  2. Anandpur Sahib, Punjab (March 17, 2014): In a move that would surprise many, Giani Gurbachan Singh, the jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib appealed to Sikh couples to have four children. Giani Gurbachan Singh was speaking to media persons at Anandpur Sahib on March 17, 2013. The Akal Takht Jathedar said that the previous governments had given a slogan ‘hum do hamare do’ to the people of the country which was followed by Sikhs. He said that as a result of the above call and policy of the government, the number of Sikhs has gone down heavily and it making an adverse impact on the progress of Sikh community, the state and the country. The Jathedar told media persons that the number of Sikhs was very high at the time of Guru Nanak Sahib which has been going down regularly. He said that it was time to shun the slogan ‘hum do hamare do’ and adopt the slogan ‘hum do hamare chaar’. The Jathedar said that the above approach was in the benefit of the Sikh community. He said that it would take the ‘Qaum’ ahead in Religion, Politics and would also be good for the future of the Sikh families, the community, the state and the country. http://www.sikhsiyasat.net/2014/03/17/giani-gurbachan-singh-urges-sikhs-to-have-four-children/

  3. VAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, VAHEGURU JI KI FATEH Oh I don't know... A) 1 AM waking/feeding/diapering child #2. B) 3-4 AM milk demands of child #1. C) Managing kids for at least 3-4 hours of the day while meals are prepared. D) Managing kids while parents actually get sleep, not night naps for a few hours. It has been years since either of us managed 8 hours of sleep at night or anything close. E) As needed assistance with illness - that affects the entire family. F) Babysitting while parents actually get 2-3 hours per week to do luxury things like grocery shopping, car repairs and ironing clothes. We are not husband and wife to each other, we are mother and father to our kids. G) Doing above and maintaining an Amritvela, doing Simran, Paath, seva, attending Gurudwara divans - you know, BEING a Gursikh. H) Many MANY more things... Yes, I am sure I am a weak person who is not the Superdad and my wife is not Supermom, but we are two average parents trying to raise our kids. Funny how other Gursikhs in the area are facing the same challenges we are as parents, so we know we aren't the only ones. A few who have one have already commented that when they see us, they are scared away from having two - quite the handful they are. I have respect for the Akaal Takht Sahib and the Jathedar of the Akaal Takht Sahib - but making these proclamations have implications to those who take them seriously. The fact that Jathedar Sahib is sending out advisories that each family produce 4 kids is not realistic. Not everyone lives in a pind from the 1940s - people live in cities and there is not a support structure to maintain 4 kids for all people. Yeah, my grandmother had 11 kids - I also know she had a heck of a lot more family around her to assist with raising them. Not everyone lives with or has elders that help with kids. Money is a thing - anyone actually seen what it takes to fund a child through higher education? Physical capacity is a thing - not every person is Supermom-Superdad and has the capability of having 4 or more kids. The Sandesh puts me in a position to either not comply with it or to comply and basically ruin my life. This is not a situation that any person should be placed in. Does anyone realize the sheer energy and willpower to raise a child by parents? If any of you don't have children, sorry, you don't have a realistic understanding of what it takes. Ask those who do - half of the parents who actually make an effort to raise their kids right are out of their minds to make sure that their kids turn out right. It is absolutely correct to assert that the focus should be on the current youth that is suffering without any guidance. To make this a mandate for every Gursikh in the Panth is not in the realm of rational thought. I hope that this Sandesh gets publicized so the details can be reviewed to see if this is in the form of a plea or a mandate - if it is a mandate, it will make a mockery of the Jathedar position of the Akaal Takht Sahib because hardly any Sikh will give it any serious thought or consideration. Sorry...edited because the font and background was kinda annoying.

  4. Nothing can finish off Sikh Panth. Sikhs have survived several genocides. And having more kids is not a sign of desperation. It is crucial for a community's growth that they have a positive birth rate and not a negative one. A positive birth rate is 3 kids per family. During the olden times, when Sikhs gave great care to family they were also observant their religion. Now we have begun to copy the lifestyle and manners of westerners and only have 1 or 2 kids and coincidentally have also become less observant of our faith. Psychologically our men have become impotent and women are becoming barren. Even though they can have kids, but they don't want to because they see kids as a burden to their western lifestyle, where as before our people saw kids as a blessing from God. By copying the westerners no wonder our family structure is crumbling like theirs. Abortions are on the rise, people only have 1 or 2 kids max, people no longer taking care of their parents at old age and even divorce is on the rise. Hor Karlo Goriyaan di nakal

  5. That shows brilliant aspect of a sound sikh character. That is enough to prove them to be an aggrieved party who acted in self defence.

