh Lobh Moh Ahankaar). Good luck, there is a saying," If you take one step to Guru Sahib, Guru Sahib takes 1000 steps to you." Ultimately after that it's on us to grab hold of Guru Sahib.

The contradicts that was there in mind regarding then belief of Guru Nanak Dev ji n Guru Gobind Singh ji is erased....... Means like.....we r actually born warriors then....n that is the main reason y sikh blood is so warm when it comes to our rights..... Means yaar eh te gajab di gal hai..means then I should believe in the stories of incarnation of our Gurus..... like I am so much interested in knowing about Dad that I do very less research on Other patshahi.... Please let me know more about Guru Nanak Dev ji......in-depth facts....

  17. Some clarifications: 1. The Panth of Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh is the same. 2. Guru Gobind Singh had Nanak Jot too, so you can't pick and choose because all following 9 Gurus elaborated on the main teachings of Guru Nanak. 3. Guru Nanak Dev kept Kes which is evident from the Janamsakhis. Guru Nanak Sahib were also Shasterdhari, so you see that the teachings of Dasam Pita are no different to those of Guru Nanak. In fact it is said that Guru Hargobind Sahib learnt Shaster Vidya from Baba Buddha Ji, who himself learnt it from Guru Nanak Sahib.

  18. It is a complete contradiction to claim to have a reverence for marriage and then attempt to change it's very definition. Gurbani does not prescribe a list of dos and don'ts for every possible action. It does, however, talk about the five vices and the dirt that has accumulated on our minds. Honest reflection is needed on Gurbani rather than arrogantly asserting our own way. It is very intolerant to try to change the maryada of the gurdwara rather than accepting our own mistakes and trying to correct them. As has been mentioned, all the Gurus, Bhagats, Gursikhs in history believed in the marriage of a man and a woman.....there is not one example to the contrary. This debate has only come up now because the west is now on the verge of accepting it. Those who are for gay marriages are actually following this modern-day liberal culture....hardly a view free from cultural bias. It is a culture that encourages selfishness and is totally anti-family, seeking to undermine marriage at every opportunity. All it talks about is 'my rights'.....but you never hear about 'my responsibilities'. If we want the Panth to flourish, we need to bring strong family values back. Advocating gay marriage in Gurdwaras is irresponsible, absolutely wrong and should be opposed by every right minded Sikh.

  21. Explain this, when are all the khalsas going to learn how to fight? As of today, 99% have never even been in a fist fight before. How are we gonna rule the world and fight with kirpan in one hand and gutka sahib in other? What training do we have? Let's get serious about this. Put all this fantasy, Lord of the rings thing aside for a moment and actually think about this. Most of us are out of shape, zero practical training individuals. How will we fight against all these people? I have stopped believing in this stuff when dates just kept on changing and stories kept getting more and more unbelievable. We have Sikhs telling gullible people all this stuff, how can we trust them when time and time again they have been wrong? And then there is always a reason given to justify why it didn't happen. I have been seeing this for many years now. I'm not as young as most of you. I NOW ONLY BELEIVE IN GURU SAHIB. Humans have been wrong way too many times. And if someone doesn't believe the illogical stuff they are spreading, they start being labeled as having no sharda. Really? So sharda means to just believe everything that you are told, regardless of if it's true or not? I have seen and heard too much to just beleive these things.

The man worked three jobs and was away from home most of the time, for example he had one main job and two part time jobs (he'd work his main job in the day, then sleep a few hours and leave for the next) .. they were poor so he had to constantly work. The daughter spent a lot of time with her masee's (moms sisters) who did not like the step dad. So that's the reason the daughter was like this, her aunt's brainwashed her.

  24. Wow... Damn bro, you should be our agony aunty ji. You have such good replies, I mean you really are a god-send. :D You were missed when you were getting married. When someone begins walking this path, they become a light for the rest of this dark, gloomy world. YOU are the one that is entrusted with the Guru's work. Your kesh and pagh is there to how people you are ready to help, to show that you won't hide in the crowd. Also, isn't it better to raise people to the status of a king, rather than the status of a beggar? Have you ever had a toy or made something that you really liked. It was your faivourite thing in the world. But your mum tries throwing it away. What do you do? You defend it so that it isn't thrown away and you keep it. It's the same as Sikhi. Sikhi is a rose, but people want to destroy it's beauty. How does this rose defend itself? With thorns. These thorns are our swords. We defend what is prescious to us, just like the rose tries to defend itself. But it's up to you as everyone else has said.

It's easy to talk about duality when passing judgement on other people's lives and situations, and you are right that we should aspire to see happiness and pain as one. But when a person is mired in suffering to such an extent that to live each moment of life without any hope of knowing when there'll be a respite to this suffering is an absolutely harrowing existence. But I'm not a Gurmukh therefore I'm not at the level where I can shrug off the cruely of life just yet.