  6. good advise by the Akal Takht. He should have also talked about female infanticide since so many children are being murdered in the womb by their own mothers and fathers. The impotent and barren way of thinking of today's Sikhs is really sad. They see their own children as a burden, especially the girl child. And for a nationless people like the Sikh community which is a small minority as it is, they need to have a positive birth rate of at least 3 children in order to have a healthy demographic growth. Anything less than that will not grow the community and we might very well end up like the dwindling Parsi community.

  7. I agree, but there should be more emphasis on Sikhs not to kill female foetus's as well. Plus you have to actually raise them as Sikhs, no point in having four kids if you dont teach them anything about Gurmat and the Panth.

  8. Benti in the charan of Admin. Could this post be pinned. Many thanks. Vairag Shatak Raja Bharthari lived in Ujjain Nagar around two and a half thousand years ago. He was born in a high kul {lineage} who was a vidhwan pandit {scholar}. He was fair and just towards all his subjects and as such was much loved by all the parja {citizens}. His father’s name has been recorded in Rajavali as Raja Gandarbh Sann but mother’s name has been omitted and it is written that he was in fact born to a dasi {servant girl}. The raja had been married three or four times already but when he heard the kirti {praises} of a mahan sundar rajkumari {very beautiful princess}, he married her too. The name of this rani was Pingla. Her magical beauty and gunn {attributes} captivated the raja in such a way that he became her gulam {slave}. Just as the commands of Noor Jahan had a hold over Badshah Shah Jahan , this was the same scenario with raja Bharthari. Pingla feared none since the king Bharthari was under her “spell”. She wandered around sutantar {independently}, without fear, and as such fell in love with the astbal droga {stable master}. The rani had a devarr {husband’s younger brother}, who considered his elder brother raja Bharthari as a father figure and the rani as a mother. He obeyed their every order with utmost loyalty. The maharajah had given him the post of Pardan Mantri {Prime Minister}, the duties of which he carried out with great splendour. His name was Veer Vikramaditya, he is the same Mahapursh {great soul} who later came to be known as the famous Maharajah Bikramjit. The samat calendar is still used in his memory even today. Vikramditya was the first to have suspicions regarding the vibchar {adultery} of rani Pingla. After much deliberation he finally informed his brother raja of the misdeeds of rani Pingla. The raja was so besotted with Pingla that he took offence and as such reprimanded his own brother for saying such a thing. The raja went as far as to say that it is because you are my younger brother that I shall remain quiet otherwise I would have had you hanged. The raja considered his rani to be the supreme satti savitri {a lady who was the epitome of high moral character}. When Pingla found out about this confrontation she began to show even more love towards the raja. After some days she made a request to the raja, “your younger brother Vikramjit is like a son to me and I have always tried to be a mother to him but he looks at me in a lustful manner. Any other female would have succumbed to his advances by now! It is me who has evaded this terrible situation. He has made every attempt to defile me, and not only me, he has in fact destroyed the satt dharam {purity} of many women in this kingdom. It was only a few days ago that he attempted to lure the noh {daughter-in-law} of the Brahmin with the assistance of dootia {maids etc.} but she like me too is a pattibratta {faithful woman} and as such resisted his intentions. I implore you to stay alert and be very wary about such an adharmi {unscrupulous} man. I do not want you to be in any danger from him.” Upon hearing this the Maharajah took every word to be the utmost truth. Then rani Pingla called the Brahmin and said “are you aware that the Maharajah is is in my total control and if you desire your well being then follow my instructions to the full. Go to the Maharajah and make a pukar {plea}, if you don’t then I shall have you tortured!” The Brahmin knew that the raja was totally smitten by Pingla and as such would only take her word against any other. “I will obey your every command” replied the Brahmin to rani Pingla. Pingla told the Brahmin ”go to the raja’s court and make a faryad {plea}! and when he asks you what is the matter, you reply that kumar{prince} Bikramjit wants to engage in immorality with my noh {daughter-in-law} and if you are prepared to allow this than I shall leave your nagar {kingdom} and go elsewhere. I cannot stand by and allow my izatt {respect} and istri dharam {chaste} to be destroyed in this way.” “Also remember that you must not succumb to the raja in any way!” Upon hearing this the Brahmin went to see the Maharajah the very next day and cried his dilemma {which the rani taught him} with immense reality. The Maharajah filled with krodh {anger} upon hearing his words. Without padtal {investigation} the maharajah immediately ordered the des nikala {expulsion} of his younger brother from his kingdom. Bikramjit accepted his maharajah brother’s edict with love, patience, and without complain. He immediately went home and gathered his family and promptly left the kingdom. At the same time another situation occurred. One day a Brahmin arrived in the raj darbar {king’s court} and began to tell the raja that “twenty five years earlier I made a dridh sankulp {strict devotion} to do tapp {endurance} in order to appease the Devta {deity}, the devta gave me an Amar Phall {fruit that gives eternal life}. I have come here with that phall, my wife won’t eat it herself nor will she let me eat it. She says that we are poor and persistent poverty will be harder to manage. We only desire death now so that we may escape our hardships. If we eat the amar phall then we shan’t die and as a result will have to endure more hardship. That is why it is my wish that you take the amar phall so that you can continue to rule your kingdom in the most benevolent way and in return you can give us wealth which will eradicate our suffering.” Upon hearing this from the Pandit Rajah Bharthari he took the amar phall in exchange for an abundance of wealth, which pleased the Brahmin immensely. The rajah didn’t eat this fruit himself but gave it to his beloved rani Pingla. The rani thought that it would be deceitful of her to eat the fruit, so when the rajah left she summoned her lover and promptly gave him the fruit. The lover did not eat the fruit either but gave it instead to his favourite prostitute. The prostitute accepted the fruit but began to contemplate her lifestyle “I have sinned all my life, destroyed many marriages etc. If I eat this fruit and become amar {eternal} then this is all I will endure {lustful activities}. It is better that I give this fruit to the Maharajah instead, in whose raj he has given me so many pleasures.” After contemplating this with all sincerity she presented the fruit to the Maharajah. The maharajah was first stunned upon seeing the fruit but then asked the vesvah {lady of the night} where she had obtained this fruit from? Upon being interrogated by Bharthari the veshvah told the whole story truthfully “Your astbal droga {stable master} is my mitr {lover}, he gave it to me.” The raja immediately summoned the droga {stable master} and asked how he became in possession of the fruit? The drogra fell at the rajah’s feet and narrated the whole scenario of how he engaged in immorality with his rani Pingla. As soon as the Maharajah heard the whole story, he immediately filled with nafarat {hatred} of the rani and the world in general. He became fully vairag {total renunciation}. He immediately summoned the maha mantri {prime minister} and said; “look after this raj {kingdom} I am leaving. Bikramjit suffered pains owing to my decision to expel him. Call him back and place him on the throne.” As soon as he had given these instructions he immediately removed the robes that adorned his body. He covered his body with a solitary sheet as he left to join Gorakh. Maharajh Bharthari first wrote “Shingar Shatak” and during his reign wrote “Neeti Shatak” and after attaining vairag {renunciation} he wrote “Vairag Shatak” in which he describes the state of his mind. “Vairag Shatak” Granth was written in Brijj language by the great scholar Kavi Pandit Har Dyal Ji of Choonia Nagar. The Punjabi translation has been undertaken by Pandit Naryan Singh Gyani.

  9. Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji Ki Fateh Hi, if this is in the wrong place then I apologise. But can anyone please help me. I would like to know where to purchase Pro-Sikh clothing, be it of Shaheed,Bhindranwale ji, for example watching the Sikh Channel a few weeks ago, Sarabjit Singh from RajoanaTV was wearing a shirt with images of Shaheed Subegh Singh Ji and Bhindranwale Ji. On the Sikh ethics show, I believe, correct me if wrong, that the Science graduate was wearing a Republic of Khalistan top. I can't find any similar shirts on Internet. Does anyone know where to get them ? Thanks.

  10. Hi brother, it breaks my heart to see you question so much of your relationship with your faith, I am a convert to Sikhi however I can imagine many young Sikhs in the faith have such questions and you are brave to bring them out in the open. I hope it will help with many others that might be experiencing similar doubts. I believe many of the questions can be answered simply by researching more and with more simran. I will however answer with the limited knowladge I have in my own path to sikhi. First of all guru Nanak dev ji did all he could to avoid violence and he was automatically respected wherever he went. Guru gobind Singh ji was war oriented and proclaimed Sikhs as the warrior race. The Gurus faced different challenges at different times, All however believed in exhausting all other means before raising the sword. They all made great sacrifices too. Demonstrating all the forms of service to humanity. Guru Gobind Singh Ji did create or give form to the khalsa so that in future the opressed would have a force for truth and rightiousness to turn to. Raising the sword was always to be done as a last resort. If all other means had failed to achieve peace and justice. Guru gobind Singh ji also said that we must keep a turban and Kesh. Understanding the Kesh is important, for so many reasons. It is to accept the form we are created by Waheguru. To protect this the dastar. On the other hand guru Nanak dev ji said in one of his sakhis where the pandit was tying a bracelet on him, that he won't wear it because no exterior feature will help someone reach god. In addition guru The red thread in question was given to the higher castes only. Not all could wear it. Why distinguish high and low. If it was put into fire it burns. The Kara is very egalitarian...not made of fine materials liek silk or gold. Its strong as iron and accessible to all regardless of caste or status. Its a sign of our chain to our Lord. To always do the work rightiously and truthfully. Nanak dev ji said that it doesn't matter what religion you are as long as you're one with god and are humble. Sikhi still doesnt go looking for forced convertions. It accepts other faiths and the Gurus always assisted and defenced people of other faiths. Look at example of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Guru Gobind Singh ji said we should wear a turban because kings at the time wore it and we should be proclaimed as kings. Again all are kings, equal. Breaking down the barriers by empowerment. In my opinion that's not humble at all. Guru Nanak dev ji said that we are all equal no matter what and you shouldn't care if you have something others don't. Guru gobind Singh ji gave us a turban so we stick out and be recognized as Sikhs. The turban should be a sign that people can look for protection. Someone who stands for truth and justice. It is perhaps we as sikhs who fail to live up to this not the fault of our Gurus. Also Sikhs are not allowed to have their backs and feet towards Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji. But guru Nanak dev ji in one of his sakhis guru nakak dev ji went to a mosque and pointed his feet towards Mecca which Muslims could not do but he said that god is everywhere. Showing respect to your living Guru why would you turn your back to them? The point Guru nanak Dev Ji was making was that God is everywhere. He didnt live in the Kaaba or Ganga. I believe in guru Nanak dev ji but not the others after him. Guru Angad Ji was chosen by Guru Nanak Dev ji over his sons as his successor. It was his words. If you believe in his words believe in his actions also. I believe I should cut my kesh now because I don't see a reason to keep it. How do I approach my parents about this? They aren't really religious and my dad trims but he loves India and Indian culture. He's very authoritarian but how do I approach my patents about this? Keep your Kesh out of pyar if you do not understand it quite yet. The problem arises when its a cultural aspect not religious. If the parents dont understand such things how are children meant to. Arm yourself with knowladge brother. Its not enough mearly to dip into something you need to crave for understanding. To want to be with Akaal purak more than anything. Otherwise all these things discussed mean nothing. You are so blessed in so many ways! Again forgive me for any inaccuracies or any offence caused.

  11. When a man decides to walk on the path of Sikhi, He accepts everything what Gurus Give him..Whether you talk about BANA or BANI... Both things have deep sense in the journey of achieving waheguru through Sikhi. Those ten gurus were one JOT... we accept them when we are in their school ""SIkhism"""... We have given some blessings and orders..We have to follow them because we have to attain Waheguru.. Saying like that I am Guru nanak's sikh and not Guru Gobind singh's makes you nothing more than ""Hypocrite sikh"". And you are trolling yourself....you can lie us but you can't lie to your heart. but believe me if you are honest ,if you feel you are pure from your heart,, one day sikhi it will bloom itself from your body ...simply that's sikhi purifies you according to time. I was mona when i was studying Guru nanak,, but As I go through it more and more I felt more spiritual level of me... I kept kesh later,,it happens with the will of waheguru.. take a name of waheguru with pure and clean heart...this thing will make you GURU KA SIKH,,, nobody becomes sikh with his choice....This all about waheguru who forms our body in natural sense...and we accept the way he made us. Simple..

  12. Well, The guy starting this thread has not lost faith in Sikhi but confused , else he wouldn't have made the post , the rest replying are making him more confused . As far i understand Sikhi starts frm accepting God the almighty and his wish , live the way he wanted us to (accepting the form he very graciously provided alongwith kesh ) , love his creations(trying to help others in living their life till it does not hinder any other living being doing the same - Bhai kahoo ko det nah nah bhai manat aan) , spend life in his rememberence the ultimate goal being to attain unison with the SUPREME SOUL .

  13. Nihang Singh's go anti clockwize because they say that the human heart is on the left and that they want to keep the heart close to Guru Jee when they do parkarma. It really doesn't matter that much. Bhai Gurdas talks about benefits of parkarma, End of the day if you not following the teachings what use is parkaram. More important to rise at the early hours of the day and do simran and bani jaap for 20 hours with 4 hours sleep. Everything else is vanity

  14. I don't agree with this Singh sahib statement because this does not solve problem. It should be parchar that needs to be done on mass scale - not for non-Sikhs but for Sikhs to stay firm in sikhi. Population is always on rise but declining attendence is not because Sikhs are not having enough children but a BIG SIGN that future young sikh couples are not following sikhi because of lack of approach by parchar management.

  15. President Vladimir Putin thanked India for taking a restrained and objective stand on Russias muscle flexing in Ukraine. Addressing a joint meeting of the Russian Parliament on Tuesday on the occasion of Crimeas reunification with Russia Mr. Putin singled out China and India as the countries that showed understanding for Russias role in the Ukraine crisis. We are grateful to all those who understood our actions in Crimea, Mr. Putin said. We are grateful to the people of China, whose leadership sees the situation in Crimea in all its historical and political integrity. We highly appreciate Indias restraint and objectivity. India did not join the Western powers condemnation of Russias intervention in Crimea and kept a low profile on the issue. The Ministry of External Affairs on March 6 issued neutral comment expressing concern for the fate of more than 5000 Indian nationals in Ukraine and called for sincere and sustained diplomatic efforts to ensure that issues between Ukraine and its neighbouring countries are resolved through constructive dialogue. National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon gave a clearer indication of where Indias sympathies lied when he said in reply to a question, There are legitimate Russian and other interests involved and we hope they are discussed and resolved. India has not reacted to the Ukrainian Ambassadors request to recognise the new interim government in Kiev and to voice support against the Russian invasion. China was the only U.N. Security Council member to abstain on a U.S.-tabled draft resolution criticising Russia for Crimea. Thirteen Security Council members supported the resolution, which was vetoed by Russia. At the height of the crisis Mr. Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed on telephone from close positions the Ukraine standoff, according to the Kremlin. http://www.thehindu.com/news/international/world/putin-thanks-india-for-its-stand-on-ukraine/article5800989.ece

  22. Bibi Waheguru Kaur and Bibi Satnam Kaur Introduction There are many fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters which stood up and answered the call of Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. Usually these fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters come from different families, rarely is it seen that every member of a family offer themselves to Guru Sahib. One such family was that of Bhai Mohar Singh Ji. This is the story of how a family of Pandits became soldiers of Guru Sahib and then great martyrs of the faith. Childhood Bhai Mohar Singh was born to Mata Suhag Vanti and Pandit Bihari Lal Ji in the village Jumal Pur, District Amritsar, Punjab India. Bhai Sahib from a very young age always had an interest in religion and Akaal Purakh. He was very studious from early on and also very active in sports. Both Bhai Sahib’s parents were very religious and gave Bhai Sahib an excellent upbringing teaching him the values of being a good person. Meeting Sant Baba Kartar Singh Ji and taking Amrit One day Bhai Sahib found out that Sant Baba Kartar Singh Ji Bhindranwale, the 13th Jathedhar of Guru Sahib’s Taksal would be coming to his village for a program. Bhai Sahib decided to go to this program. After listening to the Katha of Sant Ji, Bhai Sahib was extremely moved. He spoke to a few Singhs from the Jatha after this and then decided to become a Singh of Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj. Both Bhai Sahib and his wife, Bibi Pritam Kaur Ji were blessed with the gift of Amrit. Bhai Sahib and his wife used to do a lot of bani and naam abiyhaas. Eventually they were blessed with two children; Bibi Satnam Kaur and Bibi Waheguru Kaur. In the 80s Bhai Sahib used to live with Sant Gyani Baba Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, the 14th jathedhar of Guru Sahib’s Taksal. Bhai Sahib and his family were very close to Sant Ji. Bhai Sahib in fact was one of Sant Ji’s personal bodyguards. Meeting with Sant Ji During the 1984 Attack Bhai Sahib and his family were still with Sant Ji. They had done an ardas to Maharaj to bless them with Shaheedi. Sant Ji met Bhai Sahib and told him that he has two young children and a wife and as a result he should leave. But Bhai Sahib told Sant Ji that he and his family, including his two little daughters who were only 8 and 6 respectively had done an ardas already to give their heads to Guru Sahib. They would not turn their backs on Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and on Sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib. Bhai Mohar Singh and his family’s Morcha. Bhai Sahib was told by General Shahbeg Singh Ji to take up his morcha at the place where Dhan Dhan Amar Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, the first Jathedhar of Guru Ji’s Taksal, had placed his head at the feet of Guru Sahib after fighting and defeating the invading forces of Jahan Khan who had desecrated Sri Darbar Sahib. 1984 Attack On June 4th the Indian Army invaded Sri Darbar Sahib. They attacked the house of Guru Ram Das Ji Maharaj with tens of thousands of commandos. At amritwela bullets began to fly in every direction. Singhs began their morchas with an ardas to maharaj, to bless them with strength and love and to let them stay true to his beautiful path of Guru Sahib. The army tried to send 400trained Commandos from the Ghanta Ghar gate, Baba Deep Singh gate and the Langar side. From all three gates Singhs gave such a reply that not one of these commandos survived. The Singhs of Guru Sahib were fighting their morchas with such intensity that the army thought it was they who were out numbered; they could not imagine that it was only 200 Singhs who were wreaking such havoc among their ranks. Bibi Pritam Kaur, Bibi Waheguru Kaur, and Bibi Satnam Kaur were doing seva for Singhs during this time. They would refill magazines for the Singhs as well as bring them whatever food or water they could find. In addition to this Bibi Pritam Kaur was looking after those Singhs who had been shot. Guru Sahib was doing so much kirpa that even though some Singhs had been shot numerous times they were still fighting and were encouraging other Singhs to do the same. Tanks brought into Darbar Sahib On the 6th of June after suffering thousands of causalities the army saw that the Khalsa of Guru Sahib would not let them enter. The Generals in charge of the army then decided to send Tanks and other armored vehicles into Darbar Sahib. Shaheedi Bhai Mohar Singh Ji and his family who had been fighting their morcha saw what was happening. They then decided that now was the time to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the Sikh Kaum. They did an ardas to Maharaj, and then all four family members strapped several grenades to themselves and prepared to go back home to the feet of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Sahib Ji. Shouting Jaikarey they ran towards the lead tank and as they jumped on it, they blew it to pieces. It was because of these four beautiful saint soldiers of Guru Sahib that the tanks behind this one could not get through and do even more damage. Bhai Sahib and his family gave their heads to Guru Sahib at the same place that their older brother Dhan Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji had done all those years ago. When Singhs saw this they couldn’t stop tears of happiness from flowing. Bhai Mohar Singh Ji’s family’s shaheedi filled the rest of the Singhs with so much josh and they continued to inflict heavy casualties on the invaders, right till the end. The Aftermath Bhai Sahib’s family was harassed a lot by the police and army following Operation Bluestar. Bhai Sahib’s brothers joined the Khalistan Commando Force and fought the invaders right till Guru Sahib took them back home. Bhai Sahib’s nephews Bhai Baksheesh Singh Kaljug and Bhai Parmjit Singh Pama also joined the movement and died fighting for this beautiful path of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj. Bhai Baksheesh Singh was such a furious lion of Guru Sahib that he came to be known as Kaljug because he brought death to the enemy. Bhai Baksheesh Singh Ji rose to the rank of Lt General before his shaheedi. Conclusion The story of Bhai Mohar Singh Ji, Bibi Pritam Kaur Ji and their two little children is an amazing story of untold sacrifice and dedication which continues to this day with Bhai Mohar Singh Ji’s father and mother still holding Sri Akhand Paths for the Shaheeds of Guru Sahib’s Panth. "My father is Guru Gobind Singh, my grandfather is Guru Teg Bahadur, and my great-grandfather is Guru Hargobind. Death means nothing to me. Our death will fan the flames that will drive the tyrants from this land." With so much blood filling the foundations of Khalsa Raj, there is no doubt that it will become a reality. 23. Winds of change my friend. Every 50 to 60 years around the world a wind of change blows. The wind is blowing and India is stupid if it thinks it can ignore it, for it is an unstoppable wind. Lets talk about Scotland for one moment, and remember, India - although it likes to call itself a 'democracy' - arrests, imprisons and tortures under achaic sedition laws anyone that even dares mention a separate homeland. In Scotland some people - not all, just some - articulated a desire to break up the UK and become an independant country. Now compare the UK response to the India response. See how a country needs to have democratic values before it can be termed a democracy. The UK government response was to engage the separatists in debate and also provide the separatists with free TV airtime during elections so that the debate can be held on an equal footing. After debate, the UK government have announced that a referendum will be held in Scotland this year asking all Scottish people this simple question : 'Do you wish to have your own independant country?'. The UK government wish them to say 'no' but have stated they will respect the wishes of the people. If the people vote 'yes' than the government is prepared to break up the UK and let the Scots go their own way. Now these, are the values of a democracy. Once Scotland goes, the Catalans around Barcelona will soon break away from Spain, the Basques in northern Spain and southern France will follow suit, Belgium will then cease to exist as the government in Paris is already in negotiation with the french speaking half of Belgium about incorporating it into France, and Quebec will follow too. That kind of wind is unstopable. A free Punjab is coming whether or not the Indians like it. It is for this reason we western Sikhs should concentrate on not only educating but also winning the hearts and minds of the Sikhs in Punjab. They have lost their way but its not their fault. They have not been allowed to know anything about the truth. Thats our job to teach them and show them. Enough of arguing with India. You can't reason with unreasonable people. Lets concentrate on getting our own people ready for the wind of change.

  24. The fact is that they brought it upon themselves. They could have not supported the communalist muslim league, and clearly rejected pakistan. they could have said something about the Rawalpindi pogrom, but they didnt. The majority of muslims in panjab supported the Pakistan movement. What happened in East Panjab after partition, was the chickens had come home to roost (to quote a muslim guy). For some years in Panjab, and over India, muslims were using violence as and when it suited them to further their political goals. Kill the kafirs, and allah loves you, but when the kafirs bite back, whinge about it for decades. In western panjab, the sikhs only being about 5 or 10 % of the population against some 80 or 90 % of the muslims, took severe casualties, but in East Panjab, where Sikhs were only something like 15-20% of the population, as against 30 to 49% of the muslim population, the Sikhs still gave them what for. In East Panjab, they still outnumbered the Sikhs in more or less every district by 2 to 1, or 3 to 1, yet they got they beat. Only where they could fight Sikhs 8 to 1 or 9 to 1, they managed to do something. So, don't whinge about them, they had everything in their favour, but the scars of Rawalpindi, had proved too strong for them. Why are you buying into the Pakistani propaganda that more muslims were killed. It's all lies, they dont even acknowledge that Rawalpindi saka happened, yet you lap up their propaganda. I'm not sure sure that the Sikh community has recovered from partition of panjab. Those Sikhs in the know about this are still bitter from my experience. But what we have to accept is that partition had happened, and how we can work towards restoring our heritage in West Panjab, and extending hands of mutual co-operation and acknowledgement across the border. That means that the Pakistani curriculum tells schoolchildren the truth about what they did to create Pakistan, and lose their victim mentality over partition violence.

  25. ਲੀਗਲ ਸਿੰਘ (ਇਲੀਗਲ ਖਾਨ), of the one million people that died in 1947, half were Muslims and about 1/4 were Hindus and 1/4 were Sikhs. From this it may seem like the Punjabi Muslims suffered the most. But in reality it is the Sikhs who suffered the most for the following reasons: -Although 1/4 of the one million victims were Sikhs but this number meant 5% of the Sikh population died where as 3.33% Punjabi Muslims died. So Sikhs suffered more in terms of population loss. -before partition Sikhs were 13% of the entire Punjabi population but 1/3 of the land was owned by the Sikhs. The best lands were in the canal colonies that were given off to Pakistan. Sikhs lost land which cannot be totaled by the land lost by the Muslims of east Punjab who in comparison were small land owners. When the populations were exchanged the Sikhs from west Punjab had to settle for smaller land holdings in east Punjab where as the east Punjab Muslims were given even more land than they had in east Punjab from the huge amounts of land vacated by the Sikhs of west Punjab. -West Punjab was the birth place of Sikhi. Most of the great Gurdwaras associated with Guru Nanak Dev Jee are located there. This loss is probably the biggest one felt by the Sikhs. It is almost like Muslims being forced to leave Hejaz in Soudi Arabia or Jews being forced to leave Israel. And as for which side women suffered the most, I would dispute your claim that the other side's women suffered more. I don't have the figures with me right now, but I remember reading not too long ago of the amount of women that were recovered from east and west Punjab. The Hindu/Sikh women were more.

  26. Really painful to read this. On Gurbachan Singh Talib's book he mentions this: In Thoha Khalsa, on March 12, 1947 after long and heroic resistance, 200 Sikhs were killed. The women were asked to embrace Islam, but 93 of them, old and young, decided to escape dishonour by drowning themselves in a well, which they did. The Muslim invaders, aghast at this tragedy, fled from the place. A little later, the military arrived and rescued the survivors. 31. Muslim and Sikh groups are challenging a ruling which bans amateur boxers from the ring if they have a beard. The Amateur Boxing Association of England (ABAE) recently ruled that all fighters had to be clean shaven to allow cuts to the face to be seen. It came after Mohammed Patel, a 25-year-old bearded Muslim boxer from Bolton, was stopped from competing last January. At the time, ABAE rules stated only Sikh fighters were exempt, so the Bolton Council of Mosques challenged the ABAE on Mr Patel's behalf. But the ABAE then ruled all competitors had to be clean shaven, a decision both Muslim and Sikh groups want reversed, particularly as professional fighters have been allowed facial hair for more than 20 years. Inayat Omarji, Children and Young People's manager at Bolton Council of Mosques, told BBC Asian Network he is fighting on behalf of Mr Patel, who has been left disheartened by the row. "Mohammed was actually very upset," said Mr Omarji. "He said 'I was that upset, I trained for it, I did all my diets and everything and when I heard I went straight into the takeaway and got myself a big doner kebab'. "That is a big thing because when a young lad actually starts boxing, he has to have... mental and physical fitness... he was really, really down. "It has raised the awareness of different people who have different religious commitments, cultural commitments. "And in this day and age, they have to accept and work with the different communities." 'Petty go' Dr Indarjit Singh, director of the Network of Sikh Organisations said: "I was astounded that they should make a ruling that is so insensitive, knowing that it will disadvantage at least one religious community. "It's such a petty go at the beard. It's a sport and it has some risks but the hair does not really in any way increase those risks. "It's a perverse retrograde step that should be challenged." But the ABAE's national child protection and equity manager, Barry Jones, said the rule was there to protect boxers. "The ruling has come from our international governing body - the International Amateur Boxing Association. It has nothing to do with race, only health and safety. "Our medical commission have deemed that facial hair can cause abrasions to opponents faces... and most importantly doctors say clean shaven athletes allow them to see cuts during the fight. "Cuts aren't allowed in amateur, Olympic-style, boxing. We are completely different to the professional circuit." Mr Jones conceded the previous ruling, that Sikh boxers were the exception to the rule, had been a mistake. "That was five or six years ago, by a different board at the Boxing Council of England and was an error of judgement in my opinion. They didn't consider the implications. "It's not been a matter of concern before and we have hundreds of Sikhs and Muslims in the sport - that includes of course Amir Khan and Prince Naseem Hamed. "It's the way it is, it's not unusual for a boxer to be told to shave right up until weigh-in time." But it is a different matter for professional boxers. Fighters can be asked to trim facial hair if a beard is considered too bushy by the referee, but the British Boxing Board of Control said a complete ban was overturned because of the diversity of religions involved in the sport. 'Underground' boxing At Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Mohammed Patel's fellow amateur boxers are training as usual. One boxer, Liam, from Bolton said: "If I wanted to do boxing that much I would shave my beard off and do the boxing. "It's nothing about my religion. You've got to respect the rules of the game." Sheryar, a young Muslim, also from Bolton, said: "We have beards so we can't fight, that's not a good reason for it. "You can't destroy someone's career because of his beard." The club's boxing manager Phil Marsh said he was worried that if beards were banned from amateur boxing competitions then young Sikh and Muslim men could get in to unofficial, unregulated boxing circuits. "There needs to be an outlet for Muslim young men that wear beards in terms of how they box competitively. "We've got so many young people that will want to box competitively and it's finding that nice route and not driving it underground to any of the unlicensed boxing that's going on at the minute."
